There were a few other people on the trail today, though no bikes. We even saw a tri-color Corgi-mix with beautiful blue eyes! The trail is very well marked, although I typically get lost around the washout, but that's me being stubborn. Sorry for the dead end footprints, y'all! Found my way quickly along the trail past the Day Use area this weekend - I didn't ask for directions, of course - and had a great workout. He's short and I'm old, so we make a great hiking team. Just sharing here - I picked up a set of bone conduction headphones and listened the book of Psalms while hiking through creation - it was a deeply spiritual day and I'm very grateful for the opportunity to share that moment here. Definitely check out the hiking trail, it's about 5 miles with only a couple mild - moderate climbs and makes for a nice Saturday adventure. Check out the little shops and stores in Folsom when you're done!

Bingo,movie rentals (?) coffee & sweets night, dominoes, board games,sewing area, potluck aren't available, never. I was woken up in the middle of the night by a man standing at the end of my bed, I was never so frightened in my life! Found out not long after that this man had done this before and the manager knew about it and let him stay. When I informed the manager about it he said well you are alive aren't you? Beware

Evidently the last owner of the house donated the house and some of the land to the state for a park which is great. It saves the land for use. I came to tour the house. You have to pay at the gate to drive on the premises, and pay for the tour. Then drive around and park near the house. Everything was quite lovely. I did not use any of the other facilities.

There is a lot of open ground between the rows of slips giving you a sense of open space. There is another campground section in the back where the boat ramp is with some space to park your vehicles with boat trailers. The facilities are well maintained. For example, the site directly across from me has a brand new picnic table which are more expensive than your average table since the entire frame is made from tubular metal to ward off termites. Each gender has three separate shower rooms available to them. Each room is lockable and comes with a toilet, a sink vanity, and a very large shower stall. The rooms are spacious so that parents can help their young children. There two sets of washers and dryers in that same centrally located building for the front campground. The rear campground has their own building with restrooms and showers. The dump station has a hand soap dispenser which is the first time I've seen that at a public campground. I camped in slip #26 which is located at the end of the row and has partial shade over half the slip all day long. The end of the row is next to the park boundary and on the other side is an old cemetery which makes for a quiet area buffer from any residences. After my first weekend, almost everyone else checked out and I had my row to myself. Located within the park is the historical Old Mill House Museum but tours were not available (mid June 2023) as they were currently doing repair work. There is a swamp trail boardwalk available for walking/hiking with periodic benches and a river view at one point. They have provided playground equipment and swings for the children. There are about 80 RV slips and all have water and power hook ups. There a half dozen or so with sewer hook ups. There is also a large tent camping area with no power hook ups. There are plenty of restaurants and grocery stores within just a few miles of the park in both Madisonville and Mandeville.

Electric, water and sewage hookup included in the very reasonable daily rates. Small charcoal grill provided at each campsite. The small roads throughout the park are paved and are great to ride around in a golf cart. There is a large playground and other activities for the kids and there are several small beaches to go swimming. For those who want to rough it and go camping with a tent there are restrooms and showers available. Washing machines and dryers are located behind the business office. If you plan on bringing a boat there are 2 boat launches and a docking area located in the rear of the campground. There is a no wake zone along the entire campground. Since it's a very popular getaway I recommend you book 2 weeks in advance especially if you plan on spending a weekend. No WiFi

We had a nice spot on the river.....but when the weekend rolled around, it turned into a trashy neighborhood block party. Drunk people, golf carts flying up and down the road, and unsupervised children everywhere. Loud music at alllllllllll hours of the night. An equally ridiculous amount of boat traffic on the river- and it was like a competition to see who could blast their not-family-friendly music the loudest. No peace, no quiet, no respect for others, and not a single park rule enforced. There's a gate with a code, but what's the point of it??? All of the crazy is INSIDE the park! The campsites are fairly close together, so parking is limited...throw in a million vehicles, trailers, and golf carts, and it's a nightmare to maneuver through the park. There is a posted speed limit, which is obviously more of a suggestion than a rule because no one follows it. It was a nightmare just trying to walk our dog because of the constant traffic. This may be exactly the kind of place you're looking for, but for my family, it was terrible. Highly unlikely that we will return.

Aiery Lake is a great place to fish, a great place to camp and a great place to take photos. It is…read morealso a great place for an embarrassing story from yours truly. This area of The Desoto National Forest is a good stopping point while hiking the Tuxachanie Trail. Depending where you begin your hike, this area is either 13 miles or 8 miles from the beginning of the trail. Personally I would rather do my long hike on the first day and the short hike the next day, but either way, Aiery Lake is a good stopping point. There are several areas to camp at Aiery Lake including some closer to the parking area. I think if you get away from the parking area you will have a more enjoyable experience, but if you want to be close to your vehicle, you can be. There aren't many facilities here, but there are actual bathrooms which is much nicer than digging a latrine in the middle of the woods (I know from firsthand experience). The Lake itself is beautiful. On a calm day the surface of the lake looks like glass and gives the perfect reflection of the sky and surrounding wilderness. If you're like me and love the view of objects reflected in the water, this is a must see. My kid thinks it would be pretty neat if I could somehow catch the mirror image of my Jeep reflected on a lake, but I have yet to find a suitable location. The lake here doesn't have vehicle access to the opposite side so I will have to keep searching. I am not much of a fisherman, but based on the number of people fishing, I suspect fishing is pretty good in the lake. If I would have had a pole I would have gladly sat around all day taking in that view, drinking beer and pretending to fish. Since I didn't have any of those items, I just watched others fish. So there are all of the reasons to go to Aiery Lake. Even if you are just passing through, it is a beautiful area and I encourage you to stop. As for this area being the location of an embarrassing story, I am somewhat reluctant to tell it, so please don't ridicule me too badly. Many years ago when I was a 13 or 14 year old Boy Scout, my troop hiked the Tuxachanie Trail. When we were almost to Aiery Lake we noticed two or three similarly aged girls and decided to try and impress them. In my underdeveloped juvenile brain I decided that the way to impress the girls was to use my "talent" of singing. I chose what was quite the popular song at the time and as we approached them I started singing. I must have underestimated the distance between us and them because by the time we passed I had come to part of the song which went a little something like this: "I did it like this, I did it like that, I did it with a wiffle ball bat sooooo I'm on the run, the cops got my gun........". As you can probably guess my lyrics were overwhelmingly unsuccessful in impressing anyone, much less the girls. I don't know if it was my singing, or if they saw some sort of poisonous reptile, but they ran as fast as their legs would carry them in the opposite direction. Later that evening in the camp site we decided a reconnaissance mission was in order. My friends and I walked over to their area and stood in the darkness trying to work up the courage to talk to them. I guess lurking behind a tree wasn't very impressive either as we got the cold shoulder once again. Looking back all I can do is laugh at how awkward and embarrassing the entire experience was. So there you have it. Aiery Lake is a great place unless you're a goofy awkward teenager.

We drove through and found a couple different park residents and stopped to ask if they knew who or where we could find someone.. one said" good luck ". Another said " it's a hit or miss"This is no way to run a business !! Finally encountered a very rude and snippy woman whose name is Judy says she's the manager. We wouldn't stay there if they gave us a spot !! Also spoke to a " long time " resident who states the manager is a drunk who poisons and kills the the neighborhood cats .. and is extremely volatile. Stated they tried to have warranty work done on their camper and the repair man won't even come in the park because she is a drunk and try's to extort money from them for allowing them to come in the park. And forget washing cars or your camper she wants money for that too. Wish the new owners knew this but she says she doesn't have any phone numbers to contact them ?? Yeah ok NOT We ended up at another park on Hwy 90 they are extremely friendly and actually says that they get a lot of people who says the same exact thing .. DO NOT GO TO THIS PARK
