Superb meal and it was just a basic soup and sandwich! Made my phone order for pick-up, during their lunch hour...they were pretty busy...gave them 15 minutes and had to wait about another 5-6 minutes for the order. All tables inside and outside were patron filled. Lunch was yummy and satisfying cup of garbanzo soup (they ran out of the lentil soup), a meaty porky and pickle filled Cuban sandwich, and a Cuban coffee w/sugar as a tasty dessert topper...perfect. I should've had a Cuban cigar handy it would've made it more perfect...haha. Very much looking forward to eating there again and trying their menu items. Read some great reviews and we needed a place for a quick lunch so we were very glad we stopped in. Franklin greeted us as soon as we arrived and it was apparent we just missed the lunch rush - which was a good thing for our schedule. Franklin was our server and his positive attitude and service with a smile set the tone for a great experience. I ordered the lechon with black beans and sweet plantains, and added a side of white rice. It was all executed very well. The sweet plantains had a little crust which I like and the lechon was flavorful and plentiful. I think my only regret was not ordering and cafe con leché. I think it would've been great for the ride home but I may have had trouble getting to sleep - lol. Excellent value, great food, and attentive and friendly service! A few months ago the picky eater suggested Habana's Boardwalk out of the blue. It had been a good while since we had eaten here, largely due to my fear that the picky eater wouldn't have anything to eat besides bread and flan. Needless to say I didn't waste any time heading here because these opportunities don't come often. Fingers crossed that there would be a simply seasoned chicken or pork dish the picky eater could enjoy. Well butter my back side and call me a biscuit :-). She loves the Lechon (roast pork) and I discovered the Chipotle Pork Chops on the special board and we have been regulars for those two entrees ever since. The flan is delicious for dessert when they get it right. There have been a couple of times where it was overcooked with close to burned crust on the top and bottom. Just say no when they bring that out. We don't go at peak lunchtime so parking is easy in the strip mall parking lot. The interior is simple and comfortable enough. Suburban area authentic Cuban restaurant. The service was top notch!!! Frederick did a great job of making our lunch an enjoyable experience. He said that the owner was his uncle and it is apparent that he has great pride in his family and heritage, and making the restaurant a success. He was one of the best servers that we have ever had, including high end establishments. The food was great, so much so that my husband made sure to pack it into our cooler for our three hour trip home. Give it a try when you are in the Tallahassee area, three miles off of I-10, so it's too good to pass up if you are traveling in the northern part of the sunshine state. read more

It seems to be that I crave Cuban food on Sundays. Given that the other Cuban place in Tallahassee has horrid reviews from fellow Cubans, well, I've heard that Habana's is the only decent place for Cuban food in town. They are, unfortunately, closed on Sundays. As it turns out, I finally craved Cuban food on a day other than Sunday, which meant I didn't have to cook it myself, and more so, I could finally try out this restaurant. Yay! We went on a Friday night and we ordered a lot of goodies. To start off with, if you're a beer drinker like my companion, be aware they have a selection of it. I mention it as I don't believe it was listed on the menu. They also have wine. As for food, the better question is what didn't we have. We started off with croquetas and chicken empanadas. The croquetas were sheer perfection given that they didn't make me horribly miss Miami. The empanadas though? They were tasty, but they were a bit dry. I'd recommend cooking the chicken in them less and having a sauce to boot. Our main dishes were pork chunks and breaded steak. My companion had his pork and he inhaled it. The moro rice that came with it was good, too, but the French fries, he said, needed work. As for my breaded steak - I got it with rice and fried yuca. The yuca came with a sauce, which may or may not have been the same one we got for the croquetas, and this was out of this world. The even better part? The portion was massive and I got three meals out of it. The service, too, was spectacular. Maria attended us and we even got to talk about recipes. She wants to learn to make picadillo, and well, I'm hoping to return soon to ask her if she finally made it. read more

Not great. I'm pretty sure the black beans were right out of a can... Super liquidy with no sickness whatsoever in the sauce. The rice had no flavor. The croquettes were good. The bread was OK. My husband ordered a Cuban coffee and I heard them actually making it but when he got it, it wasn't hot, which is strange. My son and I both ordered the same meal yet. Our portion sizes were completely different. The order was for pork chunk (masas de puerco) and several of mine were just fat with no sign of meat. We were still looking forward to having real cute food and it was a very disappointing meal. read more

On a whim, I decided to go to Habana's Boardwalk. It's been years since I last ate there, and after having lunch there yesterday, it will be many more years before I eat there again. Having lived in Panama and Miami where Cuban establishments serve excellent dishes, I was not impressed with Habana's. The service was good, along with the typical Cuban ambiance. The Picadillo was good, but a bit on the salty side. There were no raisins in my dish. I also ordered rice and beans and Maduros. The rice and beans as well as the Maduros were overcooked, dry, and not very tasty. I will try to eat at another Cuban restaurant up in a shopping center next to Esposito's and sample their fare. I swore off Gordo's after having dinner there last month. Frankly speaking, I would rate Habana's Boardwalk as a 2.5! read more

I haven't been to Habanas in years but I was craving Cuban food so my husband and I stopped for lunch before a Costco run. We shared the lechon entree with moros and tostones and got the croquetas and an empanada to share as well. They only had a couple beer options so we went with the Mexican beer they had available. The service was prompt and friendly. They brought our entree out on two plates which was very nice since we didn't even ask, we are fine with putting a plate in the middle and going at it but this was obviously easier and the plate had plenty on it. I feel like plate sharing is a divided subject but I am in full support, I'm not trying to be hurting and suffering through the rest of my day especially if I have chores to take care of. The pork was delicious and the sauce was excellent! I'm looking forward to adding this to our pre-Costco run restaurant list. Gonna try the Cuban next time for sure. read more

We started with a cup of cafe con leche and it was perfect! My dining companion ordered the Cuban sandwich and it was exceptional. The moduros were very good- the best since Miami. My empanada was flaky and filled with a nice beef filling served with a cilantro sauce. The yucca fries were perfect! My ropa villa was so good I would definitely order it again. I recently had the pleasure of eating here. I have to say that the overall experience was tremendous. From the moment I stepped inside and the friendly staff seated me all the way to when I was finishing up my Cuban coffee after my meal and was leaving. Being one of the only Cuban restaurants in town, I was skeptical (I have tried the others, not impressed). I ordered the croquetas to try and they were delicious, crispy on the outside and hot on the inside. The sauce they came with was so good I used it for my main meal. I decided to try the Palomilla steak with Moro and sweet Plantains and I was not disappointed. The steak was basically cooked to perfection and was so tender and flavorful with the sautéed onions on top that I had to pause and take it all in (no joke). It was served with a generous portion of Moro (mixed rice and beans) and Sweet plantains that added a burst of flavor and texture to the dish. After I finished eating I ordered a Cuban coffee to make the experience more authentic. I do not have a photo of this, but the aroma alone was enough to make my mouth water, and the taste was amazing. The coffee was strong, yet smooth, with just the right amount of sweetness. It was the perfect complement to finish my meal. Overall, I must say that this Cuban restaurant exceeded my expectations in every way. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was inviting, and the service was top-notch. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in town looking for an authentic Cuban dining experience. Today is July 26th/2019. Service: 5 stars (read my previous reviews) Vaca Frita: 4 stars. It is good but for my taste it was a tad salty. Texture is good and it was cooked very nicely. Of all the meats I have tried here, nothing beats their LECHÓN!!! Tres Leches: 1 star. It was disappointing! Flavors were off, cake was hard and not moist or wet as it should be. Had been meaning to stop by this place for a long time; just kept forgetting; actually dined in this restaurant several years ago and enjoyed the meal. Well, finally did get back. Safety protocols are in effect, which is good. Went in the restaurant to order for take-out; chicken empanadas (with delicious dipping sauce), red beans and rice, and vaca frita with white rice and sweet plantains; we enjoyed our meal; my husband isn't too crazy about the plantains, but I love them and these were cooked just right. Everything was good; we will definitely return, but won't wait so long next time! Of note, I came in the wrong door, apparently, and the young lady informed me that I needed to go in the other door to order for take out; guess I didn't notice this but she wasn't the most friendly person; probably would have given five stars if not for the barely lukewarm interaction. :o) read more

Am I the Yelper or is my mom?! She suggested this restaurant after she had been here for lunch with coworkers, so we decided to come here instead of our usual brunch and diner breakfast options. Habana's Boardwalk is located in an unassuming plaza. The shop was quiet and not very full but had also just opened. They easily arranged the tables for our group of 8. I asked why they had Peruvian food on the menu (lomo saltado is NOT Cuban) and he gave a great answer - after the new management took over, people still wanted the lomo saltado. And it makes sense, since my dad ended up ordering this and it was pretty tasty. I got the vaca frita per recommendation of the server, and even though it wasn't the most Instagram worthy dish, it was filling and delicious. It was crispy but tender and I loved the rice and beans. After a filling meal, we splurged on dessert, which never happens with my parents but we did it. And since there were 8 of us... why not order 5 desserts yikes. We definitely only needed, like, 3. The flan was pretty standard - but I really liked the tres leches. The cake seemed just a simple white cake, but the LECHES. The cake was drenched, just how I like it (and how it should be). My cafe con leches went well with the desserts. Overall, it's a pretty cheap Cuban meal. While I can't speak for authenticity, not having been to Cuba or growing up with many Cuban friends, the food was excellent! read more

I've been here a few times and I love the consistency. The customer service is awesome. The staff are polite and accommodating. The food is the best part. The flavors and the smells just screams authentic. If you are a fan of Cuban food I recommend this; it's a change from the chain restaurants that we also enjoy. Habana's Boardwalk Cuban Restaurant is a local gem in Tallahassee. We have enjoyed many a meal, both dine-in and takeout over the years. On our most recent visit, we ordered a Cuban sandwich, a beef empanada, a chicken empanada, ham croquettes, yucca fries and tostones. We split everything and there's enough leftover for two lunches the next day :) The food is satisfying and good value for money. The staff are personable and attentive. On a busy Friday night, nearly every table is full, but there staff get the orders taken and the food arrives in swift fashion. Excellent Cuban sandwich and sweet plantains. I've had other meals in the past and they've all been very good. I lived in Miami for twenty years. Havana's can hold it's own. The plantain chips (Mariquitas) were not made there at the restaurant. They were from a bag. Served without MoJo. The only disappointment. Service was good. Parking good. I tried Chi Chi's the day before and I was in the mood for another Cuban. I took my girlfriend to the orthodontist and one of the employees there mentioned Habana's Boardwalk. I didn't get a Cuban but my waiter talked me into a meal I'm glad I got. I got the Vaca Frita (Beef) and Moros (rice & beans) sweet plantains and Cuban toast. (I put the beef on the toast) it was delicious. This was some of the best bread I've ever had. My only issue was that some of the beef was a tad bit dry but I would Definitely go back. I'm a little upset because I pass Habana's Boardwalk ALL the time going to Walmart on Mahan. I really feel like there should have been a sign in the middle of the street instructing me to go there! read more

First thing first i am Cuban and second I'm from Miami and let meeee tell you this is the best Cuban food in Tallahassee it is authentic Cuban food with the best croquetas and the best vaca frita no other Cuban restaurant here tastes like this place.
