Only nice thing about this place is the cute garden outside. Food is mediocre and way overpriced. We made reservations for celebration about 10 days ahead. When we came in there was no table available. Server tried to prepare a table in room to the right. He failed to do that. Then we got seated in a middle of cafe. After 15 minutes we were asked to go sit at the booth table because they have a bigger party coming. We waited for a food for about an hour. In a mean time waitress kept coming to ask are we doing ok,.lol Our table was next to the bathroom and we heard waitress talking amongst themselves about what they found in one of the stalls. Then customers next to us were asked to stand up, as apparently their seat is a bench and staff is storing bleach bottles in those benches. So 2 older ladies had to get up so staff can retrieve bottle of bleach from under their seat. Food was nothing but mediocre and simple mocktail cost $14 at lunch time. This was a beautiful spot. The owner is delightful. I had a pasta dish with a creme sauce. If I were to make a critique, it would be about a third less crème. An impromptu trip to Peru is absolutely within reach, and shockingly affordable! We had a last minute opportunity to go out for dinner and decided to make a reservation for Cafe de Martin because they had availability for our semi "early bird" time slot. We chose to dine on their colorful outdoor terrace, and when I tell you that we were transported to another country.... I mean, it literally took us out of Tally and dropped us in a tropical paradise. As the sun went down, the lights began to glow. The ambiance was surreal. I repeatedly told my husband I felt thousands of miles away from home. Was it the cafe lights or the Sangria? I can't be sure. The live music began and it was a whole vibe. Heads turned, ears perked up, and an entire terrace just exhaled. The sultry atmosphere was only overshadowed by the savory food. Dear Lord we ate far too much. What is that saying? Ask forgiveness not permission. Sounds about right. We started with cocktails and Fried Yucca. The Jamaican Margarita was a perfect blend with a sweet sugared rim. The Sangria was a full party in the glass with fresh fruit. The Yucca portion was hefty, but we ate it ALL. In hindsight, we should have saved more room for our actual meal. We ordered Lomo Saltado Beef that was so tender and rich, and it was accompanied by another hefty portion of indulgent carbs. See? That's where moderation in our starter would have been wise. Ahh lessons learned. If we had saved half of the Yucca for leftovers it would have reheated in an air fryer beautifully. We also ordered the Escabeche which was a beautifully fried , snapper filet served with sweet potato and rice. The sauce was simple and elegant with that classic tart vinegar bite. This trip did not start out well. My wife ordered tea and I ordered water and they told me that they do not have tap water. I asked how do they make the tea, how do they wash the dishes? She, defiantly, said we don't have tap water. We should have left at that point. We ordered salads and the salad part was great but, as you can see from the attached picture, the chicken fingers, that I ordered, are not chicken fingers at all. They are chicken patties cut up to look like chicken fingers. It tasted like it Tyson frozen chicken patty. We will not be back! read more

The interior of the place was super cute and well put together. Ambiance is perfect for a date night. The food was honestly one of the best overall meals I've had in Tallahassee with all things considered. But, and it is a big one, the service here was pretty bad. The staff weren't rude or anything, but when we were seated no server returned to the table for over 15 minutes. We were literally greeted by the owner (really nice dude) and still no waiter. Eventually a random server came up and asked if anyone had already taken care of us, and she took down our order. The food also took a while to come out, but I didn't mind that as much since the food was so good. Just recently heard about this restaurant and wanted to give it a try. My daughter and I decided to have lunch there. It took a minute for someone to notice us when we got in. Love the decor, especially the outdoor area. Very colorful/lively. It was a nice day, and we initially requested outdoor seating. However, because our table wasn't one with an umbrella, it became very warm, very quickly and we then requested an inside table. In hindsight, we should have stayed outside in that it took an extremely long time for someone to come to take our order once we moved inside and was seated. And once the order was taken, it also took a while for the food to be served. Of note, we noticed that a gentleman who was seated next to us about 30 minutes after we had been there, received his order within ten minutes and way BEFORE we received our order! For starters, we ordered the veggie rolls, which were delish! My daughter had an expresso, which she said was very good. She also ordered a mimosa. She had the beef dish and really enjoyed it. I ordered the Chicken Pesto sandwich with sweet potato fries; however, the order was served with regular fries. When I mentioned the mix up, my order was taken and brought back with the sweet potato fries - all six or seven fries! The chicken tasted a bit bland. Definitely not worth the money I spent on this particular order. We both had salads with our meals. Still, we didn't want to leave without sampling some of the desserts - dulce de leche cookies and crema volteada (flan). I may return to sample other items on the menu. This was a very busy restaurant. It's perfect while traveling through. We were in there from start to finish for an hour and a half. So if you are in a hurry. I wouldn't suggest eating here. If you have the time, this is a very good restaurant. Everything was fresh, just extremely busy. It's kind of noisy inside and out but they had live music outside which was nice for Father's Day. We both ordered the ceviche. It was fresh and good. I wasn't use to having large pieces of fish. I didn't eat the fish hardly. My husband liked his. I would order something different next time. Visited Tallahassee with a friend for her graduation, and nobody in the party had ever had Peruvian food, but this is the place she chose for her graduation meal and I'm so glad she did! I think everyone enjoyed their meals, but I absolutely loved mine!!It was the best thing I ate while I was in Tallahassee and I'm so glad I read all of the five star reviews about it that particular dish before hand I ordered the Pasta Huancaina with Lomo Saltado and substituted the steak for chicken, and it was absolutely delicious! It was a large portion, and I took the rest of it home and had it for dinner. I also had a taste of the passionfruit cheesecake and the peanut butter cheesecake, and the passionfruit cheesecake was so good. My sister and I weee in town for a dog show and found this through Yelp. It was perfect! They have a super adorable patio that is dog friendly. The staff were super friendly and attentive without hovering. We tried the Chicha Power cocktail which was somewhat like sangria with spice (definitely recommend) and Causas appetizer with chicken salad which was fantastic and could be a meal. My wife and I found Cafe de Martin on Yelp when we went to Tallahassee to go to Costco! We were there, mid-afternoon and sat out on the patio which is very nice and cozy. Regarding the food, looking over the menu the high prices immediately stood out.....but despite the $27 price, my wife and I both had the Lomo Asado thinking that for $27 the portions must be pretty big. We were wrong, it was a small portion of meat, rice and fries. We had absolutely no issue with the taste which was excellent, but I was still hungry when I finished. I popped in for a quick snack and realized that Cafe de Martin has expanded a great deal since my last visit long ago. There is outdoor seating and the inside seating has doubled. I ordered and received quickly (@5pm) the crunchy calamari. It was presented beautifully and had a good portion for the price $15. Tender & crispy with 2 sauces. The yucca fries were good. I didn't know what the "fried corn" would be and was glad to learn and taste individual corn kernels deep fried to a great added crunchiness. The building itself is super unique with a nice outdoor area you can eat at. I got the pesto linguini pasta with steak and the pesto was amazing, probably some of the best I have ever had. Next time i would definitely get the chicken instead of the steak because it would fit the dish more and the steak was overcooked. Food was overpriced, I paid 30 dollars for 6 pieces of chewy meat. Taste was very underwhelming. I waited 30 minutes for my server to give me the check, watched as I clicked the tip amount (so I felt pressured to do 20% when the service was undeserving ) and I was charged an extra 6 dollars for juice I didn't order. When I noticed the error, the server gave me back 6 dollars in cash ( which did not include the tip or tax) , so I actually lost a dollar due to her own error. read more

When our son, who is WELL ACQUAINTED with Peruvian food, visited us in Tallahassee a few years ago, we headed right to Cafe de Martin for lunch. I cannot recall the names of the dishes we ate, but ALL 4 of us were delighted, including me; gluten free. There was polenta, sweet potatoes & shrimp involved! Delish! Im so glad I tried this hidden gem. We sat outside when the weather was nice and they had live music which created a very family friendly / date night atmosphere. The first time we went service was phenomenal and the owner made sure to talk with every table. However the second time they might have been short staffed and it was pretty chaotic and mistakes were being made making our dinning time 3 hours (which is no problem to me but maybe others). However the staff were super apologetic and made sure to comp a few drinks. The food and drinks have hit both times ive been. Their bartenders know how to make delicious and authentic Peruvian drinks. The ceviche is always extremely fresh and flavor full. And the pasta and steak always is so comforting. Me and my girlfriend always split it and still have some leftover thats how big their portions are. We had a very poor experience due to the manager of Matins. Their hostess sat our party of 12 at a table reserved for someone else, by mistake. When the manager realized their error he asked us to leave since there was no place for us to sit. No apology. No regret after we all made our drink orders. He proceeded to cuss at two of the ladies in our party. He said "F you and F your family". How can a manager speak to customers like this? No doubt, Martin would be appalled. read more
