When we came in there was no table available. Server tried to prepare a table in room to the right. He failed to do that. Then we got seated in a middle of cafe. After 15 minutes we were asked to go sit at the booth table because they have a bigger party coming. We waited for a food for about an hour. In a mean time waitress kept coming to ask are we doing ok,.lol [[HIGHLIGHT]]Our table was next to the bathroom and we heard waitress talking amongst themselves about what they found in one of the stalls.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Then customers next to us were asked to stand up, as apparently their seat is a bench and staff is storing bleach bottles in those benches.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So 2 older ladies had to get up so staff can retrieve bottle of bleach from under their seat. An impromptu trip to Peru is absolutely within reach, and shockingly affordable! We had a last minute opportunity to go out for dinner and decided to make a reservation for Cafe de Martin because they had availability for our semi "early bird" time slot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We chose to dine on their colorful outdoor terrace, and when I tell you that we were transported to another country.... I mean, it literally took us out of Tally and dropped us in a tropical paradise.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]As the sun went down, the lights began to glow. The ambiance was surreal. I repeatedly told my husband I felt thousands of miles away from home.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Was it the cafe lights or the Sangria? I can't be sure. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The live music began and it was a whole vibe. Heads turned, ears perked up, and an entire terrace just exhaled.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The sultry atmosphere was only overshadowed by the savory food. Dear Lord we ate far too much. What is that saying? Ask forgiveness not permission. Sounds about right. We started with cocktails and Fried Yucca. The Jamaican Margarita was a perfect blend with a sweet sugared rim. The Sangria was a full party in the glass with fresh fruit. The Yucca portion was hefty, but we ate it ALL. In hindsight, we should have saved more room for our actual meal. We ordered Lomo Saltado Beef that was so tender and rich, and it was accompanied by another hefty portion of indulgent carbs. See? That's where moderation in our starter would have been wise. Ahh lessons learned. If we had saved half of the Yucca for leftovers it would have reheated in an air fryer beautifully. We also ordered the Escabeche which was a beautifully fried , snapper filet served with sweet potato and rice. The sauce was simple and elegant with that classic tart vinegar bite. We looked at the dessert menu. I repeat, looked. We simply had no more room. We'll be back soon and promise to make it to the dessert menu and coffee. read more

This trip did not start out well. My wife ordered tea and I ordered water and they told me that they do not have tap water. I asked how do they make the tea, how do they wash the dishes? She, defiantly, said we don't have tap water. We should have left at that point. We ordered salads and the salad part was great but, as you can see from the attached picture, the chicken fingers, that I ordered, are not chicken fingers at all. They are chicken patties cut up to look like chicken fingers. It tasted like it Tyson frozen chicken patty. We will not be back! read more

Ambiance is perfect for a date night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was honestly one of the best overall meals I've had in Tallahassee with all things considered. But, and it is a big one, the service here was pretty bad. The staff weren't rude or anything, but when we were seated no server returned to the table for over 15 minutes. We were literally greeted by the owner (really nice dude) and still no waiter. Eventually a random server came up and asked if anyone had already taken care of us, and she took down our order. The food also took a while to come out, but I didn't mind that as much since the food was so good. The only flaw to this place is the mid service but if they lock that in it'll be an easy 5/5 rating. read more

Just recently heard about this restaurant and wanted to give it a try. My daughter and I decided to have lunch there. It took a minute for someone to notice us when we got in. Love the decor, especially the outdoor area. Very colorful/lively. It was a nice day, and we initially requested outdoor seating. However, because our table wasn't one with an umbrella, it became very warm, very quickly and we then requested an inside table. In hindsight, we should have stayed outside in that it took an extremely long time for someone to come to take our order once we moved inside and was seated. And once the order was taken, it also took a while for the food to be served. Of note, we noticed that a gentleman who was seated next to us about 30 minutes after we had been there, received his order within ten minutes and way BEFORE we received our order! For starters, we ordered the veggie rolls, which were delish! My daughter had an expresso, which she said was very good. She also ordered a mimosa. She had the beef dish and really enjoyed it. I ordered the Chicken Pesto sandwich with sweet potato fries; however, the order was served with regular fries. When I mentioned the mix up, my order was taken and brought back with the sweet potato fries - all six or seven fries! The chicken tasted a bit bland. Definitely not worth the money I spent on this particular order. We both had salads with our meals. Still, we didn't want to leave without sampling some of the desserts - dulce de leche cookies and crema volteada (flan). I may return to sample other items on the menu. This dining experience was fantastic! Visited Tallahassee with a friend for her graduation, and nobody in the party had ever had Peruvian food, but this is the place she chose for her graduation meal and I'm so glad she did! We sat inside and were taken care of by Daniela and Christian, who were both incredibly attentive and very friendly....GREAT service!!! We ordered a carafe each of mimosas and sangria for the table, and although I didn't partake, I heard that the fruit in the sangria packed a strong punch. I think everyone enjoyed their meals, but I absolutely loved mine!!It was the best thing I ate while I was in Tallahassee and I'm so glad I read all of the five star reviews about it that particular dish before hand I ordered the Pasta Huancaina with Lomo Saltado and substituted the steak for chicken, and it was absolutely delicious! It was a large portion, and I took the rest of it home and had it for dinner. I also had a taste of the passionfruit cheesecake and the peanut butter cheesecake, and the passionfruit cheesecake was so good. My sister and I weee in town for a dog show and found this through Yelp. It was perfect! My wife and I found Cafe de Martin on Yelp when we went to Tallahassee to go to Costco! We were there, mid-afternoon and sat out on the patio which is very nice and cozy. Regarding the food, looking over the menu the high prices immediately stood out.....but despite the $27 price, my wife and I both had the Lomo Asado thinking that for $27 the portions must be pretty big. We were wrong, it was a small portion of meat, rice and fries. We had absolutely no issue with the taste which was excellent, but I was still hungry when I finished. I popped in for a quick snack and realized that Cafe de Martin has expanded a great deal since my last visit long ago. There is outdoor seating and the inside seating has doubled. I ordered and received quickly (@5pm) the crunchy calamari. It was presented beautifully and had a good portion for the price $15. Tender & crispy with 2 sauces. The yucca fries were good. I didn't know what the "fried corn" would be and was glad to learn and taste individual corn kernels deep fried to a great added crunchiness. The building itself is super unique with a nice outdoor area you can eat at. I got the pesto linguini pasta with steak and the pesto was amazing, probably some of the best I have ever had. Next time i would definitely get the chicken instead of the steak because it would fit the dish more and the steak was overcooked. It was excellent lightly refreshing non alcoholic beverage that will remind you of a light wassail perfect for warmer weather. We started off with the calamari. My son got the Lomo Saltado. My wife ordered a pasta dish (I forgot to get the name of). I ordered Pescado A Lo Macho. All dishes were fantastic. Flavors were excellent. I added there house sauce to mine, because I like it spicy. I thought this dish was amazing. My wife's taste thought the pasta was a little too rich with cream, but I thought it was perfect. All of us loved the flavors of the Lomo Saltado. We finished the meal with the best Tres Leches I have ever had. I cannot recall the names of the dishes we ate, but ALL 4 of us were delighted, including me; gluten free. There was polenta, sweet potatoes & shrimp involved! Delish! Im so glad I tried this hidden gem. We sat outside when the weather was nice and they had live music which created a very family friendly / date night atmosphere. The first time we went service was phenomenal and the owner made sure to talk with every table. However the second time they might have been short staffed and it was pretty chaotic and mistakes were being made making our dinning time 3 hours (which is no problem to me but maybe others). However the staff were super apologetic and made sure to comp a few drinks. The food and drinks have hit both times ive been. Their bartenders know how to make delicious and authentic Peruvian drinks. The ceviche is always extremely fresh and flavor full. And the pasta and steak always is so comforting. Me and my girlfriend always split it and still have some leftover thats how big their portions are.
