We have been long-term customers of El Jalisco. The food quality, quantity, service, and cleanliness has gone so far downhill that this will be our last visit. I hate to leave this review. I really do. The last time we were in was nearly a year ago, we decided to give it another try. It has gotten even worse. I don't know if this is indicative of a problem with this single location or if it is across the board, but the chimichanga looked like a lunch sized portion of a burrito and it wasn't even fried. We never really have super high expectations at a fast casual Mexican restaurant. But this was just sad. Nearly every table in the restaurant needed cleared and they were seating everyone in one small zone because the entire other half of the restaurant was full of garbage and dirty dishes on the tables. read more

Stopped in for lunch. I love a lunch menu! Had a crispy chicken taco, cheese enchilada, rive and beans. Everything tasted good. The salsa is really flavorful and fresh. I did find the beans needed salt and hot sauce kicked everything up a notch. Server was very nice and attentive. Dining room is big and they have a huge patio. Service is always good when I go. It's not the most authentic thing in the world, but the food is still good. My girlfriend requires we get the Chorizo Queso as an appetizer, I prefer it without the chorizo but we've learned to compromise and switch back and forth. It's liquid gold lol. She likes the Birria Quesadilla and I usually get it myself or I'll go with the fajitas. I'm always satisfied leaving here and have been coming back for many years. I learned about this restaurant chain sadly from the news about a guest falling off a donkey statue and sued them for that. Even though this wasn't the branch, I wanted to visit the restaurant infamous about the incident, try their food, and see if they still allow guests to hop on the donkey. I arrived on a Saturday evening and was greeted immediately by a host who wanted to seat me in the back area of the dining room. Since that area was mostly empty, I decided to sit in the bar instead. The bartender greeted me and asked for my drink. I decided to just try their regular margarita (10.50). It was a nice drink with the right amount of citrus flavor from the lime. The tequila was on the lighter side, but enough for a small buzz. I should have asked without salt on the rim as it did get a bit salty. For my entree, I chose the grilled chicken with onions (about 16 dollars). Even though it was included, I asked for no tortillas or beans. Instead, I just took the rice, guacamole salad, and pico de gallo that was included as well. The chicken was grilled nicely and had the right amount of seasonings. The rice was ok, but I enjoyed the grilled onions that were in the bottom of the chicken more. I also found the guacamole salad and pico de gallo fresh and delicious. The amount of food was plentiful, but I was able to finish most of the stuff and didn't take any leftovers home. The service was a bit informal, but still friendly and good. I felt bad for the bartender as she was the only one catering to various customers, but still managed to keep a smile. I found the atmosphere to be a bit dull. While one part of the dining area was mostly full, the other part was quite empty. While the bar area did have guests, it was mostly quiet. No music was in the background, so I didn't feel the fiesta mood. Outdoor seating was available, and some did enjoy that. But of course we do need to talk about the donkey! This branch did have a donkey statue, however this was not the one where the guest fell off. That branch was somewhere else, and I believe now they rope off the statue to prevent people from getting on. However, this branch donkey still allows people to "ride" for photos, as there is a saddle and stirrups to help in getting on and off. So of course, there was no chance I would leave without having a ride. The bartender was very nice to take a picture of me on it, and reminded me to be careful when dismounting. Thus, this is the only branch that I know where you still can ride the donkey. So please ride responsibly and at your own risk! Overall, I found El Jalisco to be a bit underrated. The food is good and the prices seem reasonable. The service was friendly even though it was pretty casual. If they add some background music in the bar area, and maybe a bit more tequila in the margarita, this place can have a good fiesta. I would eat here again, especially to have another burro ride. read more

I came here with a friend for my birthday, my 22nd birthday and I'm not surprised I get carded but for him to take my ID back to wherever and finally come back and actually give me my drink just to try to take the cash I left on the table at the end and say I didn't pay and then say he found the cash once I brought up camera footage and cops. 3 of us had dinner here last night and was surprised to get seated immediately since it was a Friday around 5:45pm. The waiter was very pleasant and attentive. However, the food was average to below average. And, the $15 top shelf margarita was a waste of money. The fish tacos were comprised of 3 tacos filled with crumbled, tasteless Mahi Mahi, lettuce, cheese, and a side of pico de gallo. Also came with refried beans and the typical yellow rice. Overpriced at $15. The birria tacos were just ok, lacked flavor. Also came with the side of refried beans and rice. $17! The only entree that was pretty good was the chicken quesadilla. Overall I was not impressed and was disappointed that we spent $60 for this dinner! I'll stick to my fav place in Quincy, Las Delicias! read more

If you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine, this isn't it. However, the food comes out quickly and is tasty. Recently I tried the Cancun fajitas made up of shrimp, white fish, and crab. The portions were so great I was able to eat at the restaurant, and the remaining portion the next day. I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the fish was because I'm not usually a fish person. To put it plainly, I like my fish to taste like chicken, so I usually just order chicken. This fish was not fishy at all, but instead cooked just right to where it flaked with a fork. The crab and shrimp were both seasoned well alongside the sautéed fajita veggies. This is by far my favorite local spot. The staff is incredibly friendly. They allow me to practice my Spanish with them each week. Some even love to mess with me as they try and trip me up with extra long and fast sentences, but I adore them. I always start with the BOGO margaritas. I prefer on the rocks with salt, but they do have frozen as well as flavored. You can order the small or large. Next, of course, are the apps. Chips and salsa comes to the table as a given. We also like to order the queso or table side guacamole. As for an entree, our family favorites are the chicken/shrimp fajitas, quesadillas, soft tacos, and for my most pickiest eater, the mozzarella sticks. Food quality was fair, those of us in the group from Texas did not care for their version of Tex Mex specialities. Chimichunga was more of a burrito but it had lots of chicken filling. Chile Relleno was more of a stir fry and not stuffed fried poblano pepper goodness. Enchiladas were tasteless , spinach and cheese . Server was clueless, several orders were incorrect and some things totally forgotten. The fresh guacamole was not prepared tableside as mentioned in the menu but was chunky and flavorful. Usually I love this place but tonight's experience did not go well. I ordered to go and the food wasn't ready when it said it would be. It was about 10-15 minutes after. Not a big deal it was busy. But when we got home we noticed we were missing some rice and beans. Once again no big deal, things happen. The real issue was when we started eating. I found a hair in the cheese of my taco and there was wood in the steak from the fajitas. I understand that accidents happen but I was not happy with tonight's experience. read more

New Year's Eve lunch. I arrived before 3:00, ordered tea and read over the menu. I saw their lunch specials and one had just what I wanted! When my server came back to take my order, I ordered their $4.99 lunch special at 3:05. They quit serving lunch special at 3:00. I'd been there! I was pretty upset because the special was indeed what I wanted and I was going to order a couple of sides to make up for the lunch price being so low and to support the business. The server's (Miquel) attitude was smug. He kept pushing their build your own special. I ordered it at $13. I did not order any other sides. I wish I'd read my last review before ordering because nothing much had changed. I will say that employees had their masks on this time. If Miquel had given me the lunch special, my bill would have been higher and he would have gotten a really big tip rather than 20 percent. The business manager reached out last time but offered no contact information. This place has gone downhill so much in flavor, (rice, beans, fillings). A friend and I ate at this ElJalisco last night. I had a top shelf margarita which was not at all good and was very expensive. Over $15.00. I ordered a Chile Relleno with rice and beans. The waiter brought chile con carne. I told him that wasn't what I ordered. He said, "Chile for you!" I knew he understood my order because he repeated it back to me. Service is fast, even when they are busy (though parking can be tricky on busy nights). The atmosphere is loud but not annoyingly so. Staff are friendly and authentic. The parking is always full by El Jalisco with a bunch of parties heading in. So I decided to go in and give it a try and boy am I glad I did. There was only a few minute wait even with the place packed. Sat down and got a huge bowl of complementary still hot chips and fresh salsa. Ordered some ceviche was super surprised when it came out in big platter.. old school potions SCoRe!!! the portions are like 1980's huge. For our entrees she got Cancun fajitas that came in huge sizzling plate with a plate just for the sides and wraps. And I got a fantastic creamy Chicken Adobe and both where as good as they look and portions big enough to take half home for another meal.
