Went to pick up some nachos on Friday night. Those Clifton streets are dark but the smile that greeted me was bright. The young lady that took my order was very patient. I needed my nacho toppings in separate containers. Guacamole was good but the veggie chili was very good. The chips had alot of salt I didn't mind, it helped from eating all of them in one night. The food was delicious. I have just a couple of complaints ; no utensils were given, the condiments ( sour cream, dressing etc) it was too small! Please try to give at least 2 tablespoons. This was my first time trying Habanero, but I'd like to come back to try out more items from their menu. Overall, the food is decent. I had Camarones a la diabla, which lived up to its name in terms of spicy-ness, and flavor. I think I could've done without the rice & beans, or possibly switch for something else? I also tried their guacamole which is fresh, although I would've liked more use of cilantro & onions. They also have traditional Mexican juices like horchata, jamaica, and tamarindo. It is a very small restaurant, with about 3-4 tables so I wouldn't recommend coming here with a large group. It's a good place for a quick bite. A small Mexican restaurant that I never knew existed in Passaic. The menu is enormous and the portion sizes are large. I ordered the Beyond Meat Burrito and French fries. The Beyond Meat Burrito comes in an 12 inch tortilla filled with a picadillo stye Beyond Meat, black beans, seasoned rice, and Monterey Jack Cheese with a side of salsa and sour cream. Habanero Restaurant is excellent. Perfect for lunch. It's small but not too small. There is ample seating and it's very clean. The prices are very fair. Not too expensive but not cheap either. The food is very good. I've tried a few things on the menu and my favorite is the shrimp avocado salad. The mustard vinegarette is house made and it's the perfect dressing for this salad. First time takeout from this restaurant, ordered for 4 , was ready in 20 minutes. I had the the supreme fajita, shrimp, steak and chicken. Absolutely awful. My chicken tacos came with flavorless, room temperature chicken and ice cold lettuce. Nothing else beyond the minuscule sides of sour cream and flavorless pico de gallo. I requested cheese, but I was ignored. There was so much lettuce shoved into the "tacos" that the inexplicable outer hard shells were shattered. The beans were flavorless. The rice was okay, I guess, but also overwhelmingly bland. So, if you're into paying $10.50 for two flavorless chicken and lettuce "tacos", this is the place for you! Everyone else would be better off going anywhere but here. Edit: Unsure how to reply to the comment on my review, but this is not Tex Mex. It's like someone heard about Tex Mex and made an attempt at cooking it without ever actually having tasted it. I have a feeling that Habanero is primarily a take-out place. The restaurant has all the charm of a McDonald's in terms of the setting but whoa Nellie, the food is terrific and the prices are great! Friendly serving staff and huge portions. Everything appears to be cooked to order and arrives piping hot. Salsa is excellent! If we lived a bit closer, I'd be a take-out addict of this place but it's too far to bring the food home and have it still be edible and the environment is not pleasant for a dinner out -- I'm not sure how often we'll come (boo!) read more

After a failed attempt of getting food at another Tex-Mex restaurant down the block, I found this place via Yelp, and I was not mad about it! I've actually never had a sit down experience though, just pick-up. Tucked on a corner street in Clifton, parking can be tricky here. Doesn't appear that they have a lot, so strictly street. The store front inside appear quite large, with maybe 10-15 tables. We ordered the Tinga Burrito (Shredded chicken, rice, beans + cheese), steak tacos (soft shell inside a hard shell taco), chicken enchiladas, and mole chicken wings. The tinga burrito is basically the small of a newborn basically, I would recommend you share. Full of flavor, the shredded chicken is juicy, and there is a bit of a kick from the sauce. The taco though was my favorite. There is a soft shell, inside a hard shell, like c'mon, why didn't we have this before? The two shell combo makes a nice texture change, between the soft and crispy, super, freaking awesome. The enchiladas, the layers of chicken, tortilla, and cheese, smothered in mole sauce, like what? All items were full of flavors and richness. Only item that was eh were the mole wings. Flavor was there, however the mole sauce was a bit weird on the wings, and the wings were a bit dry. When on the road away from home I sometimes get a craving for Tex-Mex that is difficult to satiate on the East coast. Habanero satisfied that craving, mostly. I stopped in for lunch so I went with the chicken burrito (black beans, fajita chicken, rice, and jack cheese) with a side of sour cream. The burrito was good but I was disappointed with the salsa that was served with tortilla chips (served when you dine in). The salsa had almost a tomato sauce consistency (and taste), there was no heat, and very little seasoning of cilantro, garlic, or onion. Back home I typically judge a place by their salsa but this is the East coast so I lowered my expectations a bit. Bottom line - I would visit again to try other items on the menu or go with the burrito again - skip the salsa. read more

Waited patiently for this restaurant to finally open and I can now say it was worth the wait. The staff is super friendly and the establishment has been completely renovated and is very nice and very clean. The menu has a nice variety to choose from and the portions are perfect. This place has the best Mexican food in the area. Hands down. We've been ordering since they first opened, and truth be told, we weren't very impressed at first. The food was ok. But we tried again a few months later. And wow. The food has been getting better and better. The delivery is so quick, and the quality is outstanding. It's all incredibly fresh and made with such care. Our personal favorites are the pork taco bites, the jalapeño poppers, the guac and chips, the tortas (the pollo Milanese in particular) and my favorite, the grilled chicken bacon avocado wrap.
