All servers from this point on will be compared to her. She was so attentive but never hovering. It's byo so we brought a bottle of Espolon. Loved it here! As someone who loves lengua (tongue) tacos, these were great! They are also hard to find so I was excited to see them on the menu. I know tongue can sound very off-putting but when cooked right, it is so tender and flavorful. These lengua tacos were no exception! Bursting with flavor and filled, these are some of the heartiest street tacos I've ever had. The chips w/ guacamole and salsa were nice too. Perhaps not the best I've had but very good. The chips were fresh and the salsa was interesting. For the guacamole, this is personal preference but I prefer a chunkier guacamole. This one was very smooth. I also ordered the horchata which was good but a bit too sweet for me. The restaurant is BYOB. You can bring wine and they have a sangria mix for $15 and they'll turn your wine into Sangria. I hadn't been to Azteca in a long time, and everything was just as delicious as I remembered! Always such high quality ingredients and awesome flavors. Brunch was fantastic! My birria street tacos were melt in your mouth divine! Loved the cactus and scallion cooked with it. And the horchata pancakes were so good! Fluffy with a lovely cinnamon and vanilla flavor without being sweet, so the fresh strawberries, banana, whipped cream, and homemade caramel sauce went with it just perfectly! My co worker recommended this place and I was shocked I never had it before, living so close to it. We ordered it to work and I was pleasantly surprised with how good the food was! Had the guacamole and plantable chips which were cooked to perfection! I could not get enough of it. Then I had the tropical tacos (pineapple and shrimp), and I'm still thinking about them. Granted I think they were hosting a party, but it was still great place to hangout. It's BYOB so bring your own bottle. The food came out delicious and the service was amazing. They are still the best I have tried, but I would prefer them a little more crunchier on the outside. Attended a baby shower and have visited this restaurant years prior. Since my last visit they have updated the inside. They used to have very colorful wall decor and seating that seemingly was handpainted, which I loved! Noe they have changed their interior design and have tiles on the walls (pictured) and a more neutral theme, it seems. The place is a lot more open and inviting. I am not positive if the private room was there previously or if that also was new. Their food never disappoints. We had a sampler to start and their guacamole is delicious, as well as their chicken flautas and empanadas. For my meal I got a chicken quesadilla / you cannot go wrong with a good quesadilla! We were there for a while and I don't know the logistics of how long the table was reserved for etc but my only complaint was that it seemed as though the wait staff, one of the gentlemen to be specific, seemed annoyed with our table by the end. Definitely made the experience not as good as it would have been if it weren't for his demeanor. We were a large party but he seemed bothered and over it after a certain point which was off putting. Nonetheless, Azteca is a clean, beautiful restaurant with delicious food. Service: 5 Our server was a lovely young woman who gave us time with our appetizer before asking if we were ready to order, and our meals came out pretty much together, which I've noticed lately in some restaurants hasn't been the case, unfortunately. Food: 3 1/2 We started with the guac/salsa/chips. The guacamole came in a beautiful stone molcajete, looked like lava rock, and it was very good. Our server said it's their house salsa, homemade, "all vegetables." There was no hint of cheese, so perhaps they use yellow tomatoes? Anyway, pretty good, though liquidy. One person had a burrito bowl, and he demolished it, must've been good! His wife had a quesadilla; quite a good portion, 4 large triangles, and she took 2 home. This was served with a little sour cream and a little guacamole. Hubs and I both ordered vegetarian fajitas. They were okay, not superb. I've not had veg fajitas before that had melted mozzarella (or equivalent Mexican cheese?) on top! They're served with a long oval dish, yellow rice on one end, and beans in a sauce taking up the rest of the plate. You get at least 4 flour tortillas to wrap the veggies in. Didn't stay for coffee and dessert, wanting to catch the once-an-hour train back to the City, but they did have desserts and coffees on the menu. This hidden gem in Rutherford is a perfect date night spot! It was quiet, not busy, and the service was top tier. They are very attentive to your table, and so kind! I would recommend getting the Guacamole dip trio- it came with roasted corn, cheese and bacon, and roasted pineapple guacamole- it was phenomenal! The roasted pineapple one was my absolutely favorite- the pineapple meshed so well with the avocado. Also, the Birria tacos were soooo yummy! For me, after a few minutes the tortillas become less crispy and more chewy, but I think that is with any corn tortillas (I'm more of a flour tortilla girl) Would definitely come back here to try more of their menu options! read more

The food here is sooo good. They arnt cheap with the portions either. I had the bowl and the amount of juicy steak on it was impressive. The margarita pitcher they offer isnt really margarita mix...its more like lemonade with selzter mixed in but it still tastes good if not better than most margarita mixers. Also, their Lemonade is made fresh and its delicious. I do notice that they charge some type of convenience fee on the bill and i have no idea wat it is. Wow! What a hidden gem! The restaurant is HUGE! They even have a party room available for private dinners. Although there are no windows the whole place feels so light and airy because of the interior design choices. The staff were attentive, friendly, and answered all of my questions. My group of 4 (3 adults, 1 toddler) dined here the other day. We had the nachos to share, tacos, burrito, and my toddler of course had chicken tenders and fries! We all loved our meals. Came here with a few friends for a quick dinner on a Friday night. I ordered the Birria Tacos which were delicious with the beef. Slightly messy to eat, but tasty nonetheless. We had ordered the chips and guac to share - guac was nice, portion maybe slightly on the smaller side, and chips were slightly too salty. We found parking right across the street with no problem at all. Our server was very sweet and attentive to us during our meal. We ordered our meals and then decided to add the queso afterwards. This place has been on my to-do list for a while and I'm glad I finally made it. The food is absolutely fantastic! I had the Mer y Tierra ( perfectly grilled ribeye and jumbo shrimp). What a spectacular dish. Topped with grilled scallions, a side of hot sauce and the obligatory rice and beans. It was quite the feast. The decor is artistic and very colorful. The lighting could be dimmer and there should be some fun music playing, but nothing that'll keep me from returning. Be warned, like most restaurants these days they are slightly understaffed. The people that were on were working their tails off. Overall a top notch experience. My only beef is that this will be on my regular rotation. Was in the mood for something different and a friend actually recommended Azteca. Was able to be seated relatively quickly. The menu had lots of options. We all got the steak nachos to split which were very yummy. I got the flautas as my entree that were a little over cooked as the chicken was tough to chew through. I'm not sure exactly what it was, but it was pretty good. Everyone at my table enjoyed their meals. The decor has some interesting touristy items like hats. Decided to come here for my boyfriend's birthday. It's BYOB and there's plenty of seating inside. We ordered the enchiladas suizas (one with chicken and other with roasted veggies) and they were delicious. We also ordered chips, guac, and salsa as an app (wished they would serve complimentary chips and salsa). Really really delicious fresh food. My boyfriend and I stopped in to place an order to go. They do have some little tables outside and during Dining Under The Stars. Super friendly service and quick too. We got the chicken nachos to start and they were absolutely delicious. The homemade tortilla chips are a winner here, thick and crunchy. Perfect to hold a big scoop of nacho toppings. The grilled chicken was flavorful and juicy. All the toppings were fresh, no complaints here. My chicken salad was great too. As I continue my quest for the Mexi-Can badge, we hit Rutherford, NJ for a taste of Azteca. We start off with our usual chips and guac. Both were very good. I was very disappointed with the amount of guac. It was a fairly small container. I shouldn't have any chips searching for a place to get dunked as you near the end of the batch. Very tasty and seasoned well but even using the guac sparingly, we ran short way too early. For dinner, I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas and my wife ordered the chicken chimichanga. Mine came with rice, black beans and a slice of avocado. I was disappointed in my dinner. The enchiladas weren't done well in my opinion. It was almost as of it was reheated. I'm not saying it was, but it has that per texture to it when you reheat something. Rice and beans were eh. Now luckily there's two sides to this particular coin. My wife said her chimichanga was excellent. It looked phenomenal to me and luckily she couldn't finish it. So I was able to sneak a piece and it was very, very good. Everything was delicious! For starters: I ordered the chips and guacamole to start. My husband got the Steak Empanadas. He also had a horchata. Our mains: I asked for the grilled vegetables on the chef's salad with steak. He got the Pechuga a la Mexicana. His empanadas came with a nice little "flight" of red sauce, green sauce, and guacamole. He loved the flaky, crispy crust. My order of guacamole came with a good portion of nice warm chips. My salad had a wonderful, flavorful dressing that really went well with the fresh tomatoes and greens. His chicken was juicy and came with a side of yellow rice and black beans. We liked everything we ordered enough to come back tomorrow! Azteca was our go to Mexican restaurant in town for many years. Even though the food was always on the pricier side, the food was always delicious and worth the price. Their rib-eye quesadillas were always one of my favorites. Recently we ordered take-out and discovered that they have changed the way they prepared their dishes much to our disappointment. The quesadillas were prepared with NO cheese at all. The very name quesadilla is derived from QUESO which means cheese. They were tasteless. The tacos and the empanadas were fried in dirty oil and we couldn't even tell what was in them. They even looked scary. I really can't imagine what they were thinking when they decided to change the way they prepare what was once a a menu filled with delicious food. I hope they reconsider and go back to the way they used to prepare the dishes that made them one of our favorites for so long. read more

Rolled in on a Sunday night for a quick dinner. The decor was very nice, especially their carved and colorful chairs. I wish the food was decent though. I ordered a chicken burrito bowl, and took out pretty much all the ingredients because I am fussy. I expected the chicken to have some flavor, like eating at Chipotle, but to my dismay, it was plain, boneless chicken, cut up and fried in oil. My friend's quesadilla was okay, but nothing something to come back for. This was also the first Mexican restaurant I've been to that didn't offer us complimentary chips and salsa. Don't go for the staff - people are rude. We went this evening to this place to celebrate my nephews birthday. We ordered food worth of $375 and they got us one extra dish which we didn't order. If it was a different restaurant they would have said "no problem" but here the staff said DO NOT COME NEXT TIME" and leave. A she was not the owner, not a manager and when told her that you cannot say this to a customer she said Leave or else I WILL CALL THE POLICE. You don't want to go to place where the staff doesn't no how to talk and respect. She didn't give her name - they Cheff came out and said leave or else we will call the police. First, for vegetarian options they were unable to prepare the food without Zucchini (which wasn't a big deal). I ordered the chimichanga but for whatever reason it wasn't made properly and the outside was like a burrito (not fried or baked). And they topped the chimichanga with a spicy sauce - the sauce was so spicy that it felt like my entire body was on fire.
