Habberstad Mini - My new mini convertible ! Yay ! - Car Dealers Near Me - Huntington Station, New York

Please PLEASE do yourself a favor and stay far away from the service department. Incompetent and negligent. This last visit was the proverbial straw. Last February, I had brought my car in for routine maintenance and a hood latch repair because it sat for a period of time while I was away. So they complete the maintenance but forget one very important thing. They didn't replace the latch. So one of their genius techs, took it for a test drive and you guessed it!!! Flew open and they broke my car. Took almost 3 months for them to FINALLY get it right. Forgot the stripes. Hood wouldn't align. I had to speak to the body shop (they don't do on premises body work) myself and finally got it right. And yes ladies and gents, THEY CHARGED ME!!! The owner did step in and I was refunded that repair. Fast forward to Feb of this year. I had to have it towed because some freak starting issue. Again had routine maintenance and a leak from the sunroof that drained into the footwell. So week one was below freezing so I get no movement. Weeks 2-4 I was told "we are short handed". Guess what?? NOT MY PROBLEM!!!! Again, had, (still has) my car for over a month. Mind you ZERO communication and ghosting from the service department manager for this entire ordeal. I use that term SO loosley. I get the text my car is ready so this past Tuesday I go to pick her up and I'm thinking everything is perfect. NOPE!!!! My white headliner is FILTHY!!! Mind you they detailed my car for my inconvenience. How do you not see the dirt??? So incompetent... anyway, the saga continues and I get the text my car is done. I get this picture. Not only is it WORSE but they scrubbed the shite out of it ruining the headliner. I am BEYOND livid. Whatever you do, stay as far away from Habberstad Mini service as you can. This whole department needs training on how to survive in the real world but I digress, common sense isn't so common!!!! read more

I used to take my car for service to the other mini service location when I was first living here and it was a nightmare, so when I moved back to LI and saw that this location was closer I figured I'd give it a try. They make it so easy, super friendly staff that are helpful and aren't trying to scam you. Dishonest and deceptive dealer -- BEWARE! Just a horrible experience with this dealer, specifically their unprofessional and disrespectful sales manager Charlie Klee. Habberstad Mini employs the classic BAIT AND SWITCH tactics that frustrates legitimate buyers, Here's what has transpired thus far: 1. I found the car I wanted on their website (advertised as CPO) 2. The salesman, Jason, told me (over the phone) the backup camera screen was not working but the part was on order. The sales manager, Charlie, told me that if I put a deposit on the car to hold it, they could show the car is sold and that would expedite/prioritize the part order. 3. I drove 3+ hours round trip and liked the car, but they refused to sell it to me because of the backup camera screen. Mind you, the car is under warranty and I was/am fine buying it as is and following up with my local Mini dealer. 4. I have followed up repeatedly, but they still will not sell the car nor will they provide an ETA on when they can finish the transaction. 5. MEANWHILE, the car remains listed "For Sale" on numerous web sites, including their own. They took my deposit to hold it for me until the part comes in, why is it still listed everywhere?? To make matters worse, the car IS NOT Certified. I confirmed this with Mini USA. If the car really can't be sold, why was it listed on EVERY major car buying site? And why was it listed as CPO?? Simple: to bait people into contacting them about a potential "great deal" only to be told, "I can't sell you that car, but have one just like it on the lot for a few thousand more". Charlie has been as unprofessional as they come -- repeatedly ducking my calls and not returning them, being disrespectful and yelling at me when I do get him on the phone, and lying about updates on the "backordered part". The salesman was caught in the middle but did a good job showing me the car and getting the process started. The obstructionist sales manager, however, is a disaster who clearly doesn't know what he's doing. Apparently everything funnels through him, so I'd be VERY careful about doing business with Habberstad Mini. As I type this, I am still waiting and hoping the part comes in (someday) so they will have to honor the deal as originally priced when they took my deposit. My guess is that will never happened and we will see this car relisted at a higher price. From Charlie's viewpoint, it served its purpose -- they attracted a LOT of people and got a LOT of search hits with this LOW priced "CPO" car. His story keeps changing, but the car remains listed on their website even though they supposedly cannot sell it (not to mentiom they have a buyer waiting that left a deposit). It begs the question "Why?". What a shameful business practice. read more

It took 4 hours for me to take delivery of my 2016 MINI. Though the whole process straddled lunch hour and the employees had their own BBQ in the backyard, we were not offered any snacks while stuck waiting for the paper work to complete and could not leave to get lunch. No idea why the paperwork took hours to complete. Sales staff stopped answering my email correspondence once I took delivery. Subsequent phone calls delivered only empty promises. They have yet to send me the missing parts. They've also incorrectly pumped my RFT tires to the tune of 50 psi!! Not sure if this is the New Yorker subculture, but this was an awful experience for me. Not recommended. read more

To add insult to injury, I confirmed appt the day before by phone and confirmed that I could not leave the car and that the appt was 8 am, first thing in the morning so they could do the work immediately while I waited. "No problem," I was told. "It's all in the computer," I was told. "I would be in and out, an hour tops," I was told. Show up the next day, nobody knew anything, wanted to know who told me this "wrong" information and said the computer notes said I was told that I would have to wait 4-6 hours. Oh, and I was there at 8 and that the mechanics didn't come to work until 9. Unbelievable. And when I asked to speak with the service manager, I was told he wasn't in that day. Just bought my first mini. Was on the fence between buying & leasing. Went back & forth for weeks. Phil was unbelievably patient and friendly, crunching numbers, looking at inventory & dealer specials. We went on so many test drives and had a blast! I knew I liked the brand, but couldn't find exactly what I wanted in the color I wanted. Eventually, I settled on a preowned that was prepped very nicely for me. In all the time I never felt pressured or talked into anything. Living in Brooklyn, I've never owned or leased a car in my life before. I didn't really even like cars. In my lifetime I have been to a few auto dealerships when looking for a new vehicle but usually left with them unpleasant experience by being badgered and annoyed by overzealous and enthusiastic sales people on the floor who do not give you a chance to even look at a vehicle but rather start jumping on you trying to make a sale. With that being said I had the most amazing and pleasant experience when I visited habberstad Mini and I met Philip Parlato.. All I can say is that he is amazing at customer service a wonderful listener and somebody who will work with you and your financial situation. Extremely friendly very sweet and courteous NEVER pushy or aggressive.. he allowed me to take a test drive in one of the Mini Coopers without even asking for me to sit down and enter all my information and my credit check and all that which I was very surprised but was a good thing. Then when we went back for service, with an appointment, they made us wait 4 hours until they told us they couldn't do it. 'No Apologies' must be their motto. read more

Like so many other reviews for this dealership I would not even give them 1 star. The service department is just horrible. I won't go into the long specific details (it's too involved) but the bottom line is never expect a call back and it will take a week to get a tire changed. And sales is not much better. We bought a new Mini Countryman, and dealt with George. The experience was easy and painless, which was a nice change from our two previous weekends of car shopping experience. We did use a 3rd party negotiation service through our bank, so that clearly took some of the pain out of car-buying. Also, the free coffee and water while car-shopping terrific. My half-star deduction is only due to the speed of the transaction. There were several moments when we felt like things could have moved more quickly. We attributed this largely to the fact that we had been at the car-buying process (fairly full time) for about two weeks -- so we already knew pretty much exactly what we wanted. Presumably some people like want to feel like they're really being pampered while spending this much $$$, but by the time we ended up here we knew exactly what we wanted and what we were willing to pay -- so we really just wanted to get in and out. Brought mini in for scheduled service (oil change, etc.) and to fix headlights. Brought in on Thursday and was told, as all service departments do, that they would call when it was done or if there was any other issues not previously discussed and agreed to be serviced. Did not expect to pick up that same day because of an appointment in NYC. Called Friday morning and got voicemail and I left a message indicating that I wanted to pick the car but needed to know if the car was done as I needed to arrange for someone to take me to their shop since it was far from my home. No reply on Friday and my ride was only available Friday morning. Called several times on Saturday and left voice mail again, spoke to a call center person twice she indicated that she could not find the car in the system and both times she assured me that the service department would call me back in 5 minutes. They never called. It is now Sunday night and I need my car. Habberstad has very poor customer service and horrendous communications. I still do not know the status of the car, is it done and what the cost may be. I will never use Habbertstad again and will never recommend Habbertstad to anyone. read more

Everything about the process of buying a car has changed since my last purchase in 2003. I was nervous going in and didn't really know what to expect. To my surprise I walked in to cool people wearing jeans and tshirts and zero pushiness. I was met with smiles and kindness. Test drove cars, made my choice - A Mini Cooper Countryman All Wheel Drive and then the dreaded paperwork was to start. This too was easy. The finance manager Amanda was incredible. I've only dealt with the SERVICE department, but they certainly know how to handle themselves! Moved from FL and new to the area, I first brought my 2003 Mini in to ensure that it would pass NY's ridiculous inspections. I was at a dealership, and thus expected to be blindly nickeled-and-dimed every step of the way. NOT SO! Not only did the technicians show me exactly what was going wrong when they found one problem or another, but the good people at Habberstad also talked me through the cheapest options to keep my car on the road. Even when the old girl's transmission started to go, the service team was able to talk me through my options and worked especially hard to make sure I paid as little as possible for a BRAND NEW transmission. Oscar and Tracey are especially excellent at what they do, keeping things light and reasonable, even when conveying bad news. If you have a Mini, don't blindly walk into some local mechanic's place. He won't have the parts and will lay on the gravy. Habberstad, however, will make you feel like a valued customer. They do business right. read more

I had purchased my '09 Cooper S in Southampton and got tired of driving out there for service, I decided to try here. After the great treatment from the service department, I decided I'd stick with them. So much so, I traded in my car for a '12 Countryman S. We were off to a great start! One year is up and it's time for the first service. (12,956 miles) The service crew is gone and now I'm dealing with Tracey. (My wife brought it in since she is the regular driver and works much closer to here) My wife was talked into some 'preventative' procedure that cost over $400. She didn't understand that she was going to be charged and signed anyway. I had told her they can't charge for a repair under warranty since there were only 12000 miles on the car. I go in and pick up the car and Tracey hands me a bill. I asked why am I charged for a 'preventative' procedure when I needed a 'fix' instead? Am I the only one who can't see the logic there? Don't you 'fix' first, and then 'prevent'? Now the arguing gets heated. Thankfully there was a counter separating us. Tracey and I did not hit it off well needless to say. Of course there was nobody else available to speak to, so I had to leave and got a call on my way home. After more arguing I was told that the charges would be reversed for 'Goodwill'. I explained I'd be in the market to replace this one in early '15 and I'd stick with Habberstad. February of this year I had the 2nd year service. (25,191 miles) The car wasn't ready the first day. No real reason given. I was fine with it. I picked it up the second day and was told by Tracey and someone else the printout would be mailed to me. OK A week later I was called for my opinion on the appt. I said all seemed fine, but I never received my copy of the service. I was informed again it would be mailed. Still nothing. Two weeks ago, a service light comes on in RED. (31,561 miles) I brought it in to see what it means. It means it's overdue for an oil change. I said but it was just done in February. Tracey said "No, It wasn't due for a change at that time" WHAT? How could it not be due and why wouldn't you tell me I should get it done anyway? Tracey failed on more than one level here. Now I've got a car with just under 20,000 miles on it's oil. Instead of apologizing, she had me make an appointment to BRING IT BACK YET AGAIN for the oil change. When Tracy is let go, I will gladly return to Habberstad, but not before. I will now be trekking to Southampton yet again for service. And I will definitely not be here in a few months when we trade it in for another Cooper S. Yes Habberstad, you lost a sale due to your service manager. Judging by the other reviewers, I don't feel too alone. read more

Buying from this dealership was a breeze; however, the service department is truly lacking. Tracey (as other reviewers have already mentioned) has awful customer service skills. She tried talking me into services my car did not require. She also charged for services I did not authorize. When I confronted her, she completely confabulated a conversation between her and I (and she even confused which services that she had previously stated should've/did happen). After picking up my car, the very next day a warning light came on saying the drive train was malfunctioning and that I should "drive moderately." I thought this was rather suspicious. When I called to inquire about this warning light, which was being displayed on my FIVE MONTH old car... no one could answer my question. When I called back the following day, I was hung up on three times. Needless to say, I would NOT recommend this service department. It's clear after reading other reviews that they have a reputation for this kind of nonsense. read more

I don't know why I keep trying, but yet again I am disappointed in the Service department. I simply cannot get a return call, and I have been very nice. I tried to go to them last week, no return calls. I tried to give them work in June of this year, and they never called me back. I did have a run-in with Service in March of 2016 (went in for a Mini recall, I knew to tell them I'd wait there for the car and I got it back the same day, but was charged $200 for a power steering flush that they needed to do anyway to remedy the power steering recall...) and I am guessing that I have not received any return phone calls because of that 'history' in my record. They're disorganized or incompetent or thieving - I'm not sure which. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I felt very much mislead through the whole process of having my car repaired, felt pressured to have repairs that weren't really necessary, then ended up being over charged. The "rep" who had pressured me previously had made the mistake and asked me to "shred" my receipt that showed I was being charged over $2500.00. Ripping up my copy would destroy the evidence of her error. After having driven it home, the issues I had (car violently shakes while in gear) are still evident! I've never felt so scammed. Will never return and never recommend. Run! read more
