this place literally is the worst. spent 3 hours doing 4 cornrows for the parts not even to be straight. Then i tried to tell them is crooked and then they tried to tell me its my head shape. when i get my braids done it never looks like that. read more

I previously got my hair done here and within a week it started to fall out. I got twists. The service was not the best. When I asked he her to redo a twist she refused and said it looked good and denied my request. I paid almost 200$ for this and it didn't last long. This is gonna be long. I told her I would be there by 11. I was late because one of my family members took my car. I had to also make two trips because I forgot the hair I bought the first time. My hair was not started until around 12, which was fine. I was told my twists would only take 4 hours, meaning I should have been done around 4. While doing my hair, she would start twists, then go work on some else's hair. Another worker would finish the twists she started VERY slowly. Then I ran out of hair and had to go to multiple beauty supply stores around the area to find the same pack I bought. Once I came back she continued her previous methods discussed before. But then she told me she would take a break and eat, which I found unbelievable. I had been sitting there for six hours at that point with no food or water. I told her I needed to be finished because I had to get back to NY. She finished around 6:30. I ended up missing a college welcoming party on a cruise boat because of this. Also, it ended up itching so bad that I couldn't even sleep at night. I've gotten my hair braided, weaves, etc. and have not had this issue before. I figured it was whatever she sprayed my hair with and I took them out. I called asking for a refund. She completely blew up on me, for she was angry about this review. She yelled at me for a these reasons: 1. Buying the wrong type of hair for the twists I wanted and running out. I explained that when I went to the beauty supply the first time (before I came to the salon) the lady who worked there told me that was the type I needed and that 6 packs would be enough. Perhaps if the stylist had told me which type of hair and how many packs to get, we would would not have had this problem. 2. Going out to buy more hair while she was working on me and running out again. That time she explicitly told me to get two more packs. The two ended up not being enough. That was not my fault either. 3. "Taking advantage of her kindness." When we ran out of hair the second time, she used hair that she had at her salon. She hollered at me saying she didn't charge me extra for the hair and that she told me the price on the phone (which she did not). I was sitting right next to a poster of their prices. It said twists if you brought your own hair would be $100, but if you used the hair they had you would pay $120. She charged me $120. That means she charged me extra. 4. It being my fault that the process took longer thank it should have. I admitted to being late to my appointment previously. I take full responsibility. Because of me, my hair was supposed to be done around 4 instead of 3. I am not the one who started twists and decided not to finish them so I could go do someone else's hair. People who came in after me were done before me. I am also not the one who tried to take a break to eat. Lastly, it is not my fault that I had to run to multiple beauty supplies to find more hair because she didn't specify over the phone how many packs I would need. Or the right type of hair to get. I'm very dissatisfied with the "service" here and disgusted with how I was spoken to over the phone. I won't be returning and I highly advise that anyone thinking about coming here change their mind. read more

Mediocre. I got the braids and style that I asked for and I didn't have to wait. My problem is that my braids looked days old walking out the salon. I walked in with freshly washed hair and whatever product they used has my hair covered in white flakes and for nothing because it's all frizzy anyway. Not laid at all. I like my braids neat with even lines and minimal frizz. This place didn't do it for me. I've had way better. I'll let the pic speak for itself. read more

Haby's african hair braiding shop in linden NJ! Horrible horrible experience. The owner and her daughter are the only two who should be doing hair. The lady haby leaves in charge when she is not around is rude and nasty. I asked for seven cornrows they where all uneven and then the lady that did my hair didn't even braid my hair to the end. They talk about you as if you don't know it, roll there eyes at you look you up and down and they won't speak English unless they are telling you the cost or asking you how you want your hair done. So unprofessional I would rather go to Irvington and patronize Mamie African hair braiding shop. Then they had the nerve to charge 65.00 for uneven half assed braids. Everywhere else was between $35-50. Never again! They don't even deserve one star. read more

Like one of the ladies Above said do not trust the light skin one in the front. I've been going here since 2008. Always had a good experience except for when they let the light skin one do it and another amateur which was a young little girl. That's the only two issues I've ever had. When Haby does it it's never a problem she is an excellent neat braided and she braids very fast. The only issue I had this time around was that my hair has grown so much till it's thick as ever, so they were parting roughly and the braids were super tight! I've now become tender headed due to time passing and not getting braids in so long. Otherwise I'm content with my hair this go around read more

Decided to give this place another try against my better judgement and I am now done. Don't waste your time getting your hair done here. I've had at least 3 different women in my hair and the last lady just stopped and decided to go spend 20 minutes at Dunkin donuts. Granted we all have to eat but wouldn't it have been nice to inform your client of this. Then she proceeded to eat while doing my hair as if I would want her greasy hands in my hair. All in all never again and I won't mention how slow they do hair because they spend majority of the time talking to one another versus trying to get there clients in and out. My braids are several different sizes and look old. They blamed the sloppy braiding on the amount of hair I have. I've never had braids come out so poorly. To top it off, they couldn't find my food that I left in a bag while my hair was washed. One woman walked outside to the public trash and pulled out my bag of food as if eating from a trash is a possibility.
