I went to Hachi twice in one week because it was so good! First off, Hachi is an Izakaya which is basically a Japanese bar. The ambiance is very much a bar/street food stall kind of place. Loved the hustle and bustle and style of these kinds of places. Don't expect a quiet night out! It gets decently loud, especially when business is booming. Weekends are open late until 2am! Make a reservation if you can!!! We even called on a Friday night an hour before coming and we were still able to land a reservation! It gets very busy on the weekends! Service on the Friday night was a 10/10, our server was actually being trained but he came to check on us frequently! Service on the Thursday was a little less enthused, our server only came to check on us maybe once towards the end. Now for the food and drinks! Drinks -Yuzu nade: yuzu lemonade w/ red wine. 10/10, I love anything yuzu, and it was so pretty! -Whiskey high ball. Comes in two sizes, 16 & 32oz, my friend got the double double and it was so strong! Will likely give you a nice buzz if you get the 32oz, haha! -Peach/Mango/Lemon Freezing Chu-Hais (can be non-alcoholic if you want!). Basically shochu (which is an alcohol similar to vodka or sake) with flavored carbonated water and lots of fresh fruit pieces. -(not pictured): house sake - not too strong, super simple taste Foods -Jalapeno Yellowtail Carpaccio. 10/10 with the yuzu ponzu sauce, definitely my top item! -Yakitori. We got multiple! Shishito peppers, grilled scallops, chicken thigh, pork belly, wagyu. The wagyu just meltsssss in your mouth! Worth it being $8.50 for the wagyu itself. All of the yakitori had great flavor! All differently priced, but worth trying them all! -Bluefin tuna roll. 8pcs for ~$8.50 is an absolute steal! Just melts in your mouth! -Bluefin Chutoro Sashimi (5pcs). Again, it melts in your mouth! Must try! They were out of the Otoro the day we got this but the Chutoro was still so yummy! -Ikayaki (grilled squid). Comes with a small side of spicy mago and pureed/minced ginger. Only thing is that the spicy mayo amount on the plate is so tiny so we had to get an extra side of it for $0.50. It was grilled and cooked to perfection, not too chewy or tough. -Takoyaki. Good ol fried octopus balls, can't go wrong with this guy. -Karaage (Japanese fried chicken). Comes in 2, 5, or 8 pcs. So juicy! -Citrus YTJ roll. Basically if the yellowtail carpaccio was a roll, without the yuzu sauce. This roll only has the ponzu sauce. Still so good!! My favorite roll, I highly recommend. -March 2026 special, Southwest Rainbow. Your classic rainbow roll except with spicy tuna, cucumber and cilantro in the middle. Topped with multiple sashimi fish types and cilantro. I've never had a sushi roll with cilantro but it was good! Had a little kick from the spicy tuna, I loved it! -Honey toast. Probably my least favorite thing because the inside was soft and dryyyyyy, also not a big honey fan. We had to get a side of honey for my friend so he could moisten up the middle a bit and eat it all. They're very generous with the ice cream scoops! Overall, 9/10 place for food and drinks! I'm recommending this place to all my friends and coworkers!!!!

Came around the afternoon and it wasn't busy. We were a large table and the service was good. I forgot to take pictures but the ones I did take were delicious. The Lava Salmon was soft and melting, jalapeño yellowtail was also melting and not too thin of a cut. Cocktail drinks are strong but they were also very yummy. I will definitely be back for dinners since they close so late and the vibes seems lively.

Came here for my boyfriends birthday, will now be coming back regularly!! I work late nights so i appreciate the hours here. We came at around 10pm on a Saturday and it was full! The waitlist moved quickly and we were seated within 10 minutes. Our server, Ella, was sooooo friendly and made our experience even better! All of our plates were cleared quickly and we were always checked in on us after we tried a new dish to make sure we enjoyed. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing at all. We always had what we needed before we had to flag anyone down. We ordered a variety of sushi and skewers. Standouts being the Tsukune skewers and the Tiger roll. They had a negi toro maki on the specials menu that MELTED in our mouths. Such good quality toro for such a reasonable price! The Tsukune was sooo juicy and delicious, would definitely order more of those next time. Prices are so affordable considering the size and quality! I have been to many izakayas and Hachi's fish quality was one of the best i've had for the price. Also can't forget to mention how bomb the Chu-Hai was. And you can get a refill for $4!

Update: went back the next day for lunch to try more food, because I couldn't stop thinking about it. The nigiri were perfect. Cold eggplant was great. Lunchtime wasn't busy at all which was kind of nice since we felt like we could take our time drinking and eating. Love this place! Fantastic izakaya, with great late night hours and prices that will leave your wallet feeling happy. All of the food we ordered was fantastic, especially the marinated tuna bowl on top of well seasoned sushi rice. The Saba box sushi and the lemon salmon roll would keep me coming back too, as would the kaki fry and the chicken yakitori. I love love love that they have chu-hi. Service was friendly and very quick - food came out quickly at well. This place is just like being in Japan with the types of food and drinks they serve. The only thing they're missing is a calpico chu hi option. We will definitely be back!

I was excited to try this place and was lucky that there was room at the sushi bar. Overall, I gave it an a-okay. Pros -Food was generally fresh and well-priced. -Menu was broad with lots of options. -Bathroom had a soothing ambience that was a pleasant contrast to the appropriately loud izakaya environment. Concerns -The servers were very attentive but seemed to be wanting to hurry me along despite the fact I was still waiting for my food which I explained. -Despite my regular feedback, it wasn't till about 40 minutes in when yet another server checked in during which I said I'd rather just cancel if my ume shiso yakitori wasn't coming. I was told it'd take another 5 minutes. What came out was good, but probably not worth almost an hour wait with really no recognition of the fact.

This is becoming our new favorite restaurant. Has a variety of items for everyone and some tasty drinks. The squid is probably cooked the best I've had in a very long time. Nice plus with it being open late.

They have set up shop in the former Toki space and is Location wise very convenient but not so much in terms of parking . We had a small wait before we were seated and then a little bit more before they took our order and the food arrived. For Food we had - Bluefin sampler Fried Chicken Salmon Roe G-spot Jumbo shrimp yakitori Pork Belly Yakitori Yellow tail lemon I found the food average at best - out of the two sushi plates we had the G-spot was really good but the lemon sushi was really subpar . The Yakitori shrimp was extremely bad and I would recommend not ordering it at all . we also had the whiskey High Ball which we both liked . Service was good and I found the pricing reasonable .

Without a doubt- the best new restaurant in Portland! I cannot emphasize enough how emphatically I recommend Hachi. My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch on a Saturday at 2. There was plenty of seating, and Hachi was still serving lunch. Their lunch deals are unbeatable- chicken katsu with rice, miso soup, and salad for only $10! In addition, we ordered a tuna flight, 2 negi toro rolls, a teriyaki chicken combo, and 2 sapporos. The total cost was very reasonable and we were stuffed! The Japanese music and greetings were a great touch and reminded us of our trip to Japan. An authentic an reasonably-priced izakaya experience in Portland- we'll be back next time we're in town.

This was my second time dining at Hachi, and it was just as enjoyable as my first visit. The first time, I came with a large group, and the staff had no problem accommodating us. We ordered almost everything on the menu and were impressed with every dish that came out. This time, I came in wanting to try their ramen, and it did not disappoint, it warm, flavorful, and comforting. Their baked rolls remain a personal favorite, perfectly seasoned. This place also offers a wide variety of menu options, whether you're looking for light bites or a heartier meal. The assorted sashimi is incredibly fresh, and the yakitori stands out, they are crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. They also have a solid selection of craft drinks and beers that pair well with their dishes. The vibe here is consistently lively and vibrant which perfect for a night out with friends. It can get busy, especially on weekends. I came on a Saturday night and waited about 15 minutes, which wasn't bad at all. I really like the fact that they open until 2am on weekends. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, they checked in often and kept our water filled throughout the meal. Hachi is truly one of the best authentic izakayas in Portland, offering great food, great atmosphere, and still managing to stay affordable. Highly recommend!

Came on a late Friday night hr and oh my were they busy! We waited less than 20 mins for a table to open up and I'm glad we did. Food was made to order, and came out as soon as it was finished. Everything came out really quick, and tasted amazing. A great late night eat if you're in the downtown pdx area. With cold beers/drinks and great tasting food, I'll definitely be back!

I love this place! This actually might be my favorite Japanese place in Portland. As soon as you step into Hachi, the staff are so friendly and welcoming. It gets quite busy during the evenings but you can always call ahead and ask for the wait times if you are worried. Their yakitori menu is delicious and the quality of their fish is also really good. I like that their chuhais have refill options for half the price. My personal favorites are the yellowtail jalapeno, their nigiri, their skirt steak, and anything grilled (their grilled octopus is a must try). Their skirt steak is sometimes very good and sometimes quite chewy. They are also open until late during the weekends. The vibes are very lively without being too chaotic so I think this is a good place to enjoy good food and drinks on nights that you don't want to go out to a bar.

I might have found my new favorite Japanese restaurant in Portland. Really dig the izakaya style which we don't have that many in Portland. Food is all delicious and extremely affordable! Opens late which is also a plus. Don't forget the mega chuhai or high ball!

Randomly stumbled into this resturant Sunday afternoon looking to take out but ultimately decided to dine in at the bar. Service was good and quick. I got the hamachi nigiri, salmon cut roll, wagyu beef skewer (wasn't my favorite) and pork belly skewer. Total bill came out to about $20 which i felt was good. Their menu isn't very big but I'd love to come back and try some of their other menu items.

I was looking for food nearby and came across this restaurant. The food was surprisingly delicious! We ordered the chicken katsu curry, kama-age udon (hokkai miso soup), and the kama-meshi seafood. The chicken katsu was cooked perfectly: crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside! The sauce also was the perfect texture and taste. My favorite was the kama-age udon with the hokkai miso soup. I love udon but sometimes don't like how thick it is because it fills you up faster and is harder to digest, the udon here is thinner which I fell in love with! It's soft and chewy and the perfect thickness: you dip it on the soup when you eat it. I also loved the soup, I usually have leftover soup when eat noodles, but I finished every last sip! Definitely recommend this dish if you were to only order one item! We also ordered the kama-meshi seafood. I thought this one tasted okay! The flavors of the seafood come through, but I personally like stronger and heavier flavors. It was worth a try! Parking: This restaurant is in downtown portland so it was difficult to find parking. We ended up parking at a nearby garage and paid for parking. They do have a few street parking spots near the restaurant if you want to test your luck! Seating and service: We were seated really quickly as we went on a weekday! They have several tables and a large table that can be reserved as well as bar spots. The restaurant overall looks really nice and is pretty spacious. The servers were really nice and fast to get you what you need! A side note: they have heated toilet seats in their restroom so that's always a plus!

The service was wonderful--the staff were mostly Japanese and very kind--and the portions for the dinner sets were generous for the price. However, the quality of the sushi felt like a standard neighborhood spot. The fish appeared to be pre-cut and frozen rather than freshly broken down in the kitchen. The biggest disappointment was the Hokkaido Uni. At $40 for two pieces ($20 each), I expected top-notch quality, but it sadly lacked freshness. The tempura was ordinary as well, though the complimentary amuse-bouche (tofu, broccoli, and asparagus) was surprisingly delicious. It's a decent spot if you want a high-value, casual sushi dinner, but since I prioritize the freshness of the fish, I don't think I'll be back.

This restaurant was perfect! Their decor is really cool, with plenty of seating at the sushi bar, the beverages bar, booths, and a small patio courtyard (not much of a view outside, though). Everything was cooked perfectly & absolutely delicious! The Omu-Rice dish was quite unique, with small pieces pork & veggies atop a bed of rice that's been seasoned with ketchup, and on top of it all is a perfect fluffy Japanese egg omelet - so freakin' yummy!
