I came with a large party and appreciated how accommodating the restaurant was from the start. The atmosphere: The space is charming and cozy, with two levels of seating and thoughtful decor that creates a warm, inviting vibe. We especially loved the cubby-like booths that made for a more private dining experience. For those looking for a traditional touch, there are also low tables with floor seating on cushions, offering a fun, cultural option. The food: The menu is extensive and reasonably priced. We started with the edamame and gyoza--both were generous in portion and flavorful. I ordered the Abu-Ramen, a soupless noodle dish, which came in a large portion perfect for sharing or leftovers. It was savory and satisfying. I also tried the salmon nigiri, which was fresh and well-prepared. The service: The staff was warm, attentive, and handled our large group with ease. Their hospitality made our experience even more enjoyable.

Nice and chill place to go after a concert close by. The food was good and they have a lot of small, shareable plates to share with others. The workers were also nice and food came out pretty quick.

Ordered the salmon bowl and couldn't even eat it. The salmon tasted old and overly fishy, the rice was cold and clumped together, and the veggies weren't fresh (brown and soggy). What made it worse was the manager's response instead of being helpful or trying to resolve the issue, they were childish and dismissive. No accountability, no effort to fix it. For the price I paid, the food and service were both extremely disappointing. Definitely won't be back.

10/5/2024 - their decor is next level great down to the front, which is really inviting.

I have been trying to come here for some time. I still have yet to find a decent isakaya unfortunately and this is another meh. We walked in super excited as the decor is really lovely and transports you plus I adored seeing a family whose son had a wheelchair. As a person with ADA needs, I really like seeing accommodations like that. Our server was super nice but, she'd vanish for really really long periods and we'd get stuff brought by others but everything took a really long time and we were not in a very busy restaurant. We had to ask for stuff so many times and it just took forever to just get a straw. We decided that the Yuzu Calpico Slushies we must try which were pretty tasty. We both wanted to try the more snacks though I was pretty disappointed since isakayas are known for grilled meats and veggies but they had none... It was all just kind of cheap ingredients done in not exciting ways and the prices were very high. She tried a trio of ideas and wasn't excited - one she said wasn't edible. I got the jellyfish and pot stickers. I couldn't eat the jellyfish but at least the potstickers were decent. I also got the salmon sashimi, tempura roll and the Oregon roll. They were good but for the price I was pretty shocked. Apparently I should have ordered the ramen as it was under half what mine cost and was delicious. So I might drop in again but I will just get ramen.

I absolutely love it here and have become frequenting this place since moving closer. Great prices and team here. The food never disappoints no matter how big the group size is.

This place has such quick service! From the moment you walk in and beat the drums for good luck to when you get you bill. I felt so taken care of by our waitress. The cook really does get down in the kitchen because he was able to make everything gluten free! This place has so many options that are able to made safe to eat for those with an allergy and will ensure you are set up for success so do not be afraid to speak up to your server regarding it. The place is very well lit and perfect for an evening dinner with friends or loved ones. I highly recommend coming by.

Used to be a favorite ramen spot. The interior is still unique and & drinking vibe but has been unchanged since opening. Portion ratio to prices are not reasonable. Ramen broth was not enough. Unlike other reviewers, our experience with service was unsatisfactory. Frumpy appearance, slow from beginning to end.

We came in late at night. Really enjoyed our meals and loved the vegetarian options. I tried the veggie sushi and veggie ramen while my partner tried different meat options. I will say the entire restaurant smelled like cooking oil, and we left smelling of that and my entire car too. Aside from that staff were friendly and accommodating for coming in late. We sat in an area that required you to take off your shoes in the lower tables.

It tasted immaculate definitely would try again one of the best I've had in Portland. The service was so good. It was very authentic.

Now I have came before the soba and curry good BUT I had the ramen this time around which wasn't heat, no flavor really just taste a bunch of garlic and the meat was dry, I did add tempura which was fire. Gf got the salmon collar, it was good the sauce was ponzu y and egg was great fish tender ALTHOUGH there are bones so careful. Didn't give you rice with it which was kinda weird cus it had a lot of flavor thay needed rice

There were large groups of people lining outside but we put our name down on the iPad and got seated within 10 ish mins! Scoreee. This is your sign to be patient cause this Izakaya is so worth the wait! Price point for quality was chefs kiss. You don't really get fresh sushi like this anywhere with reasonable prices! Im taking 5 PCs of otoro sashimi for $25?! Speechless! We outdid ourselves and ordered like 3 rounds of sushi for the three of us and bill came out to $200 ish with drinks! Really easy to do since they had such an extensive menu with just about everything from appetizers, tapas sashimi, hand rolls, nigiri, fried items, sushi ROLLS, ramen/noodles, and skewers! Highlights were definitely the: -otoro (5 pcs ~$25) -salmon medley (salmon belly and 3 other cuts) -scallop nigiri -karaage (5 pcs for $8.99) *pro tip to add their house negi sauce $1 or spicy mayo $0.50 -agedashi tofu (fried tofu) -wagyu beef skewer $8.50 -citrus YTG roll ($15) so refreshing with hamachi (yellowtail), tempura flakes, and a house jalapeño ponzu sauce ! (Apologies for the lack of photos lol. We got too excited since the food kept coming out soo quick we couldn't keep up lol) We also ordered the uni and volcano roll! I might try for the Alaskan roll next time considering it was hard to identify the scallops in the baked roll but still kinda tasty if you're into the warm baked rolls! I was unfortunately really wanting to taste the scallops! Overall we had a great time! Service was nice and attentive! The drinks were really affordable and generous too! My brother in law ordered a chu hi and it came in this huge mug for $14 with an option of refill for ~$7! Such a deal! Arigatou, Hachi!

The food was still very good, but the service was far below what we've come to expect. When we arrived, the hostess looked disheveled and unprofessional. Her hair was frizzy and unkempt, and her outfit looked more like pajamas than a restaurant uniform. She seemed unsure of what to do and simply pointed to a table instead of walking us over or welcoming us. After being seated, we waited nearly 20 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. During that entire time, there were four servers standing together at the computer with their backs to the dining room, talking to each other. No one was scanning the restaurant or checking on waiting guests, so we couldn't even make eye contact to get someone's attention. We eventually had to call the restaurant from our table just to get service. When someone finally came over, there wasn't even a simple apology for the wait. Once we ordered, the food came out quickly and was delicious. However, the service continued to lack attention to detail--we weren't given plates for our salads, had to ask for soy sauce, and when the bottle was empty, we had to request another one because no one noticed. Tea refills were also missed, and overall the server seemed very inexperienced. We hope this was just an off night. Better training, more professionalism, and encouraging staff to stay aware of the dining room instead of focusing only on the computer or conversations would make a huge difference. A smile, an apology, and a little attention to guests go a long way. We enjoy this restaurant and hope to see it return to the level of service we've always experienced in the past.

I ordered the red miso, and there was sugar snap peas and asparagus, which is unusual. The individual ingredients themselves were fine but as a whole, it didn't taste like miso or spicy ramen. The overload of vegetables didn't seem to belong in a typical miso ramen dish (my go-to order) and rendered the broth quite bland. My husband ordered the black shoyu ramen, which was pretty one-note. Ota Tofu is one of my favorite spots in Portland for their amazingly fresh tofu, and it's right across from this ramen shop. Sadly, the tofu they used here was fried to a crisp, lost most of its flavor and had an unpleasant, sharp texture.

The chicken katsu was cooked perfectly: crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside! The sauce also was the perfect texture and taste. My favorite was the kama-age udon with the hokkai miso soup. I love udon but sometimes don't like how thick it is because it fills you up faster and is harder to digest, the udon here is thinner which I fell in love with! It's soft and chewy and the perfect thickness: you dip it on the soup when you eat it. I also loved the soup, I usually have leftover soup when eat noodles, but I finished every last sip! Definitely recommend this dish if you were to only order one item! We also ordered the kama-meshi seafood. I thought this one tasted okay! The flavors of the seafood come through, but I personally like stronger and heavier flavors. It was worth a try! Parking: This restaurant is in downtown portland so it was difficult to find parking. We ended up parking at a nearby garage and paid for parking. They do have a few street parking spots near the restaurant if you want to test your luck! The highlight of the Omakase was an unexpected one: the "ramen." To be honest, I was a bit skeptical when I saw it on the menu, but it turned out to be an incredible dish--more akin to a refined, cold soba experience--that truly impressed both me and my companion (who is not Japanese). It was so good that it convinced us to return for a second meal. The service is nearly flawless. The staff was incredibly accommodating, even preparing a dish from the Omakase course that wasn't on the à la carte menu upon our request. If there is one area for improvement, it would be the beverage pairing for the Omakase. While the food was excellent, I felt the quality and the portion size of the pairings could have been a bit more ambitious to match the standard of the cuisine. I also missed out on their lunch-exclusive ramen due to timing, which is definitely on my list for next time. Takibi offers a level of satisfaction that goes well beyond any star rating; it's a place that genuinely cares about the guest experience. Highly recommended.

It was good - 3 courses, with simple but varied flavors. My only complaint is that the portion of fish was so small, especially compared to the amount of rice they give. I might be annoyed by the smaller portions if I were ordering a la carte. Service was decent, but not particularly amazing to go along with the higher price point here.
