We've worked with three pool contractors over the course of several years and would have saved ourselves a lot of grief if we had found Hacienda sooner. Verbal communication was great, on the order of minutes to respond to texts over the course of the entire project (i.e. several months and not just until the ink on the contract dries). Unlike most contractors, let alone pool contractors, the contract was exceptionally clear and detailed on what was being done, costs, and TBD items. No surprises or misunderstandings. On time, on budget: obviously, they have multiple projects going on simultaneously, but they are well organized and we never had an issue. On a project of any meaningful size, things happen, but Hacienda actively identifies and addresses them. For example, they noted our booster pump could be lowered to be less conspicuous and fixed it. Side note: they did a really nice job with the pool equipment. PVC was painted to match the manila folder color of the rest of the equipment and it was all well laid out. We've recommended Hacienda several of our neighbors, at least one of whom is now building a pool with them. read more

This may be a bit long, but bear with me. I currently live in the County (Alameda) and Hacienda Pools was recommended to me by longtime friend Stephen Lloyd. After a few years of going back and forth in our decision to build the pool, we finally settled on Hacienda. We thought the process would be simple enough, but with Covid and dealing with the County the approval process went much longer than anyone thought it might. Several times it seemed like we might hit an impenetrable wall with the County, only to have team Hacienda come through and put forth an effort I know others may not have even tried. Special props to Samantha (I know I owe you a margarita lunch soon!) for her tireless work with County officials. At one point, the County, which should have had every record possible on our leach field, made us hire a septic contract to lay out the lines of our field to ensure we were far enough away to add the pool. They required this (at a cost of $2,000) even though they had the records of the leach field location and we had the location of the diverter valve to the field. That was not fun. If you don't like great communication, then Hacienda Pools may not be for you, because they were very thorough in their communication in every regard. If you are in some sort of service industry, then communication is the foundation of a good business. Hacienda is the top of the pyramid. Rick, Ryan, Mike and the others were on top of every detail, informed me when they would occur and even followed up after the fact to ensure all was done according to plan. They used the top of the line equipment and I really love the pool cover. We have not heated the pool once and the cover keeps it clean as well. I don't often post reviews, but we had such a great experience with Hacienda pools that I had to post. It's so hard to find really good, honest, contractors, but we found that at Hacienda Pools. They just completed a remodel on our pool and added a hot tub. The owner Rick stays on top of the job and visits the sight often to make sure everything is on tract. Rick and Patrick spent sufficient time with us, before we signed a contract, to understand what we wanted and made some great suggestions. They worked with us to stay within our budget. Patrick took me in several site visits to help me see some of their work and help visualize different looks. It was really helpful when it came time to choose tile, coping, etc. They sent me a text at the start of the job with everyone on his teams phone numbers. If I had any questions or concerns I texted and received immediate replies from at least one of the team, and if needed they would come out that day to check on the issue. Rick, the owner always follows up with a text or call to discuss and to make sure it was handled to my satisfaction. Our project was halted due to COVID-19, but Rick had the foresight to suggest we buy our equipment and store it until the shelter in place was over. He realized there would be a shortage when all the contractors went back to work. Thankfully we took his advice which prevented any additional delays. The sub contractors he used were all great as well and his people are always on sight with the various subs. We were so impressed with everyone on the team. All of them were very professional and we felt a confidence that they were all highly skilled and knowledgeable in their areas of expertise. Our pool is beautiful and we can't wait to swim in it once the smoke from the fires clears. They are all incredibly nice people to work with making the entire experience wonderful. We did not use Hacienda for our project, or even get a bid, but I wanted to write briefly to praise Hacienda for their communications. We emailed them to ask for a bid and they emailed back a very polite email detailing what their calendar looks like for the next several months, setting expectations for how long it might take to get a formal bid and get the project started. That calendar was longer out than we'd hoped, so we didn't ask for a bid. But in similar circumstances I think a lot of contractors would have just ignored my email. Hacienda pools did a fabulous job starting with designing our new backyard, to working through issues in our specific environment to the conclusion of handing over a great looking and very functional pool. They were very good about setting expectations and delivering what was discussed in a timely manner. I do manage projects myself, and by virtue worry about details. Initially, I "worried" a lot when the building phase began. However I learned quickly that our Hacienda counterparts shared concerns and made sure risks were addressed before they became problems. Better yet, they discussed potential issues with us (the customer) and we found acceptable solutions that worked for all involved. Here is a summary of impressions by phase. Design: As a way of life, I believe making an investment in anything, you wait until you can afford the best of its class within reason. When discussing equipment and pool finish, the Hacienda crew was very forthcoming with their own experience. Not only that, they listened to what our preferences were. Jointly we compiled a list of needs and wants and arrived at a design and price we could agree to. Demo: By the afternoon of day 1, the entire backyard was flattened to the desired grade. In the morning of day 2, the pool shape was drawn on the ground per the plan. With their help, we made some adjustment to the size and location, which I am so glad we did. Digging the pool was completed by the end of the day. Every possible pipe that could have been buried in the pool area went right through the middle of it. This was discussed upfront as a possibility and priced as an option. The pipes were rerouted around the pool within days. We ended up taking this opportunity to increase the capacity of the electrical line. Building the shell: While the process took several weeks, it was done professionally and according to plan. To name names; Either Rick or Ryan made sure we were aware when work was being done, and what to expect for that particular phase. Finishing the pool: We truly appreciated the feedback Hacienda provided when selecting the finishing materials. We don't design pools everyday, so design decisions were based on our concepts and Hacienda's direction, very helpful indeed. This process took several weeks, as both the landscapers and pool builders needed to work on their respective tasks. The end result was awe-inspiring. Taking over the pool: The Hacienda crew does spend a fair amount of time getting the pool and you ready. We were pool novices and needed the coaching. Rick connected us with a reputable pool cleaning company that will perform weekly maintenance. He also stressed that Hacienda pools wants to stay in contact. Should issues arise, they want to be able to address them. As in any industry, a good reputation has to be earned, and service is as important as the initial product. Our backyard is amazing! Rick Ruzbarsky delivers a well-thought out proposal, follows through and converses every step of the way, gives and takes worthwhile suggestions, even letting us order the pool tile ourselves, has a team that works hard even on the hottest of days, and gets it right down to the smallest detail. Rick works well with other contractors coordinating work efforts and time. Rick's project manager Ryan Phillpot oversaw the demolition and rebuilding extremely well. Rick also has good referrals for people who can keep our outside looking great. Our entire backyard was demolished to add automatic covers to existing pool and remodeled spa. The pool and spa feel like you are at a resort living the dream. The project took from April 1-the beginning of August. We held a wedding open house on August 19 in our beautiful backyard which was picture perfect! We all jumped in the pool and spa after the party was over. He is worth his bid! read more

I would give Rick 10 stars if I could. We just moved into a new home June 2013 and the pool and spa had a crack in the coping at the top (we have a pebble tech pool, but they didn't install tile at the waterline in the last remodel, causing a crack over time). Every time the equipment runs, it leaks water as the spa fills up and spills into the pool. We decided to look into remodeling it. I called at LEAST 15 pool companies. I had 7-8 companies out to give me a quote. My pool guy recommended calling Rick because he has seen hundreds of pools, and he said Rick is the only guy who will do the job right. I was a little skeptical, because I use Yelp a lot to find services, and at the time I called him, he had only one review. But I gave it a try. I see now he has a few more reviews, and I'm not surprised they are all 5 stars. Hands down, Rick is the ONLY person I would recommend to remodel or install a new pool. He really knows everything there is to know about pools. We had a plan drawn up by a landscape architect, and he made recommendations for moving some things around. We were going to re-surface the pool with WetEdge, move the pool equipment, and install a BBQ island. He went through every detail with us, and gave us reasons as to why you do this vs. that. He absolutely does everything correctly and by the book. He does NOT cut any corners. If I asked a question, he answered it thoroughly and I understood exactly what he was talking about. All the other companies glazed over my questions, and I had a feeling that once we started the project, there would be issues and surprises. With Rick, he accounts for everything in his bid. There would be NO surprises, which was very important to me. I truly trusted him with this enormous project and knew we would be taken care of. He really establishes a relationship with you and he is a straight shooter. We were ready to sign the contract in October, and we removed a part of the deck that adjoining the pool to see if we could pour concrete below the coping, or if we were going to keep our deck. This was the last step before finalizing the plan. I called Rick to let him know we removed the deck, and he came over the next day. The minute he looked at the side of the pool, he tapped it with a hammer lightly and the whole thing fell apart. The rebar was exposed and completely rotten. He told me he was pretty sure the entire structure of the pool was compromised, and the rebar is probably rotted out in it's entirety. He gave me a few options, we could strip the pool and see, but if it was rotted out he would recommend filling it in, or we would need to remove the entire thing and build a brand new pool. If we remodeled it the way it was, we may spend all this $$$ and in an earthquake the pool could crack in half as there is no rebar holding it together. We thought about our decision for a couple of months. We don't have the funds right now to build a completely new pool, so we decided to leave it as is for now, and enjoy next summer with it, with the leak. We will revisit the project again at the end of next summer. We may end up filling it in, but in the end, we know whatever we do, we will do it correctly because of Rick's guidance and knowledge. Hacienda pools is a fantastic pool company. My pool was a mess. It leaked, it was ugly and it had massive cracking all around. Rick, one of the owners, came out, assessed the damage and honestly told me what it was going to take to fix the pool up. He told me, Hacienda Pools typically does not do pool remodels because they like to focus on new pool installations, but he and his team were willing to take on this remodel challenge and I really appreciated it. The remodel went smooth and quick. Rick had his teams out working rain or shine every day, and if there was ever a day when workers were not going to be out there, Rick called me to explain why. This was great because, unlike most contractors we have hired, Rick didn't get me in trouble with my wife.
