If I could give this hospital no stars, I would. The staff was uninformative, cold, judgmental, and rude. The nurse would ask my family questions and when they'd answer, she would ignore the responses and move on. After sitting in the waiting room while my brother screamed out in pain they still did nothing. It was only when he passed out from the intensity of pain and I had to catch him, that they came and did anything. Even then they were not very helpful. I would never recommend this hospital to anyone I know. Definitely do not go here if you want to see results or have a somewhat enjoyable visit. read more

Incompetent Hospital and Staff, DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL, I went there in August of 2017 just to get an ultrasound done on my leg to make sure there wasn't a blood clot, my doctor told me to go , first they did blood work for no reason, then the ultrasound which showed no blood clots, I told them I was seeing my Orthopedic doctor the next day, they told me I could leave, then the doctor came back in and said they saw something from the ultrasound and I needed to get a cat scan done, after that they said another doctor looked at it and I needed surgery because there was bleeding in my leg, they put in an Iv did more blood work and then the doctor came back in and said another doctor looked at the cat scan and said I didn't need surgery, then they released me from the hospital, I barely got out of the parking lot and the hospital called me and said I needed to come back and have emergency surgery, I came back and they put another iv in me took me to the operating room, were the person transporting me stepped on my iv line and pulled it out of my arm, then he forgot his key to get in the operating room, so I was sitting in the hall blood dripping all over the floor, finally in the room the nurses are trying to figure out why I had 2 admissions to the hospital, the incompetent surgeon came in drew a line on my leg were he was cutting me open, I was put under anesthesia, when I woke up in the recovery room, I was told they didn't do anything, he said I was put under to do another ultrasound (I went under anesthesia for an ultrasound sounds like a lawsuit to me ) I was under for 20 minutes, I don't know why because I was kind of out of it from the anesthesia but I was admitted to the hospital, the next morning some other incompetent doctor comes in and says I need an mri done because I could have a pulled muscle or cancer by this time I'm in a daze, I have no idea what's going on I only knew I wanted out of this hospital.When all was said and done I had a torn muscle which I told them I had in the first place. Then they had the nerve to send me 2 Bills from the emergency room because they were incompetent 2 bills from emergency room doctors, bills for ultrasound, cat scan mri, 2 observation doctors ( what were they observing there incompetence) other doctors never even seen , anesthetic (for putting me under for 20 minutes for no reason), an incompetent surgeon (who did nothing) my insurance already paided out thousands of dollars to them, now there sending collection agency's after me. Went there tonight to give this place another chance since Atlantic health owns them now & its close to my mother even I use Hunterdon drs & hospitals usually. They treated me awful. I came in the ER for pain in my rib & abdomen I never met the ER doctor instead I got his PA. I have great insurance but they assumed I had crappy insurance & judged me based on my appearance. I have piercings, colored hair and tattoos. They acted like it wasn't serious & like I was there for pain meds so I told one of thousand people (idk who she was) that I didn't want any meds just to figure out why I was having this issue. The PA Heather had a HUGE attitude never even introduced herself as the PA I had to ask the nurse who the hell she was & when I gave her paperwork from my primary dr at Hunterdon she said, " what is this from a clinic"? I said no its from hunterdon medical center you know hunterdon county? They didn't even ask me if I was in pain or if I needed motrin. They dismissed me & my symptoms. They pushed me out after the hour wait in the waiting room & the four hours I sat there in the room. They didn't think to even give me a CT scan. NEVER AGAIN! I NEVER GO TO HOSPITALS IN GENERAL but if I ever have to again it won't be here! read more

So I am writing this as we are leaving the ER. if I could give less than 1 star I would, 1 star is too good for them. My son was brought into the emergency room by ambulance for a head injury. The ER doctor showed up when he was first brought in. He ordered several tests and left, never to show up again to discuss what was going on with my son or discuss his results. He was handed his discharge paperwork by a nurse. The nurse asked my son if he could walk and my son said he didn't know because he hadn't stood up since he was brought there. The nurse said ok and left never telling him if he was able to leave or not. After my son changed back into his clothes he had to go looking for the nurse to ask if he was able to leave. My son says he didn't feel like they took his injury seriously and neither do I. There was another gentleman who brought in his son, he was the same age as my son mine and he was treated better. I'm wondering is it because he looked different than my son. Was my son not up to their standards? So here we are leaving and don't know exactly what happened to him, if he has a concussion, needs any type of care at home.This type of treatment is completely uncalled for. What gives them the right to treat a young adult in this manor? Common courtesy and some decency goes a long way. Thank you for treating my son so graciously and with compassion. No one deserves to be treated this way! Everyone should receive equal treatment! I understand Dr's and nurses are working overtime during these trying times but come on all this could have been avoided with some common decency. If you, The Dr and nurse on duty today had a bad day, Im sorry you had a bad day but my son also had a bad day. How would you like your family member treated the way you treated my son? Always treat patients like you would want your family treated. I know it is the Dr and nurse I have an issue with but I will never use that hospital or recommend it to anyone EVER. Also I know we can get all the information we need from the My Chart but it should have come from the ER Dr and/or nurse. I also do not want some generic apology. Thank you. read more

Last fall, my mom went to the emergency department by ambulance after a rough three weeks at home with diarreah and fatigue. She didn't feel well, but kind of glossed over her list of symptoms when she arrived. Fortunately, the physician's assistant we saw first decided to look beyond the surface and quickly diagnosed her with multiple blood clots in both lungs. That could have ended very badly, but thankfully did not. My mom remained at HMC for four days and was cared for with skill and compassion, was well fed and had clean surroundings. Sorry to read that others didn't have the same experience, but I make a point of looking for what's right as well as for what's wrong. ANY hospital can have issues, unfortunately, but I found plenty of things being done right at HMC. Prior to being discharged, my mom's case manager guided us through finding a short term rehab facility for her to go to gain some strength back. Her help was invaluable, since there were many details to consider and remember. The bottom line is this: HMC has been my family's hospital since it opened. I gave birth to my kids there, have raced there for more than a few serious emergencies, and have had elderly relatives pass there with peace and dignity. I will continue to go to HMC and I'm thankful everyday that this hospital is here and is connected to other larger hospitals in its system if there is a need for more elaborate care. Not sure why some of the reviews on here are so dismal, but that has not been my family's experience with this hospital at all. I went to this hospital 1 month ago, My had severe stomach cramps with sharp shooting pain, with dehydration, I never received any fluids and the doctor gave me a prescription for pain and to relieve my cramping and pain the drug was over $2000.00, I looked at my pharmacist and he said yes its that much, Really i had to live with it I guess cause there is no way a person can afford that. And of course it was not covered under my insurance. I still have other symptoms connected to that, and still running tests, nothing has been found yet but this is not the hospital to go to if your in pain or dehydrated, was never offered anything to stop the pain. or even hydration or IV. To be given a clean bill of health yet still experiencing pain is beyond me...places like this need to be bulldozed, or the staff and doctor FIRED!!! And no one from patient services ever contacted me. When I am diagnosed with what I have in the future I will sue this hospital if its connected to present symptoms... read more

Since I have to choose 1 star. I can't choose lower unfortunately. My father (85 with a form of dimentia) was brought there by ambulance. He was diagnosed with an infection. Cultures are not back yet (5 days now). The case manager, Diane, who with spoke with repeatedly, took it upon herself to recommend him for discharge to a rehab center without notifying our family. I guess they don't adhere to their own patient rights policy of "sufficient discharge planning" in order for a care plan to be put in place. Which there was one as of Friday afternoon. An MRI and hospice care evaluation was to be done on Monday and in the meantime my family was to research and put together a list of rehab facilities we'd like him to be in if the evaluation of hospice found him not meeting the criteria. And we still had the option of home care. Now all of the sudden the doctor and medical director in charge on Saturday stated that "he can't be in this hospital anymore." News to us. They pushed the hospice evaluation (now to be done by an on staff nurse instead of by the facility and primary care physician) up 2 days and took it upon themselves to call a rehab center for a bed before even receiving our list of places. Obviously this is an issue and the lack of communication between shifts and doctors, case managers and others is NON EXISTENT! Now they are going to have a big issue for not following procedure and patient's rights. We were very hesitant to bring him the the Hackettstown ER in the first place due to past bad experiences and I urge everyone to STAY CLEAR of this place whenever possible. The nurses and aides are compassionate and caring but the administration and doctors are only concerned about getting patients out of there as quickly as possible; even if other professionals say otherwise and if it means breaking the law! read more

The er is awful. Nurses are rude and have poor bedside manner. I was there with my husband and got called a "wifey" and "mommy" simply because I had the answers to their questions and not him. Not to the mention the rude and sarcastic comments she made to my husband when she weighed him. Rude staff no wonder this hospital is never busy. We went in as he burned his finger and every nurse and doctor thought he was crazy he had his finger on egg whites which is not an abnormal solution for burns. I will never come back here again. Not only do they have poor bedside manner and rude they lack medical knowledge as well. If I could give them negative stars I would. read more

Run and be very afraid! I was in the ER for hours while a nurse saw me once and click her gum constantly. Was having seizure like symptoms and was told I would have to wait close to two days for a MRI. The overseeing ER doctor was cold and treated everyone like a number. My husband made me leave and we went to another ER where they did an emergency MRI and I have a brain tumor. If you want true quality care, please choose another ER because you will not get it here. Nurses and residents are too busy having fun and the overseeing doctor is ruthless. read more

My wife and I brought my 11 month old into the ER because he had a fever of 103 and was having spasms on and off. We just felt more comfortable making sure this wasn't more than just a fever. Most of the staff that night happened to be pretty friendly except the head doctor Kasper who asked us if he is up to date on his vaccines and we explained that we chose to opt out for a few months which is our own personal preference and she has no right to say shit about it, It is not her child. that was it her whole attitude changed. She put on this pretty good 2 minute dramatic eye rolling and sarcastic act then got very pushy while checking our kid and walked out to never be seen again. We basically sat there for 4 hours so the motrin can kick the fever which we were doing at home anyway. Ive been here a few times this place needs to be shutdown. The owner can also stop the whole copy and paste the sympathetic response shit too! read more

I arrived at the ER at 3:30 or so in the morning. There was no wait given the time, and I was sobbing in pain and exhausted. The triage nurse was very rude, asking me harshly "why are you crying!". I told her I was in pain and I was tired, I was sorry but I couldn't help it. She seemed annoyed and sent me into a room to wait. I saw the Doctor for maybe 5 minutes tops, and was billed an outrageously. (no insurance) I wouldn't have minded the money if I had been treated with a little more sympathy and care. Would not recomend this hospital to anyone! I had family employed by the hospital for decades and always went there for my medical needs. ( before things changed) Recently a family member was hospitalized and the care was terrible. The hospitalist (Dr. Melikian?) came to see my family member and her phone rang immediately. She left the room only to return five hours later and admit she forgot about her. Life saving medications were left non refrigerated after being told they must be refrigerated. After the hospitalist returned we began a medical history and were immediately confronted with doubt and disbelief about prior conditions ( location of blood clots). Thankfully my family was transferred to Hackensack where the treatment is top notch. The doctors, nurses, and aides always take the time to discuss treatment and answer every question. Unless you are forced to rely on Hackettstown hospital I strongly urge you to look elsewhere for treatment. read more
