My experience with this company, however, was so horrible that I decided that I would write a review. I will do my best to condense my experience. We hired Gari after a brief interview. We gave him the parameters of our project (we were on a tight timeline, a tight budget, etc. - all the usual annoying things when dealing with a remodel). He seemed to understand our situation and it felt like we had found the right interior designer for our new house. We had an initial working meeting which was so-so. Coming from a design background, I had started to form doubts at this stage. It seemed like he was the kind of person who nodded when you said something, but has the attitude that he knows best. I suggested some ideas that were somewhat non-traditional and they were met with some semi-polite eye-rolling. Not a great reaction, but one that I could live with considering our need for speed on the project. We exchanged a few emails about the first bathroom, and then we sent him some questions about shower enclosures. Next thing we knew he sent us an email stating that he thought that we weren't the right type of clients for him and he would send us our deposit back. Whoa. Apparently shower enclosures were so low rent that he didn't want to work with us. We later learned that we probably shouldn't put shower enclosures in our nice bathrooms, but at the time we didn't know any better, so we asked about them. Isn't it part of the designer's job to help you steer through these kinds of issues? We spoke with him and tried to "patch up" the relationship. If we had more time, we would have found another designer, but we didn't, so we thought it would be better to make do. He agreed to keep us as a client. Gee, thanks. But after a number of additional unanswered emails and some really bad and contradictory recommendations from him, we through in the towel. For example, we said that we'd like to choose environmentally friendly products when possible and affordable. The toilets he recommended to us were neither low volume flush, nor did they have the capability of a half-flush. This indicated that he simply didn't listen to our request since those parameters are the first ones you'd satisfy when looking for green options. We also learned that he just didn't have the time to do our job. He was busy with other projects and was simply over-extended and over-booked. And we were the ones that suffered. Lastly, coming from a design background, I find it objectionable that someone would thumb there nose up at people looking to find cheaper solutions. Many of the world's greatest design achievements have been spurred on by one difficult parameter or another, with that parameter often being cost. We've since had the good fortune of working with several other great designers. Phew. It also gave us further perspective on just how bad our experience with Gari really was. In summary, I can't stress enough how much I would recommend against using Jugendstil Designs. Go somewhere else, where you and your project will be treated professionally.

Surrina was amazing. After talking with us for a bit she gave us several ideas for color, drapes, blinds, and now we are moving on to furniture. We have been thrilled with the results. Surrina is a consummate professional and feels like the girlfriend you have known for years. If you are on a budget, she can stick to it. For me, there are pieces I know I want to keep and am willing to spend money on but for other more "trendy" items I don't want to spend a lot. Surrina finds those items for much less so now when I am ready to switch them out - no guilt. Surrina works at your pace. I travel for work. Some months I am gone 5 days, other months I am gone 20 days. When I am in town, she will go, go, go with me. When I am on the road, she waits patiently for me to have time to continue the work. I am not sure I could work with another designer. Kirsten listens to me, and I always feel that the result will reflect my preferences and style, and fit in my budget. She always asks me how I use the space we are redesigning, so that the solution she creates has needed storage or seating and will work as a functional part of my home. I love her taste, and how she helped my home look both personal, polished and stylish. The other thing I love about the way she works is the "green" element: Kirsten possesses a wealth of knowledge about sustainable and healthy options. She informs me about the environmental issues with a particular material, and lets me know what my greener choices would be -- and then she uses her resources to help me find the materials locally. I like knowing that she is not only helping me create a more beautiful home, but also helping me lighten my footprint on the earth. She assisted us with choosing fabulous materials for the bathrooms and kitchen. One the second project, she helped us with the design of the conversion of our garage into a studio with bathroom and kitchenette area. In both projects, she listened to our goals, and helped us to clarify and achieve them. She understood that we didn't have a large budget to work with and helped us figure out cost effective options. She is extremely knowledgeable about green home products which we really appreciated, and she always had great ideas on where to get products. NEVER shop at Flegels!…read more In 2017 for our outdoor patio, we purchased Kingsley Bate painted teak patio table and chairs from Flegels. We kept the table covered when it wasn't in use. In 2019, the paint started to blister. In my attempt to get this rectified, KB told me that Flegels had to file a report on my behalf. KB also informed me that they only recommend the painted teak for covered patios. Flegels refused to do anything. The owner's son, Brian, was rude and refused to listen to these facts: 1. When we bought the expensive teak furniture, the Flegel's sales person did not tell us to expect the paint would blister. 2. The 2017 catalog does not mention that painted teak tables were only to be used under covered patios. The owner's son said he had more valued customers who spend much more money than we did, and he didn't want my business. His statement dumbfounded me. We spent over $5000 on this patio furniture. But even if we had only spent $500, I would have expected respectful and responsive customer service.
