First time visitor, and I was thoroughly impressed. I have been eyeing this place for years, ever since I learned that they get their lamb from the same Carroll Gardens butcher where I shop. I finally stopped in for a quick bite after a nighttime workout, so I was ravenous. The "light lamb" entree on a bed of hummus was perfect: deliciously fresh in every way, the lamb tender and well-trimmed, and the spice blend amazing but not overpowering. The accompanying flatbread is superlative. I'm excited to return again soon. read more

I don't know how to write this review because I did not get what I went there for, which was lamb haniz. My wife wanted Yemeni food so normally we would eat at Yemen cafe. However, they were over crowded as usual, so we decided to go down the ladder and into yemen Hadramout Restaurant. We get there and they were out of lamb haniz, so I order lamb chop and rice and ofcourse seltah because my wife is a vegetarian and aseed. And honestly as A yemeni I must say the lamb chop was not that great. Assed is aseed. Seltah was not boiling hot it was only worm. Would I go there again maybe just to try there Haniz otherwise I would go to Yemen Cafe and pay the same price for food I would enjoy. read more

Yemeni. Who knew? I will go back for that bread alone! The food is tasty and plentiful. Have lamb! The place is immaculate. The owner is so hospitable and accomodating. I just wish the window were curtained- Once the sun went down, I felt like I was in a goldfish bowl. This place deserves to succeed. NO ICE, BTW. The owner wants to provide an authentic experience. Amazing Yemeni food in Brooklyn at all hours. They say you can follow the cabbies and theyll lead you to treasures, this is certainly one of them. I love spots like this, trust me just visit and youll know what im saying. Some standouts: The tea is sublime, its perfectly minty and subtle. Really great compliment to the meal. The bread, always baked fresh, might be one of the best fluffy style pita breads ive ever had. There are few places in the city that will produce something of this quality at 2:30AM on a Tuesday (let alone at all) Last week I went and accidentally ordered the lamb dish. Delicious mistake. This place is wonderful (inexpensive; large portions; delicious), and the people who work there are really kind and friendly. I would like to proceed methodically through the entire menu, but the fasoulia/fasoolia is just great (smoky bean-and-onion-and-tomato appetizer; comes with an enormous circle of soft bread). I went here only once and took out a Falafel sandwich on the Hadramout bread. It was utterly delicious, and though it was only $6, it was big enough for me (smallish woman) to eat the two halves on different days. The second half heated in the microwave was even more awesome! The service was slow, but very nice and I was offered tea for the wait. Atmosphere is funky basement but also very comfortable. read more

I'd been looking to try one of the two or three Yemeni restaurants around here, and this one happened to be open. The ambiance, as someone mentioned, is authentically (if a little shabbily) exotic, with Al Jazeera in Arabic on the TV and a big urn of very good, very sweet clove tea. I ordered the mendi (lamb cooked in a hole in the ground), which I'd heard is something of a national dish in Yemen and Saudi Arabia. It was very fatty and a little cold, but maybe it was just an off night. The "Hadramout dressing" on the salad had a sort of unspecifiable but nice flavor to it, and the lamb soup had just enough spice to keep it from being a simple and boring broth. We discovered this Middle Eastern restaurant on Atlantic Ave during the Atlantic Antic fair. A few steps down from the street, the restaurant is a casual spot with unusual traditional dishes. We had a lamb rib dish with a side of vegetables in a tangy sauce. The meal was fall off the bone tender. The lunch started with a spicy lamb soup and a huge piece of flat bread. Portions are generous and delicious. The staff was kind and attentive. Prices are reasonable. A real find! read more

@Sachin P: My experience was similar to yours. I wandered in on a quiet night and the special vibe & hospitality was really great. Originally intended to just take my falafel to go, but was given a cup of that great tea (as other reviewers have mentioned) and wound up sitting down for a bit. Also agree with those reviewers mentioning the delicious bread. The falafel was good, the warm pita was outstanding & kind of made the sandwich. Yes, I will try the other dishes next time--which will be very soon! The place is open 24 hours. I went there around midnight & got to chill out. Coming here today was a major mistake. The yelp reviews all seemed favorable, so I came here with a friend. I ordered falafel and a water and she ordered shawarma and a water. After about 40 minutes, a waiter brings her food and tells me that my falafel will take a bit more time. I figured that meant it would be out within 10 minutes, but I was wrong. So now it has been an hour, we still have no water and no one has checked in on my table. A waiter silently brings over two cups of tea (which btw were never requested). In an attempt to be polite, I wait. Nothing. It has been an hour and a half since I ordered. So I flag down a waiter and to make sure there is no confusion, I address him in Arabic (which I can speak moderately) and politely ask him where the falafel is. He says nothing and walks away to the back. A moment later, a child, no older than 12, comes over. He asks me what I was asking the waiter. I tell him that I was asking where my falafel is. The kid says he will check. After going in back and returning, he tells me that "the falafel needs more time to be processed." So I request a menu and ask if I can order the fried cauliflower instead. He tells me that they are out of cauliflower -on a non-busy Thursday evening-. It was around 6. Ok, I order the shakshouka instead. Some time later the dish arrives. The food tasted fine. After eating, I have trouble finding a staff member that I can ask for the check. Eventually my child-waiter appears so I ask him. The check was roughly 20. Given the circumstances, they probably shouldn't have charged me for my food, but I paid for it all anyway. It was about 20$. While dealing with the check, 2 hours, yes, two hours after ordering them, our glasses of water show up. My child waiter returns with all my change in nickels as if they have no quarters. I give them the benefit of the doubt because maybe the child doesn't know about giving change. After tipping, my friend and I left. It was a terrible experience. I haven't had anything like that happen to me in New York before. Bear in mind, my friend and I were dressed normally and we were very polite throughout the whole ordeal. I don't know if the restaurant just suffers from horrendous management or if there was another major factor in why the experience was terrible. I'm writing this review not out of malice, but rather to persuade anyone who reads it to not go to this restaurant so that they do not end up in a similar situation. What a pleasant surprise. We were at the Atlantic Antic and decided we wanted to eat Middle Eastern cuisine. The waiter service was excellent. In addition to delicious falafel and chicken and lamb on hadramout bread we were given as an extra a delicious salad with feta and lamb broth soup. The food was delicious and the price of the meal extremely reasonable. A must return trip. read more

Ordered delivery. The pita that came was store-bought and came in the same packaging you get right off the shelf at Gristedes. The lamb chop was deep-fried and mostly fat. The salad was mostly onions (some feta, cucumbers and tomatoes throughout, but largely onions), the falafel was hard (overcooked perhaps) and the schwarma was a sloppy mess.
