We've been going to Yemen cafe for years and figured hey let's give Hadramout a chance. Big mistake. Huge. Service is terrible. My husband became very ill because he's allergic to dairy and they put mayonnaise in the baba ganoush (not indicated on the menu). The fasoulia was dry, the bread was burnt. The service was just awful. They plopped down two teas on the table and tried to charge us $3/each for it at the end. We don't do dairy and they both had milk. Overall a terrible experience. Do yourself a favor and go to Yemen Cafe. There is a reason it's always packed. read more

Ordered pick-up from Hadramout for lunch. I got a falafel platter which was pretty good. It came with a side of hummus, baba-ganoush and green sauce. The falafels came on a bed of salad which was not so great, as it only consisted of lettuce and onions. However, the reason why I'm giving such a low rating is because when I went in to the restaurant, I could see that the people working in the kitchen were not wearing masks. It made me feel so uncomfortable, watching them cook and work with my food, breathing into it. I even confronted the worker and all he said was, "we do wear masks", as he pulled up the mask to cover his nose. He also goes to say that inspectors come every morning and they pass the inspection. Sounds like a lame excuse who got caught in the act. Definitely be cautious about ordering from here during COVID. read more

Come here for an "I'm not in Brooklyn" experience. After a glowing recommendation from a friend, about 3am we headed here after finishing at a bar down the street. Hadramout is a Yemeni restaurant, in a basement that has beautiful murals with camels, countryside and sheep. The people in the restaurant were eating huge platters of food and everyone was speaking Arabic and very friendly to each other. Seems very authentic. Oh, and yes they had Al Jazzera on tv which I found interesting, esp when the cook came out of the kitchen, yelled something at the tv and then went back into the kitchen. So my friend comes here religiously and always orders the chicken shawarma but they ran out. I don't really blame them it was 3 am. So a bunch of us ordered the lamb shawrarma and split a platter of hummus and babaganoush which came with a few pieces of falafel and lettuce. None us ordered platters but the chicken and fish dishes other patrons ordered looked delicious. The lamb shawrama was very thick-not a gyro like consistency, think more like pieces of flank steak beef. It came in a wrap form, 2 huge wraps (not in a pita). The bread was thin and crispy. Very delicious. The babaganoush is the best I've ever had in my life and the falafel was great too but a little too deep fried for my taste. The dips also came with massive pieces of bread which was delicious. I must stress that you MUST drink the tea here. I don't know what's in it but it's addicting and I would go back just for it and I don't live remotely close to this establishment. Next time I come, I will be more adventurously and order one of their yummy looking meat-foul platters with fava beans. read more

look. I am extremely patient and considerate of the fact times are tough and capacity is limited. Time after time coming to this establishment (calling it a restaurant doesn't do anyone justice) it takes minimum 40 minutes to get the attention of the staff to get seated and another 10 for them to clean it.90% of the time you must attend to your own needs (not suppose too) when it comes to drinks and ordering food. You become incredibly impatient you go inside to the fridge grab your drinks and order your food as if you were taking it to go. The staff is 10000% unapologetic and could care less. The food. The food is delicious. This is 95% the reason why we accept the unfortunate service. Worth it? No. Go next door to Yemen Cafe! read more

We were thrilled to find this place open late for dinner when pretty much everything else in the area shuts down by 10p. Loved the lavash bread and soup/salad. If you want to travel without leaving Brooklyn, this is the place to be. I was down the street at a Birthday party at the Last Exit two drinks when myself and my two best friends who hadn't eaten all day decided to get some pizza. We were on our way down to Court street when we just walked by this place and caught the sign on the street. It was beckoning to us. We had to go in. As soon as I walked down the steps, I felt like I was in Yemen. It was a chill and relaxing place, and the waitstaff was very hospitable. You could see the waitstaff come in and out of the kitchen with their trademark Hadramout bread. There was a diverse group of people there, all breaking bread together. But myself and my two girlfriends were noticeably the only gals in there. The food was excellent. The Hadramout bread was delicious. We got the hummus, which was very smooth and creamy. I don't recall the names of the other dishes, but one was a fava bean dish which was excellent. We also got a garlic-y stew with meats and veggies, which was also excellent. It came out in an earthen ware and was steaming. My only complaint is that the dip and stew were a too liquid-y to be eaten with a spoon, which kind of took away from the whole eating with your hands experience. I'm not a meat-eater, but all of the people were eating a lamb and rice dish and the salad. It looked very good and I could give up vegetarianism for a day to try it. I don't ever have to leave the city to be transported to another country. Only in Brooklyn! Not to be cliched, again, but like Nate S. said, this really is a hidden gem. read more

We ordered Kepsa ( Rice and lamb) first two orders were okey. We ordered 3rd order when the deserter did strike some hungry Hippos. Chef simply took white-rice and mixed with curry and served it as Kepsa. They should have told us that they ran out of Kepsa. Instead, they became little greedy and did us dirty. We complained to the owner who speaks little English but fully proficient money making language. He acknowledged the fact and tried to reprimand the Chef atrocity. However no discount on the 3rd order which we simply trashed in the presence of owner. We asked the owner for discount since we did not eat the 3rd order. It did not work. read more

This is now our backup Yemeni restaurant when Yemen Cafe is rammo. We had their grilled chicken which wAs good but not great. Note that the rice is not as flavorful as I expected. The lamb was exceptional. And if thats all we ate, this would be a 5 star review. However the baklava was quite bad - we couldnt have more than a bit each of it. They were nice about it and did not charge us for it. Finally, they seemed a bit stretched service wise. For large parts of our time there there was 1 server for the whole restaurant. She finally got some help, but we waited a while for water and had to remind her twice. read more

Tandoori rashoosh flatbread, it was just amazing! It was warm, soft, and crunchy, literally love at first bite! Flatbread with Baba Ghanoush was everything I wanted and need. Both of the lamb dishes were so tender and juicy. Chicken fahm was also juicy, and I enjoyed it, but I do wish it was more flavorful, as the lambs and lamb broth soup (family loved the soup). Overall, the food and the atmosphere was good. I think the service could have been better, though. But, I think around the time (8:30 PM) we visited, it was super packed, so I understand that they were busy. The majority of the people were sitting in the outdoor area, and we sat indoor, so I think most of the service was given to the outdoor customers. But still, the waitress helped us a lot, and I enjoyed the experience there. I want to go back there again soon and try different dishes. read more

Very authentic and delicious Yemini food. Great portions, decent sizes and wonderful service. I came here for the first time late after work because it's 24/7 and once of the only places in the area open after 10/11. I ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich, this is half of the sandwich because the first half was so good, I couldn't stop eating it! Also ordered a very fresh glass of lemonade and I'm glad I did, not too sweet or sour & it had an interesting light, frothy, texture. This place has been on the to-do list for sometime. Frequently, I jog by this place and it always stirs up curiosity. What is Yemeni cuisine? What is it like? Finally, I was able to rope in a friend who speaks Arabic to bring me here. We came here for lunch. It was 1pm when we arrived and we were seated immediately. This place is in the basement and also it is no frills. You won't be impressing any date here. You are here explicitly for the Yemeni experience. Yemeni cuisine is heavy on lamb, so this was going to be an issue. In any case, we were able to find something for me to eat. We ordered 3 entrees. One was a minced meat and vegetable dish called Selta, one order of lamb kebab (Heneeth) and one order of grilled trout. All entrees come with salad, soup, Hadramout bread and the entree. A pretty good deal! I didn't try the meat dishes but the grilled trout was excellent. It was extremely fresh, tender, and moist. Lightly seasoned and cooked to perfection. It went great with the enormous-sized Hadramout bread! The portions are generous and we were all stuffed by the end of the meal. The prices here are very good and you get your money's worth. **Note: My friend who is Lebanese and my Arabic guide felt uncomfortable in the restaurant. He stated that people were staring at me because I was showing my bare arms. Luckily, my back was to all the other patrons. The restaurant caters mostly to Yemeni people, so if you're a Westerner, be prepared for staring. But think of it this way, you are being immersed in Yemeni authenticity! A great find that's open late. Like, really late. Stumbled in at 4am and was happily greeted by an older gentleman working there. There were some other guys at a table, but I think they either worked there or were friends of the staff. Street meat this place is not. They serve quality food at reasonable prices. The picture menu in the back doesn't list prices, but I think the lamb dish we had was $18 and the chicken one was $12. Both served with rice, and a starter course of salad and soup. It was all very delicious, but a ton of food. It also came with their version of naan, which was the size of a pizza. We definitely left with doggy bags. I lived in the Middle East for a few years and have been eating tons of real Yemeni food with my Yemeni friends. So, said Yemeni friends all have the consensus that Yemen Cafe is the best and most authentic in NYC. Maybe if you are Yemeni? I've tried Yemen Cafe many times now and I just got fed up with the rude service and high prices. Time for a change. I was very pleasantly surprised with Hadramout Restaurant. Honestly, the food tasted the same as Yemen Cafe but the atmosphere and Yemeni staff were so kind and it was a perfect lunch experience. So far in the US I haven't found Yemeni food tasting like in the Middle East except for in Detroit which has the largest Yemeni community. Thus Hadramout Restaurant was pretty good and I think a much better experience than Yemen Cafe. We had mandi lamb and chicken ogda, some typical and popular Yemeni dishes. The maraq soup was good and came at the beginning of the meal as it should. I also particularly liked the salad at this restaurant and it had a really simple and delicious tomato sauce on top. The sahawiq (Yemeni salsa) was sufficiently spicy. The khobz bread was freshly baked and soft and fluffy. Still haven't found my favorite Yemeni pastry bread, called malawah, outside of the Middle East. I'll keep searching! Really what made this such a nice experience was the really kind staff. It was so nice to finally see the famous Yemeni hospitality. We were having trouble cutting the lamb so our kind waiter helped us cut it. This leads me to probably the best part of the meal which was the Yemeni dessert, masoob. If you haven't tried masoob, you definitely should. It's something to be split with the group since one or two spoon fulls is plenty and really heavy. There are a few types but pretty much it is bread, dates, banana, cheese, cream, and Yemeni honey. Wow it's amazing. So when we were ordering this, the Yemeni guy asked us if we really wanted it hesitantly, and we said "oh yeah!!" as we've had it so many times in Qatar and love it. He said okay and then I saw him run out the door and come back a few minutes later with a container of honey! He was so sweet and went and got the honey for us! Post-climbing we come here a lot and usually come in a group of 4-5. This past week, we came as a group of six, got a booth, and settled in for some good eats. We ordered a smattering of dishes like always and a babaganoush and hummus platter for some snacking. These appetizers actually come with ginormous flatbreads which are delicious, char-grilled, and hot! For normal dishes, we ordered the Lamb Ghallaba and the Chicken Muhlikia. The Lamb Ghallaba was delicious as always, cut into nice little cubes and served with rice and salad. The spices were spot on, not too hot, not too sweet. The Chicken Muhlikia was an interesting but something that I probably won't order again. I wanted to give it a try as I've tried a lot of other menu items with good success but the sauce reminded me of spinach and with a distinct okra slimey-ness to it. While it tasted pretty neutral, I wasn't a super big fan. We also got two orders of salad and the snacking platters of babaganoush and hummus which were beautifully fresh and wonderful with the flatbreads to dip. So why 4/5 stars? The majority of the menu is delicious but some items are admittedly more authentic and not for the faint of heart. That being said, the restaurant itself is clean, the service is alright, and the food is hearty and warm. read more

I genuinely can't remember when I've had service THIS TERRIBLE. Ordered a lamb shawarma at the physical location. It took 40 minutes. I had to constantly remind them that I ordered yet people that cam after me were being served within 20 minutes. After I told them to just make it takeout my meal magically was ready. I check my sandwich and it's luke warm at best! Obviously they made it long ago but didn't seem me important enough to serve despite their being only one person at the restaurant... that ordered after me. Incredibly delicious food, perhaps the best Middle Eastern I've had outside of Zahav in Philadelphia. Be sure to get the eponymous hadramout (with falafel), which is the largest pita-like bread you've ever seen. Everything we had was super fresh and flavorful, served by a very friendly staff. This was my very first experience having Yemeni cuisine and it was amazing! The restaurant itself is small with lots of tables and unusually large booth seating for large families. The hospitality was very welcoming. I was very impressed by the food, we were served lamb soup first. It just looked like a plain broth, but it was packed with so much flavor. I'm sure a pint of that soup can cure cold. I was bamboozled with the size of the fresh flat bread that came with the hummus! it's like the size of a regular pie, just rip and dip. I can eat that as a meal by itself. The entrees were delicious in itself. It all taste a bit familiar but yet different. My husband has ordered from here several times, and it has always been surprisingly delicious. We have enjoyed their lamb dish, the baba ghanoush, bread, and most recently a kidney bean dish (fassoulia). Unique flavors and very generous portions. We were not super excited by the hummus and chicken that we've tried, and will stick with lamb and baba ghanoush, but want to try their fish. We especially appreciate that they deliver so late, and that they deliver to us; we are about 4 miles away, but they have always arrived very quickly. this is one of my favorite restaurants in brooklyn! it is truly a hidden gem! this place is open 24 hours. i stumbled upon this place one night after grabbing drinks with a friend. it was about 2 am and we noticed that the restaurant was fairly busy considering how late it was- the rest of the neighborhood was dead. so we figured, this place must be good! we decided to give it a try and i'm SO glad we did. we ordered the medium meze platter and it was still HUGE! the falafels are so good & moist- probably some of the best falafels i've ever had in my life. and the hummus and baba ghanouj were amazing as well. they make fresh naan bread and it is soooo yummy and filling. their chicken shawarma wrap is also delicious and big enough for two people. their prices are great as well. i want to try everything on their menu because everything sounds delicious and when i look around at what other customers have ordered, it all looks and smells so appetizing. you have to give this place a try if you haven't already- you're missing out!! read more

The food is really tasty and good. But the restaurant is so disgusting! I couldn't enjoy my food at all because there's nasty eaten up chicken bones and rice everywhere on the floor. Walking around feeling the bones crunch there's also bugs EVERYWHERE flying in every direction. The whole time we were there we had to constantly kill the bugs every two minutes. How gross is that. My appetite was gone by the first two bugs we had to kill. For the rest of the time I was just dying to get my check and leave. The bugs went into my salad AND my main meal. I wish I could've enjoyed the food because it was honestly good but there's a SERIOUS hygiene problem. read more
