That is a lot higher than I remembered, but I am not about to question them. They set the price and that price is what they deserve." So I paid. But then I noticed there was more in my bag that I'd asked for, and that there had been a miscommunication. When I tell you that this miscommunication was corrected with swiftness *AND* a smile. No shade. No drama. Just an "Ooops, oh well, here's your refund on the balance." I know this seems very basic but we all know it isn't. We have all been in that awkward situation where as a customer we have to point out an error, and the vendor turns it into a Shakespearan tragedy. Not Sweet Life. "Oops. Sorry! Fixed. Love you." It's a smaller but very cozy and homey interior with two tables for sitting down to enjoy your coffee and pastries. It's also cash only or Venmo, so keep that in mind if you never carry cash! My only complaint is that it was pretty warm inside. It was a hot summer day, and I honestly couldn't tell if the air conditioning was running or if it was just fans. Either way, it wasn't very cool inside. Thankfully I had ice cream, so it didn't bother me too much, but it's something to keep in mind if you're stopping by on a really hot day. Overall, another great visit. Friendly staff, consistently high-quality matcha, and a fun atmosphere. If you're a matcha lover, this is still one of my favorite spots in Chinatown.

You move from your beds to the bakery all in one movement, it feels. Socks are pulled on and laces half-tied. For spring break, this isn't exactly sleeping in. But supposedly your father has this busy day meeting with his parole officer and God knows who else. Which is why 7am is spent not in bed but here, holding a donut in wax paper while Paul and Eddy run in tight circles around the shop. "That's gonna be $8.75 all together, sir," the lady calls to your father on the bench. He moves up to the counter in confidence, like he always walks away from places without paying. His credit card slides back and forth as he presents it to her and she slides it back with"cash only, sorry." You watch his face get all twisted up as his hands digs in his pocket. "Got any change, Nicholas?" he calls. You waste no time asking him to call you Nick and start digging in your own pockets. You know how this will go. Pop, don't do anything stupid, you want to hear yourself say. But instead you're watching him do his lean, that one he used to pull on Ma in the kitchen on mornings when he wanted her to come back to bed. "You gotta break later?" he slurs more than he needs to. Paul and Eddy are lining up pebbles they found on the floor, and it's times like now you're glad they are young and dumb. "You gotta pay, and don't you think you're finding a way out of it," she steps away from the counter. "I don't have cash on me," your father says in this pathetic way, trying to act all defeated for pity or something. "No cash, no donuts," she deadpans. "Okay! No donuts!" your father is saying, snatching yours right out of your hand as you're going in for a bite. You stare at the paper left in your hand as you hear "No donuts! No donuts!' over and over in that tense voice, and your brothers have realized theirs are gone and are tugging your shirt, tears welling in their eyes. You won't remember what the lady was saying, just the sound of her yelling and snapping gum, and the sound of your brother's sniffles and the door slamming as your father storms down the street. You will remember his big figure walking, long strides away to you don't know where. Anywhere but his parole officer you bet, but you don't do anything to stop it. My eyes were immediately drawn to, what appeared to be a 'Hostess Cupcake'....a chocolate cupcake with squiggly white frosting on top! I asked if there was a cream filled center, and there was! I ordered it. It brought back memories of the 'original' cupcake, but this was far superior than the Hostess cake! This cupcake was soft and velvety, with a chocolate richness that was wonderfully complemented with a deep, dark chocolate icing. I took a big bite to make sure I got some of the creamy center! Next up, the Sticky Bun. I love sticky buns and this one was a big reason why. It was covered with a sumptuous layer of walnuts and raisins. The buttery pastry had a delicious layering of brown sugar, nuts and raisins that enveloped and was folded into the bun. It was an exceptional sticky bun! We wanted to try a few doughnuts and asked for recommendations - we were told the Chocolate-Chocolate, Lemon Poppy and Red Velvet (with Cream Cheese frosting) were popular. We ordered all three! I would like to mention, Tiffany's is unique in that they cook the doughnuts in a steam oven instead of frying them! The steaming retains the moisture - resulting in a soft, fluffy texture and a truer flavor that's not influenced by frying in oil. The bakery is a second generation bakery having opened in 1977. The steamed doughnut is a new addition that revolutionized the bakery about 4-5 years ago. It's called the DoYo. Back to the doughnuts! Let's start with my partner's favorite - the Chocolate-Chocolate. We both agreed the steaming of these doughnuts makes a big difference. It was so light and moist - with a chocolate frosting that was a little firmer than the frosting on the cupcake. The Red Velvet DoYo with cream cheese frosting was heavenly - the soft texture reinforced the difference between the steam and oil bake - these cake DoYos were unique. The last DoYo was the Lemon Poppy. The icing and lemon flavor were luxurious! It was a nice finish to a variety of different doughnuts. The Oatmeal Raisin cookie was classic - soft and chewy, with an old fashioned oatmeal taste and texture. It was a good cookie. I saw the salted chocolate pretzels - at first I hesitated, as it's not really a pastry, but figured I'd try one. I'm glad I did! It wasn't your 'average' pretzel - the chocolate coating was as delicious as the icing on the doughnuts and the salt was a great addition. Far too many in my experience have been crisply overcooked resembling a perfect replacement for a coaster. This cookie was a delight! After leaving the store I found myself taking the tiniest of pieces from the cookies to prolong the disappointment of finishing it quickly. As for the cookie flavors, I picked up the lemon rock, matcha (green tea), white chocolate macademia nuts, and PB&J. I sampled all flavors and they were all delicious!! I am so glad I found this hidden gem and I will be back for more soon.
