Although it is a niche Asian bakery, it isn't exactly ideal. It is very small and easy to crowd. When you first walk in, it's a small platform. The pastries are behind a white table with an Asian older lady. But they are just in trays all in a rack with no labels and no prices. It's harder for people who have no idea what they want or want to think about it, compared to someone staring at them. It's also harder to plan when you're on a budget, and you gotta ask how much is everything. I think everything we got was under $2 each. There is a credit card processing fee, so cash is encouraged in small places like this!

15 years later KC's remains one of the best if not the best bakeries in Chinatown. My favorite still remains the pineapple coconut buns(which gets my vote for best sweet bun in Chinatown) followed by taro and custard cream buns. Sadly, they don't make the sweet potato tart anymore. Also the sesame rice balls don't have as much red bean filling as they used to. They do now sell a red bean filled mochi square which is very nice. As you can see, they did away with self service. Average cost per item is $1.75 -$2

A decent bakery that accepts cash and card (3.99% processing fee) so I recommend to bring cash. I came on a Sunday afternoon and there wasn't much left (at least the ones I wanted like bbq pork, pork floss, pineapple, etc) so I got a red bean bun, cream bun, and hot dog bun. The bread of the hot dog bun was good, not overly sweet but the hot dog itself wasn't great. The red bean bun was good. Cream bun was decent but I personally don't usually get it. I don't like the system, as everything is behind a table and the worker takes out the baked goods for you. You can't see everything as they're all in the rack so the worker has to pull out the trays for you to their current selection. There are also no listed prices.

Lady that runs the bakery is great. Nice to talk and explain what baked goods they are selling behind the counter inside. The sweet buns are very fluffy and have a great flavor. All the filling is tasty and you get a good amount, for red bean, custard, pineapple, etc. the best part is how reasonable the prices are. Lots of things for $2 or less for quality pastries. Delicious spot, love stopping in for a few treats. Thanks

There are several bakeries on this street, KC being one of them. Their standout buns are their Pineapple/Coconut bun and Custard bun. Both are freshly baked and taste awesome. Owner is friendly, and can communicate in English and Mandarin. If you call ahead, they can take orders as they tend to be busy around mid day. They can do custom bakery if you call ahead of time. Besides cash, I think they also accept Venmo or Zelle as form of payment.

They haven't offered as much of a selection since COVID, but this bakery is still one of the better ones in Chinatown. They have a really good roast port bun, but their egg tarts are too sweet and not flakey, imo. I also suggest their loaf breads- the raisin is my favorite!

Great pastries freshly made too. They are super well priced. I loved the chiffon cakes and the custard bun and egg tart was delicious. There's no set meñu so I recommend thinking about what you want beforehand!

Was looking to grab a quick breakfast in Philly Chinatown and decided to drop by to buy a few buns. When we got there, it wasn't your usual self serve, you had to tell the cashier which ones you wanted (looks like they're short staffed). We got a few things, roast pork buns, pork floss buns and a coconut creme bun. The buns were decent but the pork floss bun was unique since they rolled it into a roll rather than top a plain bun with the floss. Their roast pork bun was good but the filling was different - tastes like they put sa cha sauce in the it and there was a lot of bread, the ratio was a bit off. Overall not bad, worth a try if you're in the area looking for buns.

Good place for pastries! We got the taro bun to take back home and it was so delicious. The bun had ample taro filling that was a natural purple taro color. The bread was soft and chewy. The center had a slightly salty(?) taste as well; I know it sounds weird but it combined well with the rest of the bun. This place is cash only so just keep that in mind. I would highly recommend this shop for all your buns/pastries needs. These buns don't disappoint!!

I thought I'd written a review about this place before but to my shock I had not…read more I have been coming here since the day they opened, infrequently beacuse I am diabetic but when I want to spoil my body with delicious sugar, honey, this is *IT*. Now I could tell you all about how perfectly tasty everything is. From the classic banana puddings (I prefer the caramel version myself,) to the cookies, to the pineapple upside-down mini cakes. Yes, I could tell you that. But I want to speak to something deeper. I want to speak to belonging and community; and to fairness. As a biracial person with a brown sister, I feel the pull to support black and brown businesses. It's not a secret. And sometimes you do it, and sometimes you privately think "Damn. I wanna be supportive but this place is a mess." Then there's Sweet Life. NOT that. FILLED with good product at a great price, delivered by owners and staff who actually give a damn about being loving and supportive to all different types of people. And did I mention the sweets are POPPIN'? And to that statement of fairness. Today I came in to place an order, and when the price came up, for a moment I thought "Damn. That is a lot higher than I remembered, but I am not about to question them. They set the price and that price is what they deserve." So I paid. But then I noticed there was more in my bag that I'd asked for, and that there had been a miscommunication. When I tell you that this miscommunication was corrected with swiftness *AND* a smile. No shade. No drama. Just an "Ooops, oh well, here's your refund on the balance." I know this seems very basic but we all know it isn't. We have all been in that awkward situation where as a customer we have to point out an error, and the vendor turns it into a Shakespearan tragedy. Not Sweet Life. "Oops. Sorry! Fixed. Love you." So, to recap: Stunningly delicious sweets. Prices fair as hell. Communicative, inclusive staff doing the right thing. You need to take those money dollers and haul your ass over here TODAY. Now...where did I put my insulin pen?

They definitely seem consistent, which I really appreciate. I came with a couple of friends on a Saturday afternoon, and wow... this place was packed. Even with the crowd, the staff stayed friendly and worked quickly, so we didn't have to wait too long for our drinks. One thing I still love is the seating. They have giant plushies sitting in the booths, so if you're by yourself, you're not just awkwardly staring at an empty seat across from you. Maybe I'm the only one who appreciates that, but I think it's a cute touch. The matcha here is the real deal. It's bright green, fragrant, and has that rich, earthy flavor with just enough natural bitterness that you know they're using quality matcha. A lot of places advertise matcha, but this one actually delivers. I ordered one of their matcha desserts with ice cream, and it was creamy, refreshing, and let the matcha flavor shine instead of burying it under sugar. My only complaint is that it was pretty warm inside. It was a hot summer day, and I honestly couldn't tell if the air conditioning was running or if it was just fans. Either way, it wasn't very cool inside. Thankfully I had ice cream, so it didn't bother me too much, but it's something to keep in mind if you're stopping by on a really hot day. Overall, another great visit. Friendly staff, consistently high-quality matcha, and a fun atmosphere. If you're a matcha lover, this is still one of my favorite spots in Chinatown.

I personally thought the matcha one was the best. The service was quick and informative. And I loved the little booths they had, it was adorable. That aside, I do think the drinks are mediocre. I ordered their most popular, Mango Matcha and their Hojicha Latte. Sadly I was disappointed, the mango matcha was VERY sweet, but the texture was creamy. I just couldn't get over the overpowering sweetness of the mango puree, but that's my personal preference. The mango flavor itself wasn't bad! Maybe half sweet would be the way to go, Im not sure if they do adjustments. If you love yuzu, I don't recommend their yuzu soft serve HOWEVER their matcha soft serve is pretty yummy Their Hojicha was watery...I really hoped it would be better. I don't recommend it.
