Fantastic Ethiopian food! The owners were very sweet and are excellent cooks. It was so nice to be able to support a locally owned business on our stop in town. We had the vegetarian combos, and were very happy with how much delicious food we got. You could probably split a combo with another person if you're only moderately hungry. But it's always nice to have leftovers too, because you won't want to ever stop eating this awesome food. read more

Tastes were exotic and buttery; definitely a delicious alternative restaurant here in Sioux Falls. The homemade injera was deliciously sour, balancing the spicy red lentils. We had the beef tips and lentil dishes which came with a nice selection of sides. Green beans and carrots were outstanding, cabbage, potatoes and carrots very yummy, and the brown lentils with spicy green peppers and red onions were all eye-appealing and so delicious . Omg!!! This place was amazing! We were dropping our freshman off at Augustana and stopped here the night before. It wasn't busy so we were a little nervous BUT the service, food, and ambiance was just what we were looking for. I love their vegetarian platter. It is very tasty and filling. I like the tangy soft spongy bread called injera. I love their collard greens and cabbage carrots dish and also green beans and carrots. I liked the brown lentil best. Will definitely go again! read more

Fantastic. Went with a friend and we ordered the platter with a little bit of everything on it, Hagere Exclusive. Several pieces of rolled injera ( heavenly) and quite a selection of stews, veggies, meats to grab with injera. Was a fun and tasty experience! Service was attentive, restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. Saw a buffet set up and will certainly be back to give that a try! Will certainly try an Ethiopian coffee or Ethiopian beer next time, too! read more

I live on the western edge of South Dakota and look forward to interesting restaurants when I come to Sioux Falls. I came alone and ordered the Vegetarian Exclusive. The menu says it's a combination meant for 3 people, and it certainly could have fed 3. But the price was fine as a single entree. Every item in the combination was delicious, and I was happy for leftovers to take with me. Also, the server was a wonderful person. Someone came in off the street who looked like he might be hungry, and the server offered him food. I was impressed. I'll be back to Hagere for sure. read more

What a great new restaurant! It is simply decorated but clean with bright colors and multiple booths for eating. We came on Saturday and found they had a buffet. What luck! We got to taste a multitude of dishes we would of not normally had. Everything was delicious and well seasoned. We especially liked the lamb and beef stews. Also the have terrific misir wot and a beet/carrot dish. You really cant go wrong with any of the dishes. Kuodos to them for offering a buffet on the weekend. We will definitely come back. This place is the real deal, real Ethiopian cuisine in a family-friendly restaurant. I've eaten at Ethiopian restaurants across the US and Canada and Hagere is up there with the best of them. If one hasn't tried Ethiopian, it's a great adventure tasting flavors from one the oldest cultures. A bit like Indian but the spices are tamer and subtler. Served with every meal Ethiopian is the fluffy huge tortilla super-thin tortilla looking bread that is made with a wheat type grain only found in this African country. One eats food with their hands using the spongy pancake to scoop up the many different spiced vegetables. They have cooked meat, beef, and lamb stews that are great and unique. But if one wants to be adventurous and really eat Ethiopian go for the Kitfo. Raw beef. They don't have it every day because it has to be super fresh. But Kitfo is amazing. If they worry you don't know Ethiopian they will serve it cooked which is a big No, No. Tell them you want it raw. Super sweet folks, Ethiopians are wonderful. read more
