I've had Indian food in Seattle, Los Angeles, Austin, St. Louis, and New York City. I'm not mentioning this to brag, but as a way to show I've had Indian food throughout the United States so I think I have good idea what to expect. Having resided in Sioux Falls for about 2.5 years, I've found that food here is typically well prepared with fresh ingredients and served as I would expect. The strange thing is, there's almost always a distinct lack of any standout flavor: everything is there, it all tastes good, but it's not exciting or distinct. And so it goes with Indian Oven. There is a lot to like here and my rating is more like 3.5 stars. I just can't give it 4 stars. The portions are generous so you are getting a large amount of food. The entree I ordered arrived with rice which I appreciated. Service was prompt and efficient. The restaurant occupies the former Urban Chislic location so the decor inside looks much like a modern sports bar and that's fine - it's reasonably modern looking without being overwhelming. I think if I'd never had Indian food before I'd be very impressed. However, like I mentioned before everything looks and 'feels' accurate and yet the food always tastes like something is missing. I ordered Vegetable Samosa and there were good - the pastry seemed accurate and the filling was good. It was served with the usual sauce/sides as expected. The Dahl Makhni (beans) arrived at a very hot temperature which I did appreciate. The naan bread had a pleasant, chewy texture which I liked a lot. I can only give three stars because of the overall taste/flavor. I don't know if food in the Midwest is just intended to be 'flat' or 'polite'. I enjoyed everything I ordered and since I am a big eater I finished everything ordered - that alone should tell you it was good. We ordered catering and it was excellent in every aspect. The quality of the food, the quantity provided and overall value. The restaurant staff were also so friendly and professional. Everyone at the party commented on how delicious the food was. We are so happy with our experience. Will definitely be visiting more often. read more

As someone of Indian origin, I would have to say that to call this Indian food is criminal. The people who run the place are from Nepal and it may be perfectly good Nepali food, but it is not Indian. The only things made correctly were the rice and bread. The spices are Nepali, a blend of Chinese and Indian, heavy on a variation of Chinese red sauce instead of traditional curry. Even the simplest dish, raita, which derives its name from rai, the Indian word for mustard, lacked the key ingredient of mustard seed. Traditional variations include chopped cucumbers, tomato, and/or onion but this one had carrots and hardly any salt. I ordered a spice level of "hot" which I was told would be 8-10/10 spicy but it was barely 4-5/10. Very disappointed. Don't trust reviews from those who are not Indian or those who have not had Indian food often in cities with larger Indian populations like NY, LA, or Chicago. Ordered takeout here on a Friday night. It was ready on time! The dishes taste very similar to their sister restaurant, Everest, which is a good thing because that has always been my fav Indian place in town. Highly recommend the mango chicken, vegetarian korma, cheese naan and onion kulcha. The vegetable samosas were good but I missed the dipping sauce that typically comes with them (maybe they forgot or just don't offer it). New place on the south side of town - ambiance appeared to be casual - check it out! read more

11 out of 10, would eat there again. My family had a variety of different dishes. There were 6 of us and we each tried each others and they were all amazing. We started with the Samosa Chatt. It was truly delicious. My husband had the Tandoori Chicken Tikka. Phenomenal! My son-in-law had the Lamb Bhuna, soooo good! My daughter had Chicken Tikka Masala which she gets every time she goes there! My son got the Lamb Tikka, so wonderful and tender, his girlfriend got Butter Chicken, delicious! I got the Chicken Biryani and it was beyond stellar. You could taste each of the spices and the blend was perfection! Never have I had something so good that I wanted to drive all the way back up there the next day just to get it again. Fortunately for me, I had a bunch left over! woohooo :) Would highly recommend! Very good! We have enjoyed everything we have ordered her. Our favorite is butter chicken and we also have them add paneer in place of chicken. The crispy fried mixed vegetable pakoda is one of our favorite appetizers. We always order extra garlic naan. It goes great with everything! read more

Unexpected atmosphere for an Indian diner.. more like urban dining meets .. hmm. Idk. The three dishes we ordered were 5 stars. Absolute Yum.... Mango chicken might have been my favorite. I need a rerun. Just like the sister store , NO on the Nan bread. My two friends agreed~ it's chewy and stale like. Just like at Everest. I'll be back to try more entrees and dumplings. read more

Great new Indian restaurant! The goat curry was tender and tasty. The baingan bharta was flavorful, with a subtle eggplant taste and none of the eggplant texture my kids dislike. :) We also like the fresh naan and tandoori roti. A Taj Mahal beer went well with all of it. read more

We ordered take out. Food ready as promised. Mixed Vegetable Curry, Butter Chicken, Vegetable Samosa and one order each of Garlic & Cheese Naan. Rice was perfect! We are excited to have this fantastic Indian food option in the neighborhood. Way to go! read more
