Awful service. We ordered our food and was told twenty minutes. We showed up and waited another thirty only to be told that they didn't have the duck we ordered and asked if we would like to order something else. Really? I would love to wait around another thirty minutes while the rest of my food gets cold and I've already waited for fifty minutes. Unbelievable! They also forgot our soup, noodles and egg rolls. Hainan House has amazing lunch specials! I'm always very impressed with the service, complimentary tea, and fried rice. When you walk in you will notice that it is clean and quiet. The menu is pretty extensive and covers a wide range of items. I love their beef pho and Vietnamese iced coffee. Their sesame chicken and crab ragoon is also amazing. The place is over all a good place to eat. The first time I was there I enjoyed the chicken wings, crab ragoon and sesame seed chicken. The fried rice was not good at all. Tasted under cooked and lacked favor. I decided to go again and give it another try. I ordered the exact same thing (due to my Hainan being limited). This time the fried rice was great, but the chicken wings were much larger and tasteless. The crab ragoon was oily and tasted more like chicken than the wings. Yes I still ate it all, but for a Chinese restaurant they lack the consistency that I come to expect and love. And yes.... I will go again. read more

My grandma took me to her regular Chinese restaurant and I must say it is fantastic! The service is wonderful and the owners are friendly. You get a bowl of soup with your entree and it's delicious and the entrees are HUGE. I had leftovers for days. At the end of the meal they give you an almond cookie and a fortune cookie. I see the only review was from 2010..My Husband and I have been here 2 times in the last 3 weeks ..The previous owners are back running the restaraunt...The menu is Chinese and a small Vietnamese Pho menu...We tried the crab rangoon, (good) the shrimp toast ( excellent not over garlickly) small but good...Beef satay (?) on a stick ( very good, and not too chewy)...I don't eat any Chinese ribs, but Husband said they were tender...Other places were very chewy...The egg rolls were good also.. Service was excellent and the ( I believe one of the owners VERY nice....The Chef (owner I believe) checked on us both visits....I love that the soft drinks are served in a casn with a tall glass of ice instead of someone keep filling from a pitcher at the table from multiple tables... Husband ordered a fried noodle dish that I even thought was just so yummy..The meat (combo) tasted almost grilled..Also we ordered the Pho...Now let me just say the they have 12 kinds...The brisket in one is VERY tough...So stick with the number one with no meatballs, unless you have REALLY good teeth....We also on another visit order the fried boodle dish with combo meat...Excellent flavor..... I do think they may have a few other Vietnamese items at the bottom of the menu, but I was interested in the Pho..I love good Pho and they had some really good one..I did have to spice it up a bit which is oky since I do it at a lot of places I get Pho or noodle bowls.... I can't believe that this place doesn't have more reviews. It should! Don't let the surrounding dumpy strip malls fool you. We walked into the Hanian House and experienced a quaint and relaxing atmosphere. The staff was very hospitable. The food was priced was a little higher than what yelp rates it. I would say an average of $12-$15 per plate. The presentation was creative, beautiful and fun. Vegetables tasted fresh and were perfectly cooked. The food was delicious. It didn't taste like freezer burned meat thrown in sauce like most Chinese restaurants we have visited since moving to Fort Wayne. We had potstickers, General Tso's and Sweet and Sour Fish... they were all delicious. We will definitely be returning. After a year of being in Fort Wayne we have finally found great Chinese restaurant. Great for date nights. read more

My all time favorite Chinese restaurant is called The Canton House in Jersey City, NJ. After moving to CA and then to IN is never found a replacement. Until I found Hainan House! Great food, reasonably priced. I usually get take out, and they are prompt and never get the order wrong. Eating in the dining room is also quite pleasant. If you liked Szechwan House from the east side of Ft Wayne, this is the closest my husband and I found, and we've been to ALOT of chinese restaurants. My family often comes here for special occasions, such as birthdays or graduations. We have never been disappointed. We typically start out with some egg drop soup, which I have never had any that is better. While most restaurants have the egg yolk in the soup, Hainan House only has the egg white. Occasionally, the egg drop soup will have chicken in it, but it tastes great either way. My favorite dishes are the pork fried rice and General Tsao's chicken, and they are plentiful. Normally, when my family goes, my Dad orders several dishes, and then we take samples from each buffet-style. This is definitely the best method, because you get a great variety with the meal too. For Dessert, we typically get the Fried Bananas, which are brought out uncooked, and then the waitress will put some sort of fuel (alcohol, I think) on the bananas, and then light them on fire, which cooks them. It makes for a great show, and the bananas taste awesome. As for the staff, they are helpful and attentive, and they seem to be quite perceptive for not speaking English very well. Without being notified in any way, they figured out if it is someone's birthday and prepare some ice cream for them. Its a fun little dish, with a large helping of Ice Cream, and a fortune cookie on top, with a Candle lit in the middle. It is very enjoyable. Food was bland. Nothing special about their "special" fried rice. We also ordered an appetizer of fried wontons but there was nothing in them. No beef or veggies, they were literally empty. The service was rude and pushy. After paying for the bill the server came back over to make sure we left a tip on the receipt. He said" go ahead and write tip here, I wait". This our favorite go-to restaurant. The atmosphere is very calm, almost soothing so it is a great place to go for food AND conversation. The wait staff is always so pleasant and eager to please. The food is excellent and is very consistent from one visit to another. The portions are huge and the prices are moderate. We always have enough left over to have a second meal at home.
