I wanted to cut my hair and go lighter. I made an appt, (with Jodie Lynn) and was told I would need to come in for a consult. At the consult things seemed great, Jodie showed me pictures of colour, we discussed doing balayage, and she cut a small swatch of my hair and said she would see how it lightened up. I also showed her the picture of how I wanted my hair cut. I had high hopes. When the appt came, I was sat down and asked to fill out a sheet that asked how chatty I was feeling, how the health of my scalp was, and which two complimentary services I would like today. I thought that was pretty cool, and remember my previous stylist from this salon used to always give me hand massages and I loved them, so I choose hand massage and aroma therapy. I handed the sheet to Jodie and neither of those happened. Jodie seemed to have forgotten everything, but I didn't mind refreshing her memory, showing her the picture of how I wanted my hair cut, and that I wanted to go lighter. Then she also mentioned she lost my swatch of hair..which I thought was odd. But she said "it lightened up nicely". I was very clear I wanted my hair cut two inches below my chin, so it was just slightly above my shoulders, and she confirmed that with me. She then proceeded to do foils on my whole head- not balayage. She cut my hair to my chin, not two inches below, and my hair was uneven. I asked for it to be cut blunt, and one side was very obviously shorter than the other. When I compared the sides in front of her she said "that's how blunt cuts are" ummm what? They're uneven? She didn't offer to fix it. Also what I found very off putting, they asked all of their clients to fill out the "best of calgary" survey choosing red bloom in front of them. While my hair was processing I was also asked to do this. It seemed very high pressure, and I don't agree with it. I wanted to say no, but I also didn't want to look like a bitch in front of other people or have Jodie screw up my hair in spite so I felt I had to. When the customer is leaving the salon, why not ask them to vote on their own? Maybe offer $5 off the next service if they do the survey, if you're so desperate to get votes. Instead you bring them an iPad and hover over them to ensure they are choosing red bloom? Not impressed at all.

But from the start I told the stylist I wanted bigger ring curls throughout with the back flaring out(I have a mullet). When he started using the pink rods, I told him I thought those would be too small and that every other perm i got used orange, but he insisted that the orange was not the right size. So i decided to trust him(THE OWNER) since he had 30 years experience. After that he started rolling the sides downwards instead of towards the back, so I asked him again and he reassured me that rolling them down wouldn't effect the way they lay. So again I trusted him. Then when he finished rolling I noticed he rolled the backside down instead of up so that it would flare out, so I stopped him and asked if he could change it and he reassured me once again that he has never rolled up and that with my length, it wouldn't matter in the end. After that he came back with a form I had to sign saying that it's not the salons fault for undesired results that i had to sign. Once we washed everything out he could tell I was clearing unhappy with the results, so his way of fixing it was combing through my hair to try make the back flare out and brushing the top to make the sides lay back instead of fall to the side. I'm not perm expert but I've always been told never to comb or brush you hair after a perm or the curls won't set. Now I'm left with small twist curls that aren't rings on the top, with sides that pop outwards and small curls in the back with no flare. I look like I have permanently bed head. He wants me to go back in a couple days to reperm it for free but I'd honestly rather pay someone else to fix this disaster.

He did tell me at the start of the appointment that it would take two visits to get me as light as I want, but he could've done a lot more for me in one appointment. He put a "full head" of foils on my roots, but did not put any highlight in the body of my hair. He also over-toned it to a very boring and blah shade of beige. During the visit he asked if I could help put his foils together which is not really a huge deal, but if I'm paying close to 200$ for my hair I would like to feel pampered not doing work. He also got one of his students to wash my colour out, and she was quite awful at it as half of my foundation on my face was gone afterwards. I seen no change in my hair after the appointment, was a complete waste.

I was shocked as I always paid including a 20% tip using my debit card. I actually had the receipt in my bag and asked him to take the details - which he refused. Interestingly my stylist had told me a few months previous that another client was accused of "walking out without paying". The next day my husband went in to speak with the male and an altercation almost took place. I should have contacted the police at that time, I had the evidence of fraud taking place. Sadly at this time my 2 year old grandson had terminal cancer and I was not strong enough to deal with this but I wonder how many other customers had the same experience.
