I tend to write more detailed reviews about hair salons because my hair has always been a big deal for me. I have very curly, frizzy, coarse hair that tends to puff up and look much fuller than it actually is. It is definitely not the kind of curly hair that naturally falls into pretty, defined curls. Without blow-drying or straightening, it can get very unruly and hard to manage. I have been dealing with this hair for decades, so I have had more haircuts, blowouts, straightening treatments, and salon visits than I can count. Because of that, I can usually tell when someone really understands how to work with difficult curly hair. I wore short hair when I was younger, but after a bad experience, I avoided it for decades. About six months to a year ago, I decided to try a bob again. At first, I felt like the only way I could really manage it was by getting a straightening treatment about every six months. Since I also color my hair, I did not want to keep combining coloring and chemical straightening because of the damage it can cause over time. I decided to keep coloring my hair and stop the straightening treatments. Once more of my natural curl started growing back, though, the bob became harder and harder for me to manage. I was honestly starting to think I might have to give up on short hair and grow it out again. That was around the time I found this salon. What has impressed me most is how much easier my bob has been to manage since coming here, even without going back to regular straightening treatments. I am not especially skilled at styling my own hair, but after shampooing, I can now blow-dry and straighten it at home much more easily. The cut itself makes a huge difference. It also grows out really well, which is one of the main reasons I keep coming back. -- What really stands out to me is how well Risa listens. -- At every visit, she takes the time to ask how my previous haircut worked for me, what I liked, and whether there is anything I would like to change. I really appreciate that she listens to my feedback instead of simply repeating the same cut. I loved the shape of my last bob, but the back had been cut very short with clippers. Because my hair is coarse and pretty stiff, those very short hairs felt uncomfortable against the back of my neck as they grew out. Since I had not worn my hair this short in decades, I simply did not know my hair would react that way. I mentioned it to Risa, and this time she adjusted the cut and used mainly scissors and thinning shears instead of cutting the back so closely with clippers. I really appreciated that she listened to both what I liked about the previous cut and what I wanted changed. Most importantly, I love my bob again. The shape is clean, balanced, flattering, and very easy for me to manage. I also enjoyed the shampoo service. The brief scalp massage felt really relaxing and refreshing, and the salon itself always has a calm, comfortable atmosphere. My husband had his haircut again too, and his cut came out clean and polished, just like the previous visits. After three visits, it definitely does not feel like we simply got lucky once. The results have been consistently good for both of us. For me, a haircut that grows out well and stays manageable for two or three months, sometimes close to four, is absolutely worth the investment. Being able to maintain my bob this easily without relying on regular straightening treatments makes it even more valuable. That is why I keep coming back, and why I take the time to leave reviews. After our third visit, I feel even more confident recommending Risa.

She then called me and said she had fell down the stairs and didn't have her phone but was on her way. I felt bad so I stayed. She arrived about 15 minutes later. We discussed what I wanted done with my hair. She seemed a bit scattered but I chalked it up to her fall. She then said I have time to color your hair today and we can do extensions at the following appointment. She had difficulty finding things and complained about people coming into her salon and taking things. She came over to pin my hair up and pinned the first four segments up and when she got to the last had difficulty pinning it up. It took her several tries. I asked her if she was ok and up to doing my hair and she said yes. As she was doing this she said Siri call Jackson and attempted several times. About a minute later she said she gets worried when Jackson doesn't answer the phone. Siri never called Jackson as she couldn't get Siri to call. Thought it was weird but thought she may have been talking about another time. She started the first foil, she was about 2 inches from my head weaving the comb through my hair (I thought it was odd but maybe she had difficulty seeing) she put the first foil on my hair and started to apply color. She generously applied the color for about a full minute, rubbing back and forth. She then closed the foil and started the next. I thought to myself if this is how she does hair I'm going to be here all night. She again got about 2 inches from my head and proceeded to weave the comb through my hair this time she started to apply the foil and she couldn't get it up to the scalp and settled partially down my hair and then nodded off. I immediately said "you need to stop. I don't feel comfortable with you doing my hair. I want you to wipe the product off of my hair." She asked why and I told her what I thought (I won't say here) She then said let me wash the product off of your hair because it will keep processing. I went to the shampoo bowl held up the remainder of my hair so she could wash out the 1 foil. She put shampoo in the little bit of hair nodded off a few times and finally 5 minutes later I said stop and left with shampoo in my hair. I did make a report to the board of cosmetology. I ignored a lot of red flags and feel silly for even going back to her salon.
