Kids went in for a quick trim with Ray. He did a pretty good job on both kids' hair; especially my 13yr old who has an odd shaped head and needed extra shaping. This salon place used to be on Kings Highway and moved to 86th Street. I went to the previous place for years and followed them here. It is off 20 Ave on the D train. The boss lady is one friendly, diligent, and competent. She has cut and dyed my hair in its various lengths and colors (black to brown). There is also a popular nail lady and a guy stylist who have been there for a while. All three of them have regulars like myself. Part time staff flow in and out. A cut for short and medium hair has been around $15. This place takes tips. They speak Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. They frequently have customers who happen to speak Russian and Spanish, and they are patient with understanding what customers want. I would recommend this place for a wash and blow dry, hair cuts for any range of hair (including undercuts), hair dying, and highlights. read more

Decided to switch things up and try this small place instead of Empire. Though it's a small venue the staff is efficient, quick and don't skimp on the details. For a guys haircut Yen? did it fast but the result was satisfactory. The hair wash wasn't exactly pampering but refreshing nonetheless. The owner(?) messaged me and told me to shut up if I had nothing nice to say instead of trying to resolve the problem which would of made me change the rating. As you can see, the other reviews are most likely fake as they were posted all in one day and even attack me so do not trust the other reviews as they are most likely the store owner's friends. I came to visit a friend and decided to get a haircut. Place is OK, small and there is no seating area for my friend to wait. I paid $15 which I think is for short or medium hair. I just had a simple cut and curled my hair which looked good. The next day I can tell how badly they cut my hair. I feel like they curl my hair to hide how bad they cut it. Went there for the first time this morning and there was only one hair dresser named Ray. I asked for a basic haircut to trim about 2 inches because I didn't like how my previous hair dresser did my haircut.. Ray asked me what I didn't like about my haircut and really took time to fix my hair even though he had another customer to tend to. Yan Li does the best nail designs, I always love them. I decided to get my hair permed one day and it's no regret. I have received so many compliments on my new hairstyle. I got my haircut here and the sides are uneven. I told the haircutter to not cut my back too short but they didn't listen because they were too busy talking. I wish instead of talking all the time, they would listen to what their customer wants. The lady behind the counter talks the most and seems very obnoxious. She was rude to me when I went to pay. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!! I never write reviews but this was so bad I have to. From the moment I walked in the male hairdresser was annoyed I showed up. I came in for a wash and blow out -straight and I have long hair. The ENTIREEEE time he was huffing and puffing, and shaking his head in disgust, and clearly complaining about my hair to the other customers and workers. He was extremely rough, and kept ripping my hair out of my head and then yelling that I kept moving my head. After about a half hour of this I asked "is everything alright?!?!" He yelled "your hair is bad, very bad, horrible, no good!!!" Please don't waste your time and money!!!! I wish I could give 0 stars. read more

After seeing all the beautiful hair dye photos on their Yelp page, I decided to come here over the weekend as a change from my usual hair salon for a full dye and trim. However, the hair stylist didn't really seem to know what he was doing. I asked to dye it pink and happily showed a sample photo of the exact shade, but he denied my request and added that the bleach is not good for my hair so I shouldn't try it. Also, the color would most likely not turn out as expected. Excuse me? I came because they showed such wonderful jobs on the hairs of other girls who obviously had bleached theirs a million times as evidenced in their photos and he was just gonna downright refuse my request? Honestly, I understand they care very much about the health of my hair but deep down, I really wanted to try out pink hair! But me being my reserved self, sided with reasoning, complied with his advice and asked for his suggestion. He recommended more neutral colors, like the so many boring shades of brown. I chose a honey brown color (so common among Asians sigh). Applied the dye... tick tock... 45 minutes later, after rinsing, I expected a new head of light brown hair, but to my dismay, it was still the same black color. I looked him in the mirror as he blow dried my hair, noticing that he was not making a single sign of expression as if blow-drying required all his attention in the world. He didn't ask how I felt about it nor made any comment, and avoided eye contact. I felt ripped off, but I didn't say anything either. I was already in a bad mood the moment I couldn't get my pink hair, and I didn't want to be here any longer now that I have not gained an ounce of satisfaction from my first experience here. Once he was done, I thanked him bitterly and immediately paid at the register, leaving the shop completely let down with the results. Another one bites the dust. I won't be coming back and will continue my search for a more accommodating and experienced Asian hair salon. read more
