This haircut occurred some time ago and I was extremely hesitant to leave a review. The owner of the salon is a genuinely kind person with great conversational skills, but absolutely overshot my haircut. I came in with shoulder length hair, and he gave me a pixie cut which is not at all what I asked for. Very sloppy cut. Was more focused on talking rather than focusing on the haircut. When I said it was too short and was extremely polite, no yelling etc. and asked what we could do, he refused to fix it for me at any capacity because he felt "too awkward now" and let me leave without charge. It's taken a long time for me to grow it out and it definitely left me frustrated with my hair for a long time. I was hesitant to leave a review so long ago because he told me the last business he started , he had to close down mid Covid. I was empathetic to this, I desire the business future success but I do not recommend this place for young women with thick hair such as myself. read more

I recently moved here and was looking for a hair salon. I'm in my 60's and have been having my gray/mostly white hair colored brown for years. The cut, the color, it was not flattering. I googled salon's and of all the ones I looked at Hair Craft stood out. I really liked the stylists bio's and they had flattering reviews. I made an appointment with Michael. No exaggeration : This salon is awesome! First, easy to get to, easy parking. The salon is the perfect size. Not too large or noisy. It's very attractive and comfortable. I made an appointment for color and blowdry. When I met my stylist Michael I told him what a quandary I was in over what to do with my hair. I was thinking about letting it go completely white but didn't know how to go about that. Michael was the greatest gift this aging head of hair has ever seen. He suggested lightening up the brown, putting in some highlights and letting bits of the white peek through. I hadn't booked a cut but he was willing to stay if I'd like to add that. Oh yes, I would totally like to do that! When he was done I was honestly mesmerized. I can not remember when the last year (or decade) was that I'd been so excited about how my hair looked. I looked and felt happier and younger. Now I've heard of magic in a bottle and maybe that's out there somewhere. But I found magic in a hairstylist and that's the best kind of magic because now I can go back and repeat it as needed :) I don't know what you might be looking to improve in your hairstyle or color. But I felt that this very positive experience needed to be shared because I know how difficult it is to find the right stylist. Michael has done my hair a couple of times for highlights. The last time, tho he overprocessed my fine thin hair, and I was left with yellow bleach out hair. He knew my base hair was light already, and I turn quickly. He was supposed to alternate high and low lights with my natural color. He did that before, and I thought that was what he was doing. I even showed him the picture of what he did last time to remind him. Well, the day of my appointment, he was in a rush, meeting friends in NYC. I guess he didn't pencil in enough time and just highlighted my entire head with bleach and put me under a heated dryer to make it worse. I did tell him after, not really, what I expected. It's totally overprocssed and completely blonde. There was no depth of any low lights or my natural color showing. I did call him a couple of days out, and he put in a toner, but the damage was already done. I had to go somewhere else and pay another $200+ to put in low lights to even it out the bleach blonde. I wouldn't complain about the money if my hair could have been saved and didn't get so ruined from all the bleach. My hair just broke off month after month. Fast forward over a year later, my fine thin hair is still not the same. It has never grown back correctly the same way and probably won't... It's just devastating, and I can't believe how this careless mistake has put such a toll on my hair and has affected my life. I won't ever get back my hair no matter what I try to do. It just suffered too much damage. I will probably never be able to highlight my hair with bleach again and haven't since the incident. read more

I have been getting highlights for years and lately, they haven't seemed quite right, just getting lighter and lighter, but sort of lifeless and lackluster. The last time I got my hair done I decided to throw in the towel and just started to let the whole thing grow out... until I searched Google for hair salons in the Clifton area and found Hair Craft! Understated, friendly, good vibes and definitely worth the search. Michael took one look at me and immediately understood what I was looking for - more natural and more vibrant. He not only colored my hair, he added color to my whole life! The cut is exactly what I needed and the color is warm and full of depth. Having lived in Clifton for 10 years I finally tried this salon because of the yelp reviews. I was in need of a haircut and wanted someone who was a perfectionist. I came to the store after reading all the good reviews on this site from past costumers, so I was excited to try a Hair Craft Salon out, especially Michael. When I came for my appointment with Michael, he was very nice and seemed to know what he was talking about. I wanted to try a new style and asked for his opinions, which he provided and cut my hair shorter as I asked him to. We discussed a certain style for the haircut, and after Michael used the blow dryer, the hair cut seemed fine at first, but coming home I washed my hair and could see it was not finished in the back. Instead of it being cut evenly, rounded to shape the back of my neck, and all layers cut the same length as asked, instead the back was faded, and not very well unfortunately. This left the impression that I had two completely different lengths of hair in the back, and looks sloppy. It's not me being unhappy about a new hair style, it's that the haircut was not finished, and I feel like Michael should have had to experience to let me know this before I left. I feel I'll have to go somewhere else to get it fixed now. read more

Awesome experience for a curly haircut. Michael listened carefully and asked good questions (since I didn't necessarily know how to explain what I wanted), then he made relevant and helpful suggestions. He gave me lots of great tips and ideas to try in the future. I got the sense that this is an expert who cares about his work and his clients. I'm really tempted to go back for my first pro hair color! Micheal Burke owner of Hair Craft Salon did it again! I have fine hair that can be curly and fizzy. Takes a lot of work to make it look good, which I have little patience and skill. I own every hot roller, hot iron, steam rollers, you name it, I tried it. Micheal is a master of color, hair cuts and blow outs. He knows your hair so well and what will work for you. I hesitated for such a long long time to cut it short. And Micheal would gently suggest to cut it, but never insist or push you. He always does what the client wants. So finally I said lets do it......and I only wish I did it years ago. He is fabulous, I will only let HIM do my hair. No one compares. Just love him and his salon. I have been going to Michael little under a year for cut, coloring and wax. Betty is my go to for wax brows. I was a "work in progress" and Michael listens but also suggests to keep the cut up to date. Michael is an artist and takes time with not only cut but blowing out the hair to make sure it falls nicely. I went to Hair Craft in the beginning of October on a very dreary, rainy afternoon. I was a little late, but regardless, everyone was very friendly and Michael, the owner, immediately took me into his chair. After a thorough consultation Michael knew exactly how to color my hair. He was personable and made me feel as if I had been there 100 times. From the consultation, through the multi-process color to cut and style, Michael was terrific! Owner could not make it to my appt, so I settled for the "apprentice" for a single process color. It took him two hours. He made me sit with my head in the sink for 10 mins after he pulled the color through my ends, which was very uncomfortable. When I got back to the chair with sopping wet hair, he dried two strands and asks me if I like the color, then basically kicks me out of the chair because he has another client. While I'm paying at the counter with my hair dripping down my back, I try to pull it up in a ponytail and realize that I have soap still in my hair. The receptionist was sweet and offered to wash it out for me, but I just needed to end this experience. The apprentice was very awkward and of course inexperienced, so he shouldn't be taking over for the owner's new clients. I thought that the owner would have followed up with me afterward so I can give them a second chance, but it didn't happen. Older clientele in the shop so can't really speak to the "hip"-ness of this place. It's disappointing to me that this isn't my new hair salon, so still looking.. read more

what a wonderful refreshing experience....friendly down to earth....an actual consultation that was a 2 way conversation. someone actually listening to what I know works and doesn't work for me. as a hairdresser i am extremely particular and i know the difference. i went into this salon after doing some research. though reviews were good i was still petrified. after chemo my hair grew back totally different....very curly and deceiving....i had been cutting it myself for years because i have had my share of bad cuts at every price point...but it got to where i could not do that any more. thank you michael for easing my fears....for listening to me....and for giving me the best haircut ever at a price that is beyond fair and reasonable. i absolutely love my hair. you are obviously in this industry for love and it shows in your work...... and to your staff.....if it wasn't for chris and his professionalism and genuine interest and kindness i might have missed out. read more

This place is amazing--been going there for years on and off but since unemployed have not been able to go--even though Michael has offered me money off by having one of his super trainees do my hair as he watches (so nice of him)!!!!
