Communication needs to become a priority at this establishment. I went in to get a deep conditioning and blow dry. I ended up paying 78 dollars on a 50 dollar service. They charged me an extra 16 to flatten out my ends with a flat iron which was not told to me, and they added an 18 dollar tip which was also not communicated with me prior to finishing the service. My hair turned out poorly as well and I had to redo my hair once I got home!!! The workers were dismissive and rude, and I was just looking to get my hair done quickly for my birthday. This rating is based on my overall experience. If I could rate my experience solely on the barber I go to, I would give it a 5 star. Long is one of the barbers there and seems like the friendliest person there. He does my hair perfectly every time and seems happy to cut hair. I am not surprised if he is the favorite barber there. I've been going to this hair cuttery for several years and will not be back. Stay away! I got a classic blowout. Should be simple enough, right? It was an awful experience. My hair got caught by something in the sink during the wash (it hurt to pull out) and my hair is not clean. During the blowout, the hairdresser was spraying water on my roots while she was drying my hair because there was STILL shampoo on my scalp. No wonder my roots are completely flat. So disappointed. The hairdresser offered to fix it but it's like, you had that chance when you saw shampoo on my scalp and did nothing to fix it? If you read the different reviews for this hair Cuttery you may be very confused how some people can say they had a great experience and others could be very upset and angry with their haircut or other service. I realize that it really depends on the stylist that you get. I had a master stylist color my hair and she was professional and friendly and did a great job. If you want to get good service get a master stylist at this location and you will be happy with the result. Of course a master stylist will cost more but we get what we pay for. I was very very happy with their Covid 19 precautions. Everyone was wearing a mask and they practice social distancing. They also had a sink with running water, soap, and paper towels. The guy did an amazing job with my hair took his time and really left me speechless on my new look. I did not have a date to go to but he made me look like a 10 out of 10! Incredible service I will most likely tell my friends and bring family members here to get a haircut with him. He really works hard and takes his time with his work and actually goes through steps to really give you an understanding of the basic things about hair and he does everything to not damage your hair. I have to say that I visited a Hair Cutter in the Richmond, VA area several years ago and they did such a terrible job that out made me decide to cut my own hair for several years. It was wit trepidation that I went to the one in Alexandria, VA. But the expert stylist Jamila seriously has really changed.my opinion. She is very kind and cares about you and what you want. Took my 8 year old to get a hair cut. Never again. 1. She was one day shy of 9, they wanted to charge the adult fee. 2. She has straight long hair, they wanted to charge extra $10 for a shampoo, cut and blow dry. No where in the store, on the wall, in their itemized cost book, does it state that it is extra. Not said upfront either. They charge extra for straightening and curling, but that was not done. 3. I asked, repeatedly, to put "long layers" in my daughter's straight long hair, and some to frame her face. She got a bowl cut instead. "Layers" is pretty basic. The layers were instead jagged edges that look some someone cut her hair with a dull knife. Then when I got home I could see that the hair cut was not even. It was longer on one side than the other. Simple cut. Terrible skills. I refused to pay any more than the $20 that was advertised. Sad part, I have to now pay a real stylist the money to even out her hair! read more

A few days after getting a haircut at this location I realized my hair was uneven, specially in front; the layers did not connect at all. Not sure how someone who is there for 6 years does that. On the positive note, I called and the manager made me an appointment with someone else to fix it. Joy did an amazing job! She is not only very knowledgeable, but walked me through the different options to fix it and gave me tips to style it. I was not planing to ever going back to this place, but Joy you kept my business. If you don't have any references and are going for the first time, I highly recommend her!! Sophia is the best. She listens . She is a great colorist and bring a picture and she will give you the cut you want. Plus, she gives the best shampoos I've ever had. Thick hair requires hard scrubbing to get color out. For extra, she'll give you a head massage beyond any salon in town. Wow! A couple of weeks ago I saw a woman at the grocery store with flawless hair Today! I had to find out who styled her.. it looked so healthy! She gave me her stylists name and so I took a chance and called Samaria. Today I was able to get an appointment with Samaria at this location and wow! What a wonderful job she did for me. I wish I had taken a picture before she got started on my hair as well as what it looked like when she finished my hair. I typically go to the Hair Cuttery in Bethesda but decided to come to this location to get a haircut after work. I must say, it was like a different world. The disorganization was crazy. I had a new hairdresser who was extremely nice but clearly not trained. She didn't know the prices, where products were, or how to use the register. They basically made up a price on the spot for a cut and blowdry (she asked another woman how much it would cost) and they said $32 because I have long hair which is fine, but I didn't get my hair washed. Anyways, my haircut came out nice but the blowdry left my hair frizzy and the lady actually ripped out several strands of hair on her rolling brush. As she rolled my hair on the brush I felt strand after strand being pulled out. I've never had this happen to me while getting a haircut before. Typically the hairstylist will put a defrizzing product in after but they didn't. I had to ask for it. It took 4 different people just to find a defrizz product with anything left in the bottle. While ringing me up, they clearly did not know how to charge it and kept voiding and putting it in again. I'm pretty sure they overcharged me because I didn't get the wash. I feel bad giving a two star review. The staff is nice, but this is not the most organized operation. read more

The website stated that I had to register and create a login/password. After attempting to do so, I got a "page not found" screen. Then, I looked up the specific Hair Cuttery location a different way. It also wanted a login and password (but a different set of rules). When attempting to do this stupid registration, it would not allow one to enter a birthday, although it would not allow me to create an account and make an appointment, which I had already selected (day, time, service). Note, I'm an IT person so I know a little about systems. After wasting 22 minutes, starting over three times, I gave up. One would think that the Hair Cuttery chain would not make it so difficult to just make an appointment. Obviously, I can't make an appointment at any location. Yes, I will punish all the stylists due to the ineptitude of the Chain. So, I made an appointment at a competitor where the process of making an appointment was very simple (and it did not ask me if my sex was "Other")! read more
