Got my hair dyed by Trang Nguyen. I previously had red money pieces -- came in to add some more highlights and replace the red with a mix of pink and blonde. Trang was honest that it would be difficult to achieve the colors I wanted to go for given that I had naturally black hair and red box dyed highlights, which I already knew coming in, but I still appreciated this honesty and she was very helpful in figuring out what to do with my hair. I was worried with my hair history that it wouldn't work out nice, but result turned out even better than I expected! The price stayed pretty true to the amount I was quoted prior to coming in. About $280 which is certainly not cheap, but compared to other quotes I got from other salons in the area, this was the cheapest one I could get. Very happy with the results regardless. It's been about two months and the color is still very vibrant, and definitely turned out much cleaner than if I tried to dye it myself like I usually do, so very worth it in my opinion. The overall experience was also very nice. The atmosphere in there is calm and Trang was very friendly. Will definitely come here again to work with Trang! read more

During a very thorough consultation about my color goals, she recommended adding a gloss to the ends instead of doing an all-over color. She also suggested a deep conditioner to soften my hair and asked if I wanted a blow dry. I've never left a salon with wet hair after a service--I like to see the finished result before leaving--so I agreed to the blow dry and style. The stylist did have another client come in, which caused some delays, but after about 3 hours my hair was finally ready to be dried. There was a lot of discussion about how I typically style my hair, which made me expect a styled finish. However, my hair was only dried straight with no real styling. I ended up going home to finish it myself, which made the $58 charge for a "blow dry and style" confusing and frustrating. At checkout, Love had to attend to her next client, so another associate rang me up. My total came to $244 before tip--nearly triple the original quoted price. I was charged separately for every added service, but none of the pricing was clearly disclosed upfront. To make matters worse, my scalp burned all night and felt like it was on fire. I've been coloring my hair for over 25 years and have never experienced that before. I ended up washing my hair the next morning, and the amount of color that came out was shocking--it stained my white tub and required a full bleach clean of my bathroom. While Love was very kind, the overall experience does not justify the price. I would not return, especially given the lack of transparency and the quality of the results. read more

I genuinely hate writing negative reviews, but my experience with Albania Thomas at Bubbles Pentagon City left me really disappointed. I booked a simple single-process color appointment after being unable to get availability for a larger color package. Since I booked a simpler service, I expected a straightforward appointment, but I was still assigned a master stylist and charged close to $200 for a single-process color and glaze treatment. Before the appointment, I was very clear that I did NOT want warm, red, orange, or chestnut undertones in my hair. Unfortunately, the result came out much warmer than what I asked for, with noticeable reddish/orange tones and uneven color between the top and bottom sections. I returned the next day because I was told I could come back if adjustments were needed. What upset me most was not just the color itself, but how uncomfortable the correction appointment became. I constantly felt rushed, blamed for not liking the result, and emotionally exhausted by the interaction instead of feeling helped or reassured. The color did become darker after the correction, and the stylist who did my haircut afterward was genuinely wonderful. But overall, this was one of the most stressful salon experiences I've had, especially at this price point. Even now, my hair feels much drier than normal after washing, and I personally experienced scalp irritation afterward, which I've never experienced before despite coloring my hair many times over the years. I understand mistakes happen, but I expected much better communication, professionalism, and empathy from the receptionist and a master stylist. read more

I love Bubbles on Hayes st Arlington Va , from the moment You walk you are graciously greeted by the lovely receptionist , to getting your hair done it's a wonderful experience. Trang is my stylist , she is the best , she's a perfectionist, I have short hair and she does an incredible job , not everyone is good with short hair , when You love your hair everytime You leave any salon You know you've found your stylist . She's also sweet , kind and genuinely cares about You being happy each and everytime. UPDATE October 2024: I went back this past weekend to get a trim since I had a great experience last time. I used the online booking system for an appointment with Jasmine. My appointment was confirmed via multiple emails and reminders and they all stated I would be seen with Jasmine. I arrived to check in and then person working the front desk said I was with Trang and not Jasmine. I was never contacted about this change and would have been more than happy to reschedule with Jasmine if I would have been contacted before I arrived. Instead, I reluctantly said it was fine I see Trang since I already was at the salon. Trang did an okay job. I specifically asked for my top layer not to be too short, and behold it is. The layers aren't as blended as I would like but will probably be fine in a month with grow out. I payed for a blow dry and style and no products, not even heat protectant, were used in my hair so the style lasted approximately an hour. Overall, this visit put bad taste in my mouth and will be unlikely to return. Unfortunately because I thought I found my new salon! April 2024: I took a chance on Bubbles and I couldn't be happier. My previous stylist at a different salon cut my hair uneven, then "fixed" it but still left it choppy and messy. I decided to cut my losses and try another salon out of desperation so booked a same day appointment with Jasmine she had my hair looking so good. I'll be returning here and not my previous salon and stylist. read more

Had an appointment with Fran and it is by far one of the worst haircuts i've had. she was incompetent and had not even a clue on how to deal with my curly hair. I asked for a light fringe that tapered into face framing pieces. She cut full thick bangs that then because of my curls are halfway up my forehead. And It is so choppy overall. She then said it was extra to flat iron it after blow drying it half way and I left the salon looking like a crazy person to just have to come home and re wash it. I had a good experience visiting Bubbles in April , but this ruined my experience and trust in this salon if they had hired someone so incapable. read more

Absolutely loved my haircut by Trang! During the wash she could tell my neck was straining so she instantly added extra support so that I could be more comfortable. All throughout the haircut she was sure to check in with me on the length since I didn't want it to be short. Later when she blow dried my hair she took her time and gave effort to every section. All of these actions really made my entire experience so positive! Will definitely be coming back to her next time! $60 for the cut + tip Also bought the shampoo and conditioner and she totally looked out for me when I was adding the tip. Imani was a very sweet person I think there was just miscommunication on the color I wanted so the assistant manager offered to have it fixed 2 days later.. I went back to get it done by the assistant manager herself and It still was not the right color.. so now I have fried hair and a color that I don't even like. I also thought it was very weird on her part to cancel my appointment afterwards so I wouldn't be able to write a review. I will never be coming back here. At 1:08pm (5/13) I placed a call to the salon to try and set up two appointments with Albania since I was having an issue booking online yesterday. Yet instead of being able to book these appointments I was racially profiled by receptionist. Quick back story....I had an appointment with Albania 2 weeks ago (5/25/23). Loved my experience, loved her energy and was anticipating on returning since the salon is walking distance from my home. On 5/25/23, I paid a total of 281.84 (185.00 for service + 31.80 for overpriced 4oz oil + 65.04 generous tip)...no complaints! Also make note that I called to book this particular appointment with a different person and no issues. Yet, today I called and asked for Albania and was first told by receptionist "she was with client" THEN was told "she was out and will be returning in 10 minutes" (both lies and simply weird she wouldn't just simply say Albania was not working that day). So receptionist proceeds to ask me for my name and number so Albania could call me back. My information was given then all of sudden receptionist proceeds to state that maybe the website wouldn't book my appointments because "I have natural hair and Albania is not taking "new clients with natural hair " right now since she had surgery. I then made it known I was just there 2 weeks ago and receptionist states "oh you were, then you can get your done"....at that point I was extremely confused because I never voiced what services I wanted nor that I had "natural hair" for the receptionist to even say anything about "natural hair"....so I simply let the receptionist know that our conversation feels to be going left so I no longer wanted to speak with her and hung up. Once I hung up, the receptionist called me right back asking did I want to speak to the salon manager (and to make it clear, I never voiced I wanted to speak to a manager). This was confirmation that she was definitely aware of her wrongs and how she came at me was unprofessional. She admitted to never looking in the system to see that I had visited the salon previously but simply heard my name and profiled me. She even tried convincing me that her children were biracial....extremely unnecessary and her saying that didn't change the fact she was wrong. So at this point since she's openly voicing how unprofessional she was aware of being I told her at that point I needed to speak with salon manager (Mark, I believe his name was). He was completely nonchalant about the situation, no apology and after me explaining what happened just said "so what you trying to do", rushing the conversation completely. Updated 5/14: Albania gives me a call and offers to do my hair for free because of the situation and I declined. "I never care of cost for services, I tip well and even purchase products for stylist to get commission BUT I will never settle for a free handout. Wrong is wrong and your receptionist openly admitted to being wrong and profiling me. Yet she should have checked the system first to see if I had previously been there OR asked if I had natural hair instead of putting her foot in her mouth. And it's a shame if she really does have "biracial" children...yet how would you think they'd feel if someone treated them the same simply by their name. I'm simply disgusted by the receptionist and manger for the lack of concern of this matter. read more

Bubbles was affected by the pandemic. Bubbles & the Hair Cuttery went out of business & were sold. Washington, DC doesn't have Bubble salons any more (RIP). This salon by the mall has increased prices for haircuts. I had two haircuts by the same stylist. The first cut was good without being spectacular. The second cut was just so so. She was not as careful with the second cut. It is hard finding a decent stylist. The manager offered to tweak my haircut. I am waiting for my hair to grow out a bit so there is something to work with. That is the only reason I am returning to this location. The salon is close to Pentagon City metro. You can also find paid street parking or the garage. Some businesses will validate parking (inside the building by Marshalls). Bubbles doesn't validate. read more
