Tsing did a great job and was very kind. The salon itself is no frills. Only deducting a star because they aren't equipped to properly style curly hair-no diffusers. Kind of a bummer as it would be nice for curls to be properly styled after a cut. However, as someone who generally goes into Richmond to have their haircut Tsing did a really good job without the RVA pricing. read more

Horrifically Horrible Girlfriend got a haircut that has not stopped crying since. She was set to have Maria cut her hair and they went over what she wanted. Right after I walked out Carole decided to take over and went a different route than she wanted. The original plan was shoulder length and the end product was a small Afro on a Chinese woman. Carole took advantage of her limited English and just kept overcharging, cutting and adding product. After adding an additional $100 to the estimate she demanded a $45 tip. If you go there do not let Carole anywhere near your hair. She is horrifically horrible and service and a very rude woman. read more

Good haircut by prices are quite high. $13 long hair charge...? The appointment was slated for 45 minutes according to the online booking system. The stylist finished each girl in 35 minutes. So I guess the extra cost was shampoo, conditioner, and electricity for the hairdryer? read more

Was very unsatisfied with haircut. All I wanted was a bob with some layers in the sides and front. The back is a choppy mess! The stylist did not dry my hair so I couldn't tell what is was going to look like. My neck was burning all night and it's still burning this morning. She only used scissors, usually they use a razor to make it straight. I could feel the scissors as she cut it. I took a picture and I have no layers in the side and the front pieces that I asked to be longer are very uneven. I asked My friend at work to be very honest and she said it was very choppy in the back. I won't be going back here. Not sure why she didn't dry it so we could see all the things that were wrong. I was hoping this would work out so I don't have to go to a high dollar salon but it just didn't. read more

I was skeptical coming here after reading the recent reviews.... One thing I do have to say is call ahead of time to make an appointment because I think it is pretty difficult to do a walk in. But my experience overall was great. I walked in on a Monday afternoon and was told they had nothing available so I made an appointment for the next morning first thing when they opened. The next day I came in and was pretty quickly taken over to start my wash and haircut. I was with Jenny and she was great, I decided to go shorter than I usually have and she was not hesitant to go as short as I wanted, which I have previously found other stylist have been. She gave me a great even cut for such a good price. I would definitely go back and have Jenny as my stylist. I did go home an trim up a little of the side just because my part was in the wrong spot, but I'll just know for next time to voice that concern. read more

If you go to this location DO NOT allow JESSICA to cut your hair. I asked for a trim and bangs and she cut 5 inches off of my hair and my "bangs" were still at my lips when I walked out. She also was trimming my undercut and shaved a chunk of my long hair in the process and didn't even tell me and I realized after I left. I had to go home and fix my bangs, and make my undercut go higher up to hide the chunk of hair she shaved off. She was incredibly rude and pointed where she wanted you to go instead of telling you, texted instead of cutting your hair which was when she shaved outside of my undercut, and even had me hold her phone to record her cutting my hair. She absolutely doesn't listen to what you want, and does not care about your final outcome. read more

I've been coming to Hair Cuttery on and off for a few years especially during while in college. I was happy to see the salon move to a new location. I think the new location is central to an ever growing Mechanicsville population. The new location is more visible and convenient to Publix, Aldi, new eateries, etc. The prices for certain services can be a little steep. But I do like my stylist that I always set up appointments with. Each time I go I set up an appointment prior to save an extra $5 off of my service. There is more space, better lighting, and a newer check in process on the kiosk. The parking is much better. I think this location will do well! read more

Mo gives a good haircut and I've recommended her to many people. But today I had an experience that will be my last with Hair Cuttery. I had a 9:30 am appt., arrived 5 minutes early and saw Mo dash in as she was just arriving to work. I decided to give her a few minutes to settle in before walking through the door at 9:29 at which point I was greeted by the only other hairdresser there. She confirmed my appointment in earshot of Mo who was already cutting someone else's hair. She didn't bother to acknowledge me or let me know that she was running late or how long I might need to wait. I waited 15 minutes with not a word from either hairdresser. I remained only because I needed a trim before going out of town. When she finally took me, she was less than polite. When I went to pay, she let me know that I needed to enter the tip first because their system is "backwards". I left 20% because I know she works hard, but she's lost a client and future referrals simply because she couldn't offer me the common courtesy of showing respect for my time. read more

My third time coming by this location to get a haircut went and had to sign in on a computer pad no one said hello or welcome to me. Signed in the first time and there was quite a number of people there no one could get me a estimated time of weight so after 10 minutes I left. Came back on 11 June at 12 o'clock or a little before I went in there was only one other customer sitting waiting all but one of the hairstylist was working so signed in again waited people came in with appointments took them never could get a time of how long to wait before someone can get to me sat there for over 30 minutes. No one ever came out to say it will be a mother 510 or 15 minutes after they had finished with their appointments most all of them disappeared to the back with their drinks sat there for another five minutes and said to hell with it and left. read more

I went in an hour before closing this past week and asked if they had time to dye my hair. The stylist was very comprehensive in finding out specifically what I wanted and then suggesting options for me based on that. I ended up going with city lights and my hair looks fantastic, better than I was hoping for! I went a little darker than normal so I was very nervous about the outcome. But I have gotten non stop compliments about my hair since getting it done! The whole process took 2 hours and the woman gladly stayed with a smile on her face to do my hair. The staff here is all-around friendly and helpful. I especially wanted to write this review to praise the stylist, Jessyca. I tried her for the first time yesterday after a recommendation from a relative, and I'm so happy I did. I rock a natural short cut, and it can be a challenge finding people who really know their stuff when it comes to styling this type of hair. The rudeness of the "salon professional" was incredible. This was the 3rd time I've seen the same person and have never had an experience like this. I was in tears from her cruelty and rudeness. I've been going here for years and only once have I gotten a messed up hair cut. I went back the same day and they fixed it for free. I've gotten color treatments there haircuts trims everything. I've had multiple hair stylists because I'm not particular. All of them have been super nice and friendly. The customer service I think is amazing and I've never felt ignored or anything. I love this place it's my number one choice for haircuts and I recommend this place to all my friends!! read more

So I'm a pretty picky gal when it comes to my hairstylists, and so I was a tad nervous going to a new salon (I had recently moved to Richmond, and my old hairstylist was over an hour and a half away). I immediately felt welcomed by the amazing staff here. Everyone was chatting, laughing, and working hard on their clients. Mikayla did a great job on my haircut my first visit, so much so that I went back to her to get my hair dyed from my old green hair color to a natural dark brown. In case anyone doesn't know reading this, green hair dye is EXTREMELY difficult to get out of your hair, and you'll more often than not have to deal with pretty damaged hair afterwards. Mikayla worked for HOURS to get it all out, carefully combing through my hair to make sure all of the green was coming out, and even asked the opinion of another hairstylist in case she may have missed any spots. She made sure that my hair had the least amount of damage as possible, and the condition of my hair is still great! She stayed past closing, and never once complained about it, and even said she was happy to do so. She even trimmed the back of my hair to make it a bit shorter when I asked, and didn't take any offense to it whatsoever (She had done a great job on the haircut in the previous visit, but I wanted the back just a wee bit shorter after giving it a bit of time). I happily gave her a good tip for a wonderful job. Consider me a loyal customer, I will be going NOWHERE ELSE. The salon itself is immaculate, as they always work hard to make sure the salon stays neat and clean, and it gives upscale vibes without the upscale prices and attitudes. Waited over an hour when I finally had to leave. Watched several people come in and waited on in that hour. I understand some probably had appointments, but not all did. Watched stylists finish with a client and then disappear in the back for 20+ minutes before they came back out to work. The stylist was very nice. style look fine when she was done. however when i got home and washed and dryer my hair, i found many longer pieces mixed in through out my hair cut and one side is longer then the other....will need to see if this can be fixed at another salon.... read more
