Had a haircut yesterday with Bryone, who did not really listen to me. Showed her multiple photos of what I wanted, specifically photos of me with the haircut I want and have gotten in the past. She started off asking if I wanted it way shorter than in the pictures (I am normally a 5-guard, she wanted to start with 2)., I said no, and I ended up leaving with hair much, much shorter on the sides than on the top, and with the hair left on the sides choppy and uneven. When she said she was going to clean up my facial hair and I said no, she said "You like it like that?" Bad experience all around. My wedding is in a month and I just have to hope it will grow out in time. Absolutely frustrated, angry, and sad. read more

I won't name names, but during my recent visit my stylist left a noticeable amount of hair on my face and embedded in my hair. When I mentioned it, I was told it would all come out once I showered. At checkout, I was charged $31, which surprised me since my Hair Cuttery cuts have always been $24. When I asked about the price, I was told this was normal. After checking the pricing sheet in my car, I realized I had been charged for a shampoo and conditioning service that I did not receive. The stylist was kind and did a great job on the haircut itself, but they appeared rushed once additional clients arrived. Left work early for a hair cut only to get there and see the ladies all looking confused. They all said they could not cut ethnic hair. I already knew that, that's why I asked for the same lady who cut my hair the first time. Funny thing is, all they had to do was lower my hair around the back and sides. It had already been done. I was super nervous about coming to a Hair Cuttery to get my hair done and Yasmine was absolutely amazing. I just moved here from the Arlington Virginia/DC area and I wasn't quite sure if I would find someone that would be able to do my hair . She did a great job with my blowout and simple loose curls. Yasmine is the best and only person I trust with my hair. I'd never had a hairdresser that gives me exactly what I ask for before I started coming to her. When I asked for a shorter cut she even told me that we should dry my hair first just to make sure that that it wouldn't be too short. I would die for Ryann. I'm new to RVA and was struggling to find a stylist that could do naturally textured/curly hair. I took the leap and came in to get a big chop with a round cut to accentuate my curls and give me volume. Ryann was SO METICULOUS AND PURPOSEFUL while cutting my hair. I've never had someone take so much time to cut my hair to make sure it wasn't choppy and was so perfectly rounded. She was also so incredibly fun to talk to!! My best friend was so impressed by how Ryann did my hair that she decided to get her hair styled by Ryann too and she KILLED IT!!! I came here today to get a haircut and blow dry from Bryce and she was amazing! She cut my hair exactly how I wanted and it came out awesome. She was super friendly and easy to talk to. It was pouring rain when I left and she even gave me a plastic cap to wear since she blew dry my hair and I told her I was going to wear it like that for a few days before washing it again. I went to Vanetta or Vernetta. The first time I went, went well but the second time she didn't get to me a entire hour and 15 minutes after my appointment time. What bothered me the most was she didn't speak to me and let me know she was running behind. I simple "I'll be with you soon or I'm sorry I'm running behind but I'll get to you". I asked should i come back and she tells me "I'll be starting you soon". Disappointed at the lack of customer service. Not impressed with her attitude or customer satisfaction. I typically come here bc it's an in and out process but who has time to sit for an hour??? To get an attitude in return? I won't be returning to this location because of her. read more

Had an appointment for 5:30, waited until about 5:50, when I overheard the stylist that was booked to cut my hair say that she was off at 6:00. She didn't want to cut my hair, so I left. Hope you got off in time to do whatever you needed to do. Perhaps you shouldn't be scheduling appointments when your staffing levels go down. I'm so frustrated. A woman here completely botched my undercut and shaved off multiple uneven chunks of hair on the back of my head. I can't even wear my hair up now. This is the simplest of trims and she managed to ruin my entire haircut within seconds. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration while you still can. Don't come here, ever. read more

I never write reviews but this experience was not pleasing. Since moving in RVA I have yet to find a good salon for men but this one was even worse. Just like everyone else in reviews I got my stylist change after waiting for 15mins. The stylist even though booking online was having lunch. She didnt have any other appointments before and after still she chose to go for lunch when it was her appointment. I selected the top stylist available there. The stylist I got was junior and she butchered my hair cut. I have medium long hair and I want to keep that way, just cleanup with keeping length. I even showed her picture of exact length hair. She cut my hair all uneven. Especially on back the left side length is short and right side long, making a visible slope even with low curls, from left to right. I didn't notice that at first with wet hair in salon after washing, and I was walking around like that for two days. Right before going out for New years eve I saw that and had to cut by myself to level it. In fact after washing my hair, she did another touch up and then left hair wet. I had to ask her can I get a towel because its dripping. Then she used hairdryer to dry out my hair which took almost 10mins because of course hair were dripping wet. I even gave her 30% tip because I know how hard has it been during pandemic. But this is ridiculous service..! I don't think corporate office cares about customers even after so many bad reviews. read more

I tried 3 times to get my hair washed and cut in the past month. I was told twice to "come back later, we're too busy" and the 3rd time, at 8:15pm, the manager said she didn't know where the other stylist was, that she had "stepped out" and that she herself wouldn't cut my hair because she wanted to eat her dinner before they closed.... read more

I popped in this salon while traveling. I made an appointment with Jasmine. When I arrived at the shop I was promptly greeted and checked in. My appointment time was on schedule. This review mainly centers around Jasmine. The shop was clean. But Jasmine was the real star! She was very kind, knowledgeable, and professional. She provided me with a great cut, shampoo, and style. She guided to try a new product - but no push to buy. Overall her service was excellent! I would recommend going to the salon and make an appointment with Jasmine! read more

This shop has terrible customer service. The ladies working there were really rude and our hair dresser actually put headphones in while she was cutting my daughter's hair. We left with my daughter's hair being EXTREMELY lopsided. It was about 2-3 inches shorter on one side. read more

Went to get a shampoo and blow dry. I was told that the wait would be 45 minutes. I returned 45 minutes later. I was told that there would be several stylists finishing up within the next 45 minutes. I was not greeted upon my return to the store. I waited an additional 10 minutes and asked the person who checked me in initially (who I assume is a manager) if I could be seen. She pointed to a stylist who would be finishing up in "a minute or two." I waited an additional 10 minutes. I spoke with the "manager." She said that they are short staffed. I'm pretty sure that the staffing did not change within the hour. I departed without getting a shampoo or blow dry. read more

They said it would be an hour wait, which is reasonable so we told them we would be at the Starbucks next door, (literally the next store beside them), we then came in after an hour. The lady who had checked us in told us that it would be another twenty minutes because of a person just going to her chair. We were right outside. This is completely unprofessional. She knew we were right beside them. This is highly irritating. They seemed nice when we came in, but due to previous reviews, "20 minutes" will most likely turn into another hour. This is unprofessional and ridiculous. They should have called us. They took our number and told us that they WOULD call when they had a seat open. I am very annoyed and disappointed. Haven't even gotten my hair done yet, this seems like a good waste of a nice day and a nice afternoon. read more

I made an appointment and took my three grandkids( ages 12,10 and 7) to get haircuts. I asked one of the stylists if she was vaccinated and she said no so I said would you mind wearing a mask and she said she did mind and refused. 2 of the kids are too young to be vaccinated and we also had a newborn with us. The oldest (12) has one shot and the stylist cutting her hair was vaccinated so we proceeded with that haircut which was great but we all had to wait outside in the heat because Vanetta (The other stylist in the salon) REFUSED to put on a mask.Obviosly we cancelled the other two appointments. She wouldn't do the bare minimum to make us feel safe sited her choice to not wear a mask even though I asked her politely. honestly I was shocked and while I was complaining after we paid to the stylist who did a great job Vanetta screamed across the salon, Mind your Business and her manager came out siting Hippa laws which we know does not in any way apply to this situation. Anyway,despite the sign on the doo, Hair Cuttery does not care about the health and safety of their customers if they wouldn't even do this one small thing during a pandemic to make a client feel safe. read more

This Hair Cuttery location opened last year, and for the most part, I've been a fan. I have short, thick, blonde hair and normally go to Sheyenne or Michelle (master stylists) to cut my hair. Today; however, neither was available and I made the HORRIBLE decision to let someone else have a try. Though the girl tried hard, she really, really messed up my hair. The worst part was I was sitting across from Sheyenne and she and her client could see it all happening and were visibly appalled. When the girl had finished (as she decided.. without asking me what I thought), she removed the cape and shook hair all over me. So not only was I humiliated by my bad haircut, but then I got covered head to toe in clippings. Normally, I am not the kind of person to complain, but after paying and tipping the girl, I sat in my car and nearly cried after looking in the rearview mirror. For the first time in my life, I walked back in the salon and asked for my usual girl to please fix my hair. I was told to leave a message and hope that someone calls me back. .....I don't think anyone will ever call back. Please, PLEASE do not go there unless you are just getting a buzzcut. :'( read more

I've always had extremely good experiences at this location, good haircuts, friendly staff. I was excited to have found such a gem of a place. I tried the online check in tool today, because it was a Saturday and I knew there would be a wait. The site told me to arrive by 3:41 and that I may have a wait. So, I arrived at 3:38pm and was ready to wait. The stylists were busy, I sat down and then when I thought one of the stylists was just going to greet me, I said I checked in online. She became extremely angry with me and told me I was late. That now there were several people ahead of me and did this loudly in front of everyone in the shop. I was shocked, embarrassed and felt attacked. I do not know what I did to upset the girl. I told her I'd just leave because of her attitude and the issue that was obviously upsetting her. I'm so disappointed. I did not expect to be seen immediately, did not act in a rude or impatient manner and have no idea why she would be taking her frustration out on me.
