Brianne was very friendly and has great customer service skills - she was very detail oriented and cut my hair exactly as I requested. Yelena did a great job on my cut. She was very kind and asked me at various points if I was fine with the length, style, etc. My hesitation to give 5 stars is nothing to do with Yelena. I got my hair cut to just slightly below my shoulders yet I was charged an additional $13 fee for a "long hair" blowout. Huh? Since when is shoulder length hair considered to be long? I wish I was told up front that this fee would be added because I would've decided not to get the blowout at all. Beware short hair girlies!!! Just not worth it! read more

Today I got my hair done by Krystal F, she did an amazing job correcting the job someone had previously done when they put my hair too dark. I don't normally write reviews but I felt I needed to today. My mother, who is in her 80's, suffering from dementia as well as profound hearing loss, was in need of a haircut and color. She normally goes to an 'upscale' salon in Highland Park but was having difficulty remembering her scheduled appointments due to her condition. I walked into Hair Cuttery today without an appointment and the most wonderful young woman took care of my mom. Her name is Ashley. She greeted us with a huge smile and warm handshake. I told her what my mom needed and asked her to please project her voice due to my mother's lack of ability to hear. Ashley could not have been sweeter. I also told Ashley that my mother who is very thin and frail is always cold and today was one of the coldest days of the year. She bundled my mother up in several gowns. She quickly whipped up a batch of the perfect hair color and got right to work. Ashley asked me questions about how my mom styled her hair so I showed her a bunch of pics of my mom. Ashley did a beautiful job styling her hair. Honestly, the color, cut and style look better than it does when my mom walks out of her fancy salon which costs literally twice the price. If Ashley decides to quit her career as a beautician, she would make one sensational nurse! She could not have given my mom more attention and care. My mom is looking forward to returning and is feeling beautiful. read more

This is all about the front desk person today, who also answers the phone and also cuts hair. When I called to see if they were busy, she said very rudely no, definitely not, and hung up. I was there 8 minutes, 45 seconds later and all 3 chairs were busy, and she said it would be hours before she could squeeze me in. Then she said I should have made an appointment. WHAT?? How about asking if I wanted an appointment on the phone. How about some customer service? She was also so negative and rude in person, she wouldn't even lift her head to look at me while we talked. She wanted nothing to do with me - like I was bothering and annoying her. After 4 years going there and 20 years overall at Hair Cuttery, I am done with them. She ruined Hair Cuttery for me. 20 minutes later I had a great haircut at a neighborhood salon, with a wonderful, personable person. I have found a new "place" and it was only $30. More than Hair Cuttery, but worth it for peace of mind. That Hair Cuttery woman needs to be fired. read more

Since my stylist for the last 20 years has moved on , I've been in search for a new one. I made an appointment for a haircut with someone for the first time, needless to say I won't be returning. My appt was scheduled for 6:30pm. I arrived about 6:25pm and the lady that was scheduled to cut my hair was just finishing up her previous appt. When she finished with the client, she cleaned up and went in the back for a minute. I sat down in the chair at 6:30 and she asked what I'd like and I explained. Now does anyone want to guess what time I was paying the bill?????? Well I swiped my card and signed my bill and it was 6:38pm. A whole 8 minutes was spent on me and that includes a cut and wash. Ok - I became a regular here of one of the stylists (I won't name names). Went there 3 times and never had an issue - but there was my gut telling me there is something just not right. So of course, my gut proved me right today. I am a man and a good tipper. I called my regular stylist and asked her if she is available. She asked me when do I want to come in. I said I can come in 10 minutes. She said - see you then. I arrive 15 min later, thanks to traffic. She tells me give me a few - I have to color this lady's hair. I said fine - thinking a few would mean at the most 10 min - since I made the appointment. Overhearing her gossip with the lady she was coloring - while I waited for 20 min - as if I had never showed up - kinda just didn't sit right with me. So I promptly told another stylist to let her know that I had to be somewhere (which I did) and left. I think they make more money on coloring ladies hair and in the end don't care about men. So gentlemen - if this type of treatment is your cup of tea - be my guest. Remember - time is money. I would rather spend more at another place that keeps their appointments. read more

I'm probably the pickiest person when it comes to my hair, when I walked into this salon, everyone greeted me very warm. my experience there was wonderful, my stylist knew exactly what she was doing. I also listened to the other stylists conversations with their clients, I would feel very comfortable going to any stylist there. But back to my stylist, she listened to what I wanted and gave me not only the best hair cut, but the best service. She also talked about maybe doing my hair color, which I've never done before, but I'm defiantly going to make an appointment soon to get this service done!! I've been getting my hair highlighted since I was 17. Have had it done by several different people with various levels of experience, and have always been told that my hair takes color easy and is pretty hard to mess up. Until I came to Hair Cuttery, apparently. I had several old coworkers who work at the Fridays next door who go there, so I decided to give them a chance because my new schedule made it hard to see the girl I usually go to. I called day of to schedule a time, and requested someone who was good with blonde hair. When I came in, Cecilia was my stylist. Long story short, my hair is a complete disaster. I told her I wanted some dimension so she did lowlights a shade darker than my natural hair color, and blonde. I even pointed to the stylist standing right next to us (I think she is a manager there) and said that that's how I want my hair. I ended up with streaky skunky highlights that looked almost yellow (I've always had white blonde) mixed in with chunky dark. I even told her I was confused at how she was doing my hair, because all the previous stylists I've had have weaved the color in, she took big chunks. By the way, this was not cheap, $157 for the color and then $30 tip. So a disaster for almost $200 bucks. So needless to say my hair ended up REALLY dark mixed with this ugly yellow, I went home, had a total panic attack, and went right back in the next day. The only reason this review is getting 2 stars instead of one is that she "fixed" it for free. This time around, she weaved the hair instead of doing chunks - since my hair literally ended up brown instead of blonde, so she had to do a bunch more light foils. The color is ugly and yellow and not even, and I am now trying to use Clairol Shimmer Lights Shampoo to get all the bronze and yellow out of my hair and bring back some blonde because I need to wait a bit to get this mess fixed so my hair doesn't fall out. I will never ever go here again, I am sure there are better stylists there than Cecilia but I'm really pissed about this entire experience and would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

After going to Mario Tricoci for years I decided to try a place that was a bit more reasonably priced. I've seen Laura 4 times now at this establishment, and I'm very glad I did. Not only does she cut my hair beautifully (I have long hair), she also helped me realize my hair was quite weak when I first came to her. I am definitely keeping this short. If your business hours say "open until 5pm," that means you take customers up until that time. You don't turn away a paying customer and say, "Im sorry we close in 15 minutes and all of us are busy." The assistant manager that works here needs to learn how to do her job (Second incident). Our family has been going to this hair cuttery for 6 years. We get exactly what we ask for. If a teeneger wants 1/4" trimmed, they will do it. If someone wants a new style, they give great advice. Went here a few times for style and blow dry. Cindy did a very nice job. I thought I would give them a try for a haircut. I had Laura. BIG MISTAKE! She isn't very experienced, she does not know how to cut hair and she doesn't listen to what you are telling her about your hair. Probably one of the WORST haircuts I've ever had. If you're looking for a good precision cut, don't look here. Not worth the trouble of having to grow your hair out to start over. In less than one week of getting this awful haircut, I had to go to a professional, reputable salon to get my hair REPAIRED. It was so badly over texturized and chopped up, it was completely unmanageable. It took an experienced professional over an hour to go through this cut and fix as much as possible. They were appalled that a so called stylist would ruin someone's hair like this. It will take months for my hair to fill in and grow out to where it was when I went in and asked for a trim and shaping! Stay away from here. There is a reason why Laura is working her and not a professional salon! HORRIBLE! read more
