Horrible experience at Charles Ifergan Deerfield. I just moved from the city and was looking for a cut/dry. I found a Groupon and they up-charged me significantly for long hair. The fine print says there may be an extra charge but I wasn't expecting $60+ dollars?! The customer service made me feel very uncomfortable...I mean, just look at the responses from the owner on the negative reviews. No accountability, just attacks on any negative feedback. I had a deep conditioning treatment, haircut and a blow out today. Martha was my stylist. I arrived little early to the salon. The front staff told me to change into a comfortable frock and took me around the tour of the salon and introduced me to Martha who looked at my hair, asked what I wanted, how much hair we were taking (Less than an inch in my case!! Or I will fall over!!) and handed me off to deep conditioning. My haircut was great. Martha asked me a lot of questions about my hair, my routine etc and gave me a lot of tips and tricks how to style my hair. She cut my hair while I was standing so we could see how it looks. I loved it!!! At the checkout the ladies gave me a little salon gift for coming in (hair spray and hairbrush) I loved it thank you. Most of all I love my haircut. My hair also feels so soft. I will try to follow Martha's routine suggestions and see her in 6-8 weeks! read more

I had friends who used to go to the Ifergan in the city, so when I saw a Groupon for this place, I figured why not?! The place has a very 70's feel, like it may have been hip at some point before I was old enough to get my hair cut. The staff was friendly enough, but they have this annoying thing where they walk you around and introduce you to everyone, including the salon manager who was in the middle of cutting someone's hair. The shampoo chairs were old and creaky, another throwback to the 70's. When I was taken to my stylists' chair, it was still covered in hair from the previous client, which I thought was gross. Then the stylist (Sara) had me stand up for 1/2 of my haircut, so she could "cut it evenly"...ok....that was a first for me. When I left, I liked the way my hair looked and I enjoyed my conversation with the stylist enough. But when I got home I looked at the back of my hair in a mirror and it is totally crooked! Needless to say, I won't be going back here. I thought it was going to be some swanky salon but it's really not all that. Especially at the rates they charge. read more

This place Rocks! I work down the street (but live downtown Chicago) and was looking for a Salon near work (convenience). I read a promotion on StyleChicago.com and had heard about Charles Ifergan from a coworker and thought I should check it out and take advantage of the promotion. I got a haircut with Nicole and she did an AMAZING job. I do have a stylist in downtown Chicago, but I was getting bored of him. I HIGHLY recommend making the trek to Deerfield (it's right off the Edens/Waukean (Rte 41) on Lake Cook Rd. I also highly recommend the Esthetician Marina to do your brows or brazilian. She does a great job for both! I want to get a facial from her next. She also does a great job with makeup too! The staff is so welcoming too! They are all very well trained in their specialties (they either cut or color). I haven't gotten color yet but I've seen the results of several colorists work and I'm very impressed with all of them. Bought a living social GIFT for Baliage hair cut. My daughter had to book twice since she got sick. She shows up, with her gift, and is told she has to pay an additional $70 since she has long hair. On Neither call food anyone suggest she would be charged anything else. Look at the pics, do you think that's acceptable to allow a gift purchase and to tell the person they should pay that amount. Look at their advertisement pic. I asked the manager when they would tell someone they had to pay an additional fee, she said " at the washing/ consult time". Requested refund from Living Socisl, but, it's past the time period. What a scam!! Will dispute if no refund. How dare that salon!! read more

I can only speak for one individual at Charles Ifergan and she is neither a colorist or a stylist. Her name is Marina, and she is the salon's esthetician. First of all, she is amazing with wax. I've been getting my eyebrows done by her for about 6 years now. She is the best I've ever been to, and I've been a lot of places. I refuse to go anywhere else and I will drive from wherever it is in the Chicagoland area to get there. She is wonderful, nice, knowledgeable and extremely talented. I have referred many people to her who have all been blown away. Who would have thought eyebrows are that important? It's like an art to her. She also gives one hell of a facial. Really really amazing. Nicole cut my hair, not only the way that I wanted it but it looks even better than I had imagined. She did long layers (I can't give up my length) and long bangs on me. It looks fantastic. They're really busy and packed in there (plus with traffice, I was 10 minutes late) so Kimora blow dried my hair and I really love how everything turned out. My recent blow out by Martha lasted me 6days.. YES.. 6! I used the Charles Ifergan dry shampoo and I was amazed by how long my do lasted (check out my pic collage that I posted for proof.. The first pic is right out of the salon on a Friday, 2nd pic was after 2 days, and last hair pic was right before I washed my hair the following Thursday night). For those of you fortunate enough to live close to Charles Ifergan in Deerfield, I encourage you to go see Martha and Lillianna! Since I first found Martha and Lillianna in 2005 I have held off getting my hair cut and colored until I was in Chicago which I have managed to do for the past 13 years, 2-3 times a year. Unfortunately, that will not be an option this time, before I MUST do something, I am trying once again to find someone in Arizona to get me by until I can see them again. As I search through Yelp in AZ and bemoan my inability to have Martha and Lillianna work their magic, I felt impelled to write an update. Gratitude is in order and those of you lucky enough to have them close by, should be aware. I have never had anything but the most excellent cut from Martha. Without fail, the cut is so specific to the way my hair works and bends that I always leave with a style that just keeps on working no matter how many different ways we go. I have encouraged every person that I know in the Chicago area to go see Martha (cut) and Lillianna (color) and they have become true believers as well. Martha's natural artistry and talent combined with years of experience and the ability to optimize each client's hair to suit that individual so specifically ( all the people I have referred had very different kinds of hair) is why she is so exceptional at her craft. With her skill she would be a destination stylist regardless of if she had zero personality. However, add in what an authentic,sweet and charming person she naturally is and you have a true gem! Equally,as a colorist, Lillianna also embodies the same level of skill in her expertise and she too is a joy to work with. I noted some Yelp clients mentioning the salon as dated. Worst customer experience ever . Worst salon experience ever. Went to the salon to get roots retouched ( full nightlights ) and I had Katie do my hair. I left the salon with BURNED hair that I didn't know was so bad since they dried my hair and made it all nice and soft . Two days later when I washed my hair at home I noticed how burned it was . I honestly thought my hair was about to fall off. I had long , beautiful hair and after my experience here I had to chop off 7 inches to get the burned parts out. I went from Lower back length hair to should length hair due to this experience . I do not recommend this salon and I definitely do not recommend Katie as Color girl. She shouldn't have kept my hair in the foil for long or re bleach my already bleach blonde hair. A waste of money , time , and nothing else but a headache. I had to waste even more money to go elsewhere for a haircut , and now I have to waste more money on hair masks . read more

From the minute I walked in and was greeted by the manager, I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly everyone was and how they expressed concern about my experience. I was assigned to Zara, who openly told me she was 22. I have just below shoulder length hair so I was thinking if it wasn't good, I would just wear it up for the next month. Recently visited the Deerfield location and it was an unpleasant experience. I was told that because I had dark hair it could not be lightened therefore couldn't get the color I anticipated. Proceeded to get my hair washed & it was the worse. Water in my ears, pulling rough with the brush to de tangle. Once I walked back to the station, Stylist was sitting on her phone oblivious to the fact that I had returned. The cut was ok but when she was drying my hair she would put the blow dryer to close to my scalp. She was rough with the brush and sprayed my face with hairspray while trying to style. Not worth the money. I don't recommend the Deerfield location at all! read more

This salon is my greatest escape! Everyone greets you as you walk in; Melissa (who does such a great job overseeing), Alicia and Zara. Michael and Vicky not only wash your hair but you get the best Brain massage on the planet! You don't want to get up from the washing bowl; you feel that relaxed... The salon is ALWAYS spotless even when it is busy. Lola is my colorist and she grounds me when I come up with suggestions that would probably have me look like Bozo!! She has an eye for what is the best color for your eyes and complexion and she is right!!! Love my color and she makes sure your hair is in great condition. I just let her do her thing without hesitation. Rosa is my hairstylist and love her too. She is honest about my suggestions. We decide as a team for my best look but I call her "my Boss" and I just know I'm in great hands... I trust whatever she does and love the outcome every time!! She is an artist! I don't like product in my hair and my hair comes out perfectly and stays for a week. I don't know how she does it?! Rachel is another hairstylist that is great! They have a nice coat room and separate stations for everything, so there is one girl who washed my hair and it seems like it is her only job - she was great. NEVER AGAIN This is a review for Brittany at Charles Ifergan, she is a colorist. She clearly should be let go. I went in to take care of my gray hair and to have some highlights done. She was friendly and since I dont know too much about hair I was happy when I left, then I realized she didn't colour my hair before applying highlights, so I have highlights and grey hair in the same strands, after a week they began to turn an ugly yellow colour... ugh. I went here as a first time client and expected to be WOWED instead I get something my daughter could have done herself with peroxide and a comb... When I came back to have it "fixed" I got a snooty attitude and all she did was touch up some spots where my gray was showing... is she stupid or what? Out of respect for the stylist who did my hair, I don't want to mention her name to get her in trouble. My father purchased a $125 gift card for me from Charles Ifergan so that I could get an ombre highlight service. My hair had a faded ombre already, but still visibly blondish. When I asked for an estimate of how much the ombre would cost, she told told $225 because of how much product they would need and how time consuming it is. My hair is down to my mid-back and thin. I told her that when my father had purchased the gift card, they advised it would be around $125. She told me she didn't know who told my father that--and that highlighting starts at $165. She also told me the stylist who had previously done my ombre at Charles Ifergan was severely undercharging and no longer worked there anymore. I asked what I could get for $165 and she said she could still do the ombre, but it wouldn't be drastic. I agreed. Long story short, I walked out of there with little to NO change on my hair. Since I opted out of having my hair styled, they have a blow dry bar where you can do it yourself. As I was done drying my hair, she asked how I liked it and I told her I didn't even see a change whatsoever and that it looked exactly the same as when I walked in. She walked away and I never saw her again. I went up to the counter to pay the $165 for a service that I didn't get, gave my tip in the envelope and then left. My family has been going here for years, and not once received such poor service as this. I live downtown but purposely come to the Deerfield salon location because of how long my family has been coming here. I won't be returning to Charles Ifergan ever again unfortunately and will let others know of my poor experience. I don't know if this stylist was just being cold intentionally because I was asking questions on the pricing or what, but she said literally 2 words to me the entire time she was working on my hair.
