If I could give no stars I would. I received the absolute WORST HAIRCUT of my adult life from Margaret at this salon. I physically SHOWED her how much I wanted cut off (an inch) and to only layer on the very bottom of my shoulder length+ hair. I now have layer chunks like she used a bowl as a guide. I have been visiting Catherine Johns regularly now for about 3 years and always feel welcome and cared for. Magda is my stylist and she always listens and is attentive to what I want. She is an expert in color and highlights and my friends have commented how great my hair looks. Everyone there is quite friendly. I find their prices to be be reasonable. read more

I've been going to this salon for hair cuts and color for a couple years now. I used to go to a high-priced salon run by a cosmetics giant, but after (1) my hair was dyed and turned brassy and (2) I was given for all intents and purposes a MULLET, a friend recommended Catherine Johns to me to help save my hair. I've been very satisfied. I like the Aveda products they use, and Kathy is always very good at doing my hair (even when I temporarily freak out about "how short" it is - it takes me about a day to get used to stuff!). Coming from that high priced hoity toity place, I never felt like the stylist actually listened to what I want. (Bunch of airheads!) I never have that concern at Catherine Johns. My mom suffers from Alzheimer's and has a long history of missing appointments, being late and having to reschedule for various last minute medical appointments. She also has some radiation burns on her scalp that other salons found off-putting and refused service, and I can't blame them. The ladies at Catherine Johns are so understanding and treat her so well that I am thankful that that are around. They make mom happy and my life a little easier. read more

Don't be late! I called ahead and was told it was not a problem. My child had her hair done here for homecoming it was over teased, sprayed and looked like a rat's nest when it was done and to make it worse we was charged $57 for the mess. I had to take her to another salon (ULTA) and it took three people to clean up the mess and make her look beautiful! I was very surprised because in the past several years there was never any issues, I was very pleased. And considering that I have spent my money here for 8 years I expected better service and treatment. read more

I came in to Catherine's to donate my hair to Children with Hair Loss and I was super nervous since I had a horrible experience last time I went to a salon so I was just growing out my hair and trimming it myself. But I wanted to final find a place that donates to a non profit and I chose Cathrines since I saw good reviews. And omg am I glad I listened to those reviews! Everyone there, including customers, were super friendly! Kathy was the one that was cutting my hair and she did an amazing job and was super comforting. I've been going here for 5 years and am so happy to say that I've found a salon that always goes above and beyond to make sure you are satisfied. The stylists have lots of experience with both cut and color. I always get compliments on my highlights. My hair grows out nicely too, which is a plus in between visits. The salon is well kept, stylish, and clean. The workers are all so sweet and the salon vibe is very friendly. Jackie is an excellent stylist! I do not trust another soul with my haircuts. I have very fine hair, but a ton of it, so every cut a stylist makes shows 10 fold... She provides phenomenal cuts every time, even with my cowlicks! Not only that, but her colors are to die for. I always come with drastic ideas for colors, and she takes them in stride. Not only does she spend time to understand my vision, but she plans out each stage of color necessary to reach my goal. Love Catherine Johns! My daughter and I get cut & color here, and we love Nancy, who does manicures. They are friendly and welcoming, and the location is great for where we live. As an example of how wonderful Joanne is (the owner) - she opened the shop on a Monday night so that my son could have his head shaved with no one around. He had just started chemo, and it was beginning to fall out; it was very emotional. She made it a memorable occasion. read more

I had an appointment today for a color, cut, and blow dry. The salon and stylist were referred by a friend. I drive daily meeting with clients in their homes, and enter the address in my GPS for directions. It's only problematic if the address is incorrect. On the Google website the salon's address is on the far south end of South Elmhurst Road when in actuality it's located on the far north end of North Elmhurst Road. I was in heavy rush hour traffic and after a few phone calls in which I was curtly blamed for not initially asking for directions, and finally being told they couldn't accommodate me today as it was too late, I never found it. It was their fault as the woman acknowledged so many others do the same thing, but they are unable to change the south to north on the website. One woman gave me an address for Lou Malnatti's saying I would see the salon. I never found either one. It may all have been a blessing because if this is their attitude to their own acknowledged mistake, I would hate to be in a position to critique any work they may have done. Added later: I looked this up on my phone map. This salon is very easy to locate IF the woman on the phone doesn't tell you it's at Randhurst; it isn't. All she needed to say is Elmhurst Road, just north of Euclid. Bottom line: Very poor customer service. read more
