It was quickly dried and styled in center or side parts, with lots of volume, lift and swing. Elegant and easy. Derek said he couldn't understand me. I should have left immediately. What I have now is an inexplicable cut, 2-5 " off, barely chin length, huge amounts of hair removed, wispy layers everywhere, and texturizing. He has activated a mass of waves and curls never seen before. From the front, the shape is a cartoonish wide diamond. From the sides, a fat wedge. This is the opposite of what is required for copious, European, fine, porous hair with a nape curl and minimal wave. Derek basically has created a White girl Afro. He somehow dried it beautifully, disguising the weird architectural structure by using a tiny brush on myriad narrow strands, drying them straight, and contorting them via elaborate manual sculpting techniques, product and nearly an hour of work. Maybe he planned to do twice-weekly blowdries on it. I have spent many days and dollars elsewhere experimenting with product, techniques and professional advice while attempting to cope. Derek pleasantly refunded the charges and apologized for the "inconvenience." This is far worse than inconvenient.

I travel 40 minutes one way, just to have him cut my hair, and I'll continue to do so as long as he's a hairdresser. When I chose to let my hair grow from a pixie cut, he did a beautiful job to help me grow it out gracefully and cute at every stage (a nearly impossible feat). He has his own space at Mattison Avenue salons in Richardson, so it's a bit more of an intimate space, but I love it and all the beautiful plants he takes care of by a large glass window with lots of natural light. For me, as many people have experienced in the past....stylists who have done the complete opposite leaving you with damaged hair, horrible coloring that's been done and of course the amount of time it takes for your hair to repair itself let alone, leaving you to have trust issues and giving your trust in another stylist. I had a stylist that I had been working with for years...and trust me he was quite spendy, but Melissa.... There are not enough words to describe how much of a Godsend Melissa is...so let me try. She is an absolute professional, I have spent hundreds upon hundreds to get my hair done but she is better than any stylist I have ever worked with. She's attentive to your wants and needs but she will be honest and upfront with you because she wants you as a lifelong client. She takes the condition of your hair and will tell you in order to get it to this color, this is what is going to happen. She will NOT put herself to damage your hair. That's where the saying "patience is a virtue" comes into play. I absolutely admire her honesty and professionalism. I have coarse Asian hair that has some coloring on already, purple, and I wanted to go to full silver/gray balayage. Okay folks, my last hair stylist was a master blonder, and after 5-6 sessions with her I still ended up with meh blonding results, not light or near where I wanted to go. I got fed up n dumped purple over it. Anyways, John was able to strip all that and lighten my hair to the lightest shade possible that you can do in one day (mind you, he used the strongest lightener known to man). My hair ended up NOT brittle or melted, it was perfect after toner was added and this ash is the closest I've ever been to silver!! I bet another session will take me exactly where I want. Being new to Dallas I had no idea who to go to and decided to yelp it. Found JT hair lab and after going through the reviews I decided to come to her. Couldn't be happier! Jenny was so throughout and professional. She evaluated my hair and gave me step by step procedure how she would fix it and bring it to where I would want it. I didn't expect to make it happen in one try (the before picture would explain why) - but she made it happen !!!! And she always inform you before she goes into the next step. We spent 7hrs and the result is amazing. After all that my hair still healthy, smooth and shiny.
