Had my hair cut multiple times there, and colored once, which was more than enough. My hair color process was skimpy and turned out UNEVEN and DARKER on one side. Went back for a "redo" of the cut within the week. Pressured me to book a follow up appointment for 6wks, but I refused. I let my hair grow out several weeks then I made another appointment to give her another try.... I was asked "Why didn't you return sooner"? Ended up having to request another "redo" within that week as my hair was seriously UNEVEN and UNBALANCED and looked obviously wanky on the one side.See photo! After pointing out the unevenness she focused on chopping on one side of my hair, the right side primarily, Thinning, chopping and filleting to nothing. The sides still UNEVEN. I'm so done with this place! Never again! read more

I had my hair done by Mikayla and she did an astounding job! I haven't been so excited to show off my hair before seeing her! I showed her an idea of what I was looking for and she tailored that to my hair type and lifestyle, including the cut. My hair has always been tricky to work with and I was never really satisfied at other places. Plus with having kids now it's extremely hard for me to keep up with anything high maintenance. I am adding to my first review, 3/29/22. Upon reconditioning my hair on 3/30/22, I found that Cortney on 3/28/22, did NOT color correct all of my hair. Leaving the back only partially color corrected. This I believe was on purpose, therefore asking salon owner, D' Ann B. for a refund to be given to me for this service. Waiting to hear back from D'Ann B. for a second time. This was in NO WAY a Professional job. VERY disappointed with the follow-up from owner, D'Ann B. I needed some time to clear my head and realize what had just happened to my hair but I am writing this review 1 WEEK since I had my hair done by Kuja. I only washed hair twice before anyone says anything about hair fading! It's not faded! I had a hair color and haircut appointment with Kuja. Before making an appointment I consulted with her on what I wanted to get done on facebook. I originally asked to lift my base to a level 5, with a blonde babylights balayage ombre (picture below) with long layers/trim. She told me that she would be able to achieve my desired goal so I agreed to choose her as my stylist. They charge $88 base pay + $18 additional bowls of color/bleach. Little did I know we were going to use 12 bowls! Spent $336 + tip. If i had known I would have gone to a more experienced stylist for the same price! Had to go in twice because she didn't schedule us enough time for her to finish toning/cutting my hair (Booked me at 6 pm, told me they close at 9 pm the day I come in, unprofessional!) Even then the bleaching process wasn't done properly. I told her numerous times that my hair was lightened and then has multiple previous black/brown box dye over it but she proceeded to use color on my scalp to attempt to lift my base (Need to use bleach to lift color/black hair in general). Which in the end it didn't even work. Probably used 5-6 bowls of color on my scalp in total which is about $108 wasted that didn't even lift my base (left scalp irritated for days). Other 6 bowls of bleach didn't lift my hair evenly and she didn't go back in to check the mids of my hair. Before I knew it she tried to tone everything down hoping it would cover up and curled everything so the flaws weren't noticeable. But I told her prior that my hair is SLICK STRAIGHT (and i wear it straight mostly) and I would need a very blended look. But in the end this is what I got. Don't get me wrong, Kuja is a nice person but if you couldn't get me to my desired look, please let your clients know so they can choose a more experienced stylist! Can't believe I walked out of the salon like this and she didn't care to fix it even though I didn't realize. I would like a REFUND so I can go get my hair fixed from someone more experienced please!!!! read more

I had a very traumatic experience with hair expressions and in particular with their artist Kelly. My friend had recommended them to me so I decided to try it out. I know quite a bit about hair as my sister in law is a professional in Downtown Minneapolis and cuts/colors hair in a high end salon, and did my own hair for many years. I was specific in my request for light caramel balayage pieces into my dark hair, and in no way did I want an all over color change. Kelly decided to cut off a piece of my hair for a color test strip without my permission, which did not start us off on the right foot and I should have left in that moment. She then proceeded to take matters into her own hands. After my hair color had processed they washed my hair out and told me to not be afraid when I looked in the mirror. This was the result. The manager called me back the next morning per my request and yelled at me into the phone, making my already emotional experience even worse. She told me she will always stand by her experienced artists and that I didn't know what I was talking about. I was traumatized from this experience walking away with extremely damaged orange hair. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Zero stars if i could. I made an appointment with Ash two weeks ago. I got a call asking to confirm it with a different random stylist. I declined said appointment, because I didn't schedule that, then rescheduled with Ash at the soonest she could (two weeks later). I go to my appointment to which I am 10 minutes late, traffic, however they call me as i'm arriving saying that Ash needs to cancel because it will push back her other clients. Sure, I understand that's fine. Then I get a charge on my card for $46 when THEY CANCELLED ON ME. I call immediately to get a refund to which they reply "We do this when there's a cancellation within 24 hours, or if you're late 20 minutes." OK I was neither of those. Ridiculously unprofessional way to run a business. Do yourself a favor and don't bother, there are much more professional salons in the twin cities. read more

This is a difficult review to write because the stylists and employees are super nice here and have the best intentions. I have been to Hair Expressions several times and would walk away feeling happy for the change of hair/style/color, but then would come to my senses and realize it was not what I asked for. I think it took a while for the reality to set in because I was lulled by their friendliness. A few times were successful, as I went in quick and easy trims. Otherwise, I think the photos I've uploaded will mostly speak for themselves, comparing what I asked for and what I got. Again, these stylists are soooo nice. But beyond their kind smiles, I am getting flashbacks of a time where it took almost 4hours to color my hair, and it was through dinner-time so I was hangry as hell. And then the color washed out pretty quickly. Or another time of cutting my long hair into an asymmetric bob - I gave her a photo of the bob I wanted which was long on one side, but it came out way too short. Recently, I asked for a red/purple deep wine color, and got a bright magenta, which was fun, but totally the wrong color and washed out after two shampoos. My hair is actually now way over-processed so it can no longer hold color, even when I treat it with protein fillers and other treatments. I found the services to be expensive, though I am not super fancy on the regular and have been satisfied with spending $12 at Sally's to mix my own color, so anything above $150 is spendy for me. I kept going back because it was at a convenient location and I wanted to keep giving them another chance. Or because I'm a glutton for punishment. read more

I went in for a simple trim. I have spent the last 5 years growing out my layers in the back of my head and last year had a bunch cut so that it would be one length. I only had layers in the front of my head. I try really hard to keep my hair healthy because it is fine and I don't like to use heat etc. The stylist told me that she thought "point snipping" was best for me.. She cut off a small amount about 1/2 inch. I said that should be fine. She went on to pulling up chunks of hair and cutting in a down angle. I was a bit nervous because it looked like she was cutting down into the back of my hair. She assured me it was ok. I left with my hair slightly damp because she said she didn't want to dry it to help moisturize, which I was fine with. When I got home I saw layers up to 3 inches all across the back of my head. the layers around my face are completely different lengths, huge choppy chunks. The long part of my hair is very thin now. My hair is ruined. I am very sad. I have to go now to a different salon to have it fixed. I will have to get more cut. I am really disappointed. I did upload a pic if you would like to see on yelp. MORAL OF STORY: Be very clear what you want at this salon. Also if you don't understand a stylist term such as "point clipping" ask for specifics and clear definition so you know what it is about. I've been going to Hair Expressions for about a year now. A friend of mine has been going there for many, many years and she recommended it. I was scheduled with Ari, who I immediately liked. She's very sweet and really listens to what I want done. Don't be fooled by her age...she's young but really knows what she's doing. Before she starts to do my color or haircut, she repeats back to me what I said to make sure there's no miscommunication. Every time I leave the salon, I'm always happy with the results and as the other reviewers said, everyone there is SO friendly and accommodating. I don't know who the other reviewers saw when they went to Hair Expressions, but I recommend Ari to friends all the time...I would never do that if I didn't trust the person who was doing my hair. Also, the salon always has some fun sales going on...for the Super Bowl, they had everyone pick a paper football out of a bowl...each one was marked with a discount for either a product or a service. They also had a holiday open house with games where you could win product or services, plus some sweets and beverages. read more

After waiting for this salon to reopen due to Covid, I had two monthly appointments in a row booked incorrectly. The first one was double booked and the second on the wrong day. Instead of helping me rebook and apologizing, the person who answered the phone insisted that I must have made a mistake, even when I told her that I had a medical appointment that day and wouldn't have made the error. Still, I tried to rebook and I was told my stylist didn't have an opening for weeks. I recommended this salon to a friend who also had her booking messed up. No matter how good a stylist is, if the support staff is poor, the experience isn't worth the hassle. read more

The staff and all of the ladies were incredibly nice, even offered me drinks at the beginning! I have to give a 2 though. It makes me sad to give only a 2 to such nice people but if you are a guy and have long hair, I wouldn't recommend Jenn. She's an incredibly sweet lady but she gave me probably one of the worst haircuts I've ever had, and she charged a pretty good amount for it. I had been growing out my hair for 2 years and I loved it. I showed her a picture of a guy with decently long hair, and I even told her to keep it a little longer than the picture. I ended up with probably the weirdest haircut I've ever gotten and it was no where close to the picture I showed her and was probably 1-2 inches shorter than the picture I showed her. It almost seemed like she thought she knew what I needed instead of just giving me what I wanted. She's an awesome lady, but I'm just really bummed that now I have to grow it back out with a haircut I don't even like. I just had my first appointment with Kelly at Hair Expressions last week. She...was... AWESOME! I brought in a challenge with my hair recently getting a horrible haircut elsewhere. Kelly was great to work with! She spent about 10 minutes at the beginning of the appointment talking through options we had to fix my haircut as well as recommending which color for highlight foils. I cannot say enough about how much I love what she did! My layers are perfectly blended, with beautiful highlights! I am excited I have found my go-to hair place, finally! I have been client of Hair Expressions for well over 15 years and cannot rave enough about the incredible team of stylists. Top notch at everything..haircuts, styling, color, make-up, nails, and those special occasion dos. When my son got engaged the first thing I said to his bride to be is you should have your bridal party get their hair and make-up done at Hair Expressions. Each of them teamed up with a different stylist and the results were breathtaking. They use Mirabella make-up and with the 92 degree heat and high humidity not one of them showed any sign of their make-up wilting and they were outside for pictures for over two hours. Everyone had a fresh and natural look. Guests commented how amazing everyone looked. Thank you Hair Expressions for your creative talent! They recently started offering eyelash extensions so I jumped at the chance to get them! Everyone at the salon is extremely courteous and kind... Which is why I feel terrible for writing this review. I'm going to be as honest as possible. It is VERY clear that there needs to be more training/experience prior to rolling out a new service if they expect to get good reviews. I did not have a positive experience: the beautician would get glue stuck to my other lashes when applying the false ones so when she pulled the tweezers away, they would snag and painfully pluck at my natural lashline. The execution was clumsy overall, and at one point, her hand slipped and DROPPED the tweezer on my eyelid!! The whole process was extremely painful, but I felt like I couldn't say anything because she had just finished the left and had my right eye hostage. I couldn't take the risk of leaving my other eye like that, so I awkwardly endured another round of accidental pricking and snagging until it was finally over. The results are oooookay, but not remarkable enough to justify the price. There are also very noticeable gaps in the lash line where it was sparsely applied. This beautician clearly needs more practice before charging customers. I understand that you have to start somewhere, but I regret ending up as a guinea pig. read more

Rhonda listens to my requests, views my Pinterest ideas and we talk about what is going to fit my daily routine. Not impressed at all. The gal was super nice - spent time listening to me and what I wanted, and discussing options. Unfortunately the results were not as expected and it was no better than going to a low end walk-in type of hair cut place. Way Way over priced for the service- double what I have paid before ( couldn't get in on a Sunday ). My color did not turn out at all as expected by me or my stylist, the waxing might have no even happened for the out come of those results, but the cut was cute, the salon was nice and clean. It is easy to write a review for these kind hearted staff. You can tell they treat each other like family and welcome you in as if you are apart of the gang. Lorraine and Jenny have taken extra care of my damaged and dry hair since the beginning. They have done my wedding hair, helped me through changes in my hair with one (and now going on) two pregnancies.
