Still going to see Ken 9 years later. Always does a great job and I have referred him to several people who all like him. One of his best qualities is that he is straight up honest & unfiltered. He will tell you if something isn't going to look good on your face shape or why something might not work for you and try and work around it so that will look best for your face, rather than just cut your hair and have you hate it. Every person I have referred loves him and I will keep referring him out. Wish you can give 0 stars on Yelp. I called up to schedule appointment and mentioned that I will be using Groupon for haricut, Ken on the phone asked that have you visited this salon before. I mentioned that I visited over an year ago, he said then you cannot use Groupon and you will have to pay full price. I said but Groupon's fine print says that it is not valid for active clients in last 12 months and I had visited over an year ago. Ken was very rude and said that you will have pay full price if you make an appointment for haircut. I asked why don't you adhere to terms mentioned on Groupon, he arrogantly said that "Why do you INDIANS can't pay full price if you like my services and use third party to get better deal ? You can go ahead and cancel Groupon if you would like." Either stick to terms mentioned on Groupon or make an effort to change fine print on Groupon. I have been trying to find a new place to get my hair done ever since my stylist moved. I've been using Groupons and I had a Groupon for this place so I thought I'd give it a shot. I didn't really need a haircut (which is what the Groupon was for) so I emailed and asked if I could use the Groupon towards a partial foil instead. Ken emailed me back (the owner?) and told me I could have $20 off the foil (the price I paid for the Groupon). I made my appointment for my partial foil. The stylist I had did an okay job. A little too blond for my tastes, but not awful. She then asked if she could "clean up the ends" so I said yes, after making it very clear at the beginning of the process that I did NOT want a cut. I'm trying to grow out my hair. When I went to pay, Ken charged me for the full price of the foil. I reminded him of the email about getting $20 off for the Groupon and he said the Groupon paid for my cut. I said I didn't have a cut--only a trim and looked over at my stylist. She pretended not to hear the conversation and didn't say a word. I was pissed. I went on my way and will not return. I've come here twice to get my hair done. First, I had Martha and she was super nice and really friendly and did a great job on my hair (just a trim and styling from a Groupon I purchased). I came here for a second time with another Groupon in hand and got my hair partially-foiled (with some red color) and a styling done by Ken. The color was good, but he didn't get all the way to my roots so it looked like the color had already grown out. Overall, the stylists are very nice, but the prices are way too high for what they offer. This is for the Groupon deal for women's ways/cut/style. So, when I saw all the reviews, I immediately regretted buying the Groupon, but guess what. I loved my haircut. Isn't that all that matters in the end? Yes, for the location, the salon does seem a little shabby. But Ken did a wonderful job on my haircut. Honestly, I have very thick, frizzy Asian hair that isn't easily tamed. I've had previous experienced stylists find it impossible to produce what I want: layers to frame my face, nice bangs and reduce the look of my hair volume. Ken may seem a little removed when he's working on your hair, but he sure does a good job with it. Don't get off-put by the atmosphere. Objectively, haircut alone, I'd return. He does a really good job. And no, I didn't get paid/asked for the review. Update: I recently moved to NJ and have visited some nice salons out here for haircut jobs and it does not live up to the job Ken did. He really did a fantastic job. This review is mainly "hairdresser specific" (Scott) ... the salon is like any of a multitude of salons. No frills, really, which is fine by me. There are some chairs at the front for a waiting area and it looked like maybe a jar of peanuts randomly placed for your snacking needs? I didn't partake. I was greeted by my stylist and interacted only with him so I can't speak to much else. I'll just give ya the brass tacks: Scott is an outgoing young man with a great disposition who treats hair styling (and washing!) like an art form. Bought a Groupon to get my hair cut. I told owner I was trying to grow out my hair and just wanted a trim. Let him know I have layers that need to be trimmed but want to keep the length. Next thing you know. I seen him cutting off a good inch and a half or so. So I'm not very happy about it. He always trimmed by bangs and now I have to keep them pinned up until they grow back out. They weren't straight or even. I told him one side was thinner than the other and that I'd like the other side thinned. Well he thinned the already thin side even more. I don't understand why there are so many negative reviews of this place! Ken has been cutting my hair for several years now and I've always been so happy with the results. I even make it a point to drive half an hour to see him instead of going to a hairstylist closer by my home. I am extremely disappointed and upset with my encounter with the owner of this salon. Not only did he try to swindle more money out of me, he refused to comply to my needs and refused to do my hair. I've been to this salon twice, going again soon. My teenage daughter, who is VERY picky about her hair was finally happy with her haircut and style. Annelise is the stylist we see and she is great. Good experience! I have visited the place just once for a hair cut and i had a pretty good experience! I hadn't seen great reviews of this place. However I had a 20$ groupon for haircut, shampoo and blow dry. So, I decided to try this place on a weekend. The place surely doesn't boast of good interiors or ambiance. But it is clean. My stylist was Linda. She wasn't very fluent in English, but very patiently listened to what I had to say and cut my hair accordingly. I was really happy with my haircut! Ordinary haircut experience. I bought the groupon because my previous stylist moved and since then I've not been able to find a stylist I like in Bellevue/Kirkland area. But I have to fairly said that Ken did show dedication to doing his job as I watched it all the way: he was focused and concentrated working on my hair and tried explained to me what he thinks is good on me. However, I've told him in the beginning that I don't like my current bang and want a change. In the end, bang is the same and he start explaining " oh because your hair......bla bla". I hate hearing that when stylist defense his work to customer's hair integrity. I've experienced the same situation last year from another salon, they always showed me the hair style he will be working on me and in the end start explain it does not work BECAUSE MY HAIR IS.....bla bla bla. I don't normally write reviews. But after reading some of the negative things said about this place I felt compelled to share my delightful experience! I just want to say that Ken truly is an artist. He takes his time to listen to what you want, asks the right questions to make sure you're on the same page and then gracefully creates the look you desire with expert technique and attention to detail. Sure the salon itself isn't made of marble and platted with gold, but you're also not paying the outrageous prices for something so meaningless. I can say however the atmosphere was very bright, clean and comfortable, the chairs against the sinks do in fact lean back and the products that were used made my hair glisten on my way out the door... He even gave me the Groupon deal even though I didn't technically buy it and yes there is a $2 tax, but we do live in WA folks and for the work he put into my look it was WELL worth the extra couple of bucks! I really wanted to cry after looking at myself in the mirror.. My hair were totally opposite of my expectations. One side little longer than other side, on top of it, my hair looks uneven and also too short.. Hi, I live in k Kirkland and never have tried this salon before. Never will go again. Hair cut was OK, after I pointed out the defects and Ken ( the owner) fixed his laziness... When I went to pay him, I verified the price then asked him if he would rather that I pay via credit card or cash. He opted for cash due to credit card companies taking 3% of the transaction. I complied. That was my misstake. I should never have asked him. Instead I should have paid via credit card. What happened next? Here goes... I put cash on the counter, which was 30% more than the price of the service. He did nothing. I looked at him, waiting for my change -- so that I could express my gratitude for his service. He did not go to the cash register to ring up the transaction. He just looked at me. I re-verified the price. He did not respond. He just looked at me. OK, this was weird. I waited a couple more minutes. No attempt on his part to return the overage to me. I realized he was not going to give me change, period. He was keeping all of the money, and was not going to ring up, the transaction -- i suppose so that there was nothing to declare to the state for cash transactions. Dishonesty... Plus, he was taking the overage as a tip. Period! Dishonesty, again. I am a good tipper, but, sheez! So. I left feeling ripped off and resentful that I could not to him to show gratitude. It was obvious that this is his standard way of doing business. He has been offering coupons to get people to buy his services - it's obvious to me why he needs to do this. He has been in this location for 7 years, but has not built up a customer base that is adequate for his needs. It's not a surprise to me. His dishonesty is causing his business to fail to thrive. He is not a bad hair cutter. Change his need to be a thief, he could do really great. I went to this salon which just opened recently in the same place that Marc Zanetto (Aveda) occupied. I had a coupon from a local newspaper and since I've been dissatisfied with places I've been to recently, I tried here. The owner Ken has 15 years experience, grad of Gene Juarez and Pivot Pt Academy and I still say so what! I waited a 1/2 hour because the appt. before me took longer. He was shamelessly flirting with this girl he had given highlights (white blonde on light blonde hair?). I explained what I wanted but he had his own idea and ignored me. He was so busy posturing and spouting his experience that he just didn't listen at all. That annoyed me. The haircut is OK not great. So good luck to him in the every crowded world of hair salons in DT Kirkland. I'm going to try the barbershop around the corner that was hopping with people. First time ever that I have not left a tip for a haircut. Went during lunchtime in a busienss suit. The place was empty. Had a groupon, but they continued to try to rush me through & not honor the wash cut style that was part of the deal. They first tried to just dry-cut. I pointed out the groupon included a wash. The chairs were so old thye did not lean back, I had to physically move and adjust to get my head over the bowl. The place felt dirty to me -- the term "spa" is laughable. The water was freezing and I complained. Then she made it lukewarm. The equipment all looked bought from a 30 yo salon that went out of business -- even to the plastic apron draped around during the cut. The cut was horrible. She didn't even do my bangs! I asked if she was going to cut them & she said "oh I didnt' know you had bangs." Huh???? Then she started taking the wrap off as if she was done when my hair was still dripping wet. I reminded her that the groupon included a dry & style. She reluctantly blew it 1/2 dry, then said "ok done." I again complained, pointed out I was in a business suit & had to return to the office & was not about to go back with wet unstyled hair. She did not style it, but finished drying it. It was as if she was rushing me out the door --- yet there was not one other customer there. I would rate it zero stars if I could. Wow, after reading the negative posts here I wish I would have read them before buying a groupon to get a hair cut here. I just had such a horrible experience at this salon I was actually thankful for the long car ride home so I could simmer down. I printed a "this day only" groupon for a haircut, blowdry and style. It was quite a distance from where I live but I felt it was worth it since it was 50% off with the groupon. I have two little ones in diapers, so between formula and diapers I'm on a budget but in no way am I cheap. I always try to give repeat business to companies that offer groupons as well as tip the service peole off what the full price would have been. Because of my newborns crazy schedule I did not want to be tied down to an appointment time because I wanted to go when she was asleep so the babysitter would have no issues with her crying. All that being said I confirmed on the groupon AS WELL as Hair Factor's website that they accept walk-ins. I called my babysitter over when my baby fell asleep and headed out to Hair Factor. I live in Issaquah so with traffic and rain it took me a minute to get there. Once I was there I also noticed a sidewalk sign in front of the door that read "walkins welcome." I entered and a stylist stopped working with a customer to come over to the reception desk. I told him I had a Groupon for a haircut. He asked me if I had an appointment. I said no. He said I needed one. I said why does your website and sign outside your front door say "walk-ins welcome?" Ignoring the obvious he just kept repeating I needed an appointment. After an argument where I unfortunately did a poor job of keeping my cool he tried to tell me I needed an appointment because I was using a Groupon. I told him it said that no where on the groupon. He then told me to get my money back from Groupon. He was rude and unapologetic to me. I wish in retrospect I had not lost my cool because it made me look like I was in the wrong when I wasn't. I used their living social deal, for haircut, wash and style. They took me in even though i was 5 mins late which was good. The place smelled of cigarette smoke the whole time, and it lacked cleanliness throughout the studio. The person who did my haircut was fairly okay but it felt half-hearted. They charged me for styling my hair inspite of it being a part of the deal. They seem to use low grade products. I had to ask the stylist to use an appropriate product to protect my hair during styling. This flustered the stylist and was not sure what to do. After the cut the stylist did not even care to show me what it looked like, until asked. I was not happy with my experience and will not return to this salon. read more

I recently moved to the area and am looking for a good stylist. I tried this salon and it was the lady that works there. I wanted the back of my hear stacked and the sides to follow that line as long as I could clip the sides up. Well she claimed to have 20 years experience and couldn't get the hair cut right.
