Stay away. Period. I rarely write reviews, but feel done wrong and need to share with the community. Both our young daughters and my wife had lice. They opened by saying "how long do you want us to work on them?" My wife--having no idea, said "until they're gone." That was 3 hours at $100/hr. for the first and after treatments for the other two and products they demand you buy, we were in for about $1400. New to lice and new to the area, we had no frame of reference and assumed that this was the reality. My wife signed their standard form and brought them back for their follow-up. All three were declared lice-free. Three weeks later, the bugs are back on all three, so we called them back. Their policy to guarantee their work is two weeks. They offered us a 20% discount as a return customer, taking no responsibility for obvious errors on their part. To their credit, they have a policy and followed it. But we obviously couldn't do business with someone who applies no good faith to their policy. What we've learned is that Hair Fairies encourages their employees to maximize hours and their policies give no incentive for their employees to be thorough, as within two weeks there is virtually no way for a customer to know that they've missed eggs and bugs. So Hair Fairies gets more billable hours and the customer is further left to suffer. A neighbor introduced us to Buggies and we went there instead. They were not only obliging but affordable. For treatment of all three, our cost was $150. We don't know if it worked yet, but they can go 9 more times before we reach the cost of Hair Fairies. read more

Update: Mayra, the manager at the Pasadena location, contacted us and had us come in for a screening. We all checked out ok, but I'm still thinking there is a critter somewhere if there were eggs, so the hunt continues. But, I appreciate that they took the time to reach out and follow up with us. They also told me to email them with a picture if I find anything else, which I think would be very helpful. Original review: I'm disappointed with my experience with hair fairies. We did everything we were told to do - washing and changing sheets, using the shampoo, follow up visits, and everyone in our house was screened. $900 later we are told that my two daughters are lice free. We went back a week later to check again and they were still lice free. I used the oils before I sent them to school. Today is day 17 and my daughter complained about an itchy scalp. Sure enough, I combed out 9 nits! Three days after the guarantee and I'm back in the same boat. Oh! And they told me they would provide me with an itemized receipt for insurance and that never happened either. I cannot say enough good things about Hair Fairies especially our technician, Mayra. I was referred by a friend who went through the awful dreaded lice fiasco with her kids. I called and was consulted over the phone and then booked for our appointment the next day. Mayra spent over three hours with us. She told us everything she was doing and how to treat it after. My Niece had a pretty bad case of lice so we started looking through yelp for help. Most companies and independent providers were unclear when I requested their fee schedule. I left without clear answers on fees per session vs. hourly. They only added to our frustration. I called Hair Fairies in Pasadena and spoke with Myra. I immediately felt assured that a solution to our problem without the run around was at hand. Myra is very knowledgeable and clear regarding the pricing and procedures! The reserved thoughts of "am I going get a surprise with extra charges", was entirely erased. We arrived at the shop and it was so clean and cute. Myra greeted us with a big smile and immediately began to explain everything that was to be expected with our session. The session went well we took about an hour or so and Myra removed MANY of those little critters. Im glad I brought her here because the most I removed was 5 and with Hair Fairies we counted about 20 lice and 100 + eggs! The pricing was reasonable and completely worth it when you consider the amount of time and expertise that is needed. I have nothing but good things to say about this place, specifically Mayra! She treated my daughter when we discovered she had lice. She made her feel so comfortable, was so kind and informative, and, most importantly, got rid of all her lice! She is so thorough and I was so appreciative of all her help. The people were nice but they charged $330 for lice removal on my daughter. Over the years, we have never paid nearly that much for either daughter -- it was never over $200 previously. I complained, but they said that it's a bad case and they stood by their fee. I don't think it was that bad as it was 8 bugs and 49 nits. Coming to the Hair Fairies was one of the best decisions I made. No one wants to get the call from school that your kid has lice. We've never had it in our home before and I didn't know what to do. And I'd heard such horror stories. And with work, I didn't have the time to spend for this to stick around for a while. I wanted it taken care of. Over and done. The Hair Fairies was recommended so I called. They got us in immediately. We were all checked. And all had it. So they went to work on me and both my boys. They were so kind. And made the experience and absolute delight. In the midst of something so not fun, we actually had a very pleasant time. Both boys needed to come back for a second treatment. But it was so great to know we were in the hands of professionals and having it all taken care of. Done. I asked a ton of questions and got all the answers. We learned a lot about prevention. And then they even went to my son's school for free to check everyone! What could have been horrible and stressful turned out to be enjoyable and calm. And we are lice free! I called in a panic since I had just learned my daughter may have lice. They were closing and offered their earliest appt. Then asked for a credit card to reserve the appt. but never mentioned that I was passed their 24 hour cancellation policy. I called the very next morning when they opened. (Hours listed online) to cancel as we did treatment on our own(couldn't wait) and wanted to see if that did the trick. The girl who answers the phone was rude and said I only two choices to be charged or come in. I'm not very fond of being muscled out of my money. I then come to find that this place has bad reviews and a high return rate for unsatisfied customers. They must have these policies in place because they do not have faith in their own work. read more

I cannot say enough good things about my experience with the Hair Fairies! I somehow went my whole childhood, teenage, and early adult years without ever getting head lice. So imagine my surprise when, at the age of 25, I discovered I had it! I remembered that a friend of mine had gone to see them when she and her sister got head lice, and gave them a call immediately. In a panic I called and asked for their earliest appointment. I was seen that afternoon, and the staff could not have been more helpful. Nancy was calm, kind, and soothed all of my worries. She also answered all of my questions and made me feel much better about the situation. It took 3 hours for the stylist to get everything out of my long, thick, curly hair. The salon is appealing in its aesthetic, calm, and for an experience as miserable as having lice is, my treatment at the Hair Fairies made it all better. They were also able to check my family members to make sure they didn't have lice (they didn't) and were upfront about costs. It is expensive, but worth it for the peace of mind. 10/10 would recommend! read more

Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience. At first, they were quick to book the first treatment and the second treatment, total $450.00. Once that was done, I called back a couple days later, as my child's hair was not cleared. I was worried and just needed some guidance. I was told that a follow up visit should have been offered on the second treatment and someone would call me back. A week passed and no call. I called again, they were very sorry and I would get a call that evening or Monday morning, that was 9 days ago. I have yet to receive a call back. Of course, I found a new salon with reasonable prices and caring service. I would highly suggest that you take your child somewhere else. read more

Thank goodness for Mayra and Nancy at Hair Fairies!!! When I found out that my daughter had lice, I was devastated and knew how tedious the delousing process would be. Her preschool teacher suggested Hair Fairies. When I called, Mayra was able to take us that same day!!! After our treatment, my little one and I were lice free!! I had an amazing experience with this new salon that popped up in Pasadena just when we needed it. I was combing my daughters hair right before bath time and saw bugs crawling in her hair. I tried the over the counter stuff which did NOT work. I decided to give Hair Fairies a try and it was soooo worth it. I booked an appointment right away for the next day for my daughter and myself. We were so lucky to meet Maira. She has been doing this for over 13 years. She really knows her stuff. She was easy to talk to, made us feel very comfortable, answered our endless questions and most importantly got rid of our lice. She even came to our house 2 days later to check other family members and us again. I cannot recommend this place enough. She even offered to check my daughters first graders for free!!! I am so glad that the first thing I did when I learned my daughter had lice was to call Hair Fairies. They are thorough, effective, and really great people to work with. Our experience: I called at 3:30 pm on a Friday and got a 4:30 p.m. appointment. Mayra was working that day but when Nancy saw how panicked and anxious I was, she came down and did my other daughter's hair (while Mayra did my hair and my younger daughter's hair). Thanks to them, we were treated within 2 hrs of discovering the lice! They combed 12 lice and 64 nits out of my older daughter's hair (gross!), and 6 nits and 8 lice out of my younger daughter's hair. We went back Monday for a follow-up appointment and were pretty much lice-free. Some nits were found which is because any eggs laid on Friday would be too small to remove. So you really do need to go back for at least one follow-up treatment. We're going back on Thursday for our final treatment and I fully expect that there will be neither lice nor nits found! Why Hair Fairies? The only way to rid yourself of lice is to remove the lice itself and the eggs (nit). This process is time-consuming (to be thorough, at least 45 minutes, usually 1.5 hrs if you have thick or long hair), and requires being very detail-oriented (you have to look carefully for the nits), and an idea of what the nits look like (the eggs change color and shape as the nits grow inside of them). You can definitely do it at home and Mayra and Nancy will gladly show you how to, but there is a peace of mind in getting it done right the first time and nipping the problem in the bed. It was very expensive, but the thought of spending 3 hours at home combing through my kids' hair and possibly not getting all of the bugs... it was so exhausting and demoralizing. You have to keep washing the bedding and anything that comes into contact with the hair until the children are lice-free so I'd rather just get rid of the lice on the first go instead of doing it multiple times at home. But Mayra and Nancy are so thorough (they stand on their feet and comb thru your hair for over an hour) and so experienced (each have nearly 13 years of lice removal experience), that you know you're in good, effective hands. Finally, they are kind and funny and compassionate. They stayed late on Friday so that our entire family could be treated and they opened early on Saturday so my husband could come into be checked. Mayra saved us! We had a wonderful experience at an extremely stressful time for our family. First time having lice and felt overwhelmed to say the least! Hair Fairies helped calm our nerves, gave us guidance, a treatment plan and got rid of the lice. Mayra carefully and thoroughly checked and treated my daughter.
