They are super helpful with accommodating appointments- friendly and the most inviting shop. I had Toni, I needed highlight, base color and trim. Don't think, just book! I have been going to Toni for YEARS and I would follow her anywhere (and did!) She always listens to what I want and offers gentle guidance and suggestions when I'm being indecisive I have long, fine (let's be honest, thin) hair- and she is always super gentle and gives cuts that help with hair health and appearance of volume. I once went through hair loss and she offered many product suggestions and above all, kindness. I still use those products to this day and my hair is much healthier than it was before. I mostly go for fashion colors and have been about every shade of pink and purple - I LOVE how they fade. She knocks it out of the park every time I see her. This location has such a relaxed and cool atmosphere- it feels like Austin in the best way. Make sure to book your next appointment before you leave- she does get booked out and for good reason. I found Toni when I was moving from LA to Austin in 2020. Initially, we kept my hair dark but it required me to go to the salon every 5 weeks. Toni suggested I go lighter so i could go longer between appts. We worked out way to this yummy bronde color that I love, and we adjust a bit based on the season. I see Toni and I feel so lucky that I found her. She's incredibly talented and her partner Tyler is too. I came in with pink hair and she helped revive it every time but my favorite was how it faded. When I was ready for a change she brought me back to blonde and I loved it just as much. I book my appts quarterly for the year with Toni and I really look fwd to them. Go here if you want to be overcharged for a amateurish haircut and leave smelling of patchouli. Not what I expected for a downtown location. I thought this would be a nice place. However, the air conditioner was off (it was a hot day) and there was an abnormally strong odor of patchouli filling the place. The guy who cut my hair had a slovenly appearance and didn't seem to be able to accept the fact that his shirt was a couple sizes too small. The stylist seemed to be an amateur. I didn't get offered a robe, and was handed a too small towel after my hair was washed. My hair looks like I got it cut at a barber college. No amount of washing or styling can hide a cut this bad. The stylist's superior attitude about how he is an "expert" was really the icing on the cake. I've been going to barbershops for haircuts for 35+ years and know a few things about styles that suit me and whether a barber is full of it. Receptionist who checked me in/out was dressed like a high school kid. I got the impression she was responsible for the patchouli odor. The odor was especially bad as I had to go back to work and I smelled of patchouli the rest of the day. read more

Tyler may provide the best cut ever OR it may be the worst. If it's the worst he will blame you in addition to messing up your hair. I found Tyler at Hair House through friends posting his cuts on IG.  He books up months in advance so I was excited to get an appt. My first cut was great. I loved it! I immediately scheduled the next one since he books up so far out.  This time around I asked for a slightly different cut. I explained I wanted more bangs and that I like them on the longer side so they hit at the crease of my eye. I showed him a photo of a cut BY HIM posted on IG.  The next thing I know he chops off my bangs super short, while wet no less so they hit the middle of my forehead. Picture Bettie Paige meets Miley Cyrus or better yet Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber. Ugh!  I immediately asked what he was doing? He not only made a face and gave some random answer, but got annoyed as I reminded him I requested longer fringe. He spent the rest of the cut trying to fix it and gave me the most basic, lame cut throughout the rest of my hair.  I left there stunned thinking maybe it wasn't as bad as I thought.  When I got home and tried to style my hair the next couple of days I realized it was worse than I thought. It's going to take WEEKS for my bangs to grow back to normal length.  I messaged him directly through IG to let him know I was disappointed and don't understand how this happened when I clearly communicated what I wanted and showed a photo of one of HIS cuts! I was extremely nice given the circumstances and wanted to give him a chance to make it right.  He quickly sent back a very rude reply saying it's strange and stressful to message him on IG after work hours and he would get back to me when he is at the shop.  I did not ask for an immediate reply and what is strange and stressful is the horrible haircut I just paid 180 dollars for! He could have waited to reply during work hours or sent a quick message to say so sorry, let's chat later.  Instead, this guy thinks he's beyond reproach after a minute of publicity on Queer Eye. I'm sure JVN would handle this in a much more professional, caring manner rather than a rude reply as the cherry on top of a massive mistake! He eventually said he would issue a refund and fabricated a story saying I showed him a photo and said this is what I do NOT want, please chop my bangs to mid forehead. Seriously?  Who brings a photo and says here is what I don't want?  This must be some kind of jedi mind trick or he thinks what a person asks for means the literal opposite. Gaslighting much? Apparently, he was not listening to what I asked for, a key component to any hair appt.  He also said I made the appt awkward to perform by micromanaging the cut. Oh I'm sorry, how dare I interrupt the grand artist at work? Asking a question as the cut is headed way off the rails is micromanaging?  At the end of the day, I appreciate the refund, but you can't put a price on having to wear a hat for weeks to hide a really bad cut combined with extremely rude behavior. The massive ego here does not warrant the quality of work. read more

YES YES YES. i cannot recommend this salon enough! this place is freakin gorgeous inside and the staff is so friendly. they have cold brew on tap!!!!! do i need to say more?! I have been going to Chelsea for over a year and she has never disappointed me. she has taken me from silvery blonde, to watermelon pink, to dark ashy brown - all perfection. she is so easy to chat with during these long appointments and despite the long gaps i go in between appointments, she always picks up where we left off which is so nice. the whole vibe of the salon is so cool, i always leave feeling super great and confident. i'd highly recommend if you are looking for an upscale salon. read more

I am a professional woman living and working in downtown. I came here for a very basic cut. I paid $125 and left with something that looks like a $50 super cut. One star because of the location and because the building was cute (this place took over the old west end salon site). But, the interior was dirty. There was patchouli burning, and the whole inside reeked of it (which is NOT what I want to smell like when I was in my work clothes intending to head to work after the haircut). It was also pretty hot temperature-wise inside, and I started sweating. There was also loud music on, and I had to ask the stylist to repeat themselves a few times because I was having trouble hearing them speaking over the music. When I entered the salon, I was not offered water or refreshment. I really disliked the atmosphere of this place, and I was here on a weekday morning when it was relatively empty. My stylist was on the grungy side and felt very unpolished. The stylist did not offer me a robe until after washing my hair, and during the cut they got hair on my clothes. The cut I asked for was simple but what I left with will require a daily blow dry to look decent (which is exactly what I DON'T want to be doing). Again it looks like a $50 super cut and not like a $125 haircut (or actually $150 since I always tip 20%). Overall, a very dissatisfying experience. Will not be returning and do not recommend. read more

Bootleg salon... don't bother. It's never a good sign when just booking a service is not a smooth experience. Not only did they just assume I was a man, they also assumed what kind of cut I wanted. Cause ALL men want short cuts...right?! I have 28 inches of hair (yes I measured) more than most women that I know... but that's besides the point. So after being told my stylist doesn't do men's cuts, I explained that I have very long hair and just needed a trim. It's been over 2 years since I've gone in to have it 'professionally' cut. Day of appointment I get a call... 1 hour before my service and I'm told my stylist is running late and that I was going to need to either reschedule or come in at 6pm... my original appointment was at 2pm. So instead of just bumping someone that was scheduled after me, they give me the option to either come in 4 hours later or a different day... because that's convenient for someone that took the day off to have this service. But what do I know, I'm just a guy trying to get a haircut. At least if we are still assuming I'm a guy. read more

After moving to ATX from LA, I was looking for a new salon home. Thank the Gods for Hair House. I booked with Toni about a year and a half ago and since then she has single-handedly brought my hair back to life (I had chopped and colored it myself bc COVID and it looked ... rough.) Since I've been going to HH, I've seen another stylist (Andrew) when I wasn't able to get into Toni - and he was incredible as well. Every time I come into the salon, the atmosphere is amazing. The playlists? IMMACULATELY CURATED. Decor? Perfection. I saw a few reviews that mentioned "sloppily" dressed stylists and overwhelming patchouli incense. That was not my experience - but perhaps these reviewers mistook chic distressed tees and jeans as "sloppy." Taste is in the eye of the beholder, I suppose. The stylists all look fab and have their own unique identities. I love that. Also, I love the smell of the incense they burn - I don't find it at all overwhelming. Long story short: make Hair House your new hair home. You won't regret it. read more

UNPROFESSIONAL CRAZY OWNER I would leave 0 stars if I could. After literally getting the worst haircut of my life, I went in the salon to see if they could fix it at all. They said they would give me a call. The owner, Tyler, gave me a call and asked when I got my hair done. I said it had been 2 weeks. He goes "why have you waited two weeks to say something? Being busy isn't an excuse considering I had a kid three days ago and picked up the phone to call you." Not that it matters, but I was out of town and had a lot going on with work (I work 7:30-6 so I can never come in- took off early to do so today). Tyler then proceeded to tell me their policy is that complaints must be filed within 72 hours. I asked him if this is listed anywhere on the website or in the salon. He said it is not. I said well maybe it should be because I honestly would have said something sooner. He said "I really don't want any fucking business advice from you." Tyler then told me he is "sorry he ruined my life and a refund is on the way." ?????? Life ruined??????? LOL I was SO confused. I have yet to receive a refund, and would like to emphasize that this is not what I asked for. I asked if we could fix the cut or if they have any tips/tricks to make my hair grow faster. A refund (if received) is nice, but does not even begin to compensate for dealing with a rude/abrasive male stylist and future months of shoving my hair into a hat. read more
