I called to make an appointment. As a new client, I was asked a few questions about what I wanted, and what times were best. I scheduled something for two weeks out. As soon as I hung up the phone, I received an email confirming the appointment with a click to sync it to my calendar. I received 2 more text messages reminding me of the appointment, the week before and a few days before. I felt like they knew we already. I arrive ontime and Nicole was finishing up a hair consultation. My wait was less than 5 minutes. During my wait, I took in the atmosphere. Clean, Comfortable and with neo-soul playing. It felt like there should be a speak easy in the back room. I was not prepared. I didn't know what hair style I wanted. I explained my habits and desires. Nicole brainstormed with me until we found something that felt right. It was a true hair consultation. Now that she understood my goals, I told her to do whatever she thought was best. I had no idea what color or cut I was going to come out with. But, as I requested she gave me something, professional, colorful and low - maintence. The color was much more than I have ever achieved with SoftSheen-Carson. This was professional! My split ends was gone, dry hair-is now moist, layers and precision describes my blunt cut. I've been there about three times, two to have my hair box braided and another to cleanse and style my hair after I removed the box braids. They're always super helpful with my numerous questions lol and very accommodating! I plan on going back there in a few months to have my hair braided again. Being new to the area I was worried that I wouldn't find a place that I can trust with my hair. My hair has been through a lot from relaxers to coloring so I don't just go to anyone. When I found them on Yelp I was happy to see how conveniently located they are. Because I am a freshman in college I rely heavily on the bus, and I am pleased to say that the bus stop is right next to this salon. This place is beautiful and they literally do it all. I was in the Albany area on business for 2 weeks. It was Memorial Day weekend and I knew I would not have time to get a haircut once I got home before it would be time to get on another plane and head to my next destination. I have a very short cut so precision is vitally important when getting my hair cut. I prayed and decided to search Yelp. I found Hair Journeys and called for an appointment. After asking a few questions, I decided to go ahead and make the appointment. The owner Nicole was my stylist. The shop is in a strip shopping center that is very clean and has plenty of parking. The shop itself is beautiful, clean and neat. They offer mani/pedi and eyebrow waxing as well. The products Nicole used on my hair are the same ones I use at home and pay a fortune for in the NYC shops. I was thrilled with my haircut and the attention she paid to the hair itself. God answered my prayer. I wish Hair Journeys was closer to NYC. I would be back for regular service for sure. The shop services customers of all nationalities and all textures of hair. I wouldn't trust anyone in Albany with my hair except Nicole. She listens and pays attention to your anxieties. My hair is thick and requires a lot of attention to highlight and cut without damaging it. Her styles last for months and she is always accommodating for schedules. She has experience styling a diversity of hair types and I've fully seen her perform miracles. Better than many cuts I've had done in NYC and the only one who hasn't chemically fried my hair resulting in me having to cut several feet off the ends. The lady knows what she is doing!!! Nicole is AMAZING! She is so sweet and makes you feel welcome in her beautiful salon as soon as you enter. Her salon is clean, hygienic and pretty-- everything you would want. I went in for a gel manicure and pedicure. She has a great selection of modern, new colors (OPI and Essie, CND for the gel) and definitely is skilled at what she is doing. This is hands down the best salon I've been to in the Albany region and I'm from NYC/ incredibly picky when it comes to nail salons. She did the manis and pedis for myself and a friend and managed time really well/ accommodated both of us since I wish in a rush. Will definitely be back!! read more

I made an appointment for my 10 year old daughter to get her hair braided for the first time before leaving for camp. Kelly, the other two stylists, and Conswello, the nail artist, were all fantastic. Kelly let my daughter pick a style and was so patient and kind throughout the long process. We were there for several hours, so Conswello fit me and my daughter's friend in for pedis while we waited. The salon is clean and welcoming and I would recommend it to anyone looking for braids in the Albany area. We came from Saratoga and we will definitely come again! read more

So I was at this place yesterday from 12:30 to 3. Nicole was extremely friendly. I think she straightened my hair better than the last person who did it years ago when I was pregnant. However, she cut my hair too short and left with me with a bald spot. I didn't know till my daughter told me at home. She walked away a lot, checked her phone too much and kept me under the dryer too long. I have sensitive skin and even more sensitive ears. The chemical burned my ears and some of my skin. The dryer burned my ears. I had surgery on them years ago. For this poor service she loses three stars as well as the ridiculous price to relax, "quote on quote" virgin hair, cut it and condition it. If you are an African American woman do not go to Nicole to do anything to your hair. She will ruin it. The hair cut I wanted looked nothing like the photo and I told her she cut my hair too short.
