I have always been the gal who hops around from salon to salon because either my experience was not so great or I never left with what I wanted for my hair. They asked to reschedule my haircut appointment to be 30 minutes earlier than originally booked, and I agreed. I arrived inside the salon a couple of minutes early, but no one checked me in or greeted me until about 10 minutes after the new appointment time. While cutting and styling, Rachel hit my head multiple times, once with a heated curler. She apologized each time and took the time to explain the steps she was taking during the haircut, which I appreciated. The haircut I received didn't match my requested style, but since the salon was about to close in 10 minutes, I decided to leave as it was. It led to some comments from friends who thought I had attempted to cut my own hair and botched it. Was not worth $60 and the 2 hours of my time. Would not recommend. read more

WORK Jamie cuts my hair and is excellent. Really nice and conversational but not overly "chatty" so I never feel pressured to keep up convo like with some stylists. She does really nice cut and color (even purple, my color of choice right now for highlights underneath layers). BOOKING very easy. They get you in relatively quickly. I don't think they have same day bookings often as they do seem to be busy and have repeat clients who come in regularly. ATMOSPHERE It's a quaint place that's modern with some character. It's not fussy, fancy, glam, or modern, but it's Westport cool. Looking around at the stylists, I'd trust any of them with my hair (because I like their hair). I hear them talking to clients they've clearly known for a while, which is a good indication people keep coming back. If I had one piece of advice for the salon I'd say maybe reception could be improved. I didn't find the front desk person to be very friendly or welcoming but I've only been twice so maybe I just caught her at off moments. Offering a beverage or something would be nice. read more

I really hate this. I want to give it four/five stars but I just can't. After reading the reviews, I made my appointment and thought I was in for a really great experience. I am not at all upset with my haircut, but it just was not what I expected from all these rave reviews. My stylist definitely took her time trying to understand my needs and what I wanted, and she did take her time. The results were not the best. When I walked out, I thought the cut was awesome. Then, I styled it on my own, at home and the story gets worse after that. My hair was cut too short, and as a result, has a bit of a funk on the side. And by funk, I guess I mean because I have a cowlick in that area, my hair sticks out funny. So, I have to plaster it down with some product. Now, I know not everyone can cut my hair exactly perfect, but come on! I had such high hopes after she sat next to me and listened to my long speech about how no one can cut my hair and then almost put me to sleep with an amazing scalp massage. I just didn't get that wow factor I was after, once again. Maybe I'll give it one more try and let her know not to cut so short. If someone reads this, tell me where I can get my hair cut please? Thanks to Yelp, I have found a new salon :) Let me start by saying, I am picky with my hair. I know girls generally find their hair impossible, but my hair is awful. Thin in front, thick in back, super duper straight if cut wrong, and no lift at all. So it takes a certain type of hairdresser that can tame the beast on my head. It takes someone like Kayla at Hair Salon. She instantly recognized my dead hair and chopped it off rightly. Though, seeing that I'm new, she didn't want to put too much texture into my ends which kinda freaked me out at first. Though she saw my confusion and asked if she should do anything, which I pointed out I hated the bluntness. Smiling and understanding, it wasn't a problem. She stayed with me until I was satisfied, and my head felt much better when leaving. We still have to establish our relationship, so it all depends on haircut #2 to see if it'll work out (like any good relationship right?) Hair also has flexible appt. times, a really nice receptionist, is cute, and is easy to find in westport. What more could you ask for? read more

I love Jamie. She was new ~3 years ago when I just moved to kc so we got paired together. I was apprehensive because I didn't know if she had experience cutting my thicker hair. She was Amazing. I hadn't had a haircut in five years and was apprehensive about going to a "salon salon." Walking in everyone was very nice, but it's definitely a bougie, all-white location, which is fine for me but not for everyone - something to keep in mind for visitors and the owners. Initially I felt a little out of place but I had Meghan as a stylist - she was awesome and knew how to fill up my awkward silences. She gave me a cut that I'm genuinely happy with and made my hair feel healthy again after so many years of being unkept. I was really satisfied with the price - $40 for shampoo, cut, and light styling, less than I was expecting and only double what I would have paid going to Great Clips and crying about it afterwards. Worth it to me. Kudos also to Hair for charging the same range ($30-$70 according to the online booking system) for women's and men's cuts. Next step is not dividing by gender at all. read more

I would just wait until I would go back to visit Cali and get my hair done at the local Ulta there. They were so good at doing my hair, I never tried getting it done anywhere else. After much research (actually just a Yelp search) I decided to try out Hair, mainly because it's 2 streets away from where I live. My appointment was with Kayla Watts and she did an excellent job. Not only was she sweet, funny and really nice, she knew what she was doing. She listened to what I wanted and weighed in with great ideas when I asked her for her opinion (always a good idea). My hair was done EXACTLY how I wanted in only half an hour (which is amazing because my hair is really thick and long and usually takes at least 2 hours to get it washed, cut and styled. Seriously). Furthermore, it was only $40. I have never ever (ever ever ever) gotten such a cheap cut. Because of my hair's length and thickness, I have never paid less than $80. Alright, so I have been meaning to do this review foreveeeeer and am finally getting around to it. Hair, in Westport, is awesome. Like, really awesome. A few years ago I moved to Kansas City from New York, with an adventurous spirit and also a head of totally fried hair. I called the salon and was given an appointment with Jamie.... and I have been a regular of Jamie's ever since. Jamie is not only a super talented artist/stylist, she is also an amazing person. The day Jamie met me I had red hair that was breaking off piece by piece. Jamie and I set out on a plan to re-healthicize my locks. With every visit, with every cut, Jamie has performed top-notch artistry. I've even been asked if I wear a wig because "my hair is so perfect". And, with a laugh, I would have to agree. My hair is always rockin'! I'm a girl who doesn't enjoy prep when it comes to hair styling, and every cut I've had since seeing Jamie has been gorgeous straightened, curled, or just left to air dry. Without a doubt I would suggest Jamie to anyone I know. Also note, this salon is owned and operated by a badass local lady with tons of talents of her own. I truly enjoy the idea of supporting local artists and businesses and feel so very lucky to have stumbled upon this salon. Five stars all the way!! Also, P.S. I am horrible about going in regularly to get my hair cut because I am a lazy girl and I have lucked out with having pretty great hair thanks to genetics, so I go every 3 months about and have had a great experience each time.
