This place is fantastic. I moved to Charlotte from Atlanta last year and was looking for a new stylist to give me my annual permanent and a cut. ( I like curly hair, what can I say?) I struck out at the first salon I tried, which shall not be named, and decided to wait a few months to try a different place. Fast forward 9 months. I called Hair Klaudt based solely on their website which looks totally different from any other salons in the area. Truthfully, though, the deciding factor was the bios of their stylists. They seemed experienced and creative. I went today and am writing this because I was so impressed. Doug did my permanent and cut and I can truthfully say that it is probably the best haircut/permanent I've ever had anywhere. And, I've been getting these done for a long time. He listened to what I wanted before starting, asked me questions, made suggestions and approached it as both an artist and a professional. This is a small, kind of eclectic shop with only 4 or 5 stylists. I disagree strongly with the previous reviewer on here that said the shop was "cliquish." The owner, Karl, came over when I was sitting there and chatted to me before taking his own client. Hair Klaudt has a friendly, fun, but professional attitude. Hair Klaudt is a pretty cool hair salon located in Plaza Midwood. They've been here for ages and are a fixture in the neighborhood. I get the impression that they can do anything but seems like they specialize in alternative cuts and coloration. The space itself is upstairs and has some very cool, kitschy decor that's right up my alley. So now that I've covered that ... my review isn't so much for the salon part of things but their side business. Did you know they have an Ebay store called Ilovebrains? At any point in time they have at least 100 T shirts for sale online. There's no real store front per se (more of a virtual one), just a display with the non Ebay listed items. I've ordered from them now on three separate occasions and been really happy with the quality and pricing on the items I bought. You purchase the listed items online and can have them shipped ($5.99) or arrange local pick up (for free). I was recommended to this salon by a friend. I wasn't sure what I was walking into but couldn't have been more blown away by the hospitality and professionalism of Karl and his team. Karl made my faded-out color and dry hair look reborn. He took the time to listen to my needs and went to work and recommended products that were very reasonably priced. Hair Klaudt is the BEST! Such an eccentric salon in the heart of Plaza Midwood. Both the owner Karl & my stylist Billiesue know how to deliver exactly the hair you desire. Billiesue has been my stylist for 5+ years and I'm 100% satisfied every time! I highly recommend Billiesue if you want vibrant colors or a beautiful, natural balayage. For coronavirus concerns: this salon is so careful and accommodating during this pandemic. I have an immune compromised dad, so I was hesitant to start going to the salon at first. Well I have always been super skeptical about who does my hair but I wanted somthing crazy and fun for a change so I stepped in to hair klaudt and was not disappointed!! My stylist Billie sue did exactly what I asked for and more!! She was super friendly and beyond talented. She is truly a master at her craft. Came here yesterday with a photo of what I wanted. Billy Sue went above and beyond my expectations! She lightened my hair from the start to make sure the purple pops and holds better. I've been going to Karl for about a year and could not be happier with the cuts he provides. I have naturally curly hair but I wear it straight mostly. But the way that he cuts it, it looks fantastic either way. I've yet to jump into color, but I wouldn't go anywhere other than Hair Klaudt. I am a stylist at Hair Klaudt and am responding to Joseph M's review. At the time his review was written there were only two people that worked at the salon(the owner Karl and myself). His station was and still is at the back of the salon and mine was and still is at the front of the salon. Karl is generally busy from beginning of the day to the end of the day with only an hour for lunch at which time he leaves. I am busy 75% of the time. Seeing that Hair Klaudt was a two man salon at the time I don't see how we could have been clickish, smug, or even have attitude. Anyone that knows either of us in the slightest knows that we are far from any of those things. In the area that we are located there are a total of 3 salons. One of which we are directly upstairs. I have to wonder if we were confused with the salon on the first floor? I have gone back through our records around that time and for 3 months prior and post to not find anyone with the name of the person with the complaint. Unprofessional, lack of talent and accountability. Told me cash only when I arrived. Asked for a touch up balayage with warm tones and my whole head is orange. I was devasted and was told that it could not be fixed until the next day. When I message the stylist, Billie Sue; she never replied to follow through. I was crying in the chair..it was humiliating and her telling me that's what I asked for and it's my fault for not communicating..it made me more hysterical. I was wildly uncomfortable. I've been to salons all over Charlotte (it seems). Aveda, Hair Color Experts, Cutting Image...I could get one (great cut) but not the other (great coloring) or neither and some places took forever to complete the job (I only have med. length hair). A friend suggested Patrick at Hair Klaudt- and I took a chance. He did a fantastic job!!! The setting is definitely relaxing and the eclectic decor reminded me of shops in my home town (Baltimore). And....the price was super reasonable!!! I find that some other salons go overboard when pricing their services, especially for the outcome. I've made another appt. with Patrick and plan to go again and again. Try it out, you won't be dissapointed! read more

I have lived in Charlotte for sixteen years and have jumped around from hair salon to hair salon many times but I don't think I've been to a salon I loved as much as Hair Klaudt. Other salons charge a lot for just a haircut, and I have very short hair, and most of the time the cut doesn't turn out the way I want it to. I find Hair Klaudt's prices quite reasonable, especially since I always love how my hair turns out. Hair Klaudt also has an enthusiastic, hospitable, easy to talk to staff and it feels like they want you to be there, and to talk to you. And if you're tired of the usual salon decor Hair Klaudt is a nice change of pace with a more alternative look to the place. I recommend Patrick, he's the best! read more

Ali is awesome! I got her to do an ombre to my hair, and it turned out better than I thought it would. I've never been to Kenzie, but I only here good things about her as well. They tend to book up pretty quick, so I advise to schedule a couple weeks or a month in advance if you have a crazy schedule like me. They are always uploading their work on instagram, so you can get idea and see how amazing they are! My boyfriend goes to Patrick, and raves about him. Their prices are pretty reasonable for the amazing work that you'll receive. The entire atmosphere is pretty rad, and everyone that works there is super friendly. read more

Kept my appointment despite agonizing back pain...I had looked forward to this cut/color appointment for about 6 weeks. I was excited about Karl establishing an awesome shape to my growing, curly hair. I had been trying to trust my evolving hair style to Karl since January. He did do the color, which looks natural and feels good. But relative to my hair, he (in his words) he literally "talked sh** about my hair..." the entire appointment; "it wont do x, it cant do y." "It will go OUT not down". My hair is very straight when wet and therefore easy to cut for a talented stylist. After minimally snipping at various spots, mostly the ends of my hair, he pulled on a couple spots (it looked limp and awful). I mentioned to him my "plopping" method for maintaining the curt and establishing style...he said "Well have at it." and walked away!! He walked over to another customer getting her hair colored royal blue and said "That's very pretty!". He left me in the chair, feeling worse than when I came in. I got myself up out of the chair. My hair was still limp and wet. I paid for the appointment, we scheduled a follow up neck trim and then a cut. I left, struggled down the stairs. Since I was in such pain, I went to CVS, luckily I had a bandana with me so that I could cover my hair. I felt that I was treated badly and my hair was disparaged, colored but not cut at all. As I said I felt and looked worse leaving than I felt originally due to the back pain alone. I had so hoped that his work with my hair would lift my spirits. My back is fine now and I have cancelled all future appointments with Karl. Going back to a salon that can cut artfully, appreciates me and values my business. read more

My first experience with hair klaudt was wonderful . I have lives here for four years now and have been to some of the top rated salons in Charlotte and was unsatisfied with every one of them until I went to hair klaudt. My stylist Allie did an amazing job , it was exactly what I was looking for and was happy with the results of my first appointment. I recommended her to all of my friends and was planning on being a loyal client. My second visit however was not at all what I had expected . I made an appointment to get a touch up on the color I had gotten at my previous visit . After she put the color in she told me it would only be processing for 30 minutes tops. That thirty minutes turned into over an hour and during that hour my stylist was juggling two other clients . I understand sometimes it's necessary to fit more than one client into a time slot but I became very concerned that my hair was over processing and she was not checking on me at all. When she finally got around to asking her assistant to wash my hair I had been processing over an hour. After she blow dried my hair I saw that my hair was nowhere near the color we had agreed on. I was hoping it was possibly bad lighting . When I told her a day later that my color was not at all what I wanted and asked if she could fix it she insulted my intelligence by insisting that I was wrong and that it was just the lighting . She said that she could fix it in a month which is unacceptable . As women our hair is our crowning glory and to have to wait a month to fix a bad color job is simply unethical and bad business practices . When I called the salon to see if they could help me they said it wasn't their responsibility but that they would call me the following business week to resolve the issue which they never did. I did not hear back from my stylist either . So I did some digging and found a very talented hair colorist named Allison who fixed my hair for me at element five salon . I am extremely happy with my color and am lucky to find someone who was not only talented but personable as well. read more

Cannot recommend Hair Klaudt highly enough. I rolled by earlier in the week to check out the space, fell in love with the skeletons and glitter, and scheduled an appointment with Patrick for this morning. We spent a glorious 3.5 hours together on my hair, and I can absolutely say this is the best color and cut I've ever received. I have been to salons all over, from Texas to New York City, and this was by far the best experience I've ever had. Karl, the owner, even came over and chatted with us about the color for a while. I planned to just color my bangs and do a quick trim, but once I get into the chair, I tend to go wild and keep cranking out ideas.
