I ultimately left both the defective product and the $500+ purchase behind. For a store that relies on loyalty and client experience, this was a remarkable failure of customer retention. My wife and I have been going to Harley for a couple of years starting when he was at Cie Spark's. This new salon is Harley's own (and brand new) place and the space is great. Bright, airy, very relaxing. It is located in the Trancas Market , so parking and access is a breeze. Now, understand that my wife is incredibly picky about her hair and who cuts/styles it. After just the first appointment with him she was completely confident in his skills and vision for her hair. After years of watching her run other stylist ragged I can't underscore more how much of a compliment this is of Harley's skill set. That she is constantly getting compliments on her hair from strangers just furthers her happiness and trust in Harley's work. Being a guy who typically doesn't put a lot of energy into my own hair, I was keeping it long and tied back. Harley finally talked me into going short and the cut he gave me is fantastic and took into account that I would not be into fussing with it every day (both my wife and I have curly hair so having someone who really knows how to cut curly hair and have the styles hold up between washings is a blessing). At the end of the day we would follow Harley wherever he went as he is truly one of the best stylists in LA, and great person on top of that. If you want someone who will listen to your goals for your hair (as in really listening not just sort of listening) and then have the skill and vision to translate your goals into reality, then we (my wife and I) can't recommend Harley highly enough. read more

I have been going to Harley for over two years, so it was only natural that I continue my mane journey at HAIR! Never one to disappoint, Harley refreshened my locks with full blonde highlights. Nicole gave me a perfect blowout. Harley takes his craft very seriously, and the results have paid off each time. HAIR is located within the Trancas Country Mart, and it couldn't be a more perfect location in Western Malibu. The space exudes a lofty vibe, and the aesthetic is sexy yet warm. I recently had 2 back-to-back horrible salon experiences, the last of which left me in tears. I spent hours researching salons in the Ventura/LA area. I finally came across HAIR and it's glowing 5 star reviews and decided, "Why not, what do I have to lose!". Best. Decision. Ever! I submitted my online request and received a text from Emily same day. I explained what I was looking for, and what I had been through. She offered to get me in next day with Gary for my pixie cut and Charlene for my color correction. I have never left a salon happier! Both Gary & Charlene did a fantastic job! LOVE HAIR Malibu!!! The owner, Harley is awesome. I felt like I was at home. The atmosphere and people really made the experience enjoyable (which I haven't found in other salons). I wanted to stay longer! I got highlights and a cut from Jessy and I absolutely love it! I hadn't had my hair highlighted in 3 years so my hair was virgin and she did the balayage style which gave my hair natural highlights with a little dimension. The good: - My face did feel really clean after the facial. A little sticky, after all of the moisturizer, but clean. - Loved the Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Firm used on my eyes and lips! The eh: - The esthetician Oceanne confirmed with my date and time was different than the one I had. Not a huge deal but confusing. - No background. The esthetician kept asking me questions and saying that I should have filled out a questionnaire but I never got one. She was overly insistent about knowing a full medical history - just for a facial. It felt invasive. The bad: - The massage was weak (and I usually ask masseuses to ease up on pressure!) - Something in the next room over came CRASHING down. Not exactly relaxing! - I asked what type of facial the esthetician recommended for my skin type and she didn't answer me. It was strange. Did they not want return business? - I asked what products would be good for my skin type and it was the same - no real answer. Lori recommended a full "treatment plan" but made no real effort to set one up. (In all fairness, I did email the salon for recommendations later and Celeste was lovely with getting back to me with product names.) Still strange.

I have been coming to this salon for haircuts for years. EYELASH EXTENSIONS: Jessica specializes in Russian volume eyelashes (where multiple lashes are placed in fans onto natural eyelashes). While I was excited, I was a little apprehensive. I had gotten 'classic' eyelash extensions elsewhere for my wedding, but they were a bit heavy and I always felt like they looked 'fake'. I was looking to achieve something even more natural, and I also get very nervous when people touch around my eyes. Jessica was great at explaining the difference between the two techniques, and assured me that we could achieve a natural look with the 'volume' lashes. Because they are finer, they remain light and 'fluffy' looking, and are easily customized. You can get a very dramatic look, or a very natural one, depending on the length and number of lashes that are placed. They also last longer. Getting them done was a breeze, I didn't feel ANYTHING - Jessica's steady hands and pleasant demeanor helped me to calm down. You can really tell that she knows what she's doing. I probably could have fallen asleep but we chatted the whole time! The lashes, compared to my previous 'classic' ones, are extremely lightweight. I can't feel them at all, and they are so soft!! I was floored at how natural they look - it was exactly what I wanted. I'm absolutely thrilled, and will definitely be back. WAXING: For waxing, this salon uses exclusively hard wax (which doesn't stick to the skin like muslin strips do) - it makes for an experience that is minimally painful (as much as it can be!). The experience was quick, and afterwards, a bit of aloe helped to calm things down. HAIR: I have been getting my hair cut here with Gayana for years - and she recently helped me through cutting a whopping seven inches off of my hair, even though I was SO nervous (I've had the same long-layered hairstyle for ten years). She gave me great advice on handling the weight of my hair with a short hairstyle, and steered me away from a blunt cut (thank goodness) to avoid my thick hair getting too fluffy. I truly appreciated her advice, rather than her just following the photos I brought in without considering the hair types. We found something that would achieve the look I wanted while respecting my hair type. Overall, I have to say that while I started coming to Oceanne just for hair, I am just so happy every time I try something new. Thanks Celeste and everyone at Oceanne for taking care of me after all of these years!!
