10/10, Annie was amazing and understood what I needed. I had come in seeking help after a horrible haircut gone wrong, and she was able to completely take care of me. She gave me an amazing haircut and fixed my choppy layers. Very professional and clean environment. I will come back!!! read more

Some friends recommended Hair Shaper to me for a trim, and without shampoo/blow out it was only $42! $80 with. Those types of prices are hard to find in SF. The hair dressers are all sweet asian ladies, and very meticulous when cutting. The trim took about 45 min in and out! The inside is very clean and pleasant. The location is a bit hard to find, as you need to go all the way inside the Rincon Center area. read more

WORD OF CAUTION: Be careful about who you let cut your hair at this salon...I came on Saturday and the Asian woman who was assigned to cut my hair absolutely butchered my hair, I believe her name starts with a T. When I say butchered, I really mean it. It was horrific. Looked like a little kid went crazy with the shears. It was my birthday and I asked for a haircut with long layers and an inch or two off the bottom plus a blowout and she somehow managed to leave my hair looking CRAZY. I should have known we were off to a bad start when she washed but didn't condition my hair. She then began cutting my hair without finding my middle part or sectioning pieces. She quite literally began grabbing hair and cutting it at random angles. Worst haircut of my life even after the "blowout" she failed to give me. I was extremely thankful when Annie stepped in and fixed the haircut. It's still not perfect but at least I was able to leave the salon more presentable. I guess I understand why good haircuts cost money. Although this was a cheaper salon, it's clear that some hairstylists here have 0 experience. read more

Came in based on a referral and in need of a haircut for Valentines and the Lunar New Year. I had long hair all around as it had been a while from my last cut but gave the specific instruction to Shirley that I only wanted 1 inch or so cut off the top and for the sides to be at a 4 to a 2 down. My intention was to keep my extended undercut but clean up the sides. Since I had to take my glasses off for the haircut, I couldn't easily see how the progress of my cut was shaping out. As this place was a referral, I took it with a grain of salt that I should trust the process. But at the end, I was wrong. Shirley didn't ask me any further questions about my haircut and just cut it as she felt. Not only did she cut an extensive amount off the top of my head (at least 3 inches), I also later realized she also left the side burns uneven. Still had to spend time myself to further clean it up. It'll be months before I can have my hair at my preferred length again. Perhaps it was my fault too, as I had originally intended to get my hair cut with Annie and I couldn't get scheduled with her. However, I would not recommend Shirley at all for future cuts unless you don't care much for your appearances and the care you're given in a haircut. read more

I have been coming to Hair Shaper for years - since 2016 (yes, that long). Aside from being the sweetest ladies they do a great job with men's haircuts! I believe I've gotten my hair done by all at least a few times and I'm always super satisfied. It's conveniently located in Rincon Center which makes it easily accessible from many offices in the area. You can make reservations or simply walk in. They have sufficient stylists so you do not wait very long even on busy days/times. If you're looking for a hair style, fade, clean cut what ever it is... they can clean you up! I recommend. read more

After moving from the Los Angeles area to San Francisco, I was looking for a hair salon with reasonable prices, good availability, and most importantly, great service. I found all of these things with Thida at hair shaper. She does a great job cutting my long hair just as I want, while being extremely efficient. The prices are very reasonable and the location is very convenient. My husband has also started going to hair shaver and loves getting his haircuts with Shirley. read more

Just had another amazing experience with Annie! She gave me the most precise, flattering blunt cut bob, that I love --exactly what I was hoping for. Annie has such a steady hand and a great eye for shape and balance. The entire experience felt effortless thanks to her calm, professional demeanor and deep attention to detail. I actually came to her 6 years ago as well, and she impressed me just as much then. What stood out (both now and six years ago) is her consistency, care, and precision. Annie is truly someone you can trust with your hair. Highly recommend her to anyone seeking clean, modern, beautiful results. read more

I've been able to get my haircut from a few different people here over the years and I can say that I've never had a bad haircut. The regular person who cuts my hair for maybe even 10 years, Annie, is someone I can honestly highly recommend. Walked in after work around 5:30pm and I was able to get my hair cut right away! $55 for just hair cut, $70 for shampoo and cut and $85 for cut, shampoo and blow dry. Holly helped me out and she was the sweetest and super speedy yet the quality of her work was amazing. Would definitely come again and would recommend Holly to anyone who wants face framing and long layers. read more

I've been going to Hair Shaper since 2017, first with Chilan and now with Shirley. They do a great job with Asian men's hair, and the hair cuts are always fast, consistent, and well done. During the pandemic I kept trying other places more local to me, but nothing ever stuck and I always found myself coming back into the city to get my cut here. Highly recommend! read more

Made and same day appointment online and came in the afternoon. No wait. I have short hair so my stylist was very quick and I was out in about 20 minutes. Quality of the haircut was good. My only gripe is that their online reservation system is not great. A lot of the pull down screens run into each other and its difficult to navigate. If booking online, I recommend a desktop. read more

So, I wanted to do a rose/blush peekaboo hair but also cover up my grey on the top with a different brown than what I originally had. Yes, I was very greedy but oh man, these ladies at Hair Shaper made all of it happen! Stacy and Annie were the ones who worked on my hair (but honestly, EVERYONE worked on my hair at one point lol it took roughly 5 hours) and they were awesome! I've had too many experiences where my hair doesn't come out the way I wanted it to be, but this was not one of those times. We discussed how much hair on the bottom would be rose/blush and when it's time to tone the hair after bleaching, Stacy brought out different color samples to show different shades of rose to double check which one I had in mind. They were very thorough and really care about what they do. I am definitely coming back for all my coloring needs in the future and you should too! read more

I got my eyebrows and upper lip waxed here. It was done in a rush and I got burns on both sides of my upper lip. These burns are going to take at least 5-7 days to get rid of and they are on my face. When I went back to speak to them, they didn't offer any support or assistance. Extremely poor service. read more

Very nicely trimmed and styled my hair! The lady was very sweet and lovely. Found me my salon. Cost me only $80!!

The place is very clean and reasonably priced. It is also very conveniently located in my neighborhood. Stephanie was very nice and did a great job at the cut. The only reason for 1 less star is because they cut it shorter than I told them to. It's not the worst and I still liked the place. Hopefully next time I will be able to communicate my expectations better but I will definitely revisit. read more

The people here are wizards! I took my girlfriend here (who is very picky as an IG influencer) and they did SUCH a good job with both the cut and the dye. They were really patient with her and offered to stay later than usual to make sure it was done right. I showed the hairdresser a pic of another influencer for inspiration but I think they did even better. Think these pictures would agree. She's coming back here for sure read more

Came here as a walk-in on a Friday afternoon and I love so many things about the salon - 1. Convenience - it is super easy for me to get to. Right outside in the courtyard area (not inside the building with Yank Sing) 2. Accepts Walk-ins - sometimes i don't know my schedule so being about to easily get an appointment was sooo amazing! 3. Cleanliness - very clean salon with plastic separation barriers set up probably from covid! It was nice having some space though 4. Cost - So reasonably priced at $35 for a woman's haircut and I'm happy with the results! (I'm not super picky about my haircuts, but the kind lady that helped me was good at asked how I liked my hair cut and she cut off about 5 inches of length!) The only drawback is you have to be pretty specific with what you want. My layers were a little choppier than I would've liked, but I know they will grow out just fine. Definitely understand why they have such good reviews! read more

This is a great spot to get haircuts in the FiDi/Embarcadero. This place has moved around a bit over the last 10 years, but it's been a reliable place to get good haircuts in an area filled with busy professionals. I've had haircuts from a handful of stylists here, but Annie has consistently given me great cuts that really work with my hair type and style. The price point is very reasonable. If you need a good haircut and you don't want to pay over-the-top pricing, check this place out! read more

So 4 years later since my original review, and I can still say that this place is still the best! Stacy, Annie, and the others consistently do an amazing job making sure your haircut is exactly how you want it. I've been getting perms regularly now (apologize for being exposed to so much kpop the past few years ). They're incredible at it. Would highly recommend. Cheers! read more

Very casually-run barbershop. High traffic. Cut my ears because the stylist is always in a hurry. The owner will give you different attitude based on the amount of work (higher the price, better the attitude). And my answer is you can earn my zero dollars from now. read more

I have had the pleasure of getting a haircut from Stacy over the last couple years. They just moved closer to my work so it's even more convenient now. The quality of the haircut was great and I especially like that I can get a shampoo to rinse off the hair and get back to work not feeling itchy. Stacy is talented but also very personable, making the experience even more enjoyable. The ambiance of the place was welcoming, and the staff was friendly. Overall, I highly recommend Hair shaper to anyone looking for a reasonably priced hairstylist. You won't be disappointed! read more

Went to get a haircut here. I already had an appointment, but you could also just walk in. I asked for a "butterfly cut", some bangs, keep the length of my hair. The first person who took me in, wasn't comfortable cutting my hair I believe just because it was so long. So I had to wait about 15-20mins. Then Annie cut my hair and omg I loveee my hair now! She kept the length as I wanted and gave me such beautiful and flowy cut. read more

Went in for a Balayage. Work was done here in half the time (~3hr+) with half the price (~$300+) compared to elsewhere. I really enjoyed the teamwork in this store and wouldn't mind tipping more than one stylers for the time saved. This is exactly what I need: highlights in hair with some common light colors. I don't need unicorn colors or a styler dedicated to me alone. They can work on other customers whenever they can. read more

This was my first time coming in to do my hair in years & I was a bit nervous coming in but Li made me feel comfortable! The area was clean & spacious. There were dividers in between each station & wore masks. It was just me. My hair is incredibly thick so finding someone who has the patience for my hair is hard because it does take longer than average. Li did such an amazing job. Great conversationalist & had suggestions on how to better manage my hair. Did the best she could to fix my hair which was sweet! Will be coming back to see Li! read more

During Covid my hair grew really long and I was longing for the day that I was be able to cut my hair again. I wanted to cut my hair as soon as the salons opened this week. Today was the day - the air quality was good so I immediately made an appointment to get a same day haircut. The whole process was painless - they had partitions between the chairs, everyone was wearing a mask (as was I) and they had plenty of hand sanitizer. I cut my hair with Shilon (sp?). They don't wash your hair, only wet it and cut it. She did a good job with my trim and I felt so much better. My haircut was $35, which is reasonable for the area. They accept Apple Pay, I gave a cash tip and was able to get out of there quickly. I will definitely go back and get my hair cut there when it starts looking scraggly again. read more

Came in for a haircut and asked for curtain bangs. Not sure if the hairdresser knew what they were because she only spent 10 minutes cutting my hair. I got my haircut done here a few months ago and I booked an appointment online with Stacy. I saw all the great reviews mentioning Stacy here on Yelp so I wanted to make sure to see her. I showed up at my appointment time and they told me Stacy wasn't available. I was surprised since I had booked specifically with her and they said "Do you want to reschedule?" I didn't want to come back after already taking time off work to make the trip here so I just decided to see whoever was available. I don't remember her name but she gave me a very rough chop. I showed her a photo of some light layers that I wanted and she spent less than 15 minutes cutting my hair. No wash and no styling. It was a very blunt cut and I didn't realize how uneven it was until I went home. Overall, I was very disappointed in how they handled my appointment and my hair. Even for $35, it was not worth it. I ended up going to a different salon to get it fixed. I guess you get what you pay for. read more

Hair Shaper - Bad haircut, very choppy and uneven! - Hair Salons Near Me - San Francisco, California

Tried an appointment with Holly for the first time after seeing the reviews here. I just wanted a trim for my layered hair, but instead of my usual layered cut, she evened out my hair. I said I hate not having layers and she said it was layered. Maybe I was influenced by how nice the place looked and how polite she was, but I just trusted that she knew what she was doing. The more I look at my hair, the worse I feel. This is the saddest I've ever felt after a haircut. Paid $40 + tip just to mess up my hair and my self confidence. read more

Ladies were so nice and listened to exactly what I wanted, they toned my hair perfectly!

Hair Shaper has been my go-to hair cut for over a decade. I can't recommend them enough!

This time around it was ok. I called to see if my stylist was working and able to take an appointment. One of the ladies over the phone said she was and that it was ok to come in the same day. I was a little disappointed when I arrived and they said she was off. Additionally, I was never put on the books, but the wait was minimal. I had expressed that I didn't appreciate the dishonesty. However, I had my hair cut anyway because I was already there. The results were ok. I'm just going to grow it out and go elsewhere. read more

I'm so glad I found hairshaper! I've been looking around for a reasonably priced hair salon in sf for so long and finally came across one. The salon is clean and quite spacious, located in rincon hill/embarcadero area. I came in with long hair and I wanted to cut 4 inches off and have a little bit of layers. I was a little surprised when we started because I'm so used to hair wash and shampoo before starting a haircut. Instead, Quan started spraying my hair with water to dampen it. The haircut turned out pretty well although the layers seemed a little choppy, but that's my only complaint. Overall, I'm quite happy with my experience! The haircut only costed $35 which is almost unheard of in Sf! read more

Terrible men's haircuts. Cheap and quick but not worth it. They seem to give certain clientele more special attention and time. It's extremely obvious and a bit related to race it seems. The entire haircut was rushed. Uneven and not at all close to what I asked for. They somehow managed to mess up an extremely basic taper. The entire haircut was done using clippers without guards using a large comb instead. Not worth the $24 since you'll have to go somewhere else to get it fixed anyway. read more
