Came in based on a referral and in need of a haircut for Valentines and the Lunar New Year. I had long hair all around as it had been a while from my last cut but gave the specific instruction to Shirley that I only wanted 1 inch or so cut off the top and for the sides to be at a 4 to a 2 down. My intention was to keep my extended undercut but clean up the sides. Since I had to take my glasses off for the haircut, I couldn't easily see how the progress of my cut was shaping out. As this place was a referral, I took it with a grain of salt that I should trust the process. But at the end, I was wrong. Shirley didn't ask me any further questions about my haircut and just cut it as she felt. Not only did she cut an extensive amount off the top of my head (at least 3 inches), I also later realized she also left the side burns uneven. Still had to spend time myself to further clean it up. It'll be months before I can have my hair at my preferred length again. Perhaps it was my fault too, as I had originally intended to get my hair cut with Annie and I couldn't get scheduled with her. However, I would not recommend Shirley at all for future cuts unless you don't care much for your appearances and the care you're given in a haircut. read more

Some friends recommended Hair Shaper to me for a trim, and without shampoo/blow out it was only $42! $80 with. Those types of prices are hard to find in SF. The hair dressers are all sweet asian ladies, and very meticulous when cutting. The trim took about 45 min in and out! The inside is very clean and pleasant. Made and same day appointment online and came in the afternoon. No wait. I have short hair so my stylist was very quick and I was out in about 20 minutes. Quality of the haircut was good. My only gripe is that their online reservation system is not great. A lot of the pull down screens run into each other and its difficult to navigate. I got my eyebrows and upper lip waxed here. It was done in a rush and I got burns on both sides of my upper lip. These burns are going to take at least 5-7 days to get rid of and they are on my face. So, I wanted to do a rose/blush peekaboo hair but also cover up my grey on the top with a different brown than what I originally had. Yes, I was very greedy but oh man, these ladies at Hair Shaper made all of it happen! Stacy and Annie were the ones who worked on my hair (but honestly, EVERYONE worked on my hair at one point lol it took roughly 5 hours) and they were awesome! I've had too many experiences where my hair doesn't come out the way I wanted it to be, but this was not one of those times. We discussed how much hair on the bottom would be rose/blush and when it's time to tone the hair after bleaching, Stacy brought out different color samples to show different shades of rose to double check which one I had in mind. The place is very clean and reasonably priced. It is also very conveniently located in my neighborhood. Stephanie was very nice and did a great job at the cut. The only reason for 1 less star is because they cut it shorter than I told them to. It's not the worst and I still liked the place. The people here are wizards! I took my girlfriend here (who is very picky as an IG influencer) and they did SUCH a good job with both the cut and the dye. They were really patient with her and offered to stay later than usual to make sure it was done right. Came here as a walk-in on a Friday afternoon and I love so many things about the salon - 1. Convenience - it is super easy for me to get to. Right outside in the courtyard area (not inside the building with Yank Sing) 2. Accepts Walk-ins - sometimes i don't know my schedule so being about to easily get an appointment was sooo amazing! 3. Cleanliness - very clean salon with plastic separation barriers set up probably from covid! It was nice having some space though 4. Cost - So reasonably priced at $35 for a woman's haircut and I'm happy with the results! (I'm not super picky about my haircuts, but the kind lady that helped me was good at asked how I liked my hair cut and she cut off about 5 inches of length!) The only drawback is you have to be pretty specific with what you want. My layers were a little choppier than I would've liked, but I know they will grow out just fine. There were dividers in between each station & wore masks. It was just me. During Covid my hair grew really long and I was longing for the day that I was be able to cut my hair again. I wanted to cut my hair as soon as the salons opened this week. Today was the day - the air quality was good so I immediately made an appointment to get a same day haircut. The whole process was painless - they had partitions between the chairs, everyone was wearing a mask (as was I) and they had plenty of hand sanitizer. I cut my hair with Shilon (sp?). They don't wash your hair, only wet it and cut it. She did a good job with my trim and I felt so much better. My haircut was $35, which is reasonable for the area.They accept Apple Pay, I gave a cash tip and was able to get out of there quickly. Tried an appointment with Holly for the first time after seeing the reviews here. I just wanted a trim for my layered hair, but instead of my usual layered cut, she evened out my hair. I said I hate not having layers and she said it was layered. Maybe I was influenced by how nice the place looked and how polite she was, but I just trusted that she knew what she was doing. The more I look at my hair, the worse I feel. This is the saddest I've ever felt after a haircut. Paid $40 + tip just to mess up my hair and my self confidence. read more

I got my haircut done here a few months ago and I booked an appointment online with Stacy. I saw all the great reviews mentioning Stacy here on Yelp so I wanted to make sure to see her. I showed up at my appointment time and they told me Stacy wasn't available. I was surprised since I had booked specifically with her and they said "Do you want to reschedule?" I didn't want to come back after already taking time off work to make the trip here so I just decided to see whoever was available. I don't remember her name but she gave me a very rough chop. I showed her a photo of some light layers that I wanted and she spent less than 15 minutes cutting my hair. No wash and no styling. It was a very blunt cut and I didn't realize how uneven it was until I went home. Overall, I was very disappointed in how they handled my appointment and my hair. Even for $35, it was not worth it. The salon is clean and quite spacious, located in rincon hill/embarcadero area. I came in with long hair and I wanted to cut 4 inches off and have a little bit of layers. I was a little surprised when we started because I'm so used to hair wash and shampoo before starting a haircut. Instead, Quan started spraying my hair with water to dampen it. The haircut turned out pretty well although the layers seemed a little choppy, but that's my only complaint. Overall, I'm quite happy with my experience! Terrible men's haircuts. Cheap and quick but not worth it. They seem to give certain clientele more special attention and time. It's extremely obvious and a bit related to race it seems. The entire haircut was rushed. Uneven and not at all close to what I asked for. They somehow managed to mess up an extremely basic taper. The entire haircut was done using clippers without guards using a large comb instead. Not worth the $24 since you'll have to go somewhere else to get it fixed anyway. read more
