With so many great reviews on here and so much availability, I decided to give this salon a go. This was the only salon that I could find with appointments within the week, rather than two months out. I booked a consultation (which I highly recommend) with Gigi for my Intro to Balayage and haircut. Video consultation - It was a pretty brief but she gave me a rundown on what intro to balayage was. It was basically face framing and baby lights along the hairline. Gigi did great at explaining to me and we scheduled an appointment the next week. Before the appointment - Got there a couple minutes early from my appointment time and as soon as I walked in, it smelled so nostalgic. It didn't reek of chemicals but the fragrance they have in the salon was very refreshing. I checked in through the text which is suggested but I also let Gigi know I was here and off I was to her station! During the appointment - When I sat down on the chair, I knew I was in good hands. We started off taking some before pictures of my hair. The service went pretty smooth and there was small talk. Gigi provided me with a cut, color, wash and style service. When I looked at the color and cut of my hair I was obsessed. After the appointment - Once my hair was finished she went ahead and rung me up at her station. For the the Intro to Balayage and Medium Haircut cost around $280 with taxes. We took some after photos and I was off. I did ask for hair care recommendations via text which I forgot to ask during the appointment and am still waiting to hear back so I wish there was more communication on that. read more

This has been the first time, in a very long time, where I left a salon confidently loving the style and cut! Shane listened and gave great feedback as we talked through what I wanted (had a general sense and he nailed it). He did a dry cut first (wasn't sure how it would turn out since it was my first time having hair cut in this order) and then did the wash/shampoo/conditioning afterwards. My favorite part - this easily eliminated any of the spiky, short pieces of cut hair that gets stuck in all of your clothing afterwards. Looking forward to more return visits with Shane! I am a man with shoulder length hair and have been seeing Shane every 3-4 months for over a year. He is an excellent stylist who work with you to make sure you are looking your best. Every time I leave my hair looks fantastic. It is clear he truly cares about his clients. Shane's attention to detail is second to none. He even spotted a mole on the top of my head between two haircuts. He let me know it was new and looked irritated and irregular right away. I saw my dermatologist soon after to get it evaluated further. Thank goodness because the mole turned out to be early stage melanoma!! The ambience of the salon was really bright and friendly. The salon was well lit, clean, and very organized. Even though it was a busy Saturday it didn't feel chaotic. My stylist Gomez was tha bomb! I loved how he talked me through the whole balayage process and explained the placements of my highlights and made sure that I loved the color before he let me leave the chair. Let's start with how much I appreciated the salon staying open, following CDC guidelines and making me feel safe! 2020 was rough for everyone and I had to cut my own hair. As soon as I was fully vaxxed and inoculated, I searched for a salon and booked my first hair appointment of 2021 at the earliest appointment here at Taylor/Monroe. The booking experience could be a little too complex for some simple services that I desperately needed, but once I received my excellent services by Katrina, I knew she was getting 5 stars from me. I have had many stylists who loved to have a convo with me while cutting my hair but couldn't multitask. Katrina was the opposite. She made me feel at ease and very relaxed. Next thing I knew, she already chopped off my hair and I loved the outcome! The whole process didn't seem long to me at all and she did a wonderful job letting me know when it would be done and what she planned on doing etc etc which I thought was very helpful because I was already stressed enough going to a salon in the middle of the pandemic. And Liz delivered! Love my look. She was great communicating with me throughout on what she was doing and I felt heard. She was patient and friendly. I also got a luxuriously relaxing shampoo, and a slick blowout. The full experience took time but it was a-okay by me. The space is also airy, bright, and historic! I called in to book an appointment for a bang trim today. I asked the price and was told it would be $15. I walked in to the salon and met Laylan and told her I was there to get my bangs trimmed and less choppy. She did a good job but at the end of the trim she mentioned she was going to charge $85 for the price of a full haircut. I was shocked. I told her I was told bang trim is only $15 and that's how much I was expecting to pay. She then played victim by saying she couldn't justify to her manager how she spent 40 mins to blend my bangs. I'm very disappointed and angry that I was asked to pay $70 more than expected for a service I didn't ask for. Going forwards please be transparent with your customers and if I am asking for more you should tell me before you cut my hair. I feel cheated and upset and will not be returning. read more

Had a wonderful experience at Taylor/Monroe, all to the credit of Laylan. During our initial consult, she listened carefully for details I was looking for in my cut and color; mostly to trim/manicure split ends without much loss of length and to compliment my clip-in extensions (which I had brought for color match). She accommodated these requests and tailored the rest of the visit to meet my needs. She even added a non-permanent root treatment because she saw I had grays peaking out. It is hard to find a stylist that will so individualize their approach so to bring their clients vision to life, and who recognized things that I needed that I didn't even know I needed. Finally, she was gentle, respectful, comforting, and chill beyond belief. I can also say nice things about Taylor/Monroe. Very hip aesthetic. Clean. You can tell the staff is well trained and meticulous with their work. Online booking is convenient. They sometimes communicate by text (I approve). read more

I HATE writing bad reviews - I understand how they impact businesses and people. But this experience has completely ruined my hair, and I do NOT recommend Liz at this salon. This was undoubtedly the worst haircut of my entire life from Liz. I was literally fighting back tears in that chair as she cut off 8-9 inches of my thick, curly, waist-length hair, when I explicitly said I didn't want to go too short. She was very sweet and seemed like she knew what was doing. Liz first straightened all my hair and then proceeded to cut it. She did not cut off one or two inches at a time, and instead chopped off 6 inches at once. Benji had to step in and intervene to try and salvage what was left. When I expressed that I was upset at how short it was, she told me not to worry because my hair would eventually grow back. (?) While it was my mistake to even approach an assistant instead of a stylist in the first place, it is NOT hard to understand the difference between wanting 2-3 inches off and ultimately cutting off 3 times that. I find it extremely difficult to trust salons to cut my hair, and I really thought I could trust this place before a formal event this week. I'm sure the other stylists here are great, but my experience completely ruined my hair and my week. read more

Been a customer of Taylor/Monroe's for 4 years now. My experiences have ranged from bad to excellent. On the bad: the hairdresser I was really hoping for, Katrina flaked on me before my wedding weekend and acted pretty flippantly about it. She texted me the night before our appointment that she was taking a sick day. When I wished her well and asked for substitute suggestions, she texted "u can call the salon tomorrow I'm sick." First of all, my wedding is 3 days away and that's a shitty unempathetic response, and second of all, I was getting a spidey sense that she wasn't really sick just based on our previous interactions. The salon was quick about finding a sub, to their credit. One of the hairdressers even whispered to me that they heard Katrina was taking a vacation day and not a sick day. Ughhhhhh. It's a shame, because she's so skilled, but months later I'm still not over how poorly she handled this and won't be going to her again. I was grateful for the sub, but I asked for the same exact thing that Katrina did in our previous appointment (with pics), and the results were honestly a bit disappointing. :( Most of my other experiences have been great; I love their booking technology and the general caliber of the hairdressers I've seen. Seven months later though, I'm still pretty pissed and probably won't be going back any time soon. read more

I hate writing negative reviews, but here I go! I booked a zoom hair consultation (was in the midst of pandemic before vaccines). First of all, they never gave me a zoom number, but assumed they would start by calling me. I never heard from anyone. Then I got a text from the salon asking if I could do the virtual consultation in a few hours. I said yes, they apologized for being late, and again no one showed up. I tried to text the number several times but no one replied. No one called me afterwards to apologize or try to reschedule me. I still haven't gotten my hair done (hard to find a good place!) but am just really disappointed that this place didn't work out because of the numerous good reviews. Luckily now I've found a great new salon close to me, the stylist is wonderful and very communicative. Well this was the worst most expensive ($430) experience I have had at the hair salon. I sent the salon pictures of what I wanted my hair to look like and did a whole consult. I wanted to go blonder. I'm already blonde but more of a dirty blonde. They said I needed a full balayage. I go in the day of and take my pretty honey blonde streaks from the front and say I want this all over. I also say I want 3 inches taken off. The stylist agrees and proceeds with the appointment. First of all, he didn't know how to handle my long hair whatsoever and it kept tangling on him and he kept ripping at it to get the tangles out. He gave it a trim at most and then put in a couple foils with super thin strands of hair and we wait 20 min. He washes it out and goes to dry it and proceeds to rip out my hair yet again because he cannot figure out that I have fine hair and he needs to put in an oil rather than a texturizer. To be honest I don't know what he put in vs what he should put in but I don't have this happen hen I blow dry my hair and I have never had this happen at the salon before either. He says at this point that my hair won't look super different but will be about the same but just a little lighter.... Welp that wasn't what I was going for but okay. At this point I'm feeling pretty shitty because my hair looks pretty much exactly the same and it was a painful not very enjoyable experience. In fact my whole head was sore the next day from all the ripping at it. It was such a bad experience that I tell the salon and the owner says he will try to rectify it by putting in some more blonde and taking out the toner. I go in the day of for which I had to leave school early to get there on time. The owner has me waiting 20 min to get seated and then proceeds to say he won't do anything for me and that I need to book extra sessions to get it looking how I want....
