It's not a happy ending, and I realized that it's not the right salon for me. They charged $40 on my card as they said they it's the minimum for the hair cut and then the owner asked me for the tips by cash...and the hair cut is only $35...and they didn't even mention to me anything about the minimum for the card when I entered. I don't recommend to visit this store as you will notice the owner's personality (greedy). It's my first and the last time...I only pick a good skill with a good heart. Let me start off by saying that Hair.com is not their website, I don't even think they have a website... I don't think they realized what they were doing when they named their salon because my first instinct was to go to hair.com (after seeing it in huge lit-up letters on their storefront) and checking their prices. Maybe I should recommend that they change their name? But anyways, my hair grows like a freakin weed. It doesnt stop. For reals. It's like folicle wildfire. I have to get a haircut every 2 weeks. My hair is also not very easy to cut, and finding a stylist that will cut my hair correctly and give it a funky style has proven to be incredibly difficult. Thank god for hair.com in Milpitas. For 20.00 I get an AMAZING Haircut. Harry (my stylist) is awesome, he's VERY well trained in what he is doing. And since I have to get my hair cut so often, The price can't be beat for the quality of haircut I get. I get a scissor and razor cut... if you go to Toni and Guy, Elizabeth Arden's Red Door or even any of the more well known independent Hair salons throughout the Bay Area, you can expect to fork out fifty bucks or more for something like that. Keep in mind that this salon is in Asian Complex so there will be somewhat of a language barrier to get past, but after you do that, you'll be amazed at how your hair comes out. Also, if you get your hair cut by Joe (the owner), prices will be approximately 25% more than the other stylists... I've never had my hair cut by him, but I have noticed the price difference when looking at their price board. I'd recommend this place to anyone trying to find a salon in the South Bay. I'm the type who likes to experiment with varying hairstyles all the time. Basically, what I do is bring in pics of Asian celebrities to the salons, and see who can imitate them most faithfully. Obviously, face-wise, I leave a lot to be desired in comparison to the superstars, but at least I try to be halfway there. I've sampled various haircutting shops in all the Chinese neighborhoods, from SF Chinatown, SF Irving, SF Clement, SF Noriega, Oakland Chinatown, Cupertino, to Milpitas, and most were fairly decent, but none could replicate the exact photographs to a tee... until now. One day, I just picked a random spot in this massive Milpitas Square mall (there are probably five or six salons here). The first person to greet me was a lady named Eva. She kindly escorted me to the back for a quick wash, and then brought me to the seat. When she asked what style I preferred, I provided a picture of the hot star at the time, and without hesitation, she started chopping away. The conversation was simple and minimal, but enough to prevent any awkward moments of complete silence. Before I knew it, half an hour had passed, and... boom! It looked like I just walked off the set of the newest HK pop music video. As the cliche goes, needless to say, I have never had to look for another shop since that fateful afternoon last year. From that day forward, I have thrown at her pictures of Nicholas Tse (HK singer/actor), Min Woo (member of Kr boyband, Shinhwa), and Yoji Harada (Miami Ink), and Eva has never failed in helping me become the supah stah that I really am. Prices are dirt cheap. Wash and cut is only twenty bucks. The only bad thing is that their mousse and gel tend to be a bit on the high end, but then again, there is always Sally... that girl. *edit* 1/2 Since Eva is now gone for maternity leave, I had to use a different stylist, and his name is Joe. I've always gotten my hair cut here, but never color. Didn't even think much of it at all before up until recently. After growing out my hair to be its natural color in full and having it be that for a few years, I was itching for color once again. My mistake for not even considering Hair.com and going elsewhere that was supposedly a "color expert". BIG MISTAKE! They messed up and didn't even accomplish the ombre coloring that I had wanted. I walked in to schedule an appointment with Joe for another day. Of course, he did not disappoint. I am IN LOVE with my hair and my hair color! I opted out of the haircut this time around, but the hair color and his work? LOVE. It's so red, I feel like I should be Ariel from The Little Mermaid .. but asian. The lighter shade of red isn't blended TOO GREAT, but I can work with what he did. I had him color my whole head a darker burgundy red color and do the highlights a much blue-red, if that makes sense. Now all I need to make sure of, is to maintain how vibrant the color is, knowing how easy red washes out. The worst decision I had made in 2018. I should have read the comments before I come. They do well for men but not for ladies. Maybe a quick fix will do but don't let them change your style. As mentioned by Erica before, the stylist (Maybe "barber" would be a proper term instead) is old fashioned. A pic worths a thousand words for what I had shown to the guy vs what I became. Totally different from what I expect. After I came home, I found there are some untrimmed parts of hair. What a nightmare. In the best interests of not getting stoned to death, accusations of "unbeliever", "devil gourmet incarnate" and losing all forms of Ecred by my readers via writing a potential third ASS-KEY-rific Mickey D's review (don't worry I have none), I decided to get groomed today at my usual random new spot, and that location today happened to be hair dot com in Milpitas Square. This location used to be Ming's, which the two brothers who own the place sold their Milpitas location and reduced their shop to one at Cupertino (next to the Porridge place and Ten Ren). The interior of Hair dot com is probably the most fanciest out of the three or so salons. The place was fairly empty today with only 2 other customers, so I got serviced quickly by a rather tall and buff Cantonese speaker with blonde highlighted hair. The guy was good. At least he seemed very detailed oriented. The problem was that maybe he was too much so, and took small snippets of hair to start, which made me wonder when was it all going to end. It took him at least 15 minutes or more before he decided to use the electric clipping razor, and even that he used for a very short time before reverting back to the ol' scissors and comb. Perhaps that is a sign of a skilled old schooler, or he's just being careful after all those past lower than 3 star yelp reviews by unhappy customers. I was definitely not out to look all super rock star pop pimp ass idol today (and most of the time), so getting in and coming out quick was my priority over fashion and style, so long as a good cut was done to specification (which it was, anything extra would be a plus for me). Good thing I was not in a rush, it really did feel like eternity in here before the cut was finally done. So why a stingy three stars? I'll get to the point 1) I don't mind when a guy is detail oriented that he needs to cut small snippets of the tips/ends of hair, but when those small hairs fall back into my head and disappear like needles in a haystack where a followup water rinse and the blowdryer don't clean it out, it makes you wonder why he didn't find ways to make it cleaner or let the hair fall DOWN and not BACK into my head. Kind of sucks when during lunch after the haircut that I find them little hair crumbs fall down and a few landed on my food, and I can't blame a waiter for it, claiming a refund etc etc. 2) So the guy hands me a business card afterwards. He wrote his initials on there and no idea of his name. Initials were just "A. X". Uhm what am I supposed to think? Are you Ax? Alvin? Alan? Alastair? Andrew? Andreas? Ambiguous? or Armani Xchange? And the "x" does it stand for X-man? Love and kisses but without the kiss and/or love? Tic without the tac and maybe a toe? Don't tease me here...spell it out! 3) Haircut and shampoo for men starting at $25. OUCH. I feel bad spending that much on it. At least Imagine in the same complex doesn't charge this much and is quicker. And this was the bottom tier price, for men who have way more and longer hair this could have been $35 or so, luckily I was only charged $25. Damn man that's 5 McCrackHo/McMuddafugga Mealz (just kidding) or 2.5 BJ's (see Nobu K's review on rumored prices in the East Bay). Not recommended for those on the go and don't really care as long as the hair gets cut and short. Maybe recommended if you wanna look real good and have time to spare. read more

This morning on the way to work, I got honked at. I work in Silicon Valley, which is a place not exactly known for having the best drivers in the bay area to begin with, so I usually just ignore these assholes, but this time it was totally my fault. I DIDN'T SEE THAT THE LIGHT HAD CHANGED... BECAUSE MY BANGS WERE IN MY EYES. Yeah, it was about that time. When your beloved stylist of almost 6 years is in Vietnam for a month on vacation and your bangs are shaggy dog status, you make do - but in a way that doesn't fuck up a $75 haircut. And I have to admit, I'd been putting it off for several reasons. There's a salon in Los Gatos that does free bang trims, but it's in Los Gatos. I could call my regular salon out in SF and have one of his co-workers fringe me up, but I've done it before and the guilt level is akin to sleeping with your boyfriend's best friend (disclaimer: never done it, just sayin'). Plus - and this reason supersedes everything I just wrote above - this time of year, after all the ball-busting that I do over the holidays, I'm just super F-ing lazy and would like to ideally get this done within a 3 mile radius of either where I work, or where I live. What to do, what to do? I was able to walk right in during lunch hour (which is not something I would normally recommend due to the crowding and parking situation in that specific complex). There was only one other client in the salon. Alice was the kind lady that trimmed my bangs. I am satisfied with the end result; it was super cheap ($6 for a bang trim) and literally down the street from work. My mother and I have been coming here for the past god knows how many years, and Joe has always consistently been an excellent barber. When I was younger, I often dreaded haircuts, and I would always whine and fidget and blow the hair out of my face, but Joe was always patient and managed to give me some pretty good haircuts. Normally, when you go to the barber and you tell them to take two inches off, they take four inches off. Not with Joe--if he says he's only taking two inches off, he's only taking two inches off which is definitely nice. I've been looking for a stylist for awhile now and after reading several reviews about Hair.com I decided to give it a try. From what I read, "Harry" was the person to ask for. I called on a Wednesday afternoon to make an appointment with "Harry". When I arrived, "Harry" said he'd be 5 minutes, so I waited and flipped through several Japanese magazines - I found a picture of a cut that I wanted it turns out. I showed him the pic saying I wanted something similar. His English wasn't great so communication was at a minimum. I knew however he was Chinese for all the Mandarin that was being bounced around between him and some others. Unfortunately, my Mandarin is pretty terrible, thus our conversation consisted of short sentences and sometimes in broken Engrish. All that didnt matter for as he started cutting, I could tell he knew what he was doing - his technique was far more superior to the usual guy I've been going to. And the fact that he didnt use a razor or shaver scored big points with me! At any rate - in the end I got the cut I wanted and found the stylist I've been looking for!! All for $20!! When I left he gave me his business card - and on it said "Henry" - ?!?!?! So now I'm confused. Well, who cares I suppose - I know what he looks like is all that matters. I've been coming here since it first opened after it took over Ming Salon. I've only gotten haircut - no experience with color or perm. Joe is very experienced with any hair style and hair texture. Not everyone can get the same haircut due to the hair itself, face structure, and etc. Joe will give his opinions and try to accommodate the style that you want. Sometimes I would just let him do whatever style he wanted and that worked out great. Sometimes I would have my own inputs and it turned out how I wanted. I don't think I have the same hair style twice until I requested to have that one done again. Joe surprises me each time. What I like about Joe's style is he doesn't use thinning scissors to thin our your hair like most hair stylists do. He does charge more than other Asian hair salon, but I think it worth the money. I have short hair, so I need a haircut every 6 weeks average. With Joe's cut, I always look presentable after 2 months. Other places that I had been to, I looked like a mob after maybe a month. The reason that he doesn't get 5 stars because he does have his off days.... I usually go on weekdays so he has less customers and more time for me. read more

Bad. Don't recommend to go. I had Joe doing the hair cut, $52, expensive, but disappointed me. I had a very long permed hair and wanted to have it shorter and look professional. I read some of the recommendations here and trusted Joe, but terrible things happened. He didn't communicate with me, kept thinning my hair, making the hair very very thin at the lower side but like a mushroom at the upside. I think his taste for hair style is very old fashioned and his understanding of layers is just keeping thinning. Furthermore, he made my hair much shorter than what I explained. I've been to this place a couple times and you really have to like Asian-style hair to go here - that's what they specialize in! I like this place for a couple reasons: 1. They all seem to have designer jeans. This makes me feel comfortable knowing they have some sense of style. 2. They wash your hair for you twice, before AND after! 3. They're cautious of what you want and they're aware of every detail. When I do come here, though, I hate looking for parking. This applies especially on the weekend when the plaza is more populated than Beverly Hills. Be careful - you're in an Asian plaza with relatively small parking spaces! Overall, if you're looking for a fairly priced place to get a hair cut (I get mine for $25), I suggest this little salon. The funny thing is that after you pay, they kind of explicitly hint for a tip. I never knew the concept of tipping at a salon until I've walked into this place. Haha. read more

I went for a hair straightening and did an appointment with Joe. When I was there, i was helped by his assistant (a temporary worker) and Joe don't even have time for me. I was so disappointed because I am there for Joe. At the end I still pay the FULL service price ($250 plus $20 tips). Then, bad thing has happened to my hair. My hair's root was burn. I didn't notice until i am home and also hair become really dry. I can't sleep for first night... Here is what happened, when i told the assistant that i felt icky and like some thing is crawling my head, she told me its normal. But i don't trust her, so i called Joe and he told me that the HEAT is too HOT for my hair. Oh my godness!! hm....my experience here was kinda odd. THe cut i got was pretty bad and not really what I wanted. I asked for Harry but the receptionist made an appointment with Henry for me. I showed him a picture from a Japanese magazine and told him how I want my hair cut. But it didn't turn out that way!!! Henry was a nice guy, no offense but he didn't really look like a professional hairstylist. He said ok to everything i told him so i thought, great, he knows what he's doing. But it didn't turn out the way I explained it to him. My worse experience was that the owner, Joe, who kept talking to another hairstylist about their gambling experiences in Vegas and many other places. I had no clue what they were talking about; but for sure I heard a lot of chinese swear words constantly bombarding. Their voices could be heard nonstop in the quiet salon. The prices are kinda expensive for the level of professionalism of the people here coz they have poor cutting skills and the place is like a street market where people swear at each other. I guess it's quite cheap for guys but not for gals. My friend recommended me to another place that cost roughly $10 more but I thought I'd give Hair.com a shot since there's so many great reviews here. Next time I'd rather pay $10 extra for a better cut! To sum up, my experience here was horrible. I got a bad cut for a relatively high price for the level of professionalism of the stylist. I go to Joe. In my first visit, I didn't have much expectations for my cut, but he did the best job (much better than when I was paying $65 for a haircut). I have thick hair and he layered it so it wouldn't look so thick and bulky. The layers were subtle and not obvious as in some horrendous choppy haircuts being sported these days. There was a language barrier with him and his assistant who washed my hair. Despite the language, Joe understood my needs and my hair. Because of the style I was getting, he would not trim more than an inch; eventhough, I kept demanding it (I'm glad he was stubborn about it 'cos it ended being a great cut). The negative: The appointment time is ALWAYS off and I end up waiting a 1/2 hour to an hour more than what I scheduled. Joe's problem is he is a multi-head man. He can't seem to understand that when you make an appt. with him, he needs to adhere to it and not work on other clients and cut my hair at the same time. I am beginning to think that making an appt. is useless. Fortunately, I only go to him on the weekend so I am under no time constraints. Still I find this very unprofessional. A fairly decent place to get your hair cut. Although you really do have to be specific with them to what you want, and make sure it's very clear to them. I've seen some horror incidents when people have been very vague and gotten the wrong results. They take care in washing your hair prior to cutting and rinsing it after wards which I really appreciate so i don't have lil bits of hair flying all over the place when I leave. The scalp massages while washing have diminished though compared to the past. The cuts for the most part are good and well done. It is definitely a bit pricier for cuts ($20 for cut/shampoo), but the result is good. It's a bit tough to communicate if you don't know Cantonese or mandarin. read more

I've been here a couple times and they do a pretty good job in my opinion. If you bring in a picture they actually study the picture and tell you if your face shape or hair would be good with it. Unlike at other Asian salons, they only cut the style they know best. Plus one star! The hair wash is amazing. Head massage, seriously I could fall asleep to it. 2 star! They layer hair using the scissors and not a razor or the blades of a scissor. 3 stars! And they style the hair after the cut using their nice hair products. They even tell you how to style your hair and what you can do to give your hair more volume and such. (My hair sucks with volume. So I thought it was nice. hehe) and they also spend like an hour if not a little more on your hair. 4 stars! I gave them 4 stars cause... It's kinda price for my taste. & if you ask for a trim, it's pretty much almost the same price as a cut. Which kinda sucks. Minus one star. :( read more

I stumbled upon this place while in the plaza looking for an old hair salon that had closed. The guy I had (Eddie) was really great. I have really fragile & weak hair and I've been to too many places where they don't care about pulling your hair out when they work with it. Eddie was very careful, paid a great deal of attention to detail and gave me a great overall experience. I got layers around my face and a trim. He did a fantastic job! I felt tended to. I've been going here to get my haircuts for the past year and a half. Being that I only cut my hair every 6 months or so, means that I've been here 3 times. I always make an appointment with Alice. She's very sweet and really listens to what I want. When I tell her I want to get a 1.5 inch trim, she'll cut it and show me the length. I absolutely hate it when hair dressers cut more than what I ask for. Alice takes her time and makes really good suggestions.
