My experience here was very disappointing. The staff seemed rude and unprofessional, and I felt they lacked basic customer service skills. I used to visit this salon when Kim worked here, and she was always friendly, welcoming, and did a great job cutting my hair. Unfortunately, my recent experience was completely different. This time, I wasn't able to make an appointment in advance, so I walked in. A hairstylist asked whether I had an appointment or was a walk-in. When I told her I was a walk-in, she abruptly told me they couldn't accommodate me. What bothered me was not that they were unable to take me, but the way it was communicated. She didn't ask what service I needed, offer any alternatives, or suggest making an appointment for another day. The salon normally closes at 7:00 PM, and it appeared there was still time before closing, so I was left wondering why I couldn't be helped. I used to bring my kids here for haircuts, and the atmosphere was never like this before. Sadly, this experience left me feeling that the staff does not value or know how to treat customers respectfully. Reviewing this salon as a returning customer. I got my haircut from Holly. I went in for a basic trim and I was pretty happy with the results. It's a no frills hair salon. They don't use the most fancy hair products or hair tools but it's a solid choice for a trim every quarter. I got an appointment slot of my choice when I booked 2 days in advance with my choice of hairdresser so it's convenient as I don't need to plan way in advance. I was happy with the attention to detail from Holly and with the length of hair she trimmed. She is very thorough at her job. The only thing I have to point out to them which I have noticed at every visit is to request them to apply heat protectant before they use the hair dryer. I wish they kept that in mind on their own. The good: For sure, Simple Hair is a nice Salon run efficiently and quick service! BUT, the bad: The stations are always busy, sometimes some stations look a little dirty and the hair implements don't get cleaned between every customer. Some ladies at certain booths are hard to understand and they are brisk (so my earring got yanked twice cause the rush to comb and complete the styling). The not good at all: their hair wash "beds" stations are dirty, and it's not good for a person recovering from back surgery or anyone with any kinda back injury - it's a odd flat bed style hair wash bed. I came in for a basic, all-over permanent color, no highlights, for shoulder-length hair. I brought in my own hair products, i.e., hair color and color developer--basically everything needed for the permanent color, which I was told I could do--and their stylist would then mix and apply the color to my hair, etc. My stylist--who I was told can do basic color, but nothing like highlights, etc., was very evidently (by the end of it all) a non-advanced-level colorist, which, to be fair, the gist of which I was made aware coming in. When I arrived at my appointment and was seated in the client chair, my stylist greeted me, we talked for a few minutes about what I was looking to achieve, she then asked the receptionist how much the color service on me would cost--and the receptionist replied back: $160. Obviously, I'm already there, and seated, with all of my products literally on my lap, I'm not going to say, NO. So, I said, sure, I'm okay with that--so that's on me. It's also on me that I didn't previously ask how much this would all cost. So we proceeded; my stylist mixed the hair color, and she asked, do you want me to apply the color from the bottom up, or from the roots to the bottom--I'm thinking, she is very junior, because this is not a question a stylist should be asking a client. Fast forward to the results, and I honestly cannot stand to even look at my hair right now. I'm disgusted by it. It's not at all what I expected; but I realize this part is on me. The primary reason I'm giving this business a 1 out of 5 is what I was charged for the service; on your website you list "color" as "$65 and up," and "highlights," for example, as "$150 and up." -- How did I end up being charged $160, which is more than the starting rate for highlights, which requires significantly more time and skill, for a basic all-over single color, shoulder-length hair, done by a junior-level colorist, having brought in my own color, with the total time, from start to finish, being no more than an hour and 15 mins? This isn't about money, because I left a 30% tip, and you know I tip well. This is about pricing that doesn't make sense. I want people to know I was charged $160 for a basic, all-over color, for shoulder-length hair, medium weight (that was already sheared down), done by a junior stylist. If other customers are charged less for a similar service it means I was treated differently. And if I was treated differently, for no legitimate reason, I want others to know about it, because it points inconsistent practices which is not only disappointing but also problematic, in my view, from a business and ethics standpoint. If you charge a certain rate, based on certain standards, whatever those standards are, it's good business practice to consistently apply those standards, as opposed to making up rates, seemingly on a whim, and applying them when you feel like applying them, which is what I feel happened to me. Note: Owner replied back (notice, she doesn't offer to fix my botched hair, or attempt to resolve the issue, etc., like any normal business would do) but she replies back trying to cover her bases, attempting to justify their indiscriminate pricing. You can see from my photo, I DO NOT have a significant amount of hair. To that point, and as I've previously mentioned, the total time from start to finish, to mix the color, apply it (unevenly), wash it out, and blow dry my hair, etc., was no more than an hour and 15 minutes--the stylist even squeezed in a hair cut with another client during that time. There are enough reviews--here and on Google--that indicate others were charged significantly less, e.g., a reviewer had their hair cut and colored, full color, non-touch up, for a total $170. If I sued you in small claims court, all of your records could be subpoenaed, so I'd caution you to cut the B.S. It doesn't matter if I agree to something, if you have inconsistent practices., e.g., charging people differently for invalid reasons, you are ultimately accountable. Also, you can't plain lie. Below you stated, "Before beginning the appointment, we discussed the pricing, expected timing, and color goals to ensure transparency and agreement...." Your stylist absolutely did NOT discuss expected time or color goals, etc. I basically handed her the boxes and told her what needed to be mixed, etc. These are minor details, but you're flat out LYING to cover yourself. You can't just put words together just because they sound nice, how about just being ethical. Also, regarding your reply, "We also want to clarify that our stylist did not perform highlights or advanced corrective coloring, but rather a full color application service as requested." Who wrote this for you? I never stated anything about me receiving highlights or advanced corrective coloring--it was an all over color, which should be significantly LESS than advanced coloring or highlights, etc. read more

I decided to give Simple Hair another try after a disastrous experience last year. My sister goes to simple hair frequently and swears by their perms. The first time I went was amazing. Second was awful. Figured I'd try again! I called early around 945 and they said I could walk in and the wait would not be too bad. I arrived and signed in and was helped almost immediately. The owner (Vy) I think recognized me from my sad experience last time and she told a guy named Paul to help me. Paul cut my hair and washed my hair really nicely. He took his time measuring everything out to ensure I'd have the volume I wanted. He was gentle and seemed very kind. When it came time for the spiral curls, Vy came by and helped out so it would move faster. It took a little under two hours and results are much better this time than last. Now I know who to ask for and what to ask for! Total was $190 not including the tip to both Vy and Paul. This should last me about 6-8 months i hope! It's much more even this time and the curls start higher and I don't look like Maui from Moana hahahahaha. read more

Ha was my hair stylist and she was very sweet, conversational, and reassuring throughout the 45-60min ish session. i asked for a replica of rachel's (from FRIENDS) layered mid length cut (reference shown). After years of going down to SoCal to get my hair done, I think I've found my new go-to salon! I found simple hair through Yelp and liked that they had good reviews. I did see some reviews (either on Yelp or Google Reviews) warning about rude front desk staff, so I was prepared when I called to make an appointment. When I called to make an appointment, I asked to schedule with Holly, and luckily, she had appointments available the following day. The person I spoke with mentioned that they have walk-in available, but the wait can be up to a few hours and does not guarantee a specific stylist. You'll just get whoever is available. I asked about their price range, and I was told the price range is $40-$55. I was just going in for my yearly haircut. Nothing too special, just a long layered cut with some thinning since my hair is thick. Since it was a yearly haircut, I had a lot of length to cut (about 4 inches). Come the day of the appointment, I checked in and wrote my name on the clipboard when I arrived. The waiting area was full, and there were even people waiting outside. People were still coming in here and there to inquire about their wait time. Even though the wait was "a few hours," some people still decided to get on their walk-in list (maybe they were going to run errands as well in the meanwhile?). I came in with photos of the hair cut I would like. We agreed on the length to cut, and she started chopping my hair. What I appreciate about Holly is that she checked in frequently to make sure that the length and thinness is what I wanted. I ended up cutting another 2 inches more than what I originally had planned. My total was $50. It has now been 3 weeks since my haircut, and I still love my haircut so much. My hair is now lightweight and has some movement and shape to it. I feel like I save so much time with washing and drying my hair now. They are located in the same plaza as Marina grocery store. First of all, I wanted to thank the team at Simple Hair for being accommodating. I originally called for a particular person, but then called back for the earliest appointment. They were able to give me an early appointment after opening. TRANG is amazing. Super friendly. Very accommodating and was able to deliver what I wanted. I asked for maroon highlights, slight trim, and curls at the end. She even showed me color samples of tones I wanted. Final outcome was absolutely wonderful. I LOVED IT. If you need a haircut or hair dye, Trang is person to go to. From cutting, hair coloring, washing and drying, you can tell she cares for her clients. Holly did a great job on the cut and was very thorough with my cut and layers. I did find the pricing a bit odd for a cut that didn't include a wash, styling or use any products. She only used the Revlon styling brush for maybe a couple of minutes. I guess the price is the same ($55 for my length) whether or not they shampoo/condition, but I was told "only charged you $50". I would have much rather paid $55 for a cut with shampoo, condition, and styling though. Of course I still tipped 20%, but I'm a bit sad I didn't get the salon experience going to the...salon . I've had two very different experiences at this salon. The first time, I came in for Japanese straightening and was treated by the one stylist in the salon who is clearly the expert. That visit went well--I got exactly what I asked for, and I was happy with the results. Unfortunately, my second visit (six months later) for a touch-up was a completely different story. I started with the same main stylist, but partway through the service I was handed off to another stylist. That's when things went downhill. My hair ended up puffy and uneven, and the work was simply not done well. One major issue I noticed is that the stylists seem overbooked, juggling four or five clients at the same time. Because of that, you don't get the level of attention or care you'd expect for a technical service like Japanese straightening--especially compared to higher-end salons. If you're looking for something cheap, this place may work for you. But if you're looking for quality, consistency, and attention to detail, I would not recommend this salon--especially for specialized treatments. I will not go back to this salon. read more
