She does an excellent job and pays attention to detail usually very quickly I can get my hair done as soon as I arrive. You can also make an appointment on their website. Had an appointment, apparently after Derrick's lunch break when he thought it would be a good idea to go down to South Austin and then shockingly wasn't able to make it back in time for my appointment. Pretty Mickey Mouse. Sad, I was hoping this could be my new regular place. The search continues.. The above review was posted five months ago. During the past ten minutes the aforementioned barber has been sending me rude messages. So not only will at least one of the barbers at Evans blow off your appointment, they'll harass you if you complain about it- five months later. If this guy, five months later, had taken a different approach and said "hey I still feel bad about what happened to your appointment last year. I made a bad judgment call and you were the one affected by that. I sure wish you'd give me another shot" I would've been happy to do so. read more

I was looking to get a haircut somewhere close to my house. I found this place on yelp and called them up to ask their price. I was told 17 dollars for a haircut. I was a little hesitant because my wife usually cuts my hair for free but she has been a little too busy lately. I had never been to this particular plaza on this side of East Whitestone before. I ended up turning in way farther up then I should have near the T mobile store. Then the hunt began of looking everywhere for it. I did not come across it till the very end. I did not see a sign for Evan's all I saw was a above barber shop sign so I drove closer and it was the place. It does say Evan's on the window but its too hard to see from down the lot. I walked in, their was 3 barber chairs and 2 barbers. A woman told me their would be a 15 minute wait and I said no problem and took a seat. TIme went by pretty quick and the guy with a beard (forgot his name) called me to the chair. I explained what I wanted and he started right away. There was not much chit chat between us which I personally like. I do not need the lets get to know each other routine. I just like to close my eyes and relax during a haircut. He worked quickly but did not rush through and he did a good job. I was thanked for my business, paid and left. I will be back. read more

Derrick is a wonderful, patient and detailed barber. Our son has Autism and sensory processing disorder. Haircuts have been a very painful situation for everyone involved since he was a baby. Derrick is so wonderful with our son that he is even at the point that he will talk (non-stop) while his hair is being cut instead of focusing on every snip and movement on his hair. We are so thankful for Derrick and for the relaxing atmosphere at Evan's. If you have a kiddo who has a hard time with haircuts give this place a try. Our son doesn't dread his haircut anymore, he doesn't freak out anymore, he is relaxed and his hair is flawless every time even with a hard part done with a straight razor. Found this place via Yelp and am very happy I did. It is a little hard to find, tucked away towards the back of a strip mall. But it's well worth finding if you are looking for great haircut. They accept appointments and walk-ins. I was very happy with the time and care they took with my hair. Much better than how some of the other places just speed through your cut to get to the next person. Prices were reasonable, comparable to some of the other chain locations in the area. TL;DR: Best haircut/beard trim I've had in a very, very long time. Exactly what I wanted, how I wanted and a price that isn't absurdly expensive. Attention to detail is quite nice. Speedy approach, with skillful hands. Long Version: A few weeks ago I went to go get my beard trimmed. Heather felt bad that my hair was mis-done with how my cow licks work just a few days before hand. Because of this, she decided to help tidy up and fix my hair for free. Not only did she manage to clean up my cow licks nicely and make my hair and beard match, but she made my beard exactly how I wanted it. She was an utter delight to talk to and overall the experience was very enjoyable. The ambiance and such is rather plain and uninteresting. That said, I don't go to a barber shop or hair salon for ambiance. I go for skillful hair and beard trimming and some nice conversation. Thanks a bunch! Sonja is great. Her haircuts are the best. Five stars for her! The online booking, however, is broken, which is why I knocked off a star. No email confirmations are sent. Also, there is no way to log in to confirm whether you have an appointment. And the system seems to frequently fail to actually book the appointment. But, since one does not get an email and you cannot log in, there is no way to determine your success in setting the appointment. read more

This was my first time using Evans and I picked it as it was the closest to where I was when I decided to get a cut. I'm glad I chose this place at random and I will definitely be back! I was able to walk in and see someone immediately. Eric, the barber, took great care of me. He took his time to make sure that every hair was perfect. He took the time to talk to me and refer to me by name as often as possible to make the visit more personable. I also got a shave while there and Eric did an amazing job. Facial massage, lotion, hot towels, straight razor shave, more towels, more lotion, and a cold towel with aftershave. He had me practically asleep in the chair he was so gentle. I walked out of there feeling human again (well, as human as I'm capable of being). I highly recommend Evans, and especially Eric, for anyone seeking a barber and a straight razor shave. I thought the cuts on my kids we pretty good, the guy was friendly and good with our little guy. A little frustrated that the two ladies in the shop finished up on others hair and didn't offer to cut my other kid and husbands hair. I asked the guy if one of them could cut the others hair and he said you can ask them if you want? We left and now have to go somewhere else later on, we ran out of time. WOW...tried to take my son there for a haircut. The barber was rude and got very frustrated just trying to put the apron on my son because my son is a little ticklish. We were there less than 3 minutes and the barber said if "he can't sit still I won't cut his hair" - and that was before he even got in the chair. He said it again after he was in the chair. The barber's leg was going up and down like he was trying to keep from exploding. I told him to forget it and we left. Another barber, Heather, followed me out and said she'd be happy to cut his hair if I didn't mind waiting. That was nice, and she was great, but we didn't stay. She has an impressive client base; many going to see her for the entire 16 years. With all the $9 bubble gum in/out "barber" shops around, this is a refreshing offering for men who usually come up on the low end of having a decent barber available.
