I stumbled upon Rosie through Yelp looking to replace my hair stylist not because I had any complaints but because I was curious about her services based on her stellar reviews and proximity to my place. The salon is in a very old building but has a cute vintage vibe to it and I've been here twice already in the past 2 months. I had a hard time finding the location but Rosie was very helpful guiding me to her spot. It's definitely different than most salons I'm used to going to but there's a reason why I went back again. So first off, I really enjoyed how personable Rosie was and the depth of her knowledge she had to share when it came to a lot of subjects. Usually, I find that connecting with your stylist can be very important especially when you have to sit there for hours sometimes depending on what you're needing to get done. I would give her an A+ for conversation and she was very genuine and engaged in what I had to say! She's also super responsive and booking appointments has never been so easy! I came in to get my roots retouched and a trim and she gave me exactly what I wanted without charging me an arm and leg (what I'm used to). Never had to return to get anything corrected but I know that Rosie takes her customer satisfaction seriously and is reasonably down to fix your issues if you're unhappy with the results. I haven't gotten anything major done with Rosie and not sure if I will, maybe 15 years ago I would have been more adventurous so I'll probably be back for the same ole maintenance. I came to Rosie for a trim and decided to add a cellophane gloss. Rosie cut my hair for the first time about 6 months ago, every after 6 months the layers and shape she put in were still very evident. But I needed to clean up tlmy damaged ends. We went over exactly what she was going to do for length and went over what the gloss would do for my hair. We talked about using a blue tinted gloss to neutralize the warm tones. She didn't think the brown tint would be enough. It came out BEAUTIFULLY!! It wasn't as dark as she had hoped for but I could absolutely see the difference. The dark glossy finish on my hair is amazing! The gloss coupled with the haircut completely refreshed my hair. She cut my layers a bit shorter to clean up the damaged areas but still somehow managed to keep a lot of my overall length. I let her know I was thinking of trying to take a more natural route to my everyday hair care. Rosie took the time to go over all my different habits to try and figure out ways to minimize damage and to give me tips based on what works for people with my hair type. Rosie possessed the patience for conquering my bizarre hair predicament, turning my 3 distinct demarcation lines (thanks to my self-attempted magicianry) into the nice ash brown with ashy blonde highlights I was hoping for. My roots were 50/50 gray, which further confused things, but she pulled it off like a charm. She stripped out color first, then added the color, then did the foil highlights on the crown of my head and face frame, some underneath at base of neck for the updo's and a "baylayage" at bottom. Each of those steps necessitated trips to the sink and blow drying for the following process. At the end, she gave me a very nice blow dry style. Happy with hair? YES!! Rosie's place is comfortable and private which came in very helpful when I felt myself dozing off thanks to the mellow tunes and scalp attention which is always known to relax me...that was a bit embarrassing...the privacy was also welcomed when I saw all of the silver rectangles and hair fountains while donning the large nondescript robe. I felt like Mr. Susan of Mighty Boosh. Rosie took her time, which my thick, long challenging head of hair needed and I appreciated that so. She has a delightful personality, calm demeanor and enough confidence in her skills which made the looong time spent there very comfortable. read more

I have very long hair that is as low maintenance as it gets and I do absolutely nothing to (no hair dye, no blow drying or curling or straightening EVER), so I was cutting my own hair for a couple of years because why not? What could anyone possibly do to mess up my hair? But Rosy gave me hands down the BEST haircut I've ever had, I didn't even realize how much of a difference a GOOD hair cut could do for me. When I first met Rosie, I immediately felt like I was going to be in good hands. She first seated me and asked me what I was looking for. I told her I wanted ash blonde highlights and a change in base color like I mentioned through the phone. She looked at my hair and gave me honest opinions on what would work and what I might expect. She told me that I couldn't change my base color to any lighter than I was expecting but what she recommended was to tone down my hair and add the highlights I wanted. She was professional and attentive. I got a lot of advice on how to take care of my hair such as what shampoo and conditioner to use. Rosie has a lot of patience and spent nearly 4 hours on my hair. The price is super reasonable and rounded to about $220 excluding tips. I also have to add that Rosie is a perfectionist. When she washed my hair, she noticed the color was more warm than cool. She immediately told me the situation and went in with a different toner to achieve my desired look. I love her studio. It was very calming. For the first appointment I had with her when I went she told me that we needed to reschedule because she needed to do something else to my hair other than what I was there for and then it would take four hours. we were able to reschedule, but I wasn't able to show up because I had an emergency that occurred. I tried rescheduling online, but it wouldn't let me. I also tried contacting her, but I wasn't able to up until she ended up texting me which is when I told her that I wouldn't be able to make it because I have an emergency and that I'm terribly sorry. I called today to see if I could come in in case anyone cancels. Any appointments. She gave me this long speech about it being a loss of money when people don't show up especially being that she's only one that works there which I understand completely but at the same time no one is perfect. i'm pretty sure at some point she has emergencies to where she isn't able to make it to appointments and hast to reschedule. if it would've been the other way around, I would've just said OK and been understanding unlike her. I've procrastinated writing this review long enough, Rosie is the absolute best! Not only is she patient and understanding of your needs, taking her time to make sure you're satisfied and taking her time on your hair in general- she just has a gift. The best way that I can describe it is that she works with your hair, not against it. No matter what you ask for, she'll find a way to execute it in a way that works with your hair type and texture and also flatters your face. I've never had a hairstylist like her! Also love that she has such a calming nature/personality and that her private little salon also reflects this vibe. I've been going to her for years and I'll never stop as long as she's around, and I know everyone on Yelp always says this- but I am very picky. Wonderful all around! So I haven't had a haircut in 5yrs, and I have always worn it very long. I was worried that it would be too short because it had never been shorter than mid back. Rosie is very warm and personal so that put some of my anxiety aside. I really like the very personal setting. I didn't have to deal with hair dryers going on an off, chatty hens, or a wait. While playing soothing music she cut we chatted. It didn't feel like just a haircut, it's a rejuvenating experience. I was very nervous about it coming out too short. Let me say this working on very thin hair is a challenge. She layered and cut so well, when I saw the end result I was happy and so confident in Rosie's cutting skills I asked her to cut more. It's a big deal to go from long to short. I was astonished with the results. I felt renewed, refreshed, and pretty. For being in the heart of downtown LA next to Bunker Hill her prices were extremely reasonable. Not to mention after my cut I was like "no, that's not right, here take my money!" I owe you more for the experience and the sculpture of hair that went from limp and long, to bouncy and full of life. I love my new DO, not to mention, my husband didn't even recognized me on the street until he saw my tattoos. After growing my hair out for months, I was in need of a trim. I found Rosie on Yelp and she answered immediately + booked my appointment for the following Friday. If you're not familiar with the Downtown area, do not be alarmed by the lack of signage. You walk into 610, take the elevators to the 6th floor and, follow the path all the way down to her door. Parking can get tricky but, there are tons of lots around the corner (about $7). Super easy if you plan ahead, I was out in an hour. I really enjoyed the fact that it was a one-on-one experience in a private (really cute) space. Rosie listened to what I wanted, asked questions, and had the most gentle touch. I nearly fell asleep while she was shampooing and then again when blowdrying! The prices are completely and totally reasonable for the area. The cut is just so perfect! My hair looks/feels so healthy. I can't wait to see her again :) Highly recommend. read more

Saw Rosie again today. There's no discounting her skill level however, I specifically asked for one look and received another. I wanted something fresher and once again, Rosie's vision of what my hair should look like ~ which apparently was little more than a rehash of my last cut ~ supersedes any request I might make. To add insult to injury, she became confrontational IN FRONT OF HER NEXT CLIENT when I expressed dissatisfaction. It was obvious she had no intention of making adjustments of any kind as she had overbooked herself. It was highly unprofessional, not to mention disrespectful to me as a repeat client. This is not the first time I have had a difference of opinion with Rosie where my hair is concerned. Initially I came to her for color. Over time she told me that I didn't need to be coloring my hair, as if it were her decision to make, and if I chose to do so she'd simply rather not. I let that one go. I've given Rosie more than enough latitude. Skill or no skill, today's experience has given me tremendous food for thought. Incredibly disappointed. read more
