Bought a Groupon for three blowouts. Had the first one done last weekend by Kelsey. I was charged an additional five dollars because of the length of my hair. It rest several inches below my shoulder. Couldn't be happier with the way my hair was blown out. Kelsey definitely did a great job and was very personable. Although she'll be on vacation, I'll be going for a blowout number two this weekend. Very happy thus far. Returned and Christine did the blowout. We had a great conversation. I was visiting Pt Jefferson one day and came upon this salon on Main Street. On impulse, I walked in for hair color and cut!! Ray gave me an excellent short haircut. Very friendly staff. Had my hair color touched up too. Excellent match. I'm definitely going back for my next cut and color. read more

Christine is horrible. Her highlight placement could have been done better by a child. Charged me $30 extra for a toner, left on for under a minute so it did nothing. I showed her a picture of a full blunt bob and she thinned my hair so bad it looks so damaged its basically a mullet. At the end of my appointment there was a piece of my hair sticking up in my widows peek and instead of getting a brush and laying it down she cut it off. The piece of hair directly infront of my head she just chopped off I was floored. I love supporting small salons, never again also the bathroom door doesn't close run away from this place. read more

BEWARE!!Short story: left unhappy with terribly dyed ombré. They also ripped me off as well as another girl I saw getting her hair done. The stylists took advantage of her and convinced the poor girl to get a bunch of things +buy shampoo and conditioner. They are looking to steal your money! And they are not upfront with you about anything. I wouldn't recommend going there. I spoke to the owner and hairdresser to ask a bunch of questions. I asked for a price ( of which was t a straight answer-there's no updated price list I was told). At my appointment a week later with Joanne went Terribly! My hair was dyed blonde twice, the hairdresser didn't want to be there, she was very unprofessional, she yanked/pulled on my hair as she applied more blonde dye without taking into account foiling, she tried to convince me to dye my hair another color. I said no that's not what I wanted. I left the salon paying $100, for dying half my hair blonde (of which wasn't lavender ombré!!). They told me I would be charged for the whole lavender ombré -$85-120. They told me to come back and I would be charged again for the lavender dye. Yeah right! Never coming back! They suck! F****NG BUNCH OF OBNOXIOUS UNPROFESSIONAL SALON AND STAFF. I bought a Groupon for Haircut,Deep Conditioning Treatment, Root Touch-Up and Blowout. Had called in 2 days before and told about my voucher that I'll need everything EXCEPT the root touch-up, and the guy who took my appointment agreed and booked me for Friday Jan 15th(this morning). I went in and the receptionist said to show her the voucher and so I did. She sounded like I had the wrong appointment because apparently the guy wrote down blow out (and I had said clearly about the voucher I bought, just don't need the root touch-up). She then went and got another female colleague to come up to me and they tried to clarify the voucher with me---I said yes, I want all that just sans the root touch-up. I have beautiful long black Asian virgin hair, hence no need for touch up! I just need the haircut, treatment and blowout. And they said "well, we can't take that package apart, if you want without the touch-up, you have to pay extra". I then said "Let me make sense of this---I don't want a root touch-up which means I won't be using your color, use up your extra time and effort===less cost on your end,right? And if so, I have to pay extra? Can you rationalize this for me?" They both then tried to explain using 'companie's policy' excuses. I continued and said "well, the guy on the phone said you (Hairport) can honor this voucher sans the root touch-up, so what now?" They went to the back again and probably spoke to the boss/the guy and came back with attitude "He said,okay. So you wanna do this or no?" By that time I already felt disgusted with their attitude, and said "I'm not feeling this vibe". She then replied sounding nasty "What you gonna do with your Groupon?" I just said "I'll get a refund". This place really made me feel sad and disrespected with their service attitude. Almost feels like 'coz they feel superior or something. Idk, I was really looking forward to a nice haircut and pampered me time. You think after hurting my feelings, I wanna spend more time not knowing what you'd do to my hair after? Love love love this salon!!! Seriously, guys- I've been coming here for the last three years and have NEVER been disappointed. I literally travel all the way from Brooklyn to come here every time I need a little "me" time. The people here truly care about your hair preferences and take the time out to get to know their customer. I guess this is why they have been around for so long. The prices are also very reasonable, especially if you're comparing to the other salons in the area. Also, being a city person-I used to think that Manhattan salons were better but trust me, these guys give you quality, affordable hair cuts that you will always be satisfied with PLUS the added rare benefit of feeling at home! You don't see that kind of environment with other salons so do yourself (and your hair) a favor and come here!!! read more

This is by far the best salon I've ever been to! I've been coming for cuts and color for almost 10 years. Although I live in Manhattan and have an excellent stylist there as well, I always prefer to get my hair done at Hair Port whenever I can sneak away for the weekend. It was a TERRIBLE haircut! Asked stylist to give same cut, only 1/4 - 1/2 inch off. She said she would not cut much, but started cutting and there were places she cut more than 3 inches. First she cut, Then she went back and cut more, then she razored ALL over. She cut back WAY too short, then up OVER the ears, and then these front side pieces were an inch longer than the back - nothing blended, it looked terrible! She cut the bangs WAY TOO short - they were supposed to lay over to the side, but were too short to do so. read more

I went there years ago to have my hair straightened and will never go back! The girl did a relaxing treatment and brushed my hair out with the treatment on and kept it close to the sides of my face so it would stay straight during the processing. Unfortunately, I had a terrible reaction to the chemicals --- went to the doctor, had to take prednisone to reduce the inflammation and put a topical ointment on it for a few weeks. I went back to the place to let them know what happened and alert the owner that the girls shouldn't be plastering hair with chemicals on it to the side of someone's face. No one there cared! They didnt even offer a refund, an apology, gift certificate etc. It was a pretty serious reaction! At the time I was young and naiive and let them get away with it. I saw that hair port had bumble and bumble products and paul mitchell. I am so glad I took the chance. Teri is an AMAZING colorist, all the staff are sweet and I now have the best haircut of my life. This is one of the worst salons I've been to. The girl rushed through the highlights and kept asking personal questions that were none of her damn business. They use cheap blow dryers, a Speed Freak which is a poor man's con air. Worst part is she botched up my hair and now I have to wear a scarf when I leave the house. read more

I am a stylist and know what to expect when I go to someone else to have my hair professionally done. I will NEVER go back to hair port. First they were incredibly nasty to me and made fun of me. I'm a young sexy girl there's no reason for anyone to treat me as rudely as they did. Totally unprofessional. When I mention I groom dogs they flat out made fun of me and laughed at me. The haircut was just decent, the layers didn't even look that pretty. There was nothing for them to be bragging about. My hair wasn't washed well and was greasy by the end of the day. They also wound up charging me more than I was told in the beginning. They said nothing about charging me more throughout the whole process, so it was a shock when I went to pay.
