I had never been, however it is local to my house and when I called to ask about their updo services they assured me I'd be in good hands. I described what I wanted to the receptionist when making the appointment, explained I have naturally curly hair and would like my natural texture incorporated into the style. She told me no problem. I showed up to the appointment with my hair washed and styled in my natural texture per the receptionists instructions. I was booked with the owner of the salon. I showed her a reference photo, my hair was dry, down, and had product in it, ready to be styled into a "messy" curly updo. I wanted my natural hair maintained in the updo as it was June, humid, and heat does not agree with my hair in those conditions (frizz, styles don't hold, etc.). I recall being one of her first clients of the day, she was an older woman and was very nice. However she did not do my hair how I asked at all. She showed up a few minutes late to our appointment, her staff offered me coffee/water while I waited which was nice. I showed her the photo, and she almost immediately began dragging a brush through my hair brushing out my natural texture. I was stunned. She's the professional, not me so I didn't speak up, this was a mistake. I ended up with a very tight and polished updo with no trace of my natural curls. The entire appointment took less than an hour. She was kind enough to use the decorative pins I had brought, but my hair was not at all like the photo I showed her. I was extremely disappointed and upset. Due to the high stress and tight timeline of the day (my engagement party) I simply didn't have time to speak my mind and let her try and redo it. To manipulate my hair back to the original state would have required a full wash to remove all the hairspray and product, restyling with heat, unpinning, and I was already stretched thin on time as she was late to the appointment to begin with. I paid, tipped, and nearly cried when I got into my car. When I look at the professional photos from that day I literally cringe. My hair was pinned so tightly that it wasn't something that I could attempt to fix myself without making it worse, and again I didn't have the time. Since she used heat on the 2 face framing pieces in the front they immediately frizzed up, and uncurled creating an awkward shape that I ended up pushing behind my ears all day. I will attach the reference photo and the final product below. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I advise anyone interested in special event styles to do a trial here first. Or skip this salon all together. My maid of honor paid for my hair as a gift for the party, and looking back I wish I would have just done it myself, or spoke up the second she dragged a brush through my natural hair and told her to stop. I hate looking at the photos of myself from that day. I look like I have a slick back in the front facing photos and from the side the updo created an awkward shape on the back of my head. I take full accountability for not speaking up during the appointment. However I do think some responsibility falls on the woman who did my hair. I told her when I sat down that my natural texture with a few enhancements was what I was looking for. I have had updos before where the stylist will curl the pieces sticking out to enhance them. She briefly glanced at the photo and immediately began brushing my hair. Which if you have curly hair you know creates a poofy poodle like texture that requires a wash and restyle to get back to normal. It felt like she did what she thought would look best instead of doing what I asked. Extremely disappointing.

She *listened* to me!! I did not feel like I was getting overcharged, and felt so comfortable I ended up doing everything that same day! Ezra did a beautiful job with the dye and the color melt and cut, and Tula checked in on every aspect. You can tell these women love what they do and Tula has such pride in her business. My hair looks gorgeous and healthy and I absolutely love it!! It's been a long time since I've been able to say that! I am so happy I finally found "my" salon and look forward to going back! He started to blow wave my hair I asked him to please put some curls/ waves in my hair. He told me it was too late. No it's not! All you had to do was use a curling tong after blow waving my hair. Or at least ask me how I want my hair styled before styling it. Customer service needs attention too. Anyway I'm not happy. I like my cut but I need to go get more highlights to achieve the look I want!

Horrible!!!! Beware!!! Stay away!!! First off I didnt have yelp acct before today. I signed up to warn the women of Port Jefferson and neighboring towns.... This place was a throw back to the 80's. The decor was nasty. They need a new renovation as well as hair stylists. I got my hair straightened today and the girl had no idea what she was doing. My hair looked better when I do it. This is a professional getting paid to do a hood job!!! My sister and I get our hair done every week. Decided to try a new place in the town we live in instead of going to Northport. I left frustrated and so annoyed. I looked like cousin it except my hair was way more frizzy then his!!! We paid cause my mother raised us better but it was just wrong on so many levels they even had us pay period!! They dont offer you water or coffee. I mean really Hair Port get it together. I DIDNT WANT TO RATE THIS SALON A ONE BUT HAD TORATE IT TO LEAVE A REVIEW AND THE STAR STANDS FOR Eek! METHINKS not. LITERALLY its Yelps rating. WARNING!! THIS PLACE WAS A HELLISH ORDEAL! Nightmare, Horrific, Disgusting and their customer service was just awful. My sister and I went in for a blowout. Sounds simple enough right? WRONG!!! The lady Christine was a hot mess didn't know what she was doing with her brushes. She really thought frizzy half straightened har was a blowout. To make it worse, I explained what I wanted straight with a slight curl at the bottom. I had to ask her to fix the frizz.... She hardly got it straight! My sisters hair girl linda had her hair looking like a frizzy mop! They must have went to the same beauty school. They had the nerve to try and charge me for having slightly long hair! The nerve when my hair looked better walking in then it did walking out!!!! I paid 37 for 2 blowouts. I'm a bit classy so I paid! Everyone said I should have walked out. I took the moral hight road! I have been going to Hairport and having Ray style my hair for the past 3 years. I will go nowhere else. He's spot on with matching my hairstyle to my professional needs. I have the best hairstyle and color I've ever had in my life. I look 10 years younger when I leave the shop. I also go next door to Green Nails for my mani/pedi. One stop for hair, nails ... and coffee. Joni, stop at Starbucks before you get your hair done. Better yet, afterwards, stop at Tequila Jacks for the best mojito in town. I had my hair done at Hairport for the first time the other day by Ray, the owner. Ray is an excellent, highly experienced hair stylist. After just a short conversation, he knew what I wanted, and he cut amd styled my hair into a short chic style exactly like I wanted it! I have received SO many compliments on my new 'do. The atosphere in the salon is laid back and relaxed and friendly. Great location in Port Jeff with parking conveniently located across the street in the town parking lot. read more

I am surprised by the 2 other reviews, I got a terrific haircut there and it was very reasonable. The staff are very courteous and friendly. They didn't cut too much off as the other reviewer said. I initially reached out to speak with the manager/owner regarding an issue my mother experienced while scheduling an appointment. I was told by Nicole that the owner, Sheryl was finishing with a client and would call me back around 3:00 PM. That call never came. I followed up at 4:00 PM and was then told the owner had already left for the day but would call me once she got home. Again, no call was received. The original concern was regarding my mother's appointment. As a Mother's Day gift, I purchased her a Groupon for highlights so she could treat herself and enjoy the experience. She successfully booked an appointment for next Saturday at 11:00 AM and later received a call at 5:53 PM that same day asking whether she would be paying full price or using Groupon. Once she confirmed it was a Groupon appointment, the tone of the conversation noticeably changed and she was told she would now need to wait an additional 2-3 weeks because that stylist "doesn't take Groupons." We were then told this policy is outlined in Groupon fine print and that Groupon appointments must be scheduled weeks out. However, I reviewed the Groupon details thoroughly and could not find any language stating that only certain stylists accept Groupon appointments or that there is a required waiting period. My concern isn't simply availability, it's the inconsistency and lack of transparency. If restrictions exist for Groupon customers, they should be clearly disclosed before appointments are booked, not after confirmation. It was disappointing that something purchased as a Mother's Day gift ended up becoming stressful and left us feeling like the appointment became an issue only once the payment method was disclosed. I was hoping to resolve this directly before leaving a review, but after multiple promises of a callback that never happened, I felt it was important to share our experience.

Overall I was very happy with the work that was done on my hair and the care that was taken to make sure my hair was healthy. With that said there is nothing that justifies the cost of getting your hair done here especially since they triple book you and often leave your hair in the hands of their "assistants"- who are also stretched thin and mostly inexperienced. I get wanting to maximize profit. I have a business myself! So I get it. But imagine my surprise when i book a highlight at 11 and someone else books a highlight at 12 and now my colorist is leaving me to do both. On top of that i think it's generally wrong to not blow out your client who has just gotten color treatment because color looks different wet versus dry. I wasn't informed to book a blow out on top of my color services I was just rushed out of the chair with wet hair day of, which was odd. Additionally, someone who formerly worked on my hair here came into MY workplace for a service and then complained to my boss instead of letting me know directly that there was an issue. I would never do anything like that to anyone, but apparently this is the culture at this salon or what this individual decided was appropriate. Again, I was happy with how my hair came out here. They brought my hair back to normal after it was ruined by another salon, but I don't think I'll be back. Onward!

It was easy to book an appointment using the Vagaro app and she was very responsive when I had to reschedule due to an unexpected work engagement or just had general questions about the appointment. She gave my curly tween several tips on managing her curls which helped tremendously. She cut her hair in a way that produces curls throughout but less tangles. She really knows her stuff. The best part? She has evening hours available and I'm not spending half of my Saturdays in a crowded hair salon where I'm sandwiched & rushed between appointments.
