I just wanted to update this review as I haven't been a customer in over a year and wanted to share why. Overall I was very happy with the work that was done on my hair and the care that was taken to make sure my hair was healthy. With that said there is nothing that justifies the cost of getting your hair done here especially since they triple book you and often leave your hair in the hands of their "assistants"- who are also stretched thin and mostly inexperienced. I get wanting to maximize profit. I have a business myself! So I get it. But imagine my surprise when i book a highlight at 11 and someone else books a highlight at 12 and now my colorist is leaving me to do both. On top of that i think it's generally wrong to not blow out your client who has just gotten color treatment because color looks different wet versus dry. I wasn't informed to book a blow out on top of my color services I was just rushed out of the chair with wet hair day of, which was odd. Additionally, someone who formerly worked on my hair here came into MY workplace for a service and then complained to my boss instead of letting me know directly that there was an issue. I would never do anything like that to anyone, but apparently this is the culture at this salon or what this individual decided was appropriate. Again, I was happy with how my hair came out here. They brought my hair back to normal after it was ruined by another salon, but I don't think I'll be back. Onward! read more

Back in 2016 I had my taxes done near the old Hairstories Brooklyn location and watched everyone walk out of the salon with amazing looking hair while I was waiting. I booked an color appointment with Daniella shortly after, and have been coming to her ever since for balayage highlights. I've followed her to Babylon and would probably follow her anywhere within NY State (and maybe even New Jersey) if she ever were to move locations again, she's that good. I realize that sounds kind of stalkerish, but seriously. Not only does my color look amazing when it's first done, but it grows out so well that I only have to have it done once per year. I get compliments on the color all the time, even when I feel like I'm well overdue for more. I used to get my full head done which honestly I miss, but since my hair has thinned out over the years I've gone with the partial to save a few bucks and to better protect my hair. If you've never had this type of color done on your hair before, pro tip is to believe the time estimate even if it seems insane. If your appointment says it's going to take three and a half hours, believe it. Good hair takes time, but it's absolutely worth it. After going to Hairstories about 10 times, I've been consistently impressed, & decided to leave a review: My first experience at Hairstories that impressed me was how accommodating they were when needing my hair washed and braided following multiple surgeries, as I couldn't lift my arms up long enough/high enough to do it myself. As having a wash & braid isn't a standard service, I couldn't book online, so they said just come in anytime, and we will find someone who can do it for you. They also only charged me $25 each time. I also appreciated how kind & understanding the stylists were about how I needed to sit/lay back at the wash station to accommodate for just having had surgery. My 2nd set of awesome experiences at Hairstories have been with Kristen Cappa--- After being repeatedly disappointed at various salons on Long Island & NYC, where I would ask for a cut that kept the luscious long "mermaid hair" feel (as I call it) that still has movement and isn't weighed down on top, I'd end up with tons of movement, but a style that didn't highlight the length that I love. At my first appointment with Kristen, I explained that I was looking for a stylist who would do what I was asking EVEN if they didn't think it would look the best/isn't what they think I should do-- I further explained that I'm willing for the end result not to look great, and that that would help me understand why other stylists cut my hair the way they did/ what I want might not be possible for my hair bc of its texture etc-- and she did exactly that! I was so grateful & felt listened to. After that experience, I felt like I trusted Kristen to take a stab at finding me a cut that would give me my lusciously long "mermaid hair" AND have movement--- and she did just that. Not worth it. I've gone here for several haircuts before and it was usually just ok, but my last stylist gave me such thick, chunky, and short bangs when I asked for a wispy fringe. She also cut them very unevenly: the longer pieces framing my face are totally asymmetrical. Additionally, I bought a very expensive shampoo and conditioner here which turned out to be no better than drugstore quality. They refused to give me a refund and only offered to exchange it for more stuff in their line, which I clearly do not want. I needed a new place to get my haircut, and I had heard great things about Hairstories, so I figured I'd give it a try. I had a late night appointment with Jessica. I had to eat some time before my appointment started, but sometimes that happens. I sit down in her chair and we do a consultation. I need her what I want and my expectations. She asked if she could start by cutting my hair dry. I have super long hair with layers and angles so I was confused why she wanted to do that but I said yes go ahead. She did a few quick snips off my length and then she started to wash my hair and get me prepped. She didn't cut my hair again while it was wet.. She started to blow out my hair, and I asked 'hey wait aren't we going to cut my hair now and do the haircut?' She goes nope! I already gave you your haircut... I processed to get another haircut by an actual hairstylist 2 days later. DO NOT WASTE $65 to get a 'haircut' that's uneven and you could literally do on yourself. read more

I had been here a few times before and I usually make an appt with Sam V, this last time I went I had picked an appt with someone else going by Cali and I was expecting the same sort of service from Stylist I guess, I had asked for a trim with long layers and a v cut and she said that it would look weird since she was going to give my hair some shape. I asked for some bangs and she did terribly, when I washed my hair and wanted to part my hair in the middle she had cut my hair uneven and the bangs are not even bangs, I'm really disappointed because I had let my hair grow out in order to finally get a nice cut but I now will have to wait until it gets a little longer and I will stick with Sam V for my future cuts. read more

Wow! What an incredible salon! I booked a super late blow out this evening (I called at 8:30pm, shocked they were even open, and arrived at 8:45pm). When I entered the salon I thought it would be quiet/on the brink of closing for the night but it was like walking into a movie scene. There were a ton of stylists and clients doing beautiful work, great music playing, and the vibe was so joyous. The interior is really cool and rock and roll, but clean and accessible. I've never been to a salon on Long Island like Hairstories. Julianne helped me from the moment I walked in and made me feel welcome by helping with my coat and getting me water. My stylist, Cali, was sweet and really gave a great blow out. I learned that they have a separate blow out bar and will definitely be checking that out. This story is one for the books, I went today for a trial run for my wedding color. The lady went completely opposite from what I wanted and dyed my hair blonde. A horrible band around the top of my head and saturated my healthy hair in bleached . I called this salon and they took me right in. The owner specifically had helped with my hair and worked Wonders. The whole staff there was amazing. From the moment I walked in there I knew I was going to be taken care of. He reassured me and gave me advice from the previous damage. I had never used them prior and also had opted to not do a trial; I had little doubt because of reviews I had read and research I had done. (Also residing in Babylon). The morning of, Holly (for makeup) , Mary & Gina (for hair) came right on time. I had expected it to be great, but it was beyond that. They're all SO amazing!!! Myself, 4 other woman and my 3 year old niece, looked perfect and beautiful. I couldn't imagine it being any different or any better. Both the makeup and hair stayed flawless for the entire time. I just moved back to Long Island after a long time away and needed a good colorist - my friend recommended Hairstories. Unfortunately, none of the stylists she usually works with had any availability, but she assured me everyone there was awesome so I made an appointment with Ashley despite not having seen any of her work. Best decision ever! My hair was in seriously dire shape and needed a lot of color correction, and Ashley did an amazing job. The finished product would be impressive regardless but ended up absolutely incredible given the state of my hair beforehand. I have super dark Asian hair and a burning desire to be a blonde, and she was able to blend amazing highlights into my hair and get rid of the damaged, brassy pieces. The cut was great too. I honestly feel like a new person and in the three or so hours since I've left the salon literal strangers have stopped me to tell me they love my hair. The salon overall is clean and bright and pleasantly busy, but not too loud despite full chairs and good music playing. Everyone was super friendly, skilled, sweet, and professional. Hairstories is the best! I've been to the Brooklyn location for cut and color and was excited to check out the Babylon location. I got my haircut by Frankie. She did an awesome job! She was also so nice and made pleasant conversation. I got a great haircut and she listened to what I wanted. The salon was busy- almost every chair full, but I was still taken on time. The girl at the front (didn't catch her name!) was so sweet and offered me a beverage. Hairstories can do no wrong in my book. Hairstories has been my go-to place for my hair for the past 3 years, so much so that I no longer live in the Babylon area and book appointments based on when I'll be in the area because I love them so much. Trevor is amazing and does my color, I can't say enough great things about him and his work but I have seen many of the other stylists for cuts and blowouts and I have never been disappointed. They have an awesome online booking system too making it super easy to book appointments in advance and they send you text reminders when your appointment is coming up. He expressed how sorry he was that we were unable to achieve my desired look and explained that the gentle hair painting technique unfortunately could not lift the red tones out of my hair. Chase offered to provide me with another appointment, however, after I informed him that I visited another salon he offered to provide me with a full refund. I made an appointment specifically asking for a great colorist because my hair does not lift well. I wanted whiteish blonde. I understood it would take a few times but I still wanted it to be noticibly lighter when I left even if it isn't exactly the color yet of my goal. I was extremely disappointed right away because my hair was *exactly* the same as what I came in with but just brought up towards to roots more (not my goal.) I was told a few times during the appointment it will lighten up, but nope, I had lots of people comment that it was actually darker which was frustrating to just throw away money like that. I gave it plenty of time to 'do its thing' like I was told but then emailed the contact on their website, Chase once I had the time. I explained everything, Chase asked for pictures, sent them a day later then nothing. Haven't heard anything in over two weeks. Decided to go to someone that does all sorts of color so she knew what she was doing. She is coming back in 4 weeks since I did expect more than one visit to get what I wanted BUT as you can see in these pictures it is noticibly lighter and on the right track. Next time I'm sure I'll be even more thrilled once it's all evened out and a step lighter again. It's pretty fortunate I only paid Hairstories the Black Friday deal of $200 but from what I understand it would've been closer to $400 normally. Ridiculous. Geeks Get Glam is amazing and also great if you're looking for funky colors. I'm probably most upset my complaint was never taken seriously and ignored. Never again Hairstories. PS - I tried to be as fair as possible with lighting in the attached photos which can make a big difference in appearance. That one in my car was right after my appointment at HS and in daylight. Act like they're to good for you, don't listen to what you say/the photos you show. I had my hair done black a couple months back, it washed out in the shower black for weeks/months. The color didn't fade surprisingly, but my clothes were stained. Then they gave me their shampoo/conditioner and said it was amazing! It's the opposite. 2/10 read more

This is my place. Amazing vibes inside the salon--I can't say enough how much your environment impacts your life. Getting your hair done in a "traditional" salon SUCKS! (can I get an OKURRRR!) Hairstories broke that mold, they just get it. Trendy music, HAPPY employees who want to be there because they're learning & growing from the inside (what a concept!) and creativity flowing from hair strand to hair strand. My story--I'm traditionally a painter turned graphic designer. I've never enjoyed the salon "experience". So one day I decided "how hard could highlights really be? I can totally do this" So I mosey my way to the one and only Sally Beauty--mistake # 1, never ask advice from a cashier at sally beauty with crusty skin and orange roots. I tried to look past that and thought, "she must know what she is talking about" (WRONG)--that was mistake #2--So I buy some product, head home, rip foil, and get my product mixing. Right before I put the die in my hair--I think to myself "DON'T DO IT" but being the rebel I am, I GO FOR IT. I managed to get all the foil in and it kinda looked like a salon professional did that part--"I think I did it!" Then, I take the foil out--mistake #3, MY HAIR WAS BLUE.............sooo, I freak out, mistake #4, pour bleach on my head (all over it ruining my natural roots) mistake #5, my hair is now ORANGE. I. GAVE. UP. Rewind, I had been trying to get an appointment at Hairstories for about three years, it's pretty tough. But when I totally botched my hair, I was determined and they took me right in upon seeing the mess I had made of my hair. This just goes to show, you gotta go after what you want in life, whether it's a slice of pizza at 11pm, that glass of vino or that appointment at Hairstories. Lucy has cut my hair several times now, and I honestly have to say that it only gets better with each cut. The cost of a cut is $60 with Lucy, but it's so worth it. She doesn't do any color, but there are a ton of other people in the salon who do, and she'll be sure to pair you up with the perfect person for your hair type. If you log onto their website, you can schedule your appointment instead of calling which is super convenient. Instead of asking when available times are, you just punch in what you want done and with which stylist, and voila! There's your list of available dates and times. Perfect, really. Then there's the wash before your cut... When they give you a super brief but super incredible head massage! Amazingggggggg. Beware, there is no lot - it's street parking for the most part and it's metered Monday-Saturday. read more

I do not trust just anyone with my hair, so for me to love him and book months in advance just to have him says a lot. I have never had a bad experience with him, Hairstories stylists or staff ever. They go above and beyond to achieve your hair goals and make you feel at home.
