I give this place 1 star on account that the staff CAN be friendly they can also be rude and inconsiderate... I had a horrible toot touch up here. My stylist Jess was 45 min late to begin with, and took 2 and a half hours to give me a double process and a trim. No one informed me she'd be so late and when my hair came out brass I had to tell her to fix it, otherwise I suspect she would've left it looking like I dyed it from a box. She toned it twice and I came BACK in the next morning to lift more color and tone it. This is the end result. All in all, I wasted 5 hours of my life and my money to get bad hair from a girl who has no business doing a double process and no consideration for her clients time. I need to update my review here. I've been going back to Ntrigue more regularly for cuts and mostly color after I posted my last review, but over the last year or so I was really turned off by my colorist/hairstylist, Tracy, and I won't be going back. I am natural blonde but wanted to go platinum so I went to Tracy. Loved the color and she told me to come back in 3-4 weeks for a touch up. I really couldn't spend the $125+ every 3-4 weeks to keep my hair root-free so I'd stretch my touch ups out a bit longer. When I went back to Tracy for my first follow up she said I waited so long that now she's going to have to do a special "insert technical term for coloring extra rootage here". She didn't mention anything about the price being more, but when I went to pay the price was almost double what I pay for a regular touch up (plus THREE tips -- Tracy, the assistant AND the other colorist she'd always have working on my hair because no one EVER scheduled the proper time -- I have long, thick hair -- so she was always having someone else do my hair mid-color while she attended to other clients. I never complained, but it's obnoxious to have to tip two colorists 20%). Also, I'm paying good money for a "master colorist" to do my hair, not for a "master and an underling". If that was the case they should've charged less. A couple of times Tracy would start on my hair then actually have the assistants (aka shampoo girls) finish applying the color and glaze!! I didn't keep the platinum hair for long, I might've had 3 touch ups of platinum with Tracy before I wanted to go deep red and the upkeep on platinum was just too cost prohibitive (not to mention damaging to my hair). I was told that once I went red I couldn't go back to my natural blonde until all the red grew out and that could take years. I was ok with that because I wanted a change. What I wasn't expecting was the $225 price tag -- which didn't include a cut or blow dry, I usually leave with my hair wet and style it myself at home. I inquired about the price over the phone BEFORE my appointment and was quoted $90 and up. I didn't think "and up" gave them free reign to charge more than double that amount (plus tips for THREE because yet again not enough time was allotted for me). But what REALLY boiled my blood and got me never to return was when I would go in for my touch ups Tracy would say I looked like white trailer trash because my roots were so long. I joked and called it ombré. She said again, white trash. I said Nikki Minaj has the platinum hair with dark roots so I was on trend. Tracy: white trash. Let's not exaggerate, my roots weren't THAT long but with platinum even a little growth looks bad. I don't spend top dollar to get verbally abused and insulted by someone providing a service to me and for that I will not return. We're on Long Island, not NYC! I moved out here from NYC so I know what upscale salons are and this isn't one of them. I'm also not returning because no one EVER scheduled the proper time for my appointments despite knowing me personally my hair type since I've been going here for years causing me to tip two colorists and an assistant. I have since gone back to the salon I abandoned for Intrigue and am so happy. I don't know why I stopped going, the technicians are great, their prices are reasonable and most of all they don't insult me. read more

Very clean and professional. I've only had a few blow outs/cuts from Jen and Danielle and they are both amazing stylists and lovely gals. Recently, she highlighted and toned down my crown from sun oxidation and did a wonderful job. All the girls in the front are extremely friendly and accommodating. Wish I came sooner! read more

I wrote this letter and emailed it to the salon. I never heard back from them. *** I had an appointment with Katelin on August 11, 2012 at 10:30 am. I wanted the ombre color and showed her two photographs of what I wanted. She told me that we might not be able to achieve the exact color in the photograph and that it might look more like Khloe Kardashian instead of Miley Cyrus, who was pictured in the photograph. She seemed very confident of her skills, which led me to believe that she had done this before. She applied the bleach and, when it was time, checked my foils. She asked me if I had ever colored my hair before and I replied that I had. She said something about red dye being harder to lift and then conferenced with a couple of other stylists, including a lead stylist with 20+ years of experience. They told her to "hit it again." Katelin had other appointments that day and asked two co-workers to help out with my hair. I had TWO women reapplying the bleach - one of each side of my head. By this time, I had been in the salon for about 4 1/2 hours. I was asked if I wanted a blowout and, when I was told it would cost even more, I said, "No." Unbeknownst to me, my mother, who had accompanied me that day, paid the bill of $205, while I tipped Katelin and my shampoo girl. At the time, Katelin said, "Next time you come back, we'll do it again and it'll look better." I was confused by this statement but left the salon, as it was a 45-minute ride home. When I woke up the next morning, my hair had dried. Not only did it lack my natural curl, it was extremely frizzy even though I'd put my regular product in it the night before. However, this was nothing when compared to the color and condition of my hair. The tips were blond and were as dry as a haystack. The middle color was orange. ORANGE. I had about two inches of dark root on one side and three inches of dark root on the other. Not only was it orange, the color was completely uneven. I waited a few days and asked myself, "Is this what the picture looked like? Is this the picture I showed her?" Obviously, it was not. It was orange, dry and frizzy. A friend told me that it looked like a bad bleach job that I had done myself. At this point, it was Tuesday and I was scheduled to leave New York to come back to Maryland, where I live now. I went to a colorist at a salon in Massapequa. The stylist, colorist, the receptionist and the owner were in shock when they saw my hair. Each one, at a different point during my appointment, said to me that they, personally, wouldn't let anyone leave their salon looking like I did.I had to cut off about 3 inches and single-process my hair to my root color in addition to receiving a major conditioning treatment. Thank goodness I decided to get it fixed at this salon. I don't know what I would've done otherwise. I did contemplate calling your salon to fix the damage. However, the final result was so bad that I knew I couldn't trust your colorists and stylists. I had three to four women working and/or conferencing about my hair that day. How they ALL let me leave the salon with uneven, orange hair is astounding to me. I would like a full refund of the $205 for my mother. I feel terribly that her treat to me was ruined. For our family, $200 means a lot right now and it was completely wasted on that Saturday. I thought of asking for store credit but, again, your salon let me leave with orange hair and I can not trust anyone there again. You can mail the payment to my mother. If you can not refund the money, I will have no other recourse than to post this letter on yelp.com read more

They do very good work however what I didn't know was that they keep tabs on you and if you miss an appointment too many times they require a deposit over the phone. First off, good business practice is to make your clients aware this is something that is done. The receptionist seemed to know I had missed one before so if this was such an issue then why wasn't this brought to my attention the last time I was there. It I cost the stylist "so much money" because I missed the appointment. Furthermore, no courtesy call was made to me to remind me of the appointment a common practice among professional salons . Needless to say; I will not be giving them business anymore. I hope they understand there is ALOT of competition around them that does the same level of work IF NOT BETTER work. I had two disappointing haircuts here in a row from two different people. I use that word because they were not bad per se but completely different from what I wanted.
