I found the Hairworxs salon by accident one day while going to Stop & Shop to get my groceries. Being new to the area after living in Boston for 35 years, I was amazed at the job that the owner of Hairworxs, Michelle, did to my hair. I was apprehensive because I've been getting my haircut from the same stylist at the Dallaria salon on Newbury Street for the last 35 years. I received so many positive comments from my family and friends on how well my hair looks and questions on to what am I doing differently. I shared that I changed hairstylist. They are like .... wow what a difference so I will be getting my cut and color from Michelle from now on. After sharing with Michelle my experience she informed me that she actually worked at Aluna Spa for many years on Newbury Street which is directly across the street from the Dallaria salon location on Newbury St., Boston. Clean spot, owner is courteous, just validate the price before you commit. My opinion is that it was expensive for the services provided. We just got a basic 1 inch trim, no wash, no dry, no bangs, no layers for my 13 year old daughter. $45 did not seem reasonable to me - the stylist made her stand up to cut her hair which was a first for us. Owner was welcoming just wish I checked the prices- I assumed she would fall into 10+ age as listed on their website. read more

Have been in hospital for quite a while for cancer surgery...went for a cleanup of my hair, she cut it really short and when I got home and washed it, it was loaded with steps...told her not to touch the beard but she wanted to just trim the bottom, she took too much off and it looks terrible...have to wait months for it to grow back, the beard was covering a large mass on my neck left over from cancer operation...will probably never return there again...Ron T read more

Have you ever left hair salon with static hair? No? Well this one was first for me. Hairwash and haircut experience wasn't the worst but definitely not the best - Deb was harsh, pulled my hair, combed it very roughly, no apologies what's so ever. Alright, I can let that slip through but then she proceeded to dry my hair - there are shelves and shelves of best hair products in salon - however she uses NOTHING. No heat protection, not even on the ends - blasts my hair with hottest setting on hairdryer, then begins to curl (??) my naturally straight hair without asking, again no heat protection. That is a big no no, damaging hair like that and letting your customer go outside without any finishing product, especially in winter time, doesnt look like a quality work for me. Hair becomes static while sitting in her chair, I think, ok I will give her a chance to fix it and also ask if she could thin my hair ends too - without thinning my hair tangles very easy and just don't look good. Did not get what I asked. Honestly, I had to repeat myself five times every time I spoke. She also wasn't a big chatter which is fine, but there could be at least minimal communication on what she is doing to the hair at the moment, or if I'm happy midway of service.. (ok, now I think maybe she has hearing dissability, but warn me at least) Also worth mentioning that Deb kept my chair turned away from the mirror right from the beginning, so I wasn't able see what she was doing. I might sound spoiled with review like that, but being stay at home mom, who rarely gets a day off from her kids, I was hoping for better experience. I just wanted to pamper myself a little. Giving extra star because I was accomodated on a day I requested not too much in advance, owner was on vacation but went out of her way to make sure I was seen by somebody. read more

I got a manicure and a pedicure with Ashley here yesterday. She did a wonderful job and went the extra mile by helping me with my constant indecision about color choice! It was a clean and enjoyable experience. The owner was also very sweet and friendly. I never think to carry cash on me, so I was obviously really embarrassed when I couldn't tip right away. Had my hair, washed, cut & blown dry by Dorian for the first at Hairworxs, & I'm absolutely thrilled & delighted from my visit, yesterday. Dorian was professional, but she also was personal. Asked me several times during my hair cut my opinion of length & angle. She did an incredible scalp massage during the shampoo, & conditioning phase. No water splashed all over me from sink. Was attentive in making sure I was comfortable in sink chair & styling chair. She treated me like I was the most important client in the room, I also noticed other stylist treating their clients the same way. Dorian did a wonderful job on my hair all around. The salon itself is lovely & comfortable. Sarah greeted me warmly when I arrived at the door & set up my next following appointment. She was gracious & courteous to me during the transaction. Let me just start off with, this place is an absolute rip off. Michelle was seemingly nice up until I had my hair breaking off from it being over processed. I went in for a full foil, cut, and blow dry. I was expecting to pay $180 for the foils and maybe an extra $50 for the trim and blow dry. I WAS CHARGED $328 DOLLARS. Everything she possibly could have charged me for, she did. I'm surprised she didn't charge me for the two little chocolates she gave me when I first sat in her chair. I was left to process as Michelle did a men's hair cut and sat in the corner, with wet hair as she did a woman's roots. I was astonished at the lack of professionalism. At first, I really liked my hair. That was until it continually broke off and I had more and more flyaways. For reference, I have gotten highlights from so many other places and never once had breakage. She layered blonde over blonde, and before I knew it my hair looked like it went through a paper shredder. I would never ever return here, and I wouldn't recommend her to anyone I know. I'm hoping leaving this honest review will prevent anyone else from having their hair damaged beyond belief and paying an obscene amount for it. read more

Mother went in twice and gave up getting cuts at this salon. First time stylist said 'you're getting a Newberry Street cut for less'. Mom didn't like cut. The prices are insane. $180 for cut and color. My mother is elderly and has what can be described as not much more than an inch of fuzz. read more
